"what, you didn't think we forgot, did you?" dylan turned around the corner from inside the woman's bedroom, accosting the pair out in the living area. birthday surprises were hard enough to plan when there was only one partner involved, but having two of them keep a secret from the other? act like they had completely forgotten that it was their birthday? resist the urge to spill the beans watching the dejection, how crestfallen they were when the date approached and all they seemed to be was busy? "i thought that was something that only happened after, i dunno, a decade of being together." she placed a hand on the lower back of the woman who had colluded with her to keep things a surprise, planting an affectionate kiss on their cheek. dylan took the hand of the birthday girl, squeezing it. "i baked you a cake, it's in the fridge - okay, fine, i bought it from that bakery you really like, but ..." shooting her co-conspirator a grin, dylan lowered her voice, like someone was eavesdropping on them, "we thought we'd save it for a midnight snack? when we need a break while fucking your brains out?"

I finally watched Perfect Blue. Since I liked Paranoia Agent so much, I decided to see the author's other works about psychological thriller. I enjoyed the setting and the story so far, but I was a little disappointed in the ending's plot twist because it stole the focus of the protagonist's madness and identity confusion and shift them onto another crazy fan of hers who used to live vicariously through the protagonist. Not saying there wasn't bulid up to it, but it seems the Rumi-is-an-antagonist hidden plot was added to give Mima a direct confrontation with her alter ego. I think the obsessed stalker was enough, so to add another character fills similar role in Mima's dissociative identity was a little overboard.

Mima's shift from being an idol to an actress was a difficult life decision to make, and without anyone to seek comfort into she ends identifying so much with what the stalker's online blog says about her true feelings in her stead. While that blog might have offered a sort of an influence to enter the madness path for her, the Rumi's plot twist offered her an escape from it.

I enjoyed the bait of Mima (and the stalker) being the true culprit behind the murders because the agency it gives her rather than being a complete victim: she kills those who dared to gaze lustly after her and she allowed it -- she agreed to that job as an actress and a porn star while her pop idol self rejected that role entirely and sought out revenge on those who exploited her. And that's why I felt mad Rumi's involvement was out of place, but it's consistent to reinterpret the story that way.

he's been through this with her before. gavin had to try all year to move on from the pain that ines caused him. going for him one minute to his own brother the next. the problem with that was that he had to watch it all and still act like he was okay with it. "you came," they declared as they found themselves in the right place, finally - a bright but nervous smile splitting their sharp features. "i was worried you wouldn't. that it got los in the mail, or something." closing the door behind them, billie took a few tentative steps closer. "did you like the video i uploaded? when i saw you put up that picture in that dress i sent ... i couldn't resist."
