I have to be honest.

I be side eyeing people who ship Luke x Alex HARD, cause like I dont understand why you would ship them when Willex and Juke is RIGHT THERE, like ???? 

And like i just find it really suspicious because I notice alot of people (specifcally white people) do this type of thing where they ditch a love interests such as Julie and Willie in favor of a white love interest, and like idk when I see this ship I like can’t help but be cautious of its shippers because its origin usually due to racism and it’s just nasty.

This doesnt mean there is anything wrong with past Luke x Alex aka Luke and Alex being exes but there are definitely people who ship as a current romance which doesnt sit right with me. (also there are people who demonize Willie as well....) 

remember racism isn’t always a conscious decision, and you don’t have to be actively throwing slurs to be racist, and some of these works and takes that I see surrounding ships like Luke x Alex is an example of this.

I think I love past LukeAlex so much because of just how pure and right it was for them at that time. Like, they were teens in the 90s, a time where being gay--especially openly--was so much less socially acceptable. Alex probably grew up thinking that he’d never get to have a love life like the rest of his peers around him because he couldn’t openly like guys and didn’t even know how he could find another gay guy at school. And maybe he even worried that his friends wouldn’t accept him at all and he’d end up alone

But it ended up being the exact opposite... 

His friends loved him unconditionally and accepted him. And then somehow, Alex is even more surprised that he isn’t alone in his feelings because Luke admits he likes guys too--or at least he likes Alex, even if he doesn’t know how to label his sexuality. In a time where Alex probably felt so lost and feared rejection, he had his best friend beside him and got to have that teenage romance he never expected to have. He didn’t have to go through this alone. 

Sure, they realize they were better of as friends and maybe they were both heartbroken at some point, but they will always value that time together because they were able to learn about themselves and be vulnerable for the first time with the person they felt most comfortable with and I think that was just what they needed

I have many thoughts about Alex and Carrie so here are all my headcanons about them given that the boys can be seen by all

Carrie is a lesbian and her and Alex have wlw and mlm solidarity vibes

Carrie introduces Alex to rupauls drag race and they do face masks while watching it together

They make choreography to dances all the time and together they own tiktok just doing their dances

They probably also do a skit where they’re both in baby pink robes with their initials in gold thread drinking “mimosas” (orange juice in fancy glasses) and roasting the other hand members, all in good fun ofc

Carrie practices makeup looks on Alex and teaches Alex how to do makeup

They often paint each other’s nails instead of focusing at band rehearsals

Carrie came out to Alex before anyone else

Snarky and sassy comments on the daily from both of them

I’m not sure how this one would work being that their ghosts and Idek how their clothe situation works, but she would get him really cool outfits

She would also feature him in Dirty Candy, letting him sing and dance with her. He’s like an honary member

She catches Alex up on all the modern slang and mannerisms (his favorite phrases are ‘simp’ and obviously ‘woke’ but he LOVES all the gestures, especially 💁🏼‍♂️ and the Debby Ryan look)

Bonus for Lulex/Jarrie shippers:

They bond over their feelings for their best friends (Luke and Julie) and help each other get (or get back) with them

Carries knows ALL about Alex and Luke’s past and Alex is the first person Carrie confesses her feelings for Julie to

Ok, I’ve watched the video where they talk about the scene where Luke and Alex hold hands in episode 9 as they bow after the performance... And Owen said they did that because he thought he heard Kenny telling everyone to hold hands as they bow after the performance(which groups usually do when doing that) but then only he and Charlie did it(?), and then when he realized he asked Kenny why he let that in and he said it was “cause he thought it was cute”. I saw people saying “omg Kenny Lukealex rights” and, well, I guess so in the sense that y’all are not thinking about this seriously like I am, but: Either Kenny told EVERYONE to hold hands and they just didn’t heard it or (most likely) Owen imagined that and “improvised it” thinking they were all supposed to be doing it. So we know for a fact that it was not some intentional way of showcasing a possible history between Luke and Alex. Not by Kenny or the writers or even Owen and Charlie themselves. There’s also the fact that after questioned about it, Kenny said it was just “because it was cute” rather than any actual story reason, and that if you think about it, they were the only ones who would be able to hold hands considering their positions, as Julie can’t touch them and hold hands with Reggie and Luke who were on her side(which probably shows how they were never supposed to hold hands, and is likely the actual main reason they were fine with letting that in with Luke and Alex).

what if alex gave luke his lyric notebook and luke gave alex his pride bracelet as anniversary gifts when they were together, and at some point julie finds either a love song or a breakup song in the lyric book and alex and luke have to explain it

Idea: she goes through the book finds a definite love song but she doesn’t know who it’s about and maybe some of the handwriting is confusing to her because she doesnt recognize it as luke’s because alex and him wrote it /together/ and they’re kind of awkward as she reads it—but they don’t really mind that she does because what they had is in the past, but she’s not exactly sure who about, so maybe alex starts lightly drumming to the song and a flashback scene happens and it’s some moments of him that have to do with his coming out and crush, and then soon in luke starts playing his guitar so the flashback then includes him in the memories and shows the two of their past relationship in glimpses, and then at the end julie understands and they’re like “yeah, I mean it is what it is. or was, I guess. it happened, but we’re better off as friends :)” and then sometime later on there’s another scene where luke can’t find his lyric book and forgets he can poof it to him (like he can with his guitar) and he starts panicking and is almost in tears and julie is like “we’ll find it it’ll be okay, and we can always make more music” and luke is like “no no i need it! it’s from, it’s from alex and-and-and i need-“ and just breaks down right about because it’s such an important reminder to him of how much they went through with their families and how much they went through /together/ together and julie then tells him to poof it to himself and when he does he just holds it tight as he calms down sitting on the couch and julie hugs him explaining that she understands and they just sit their with his head on her shoulder and later the two boys ghost in and ask what happened and why luke looks upset and alex notice’s luke’s tight grip on the book and gets worried that something happened but when luke notices the frown lines in alex’ forehead he just gives him a reassuring smile and everything is okay again
