#angle under the cut where you can see their eyes because it is NOT very flattering from the front#sharpedo#this is the fucker that zooms after you like a missile in the swsh DLC‚ right? i think it also does that in sv. it's scary honestly#it's so fast. and it makes that big ol' zoomin' effect like the third nozzle in super mario sunshine. i don't remember what it's called but#it's the gray one. super mario sunshine is my favorite mario game which i feel like is not a very popular opinion#but it tracks because i had a gamecube as a kid. so games on that tend to be some of my favorites because nostalgia i guess#luigi's mansion‚ super mario sunshine‚ pokémon colosseum…#i could go on and on about these games.  honestly. luigi's mansion is one of my favorites of all time. i still think it's great even as an#adult. it's much better than the other luigi's mansions in my opinion‚ though i guess my opinion Might be clouded by nostalgia#although i would like to think i can look back on it with a critical eye. i still replay it basically once a year cuz it's super short#i think it's super atmospheric and the later two luigi's mansion games don't really capture that same aesthetic#of… what basically amounts to like. a horror aesthetic. which is weird to say because it's a kids' game but#y'know i'm also not putting my whole brain into these tags right now bc i'm distracted but i hope i am making sense#fellow luigi's mansion fans know what i'm talking about. this is not about sharpedo so here is sharpedo#i believe this'll be posting on the last day of my outing when i'll be flying back home. so. finger's crossed#nope i just queued it and it's the day before i'm flying home. either way‚ good luck‚ future me

I love(d) the GameCube.
I still have
Super Mario Sunshine
Luigi's Mansion
Evolution Worlds / first game in English
Pokémon Channel
Pokémon Colosseum
Pokémon XD
What does powerbred mean? 😅
I still have to shiny breed, as soon as Home works for Scarlet and Violet.
I miss my Ditto "Doppelgänger" and my Masuda&IV-Ditto 🥲
Yeah, you need your switch back °^°
- Anon Germany
Powerbred= Full IV spread and suitable nature.
i actually never played any pokemon games on GameCube.
Evolution worlds looks fun, I hate I missed that one in my GameCube days.
I've played the other games. I was meaning to go through Mario sunshine again on the switch.
I also wanted the newest Luigi's mansion since the first one was so good.
I want Billy Hatcher to be released or something. I have fond memories of that game.
I stand by the opinion that the GameCube/playstation2 era was the best era of gaming.

The Gamecube review
So, it has been 18 years since the Gamecube was released and now, with my newfound free time, I can finally review what I’ve experienced from its gaming library. First, I’d like to say that this review is only my opinion, although it might be a bit controversial since I have my own issues with it. Second, I’ll divide the games in some categories for this review.
Tumblr media
Platformers
Gamecube had an abundance of platformers, with most of them being in 3D. It’s a bit like the N64 era, but with even less 2.5 D platformers (aside from Megaman, Viewtiful Joe, or Alien Hominid). I ended up liking most 2.5 D platformers on the console and Donkey Kong:Jungle Beat remains an amazing game, despite being very easy. Due to this oversaturation, most of them tried very hard to stand out by mixing up gameplay mechanics with something “cool” (guns, cars, etc.) to appeal to kids and I ended up not liking those too much, such as Ty, Shadow The Hedgehog, Vexx, etc. Meanwhile, the other games that stayed true to themselves became classics always considered by fans, such as Billy Hatcher & The Giant Egg, Pac-Man World 2, Super Mario Sunshine even though I don’t like that game at all, etc. While I wasn’t really a fan of the direction platformers were taking during that era, which heavily affected their quality, there are still a few diamonds in the rough.
Tumblr media
Adventure/Role-Playing Games
The Gamecube had plenty of adventure games and, despite open-world games becoming more and more of a thing, the Gamecube had very few open-world games. Only The Incredible Hulk:Total Destruction, True Crime, or even GUN were open-world on the consoles. So, more traditional adventure games were put on the console. I really loved The Legend Of Zelda: The Wind Waker for what it was, despite a few problems it had. Starfox Adventures was also decent, but far from great. The Legend Of Zelda:Twilight Princess tried too hard to please its “hardcore gamerz” fanbase and to look cool, so I still found the experience slightly dissapointing. At least some gameplay mechanics. The Resident Evil games were also the only source of adventure-horror games on the console aside from Eternal Darkness, which I think is a really great horror game with lots of interesting ideas. Role-Playing games on the console were also fairly scarce, especially compared to the Playstation 2. They were fine, though. Paper Mario:The Thousand-Year Door was pretty good, although a bit overrated due to some characters’ halted development and some gameplay mechanics I am not a fan of. The Baten Kaitos games look like they could have been on PS2 in terms of quality, and are really good games. I thought the Pokémon games on the Gamecube (XD, Colosseum) were really nothing special both in terms of story and gameplay compared to other RPGs despite trying to appeal to an older audience. Tales Of Symphonia was great and could compete with PS2 RPGs. So yeah, I liked the Aventure games/RPGs of the Gamecube, but most weren’t that extraordinary.
Tumblr media
Shooters
As far as shooters go, there is a big variety of them. Even including a few 2D shoot-em-ups, although only Ikaruga is really fondly remembered. The vast amount of First-Person Shooters on the console wasn’t really that surprising and rarely did any of them try to stand out. Two titles that stood out to me were Metroid Prime 1 and 2. Rather than just focusing on killing the bad guys, there was a vast amount of effort put into exploration and, while the sight of a 3D Metroid game doesn’t instantly make me happy, that’s something I can honestly get behind. I’m glad Retro Studios took their time to create a deeper universe for Metroid. They were a few other shooters, such as Metal Arms:Glitch in the System, but I don’t think that many of them stood out on the Gamecube aside from Killer 7 and P.N. 03, but that game isn’t the best due to its unusual controls. Star Fox: Assault might not have been the best game in the series, but it was still somewhat alright to play and kept the arcade-like spirit of the franchise. Oh, and there’s also Geist, a Nintendo-made First-Person Shooter. Too bad it had a great idea that was better executed elsewhere.
Tumblr media
Fighting games
Unlike the N64, the Gamecube got quite a few good fighting games. Sure, most of them are licensed games, but most of them were really fun. Even better is that Mortal Kombat appeared on the console in 2004. Super Smash Bros. Melee might be rushed, but it still works really well. Custom Robo can also be considered a fighting game, but it has an interesting story mode that’s somewhat darker compared to the happy-go-lucky Nintendo 64 games and can feel like an RPG due to its structure. The 90’s atmosphere is what sold me to this game. As for the licensed titles, anime games based on Naruto or Zatch Bell were fine, but they also weren’t the best fighting games in existence due to a copious amount of problems. This era saw the birth of a bunch of Power Stone clones for some reason (One Piece:Grand Battle, The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy, etc.), which was a good thing, in my opinion. The only bad thing about it is that Capcom still won’t make Power Stone 3 despite their formula being so successful other companies ripped them off.
Tumblr media
Other
Despite the Gamecube not having a realistic car simulator, it had a good amount of realistic-looking racing games. Too bad I honestly do not care about any of them. F-Zero GX is a fun but somewhat frustrating futuristic racing game. Just be prepared for the mind-crushing difficulty and you’ll have a good time. Mario Kart:Double Dash!! Has some great ideas that kept me hooked for a while, but I’d rather play Mario Kart 8. Kirby Air Ride is probably my favorite racing game on the system: it uses a single button and the joystick to deliver a rather unique experience. I would definitely recommend it. Animal Crossing, on the other hand, is either something you love or just don’t care. I personally think the Animal Crossing novelty wears off after a few weeks, but I still somewhat “like” it. My favorite game on the console has to be Chibi-Robo: a cleaning/simulation/platforming game where you control a small robot that has to clean the Sanderson’s house. It’s weird, charming, and has a unique story that surprisingly ends up being very dark. Luigi’s Mansion was also somewhat dark, yet ended up really being charming and interesting thanks to its nice atmosphere and neat gameplay. As for rhythm games, we only got a few of them, including Dance Dance Revolution:Mario Mix, which only has some neat remixes. Nothing else about it is really worth the price. Speaking of Mario spin-offs, I really didn’t like some of the ones on the Gamecube. Super Mario Strikers has a single unlockable team, Mario Superstar baseball’s mechanics rarely work and the AI might take advantage of that during the single-player mode, Mario Power Tennis’s gimmicks didn’t entertain me enough to prefer the game over the N64 one, Mario Party 4’s mushroom mechanics were somewhat predictable, and Mario Party 7’s mic-enhanced minigames and overall board designs just bored me. That was the time when I stopped caring about Mario spin-offs.
Tumblr media
Overall, I liked the Gamecube’s gaming library, although I didn’t like many aspects of it and had a much better time with the PS2 or even the Dreamcast. I think the Gamecube MIGHT be a bit overrated due to a good amount mainstream gamers growing up with it using their pink nostalgia glasses in order to complain that THEIR era was better than the current era, just like a good amount of previous Nintendo fans complaining on forums about how THEIR era was better back in 2001-2006. It’s an eternal cycle.

In between the outstanding Nintendo 64 and Nintendo Wii consoles, there is the wonderful Nintendo GameCube. It is hard not to love this system from an aesthetic viewpoint itself, as it is in the literal shape of a cube and comes in many eccentric colors. This raw originality is just not seen in many of today's consoles, so this warrants praise. However, looking at the games on this system, they also are aging quite well.
RELATED: 10 Classic Nintendo Games That Have Aged Remarkably Well
Perhaps nostalgia plays a role in its appeal, but even so, many GameCube games are just entertaining. Although they are behind in terms of graphics, there is no question that they still offer joy whilst playing. In fact, the success of some of these games has actually led to later installments for the consoles that followed. When people bring out their GameCubes from the basements, these are the games they likely want to play.
10 Super Mario Sunshine
Tumblr media
Really the most iconic Mario game on this system, Super Mario Sunshine will likely never grow old. This is due to the fact that it not only offers magnificent gameplay, but also a great story.
It is clear that it holds up nicely, as it even was granted a remake this past year with Super Mario 3D All-Stars. Although mastering F.L.U.D.D takes practice, it is worth it when seeing how entertaining this game is. Also, Isle Delfino is simply breathtaking in looks.
9 The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker
Tumblr media
The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker is definitely one of the most popular games from this specific console. It should not be too much of a surprise though, as games from the Zelda series always tend to be spectacular.
With this specific game, though, it offers a new cartoon-like style, which marks its own identity. However, its gameplay doesn't suffer from this stylistic choice and it's full of deep adventure, as Link's voyage takes place at sea and is full of difficult tasks.
8 Super Mario Strikers
Tumblr media
Nintendo created something immensely unique with Super Mario Strikers. For one, the game has an electric fence surrounding the pitch, which creates a lot of turmoil for the characters who are body-checked into it.
RELATED: 10 Nintendo 64 Games That Still Hold Up Today
This element alone makes this game so much fun to play. It is easy to admire the doomsday-type vibe the game has, too, and the soccer gameplay in the game is actually done quite well.
7 Luigi's Mansion
Tumblr media
Luigi's Mansion is quite an iconic game, as it is the first one that offers Luigi his very own adventure. Although he accompanies Mario in other games, this one allows him to tackle his own heroic journey.
The music in this game is quite memorable and it meshes well with Luigi having to fend off an abundance of spooky ghosts. The game also introduces the legendary side character, Professor E. Gadd. Thus, it is wonderful in so many respects and well worth a revisit.
6 Super Smash Bros. Melee
Tumblr media
The sequel to the original Super Smash Bros, Super Smash Bros. Melee, really builds off the first game well. It introduces far more characters to the series, such as Peach, Roy and Mewtwo, which definitely helps enhance its quality.
It also has a brand new Adventure Mode and many more stages to pick from. Its significance to the series is therefore massive, as it introduces elements and characters that gamers in its most modern installment, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, are still enjoying today.
5 Mario Kart: Double Dash
Tumblr media
Mario Kart: Double Dash is one of the coolest installments in the series, as it allows the player to control two different characters. This also gave Nintendo the opportunity to introduce new characters to the game, such as Baby Mario and Petey Piranha, to name a few.
RELATED: Waluigi & 9 Other Nintendo Characters Who Need To Be In More Games
This game definitely takes a step forward from the 64 edition of Mario Kart because of this. It is always enjoyable to play any Mario racing game in general, as they possess very entertaining power-ups.
4 Super Monkey Ball
Tumblr media
Nearing its 20-year anniversary, Super Monkey Ball is a fun game that offers cute characters, yet challenging levels. The beginning of the game may seem like a piece of cake, but that changes rather quickly.
The art style of this game is beautiful with its bright colors and focus on nature, and it offers just an entirely different objective of gameplay in the process.
3 Mario Superstar Baseball
Tumblr media
Mario Superstar Baseball is a great example of why there needs to be a new Mario baseball game. It kind of came out of left field, but it is still a fantastic game. It offers a very compelling story mode, while also having so many characters to choose from.
Although it is not necessarily as complete as its sequel, Mario Super Sluggers, it is still a fun game to play from time to time. Whether the player elects to embark on a journey with Mario and company, or simply just play an exhibition, it is surely worthwhile.
2 F-Zero GX
Tumblr media
Although fans of the GameCube tend to see Mario Kart: Double Dash as the best racing game on the console, overlooking F-Zero GX is a sin. This game is stupendous and allows the player to take control over the iconic Captain Falcon.
It certainly provides a much higher intensity than most racing games, which is appealing. It also is one of the last installments from this series in general, so it is absolutely worth giving it a try.
1 Pokémon Colosseum
Tumblr media
Pokémon Colosseum is a huge achievement from the series, as it is its first-ever 3D RPG game. This alone is important to note, but the gameplay is also quite splendid, as it allows the player to search for Generation III Pokémon.
What allows this game to stand out more than others is the fact that it also has a very deep storyline. It is far more than just a game where the player catches Pokémon, which warrants praise.
