"Astronaut John W. Young, commander of the Apollo 16 lunar landing mission, works at the Lunar Roving Vehicle (LRV) just prior to deployment of the Apollo Lunar Surface Experiments Package (ALSEP) during the first extravehicular activity (EVA) on April 21, 1972. Note the Ultraviolet (UV) Camera/Spectrometer to the right of the Lunar Module ladder. Also, note the pile of protective/thermal foil under the U.S. flag on the LM which the astronauts pulled away to get to the Modular Equipment Storage Assembly (MESA) bay. While astronauts Young and Charles M. Duke Jr., lunar module pilot; descended in the Apollo 16 (LM-11) 'Orion' to explore the Descartes highlands landing site on the moon, astronaut Thomas K. Mattingly II, command module pilot, remained with the Command and Service Modules (CSM-113) 'Casper' in lunar orbit."

Parked by the front door. The Lunar Rover sits by Orion, the Lunar Module during Apollo 16, Apr 1972. The crew of John Young, Charlie Duke & Ken Mattingly experienced many glitches on the way to the moon culminating in concerns in the main engine. Mission Control had considered aborted the entire landing until it was decided the issues could be overcome. Still, as a result of these concerns, the mission ended 1 day earlier than planned.

Pragyan rover (2023) by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). Chandrayaan-3 is India’s third lunar mission, and the first space mission to land near the south pole of the Moon. The Vikram lander touched down on the lunar surface on 23rd August 2023. Inside the lander is the six-wheeled Pragyan rover, which is planned roam the lunar surface, exploring permanently shadowed craters that may hold frozen water. Pragyan, meaning 'wisdom' in Sanskrit, is painted in the colours of the Tiranga, the national flag of India. It drives at a speed of one centimetre per second, and is planned to cover a total distance of half a kilometre during its 14 earth day, or 1 lunar day, mission. Instruments include a Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscope (LIBS) that fires laser pulses at various targets to analyse the resulting plasma, and an Alpha Particle Induced X-ray Spectroscope (APIXS). The photos show the Pragyan rover successfully disembarking from the Vikram lander onto the lunar surface.

Well, I guess it’s that time again, new robo
This is Houston, they’re a lunar rover, outfitted with high definition cameras, grappling hooks for grabbing things for study, and, naturally, a radio for communicating with ground stations.
They’ve been pretty lonely after the war cut off communication to earth, but thankfully he’s finally found some people to talk with, it’s just taken several years of being completely alone on the moon with no one to talk to.
