Have any lizards ventured into the machinzed landscape beyond the exposed part of the shell? Are there any groups living under there or is it just the original mechanical ecosystem?

It's pretty much impossible to live beyond the exposed part of the shell. No sunlight means you can't farm, but more importantly, all of the ancient machinery is ALIVE. You simply can't avoid custodians like you can in the "skylight." Try and put up a building and they'll notice and tear it down. Radiation, chemical pollution and "magical" pollution are everywhere. Short hops under the "ceiling" are doable but very dangerous... one strategy is to go quietly and on foot, another strategy is to take the fastest airship you can and get in and out as quickly as possible. Speed, and "camouflage" are crucial. The "edge" of the exposed part of the shell is ragged, and there are a few areas with a damaged ceiling, or smaller "mini-skylights" close to the main exposed part. It wouldn't be completely impossible to establish a research outpost in these areas, but it WOULD be very, very dangerous, and you'd need supplies from the main part of the shell.

First off yes there are definitely more realms in the Shadowlands than just what we see. We actually delved into the Shadowlands a surprising amount of times before this expansion and saw glimpses of realms that aren't part of the main realms this expansion including Helheim and the Shadowlands Ner'zhul takes us to in WoD. There is also the part of the Shadowlands that overlaps with the living plane that we see every time we do a corpse run. Not to mention there are the Halls of Valor that might also overlap with the Shadowlands?

Secondly I had this theory since the Bastion Afterlives cinematic that perhaps, things aren't as tranquil as they appear?

I noticed how without the Arbiter's influence souls seem funneled naturally into the Maw, they don't just float about in limbo like you would think would happen when the machinary of death broke. Perhaps they are supposed to go to the Maw.

Also with the way the Shadowlands are breaking down without Anima, surely they must not be self-sufficient and were created with the First Ones influence to be a part of their grand scheme.

Finally there is Obleron a name that has popped up in the Maw several times including on relics.

Perhaps there was a realm called Obleron a long time ago that was the natural resting place for souls, until the First Ones interfered and made their "better" system. This destroyed Obleron and when Zovaal interfered or tried to stop it they banished him and made him the Jailer. the Jailer then formed the Maw out of what was left of Obleron making it what we know now.

Maybe the Jailer and Sylvanas are trying to restore the natural order and free us from the machinzations of the First Ones so everyone's souls can be at peace. Unfortunately they need souls and anima to do it, but it would be temporary pain for a forever peace.

Maybe Sylvanas is a bit right that its kinda fucked up you die and don’t even get a choice of what happens to your soul like you just suddenly get whisked off to bastion and they’re like “forget all your memories for your eternal reward to take up this sacred duty :)” or like “well you’re now drafted into eternal conflict have fun!”
