@machiavelique your link to this “character song” doesn’t lead anywhere? and no, Japan may have gender roles that resemble ours, but the west is the only culture that’s doing this ‘gender roles are an innate part of the soul’ trend, so ‘nonbinary’ doesn’t exist for them. 

Not conforming to gender roles is in any given culture, though, which is probably what he’s going for, but a woman not being feminine is still considered a woman in other parts of the world, it’s called androgyny.  

And Reiner is not gay, he has feelings for Historia, and must have mentioned marrying her like 5 times by now. The mistranslated panels during the Utgard chapters are what gave fans that impression.
