renée de noailles from vying from versailles is the cuntiest woman to ever exist. she removed louise de la valliere from court and became the maîtresse-en-titre in her debut season at the ripe age of twenty.
then she proceeded to single handedly save the dauphin of france, frame and execute françois-athénaïs, madame de montespan and chevalier lou de rohan at the ripe age of twenty one.
now at twenty three, she's a duchess with her own retinue, with a new found relationship with hunger for power and corruption, a pro supporter of war.
truly serving cunt.

Versailles season 3 thoughts
I just finished my Versailles rewatch and I wanted to share some of my thoughts on the last season
- I HATE Madame de Maintenon so much you have no idea
- Three of her worst crimes: getting Liselotte’s baby taken away, firing Chev as master of ceremonies, and starting the whole ‘get rid of the Protestants’ thing
- It was very cathartic when her nude portraits got exposed
- We really took Madame de Montespan for granted
- You know it’s bad when you hate another mistress more than the one who participated in an attempted baby sacrifice
- I don’t like the ‘man in the iron mask’ plot line very much, I just don’t find it that interesting
- The whole thing was just Phillipe getting gaslit until the end
- RIP Maria-Theresa, you were a girlboss
- (the way she died is my WORST NIGHTMARE, I have a bug phobia, especially them crawling into my ears/nose/mouth)
- CHEVALIER’S HAIR THIS SEASON IS SO AMAZING
- They also give Liselotte way better hairstyles this season, she looks so pretty with her hair in a braid
- I don’t like the Paris people at all, sorry they are boring
- I know a lot of people like Guillaume but I don’t care about him
- I don’t like Delphine (I call her ‘that woman’) because I feel like she is taking advantage of Chev
- Like he is risking his life to help her and her friends and she is like “I wouldn’t marry you if you were the last person on earth”
- It was better towards the end I guess but I’m not a fan of their relationship
- I do love bi Chev though <3
- When they burned down Delphine’s father’s house I was like nooooo that house is so pretty
- I do respect her for keeping her faith but she needs to think about self preservation more
- If it was me I would just lie about being Catholic and continue to be Protestant in secret (I’m Lutheran irl)
- I hate the Vatican but I hate Louis even more
- I actually really like Colbert (RIP)
- The Portuguese infanta was kinda slay and Louis was super rude to her
- Louis thinking he is a god makes me so angry
- Can I just point out how during the thaumaturgy Louis didn’t even touch the people??? He just hovered his hands over them like he didn’t want to get dirty poor people germs
- Why did they have to do that to Fabien :( let him go be with Sophie or something
- This season is just Louis being stupid
- Last three episodes: screaming crying throwing up
- Love Monchelotte at the end though
- Overall: imo it is the worst season but still worth watching

Presenting Madame de Maintenon, as played by Catherine Walker in Versailles.
As always, the flowers are chosen for their traditional symbolic meanings, with passiflora standing for religious fervour & holy love, and almond blossom for the youthful indiscretions put behind her.

The Anne Boleyn, Princess Diana and maybe also the Empress Elisabeth “Sisi” markets are oversaturated. I’m suggesting new royal idols for a minimum of 2-3 years.

"I am at present in undeserved disgrace."
As the examples of, among others, Marie de Medici, the duchesse de Longueville and the Grande Mademoiselle had demonstrated, the king's relationships with his closest female relatives was potentially as troublesome as that with any prince. After 1661, Louis XIV's principal concern was to uphold his own authority and to prevent the almost inevitable household disputes from threatening the tranquillity of his court. With so many men on active military service, Versailles during the later years of the reign was very much a feminine sphere, and disgrace was a no less constant preoccupation for aristocratic women who were determined to preserve their own personal and dynastic interests. Madame, duchesse d'Orléans, frequently returned to the theme. As a woman of trenchant and forthright views, she had struggled to remain in the king's good graces. In January 1691, she noted with pleasure that the king had paid some of her gambling debts, which she interpreted as a sign "that I am not so deeply in disgrace this year at last." Her good fortune proved short-lived, and many of her problems stemmed from her unguarded correspondence and her almost legendary hostility to the marquise de Maintenon. By September 1696, she could write venomously that:
"I am at present in undeserved disgrace. Whenever I come in the king's apartment the dirty old slut [Maintenon] withdraws and when I beg her to remain, she makes no reply but goes out with a sneer on her face. I am being treated in a very rude fashion. Every day I am forced to wait half-an-hour at the king's door before I am allowed to enter, and sometimes I am even sent away, although at the same time all the king's bastards and even Monsieur himself are in the room."
Some of her discomfiture on this and other occasions may have arisen from impatience with the dictates of protocol, but even if that was the case her sensitivity to every personal or ceremonial slight was typical of court society as a whole.

Note
If a king married for the second time in a morganatic marriage, would their spouse be considered a queen consort and would they have the same responsibilities as one?
No, they would not be Queen nor would they take on any ceremonial duties (but could take on smaller tasks such as the maintaining of court, hosting events and education of the children). However, sometimes a morganatic marriage allows the spouse to carry the title Queen and the duties that goes along with it. This is usually up the royal family and/or government. Look up Madame de Maintenon, Katya Dolgorukova (Princess Yurievskaya), Countess Sophie Chotek von Wognin, Elizabeth Woodville

What I would serve the characters of Versailles at an ice cream shop
I work at an ice cream shop as one of my jobs and I thought it would be fun to think of what I would serve each of the characters!
I might do this for The Great sometime.
Chevalier: brownie sundae
Not only is it really pretty, it’s the most *extra* thing on our menu (hot fudge sundae with brownie pieces, whipped cream, and a cherry). Only the best for my boy :)
Phillipe: 2 scoops of cookies & cream in a chocolate waffle cone
Idk why but I get cookies and cream vibes from Phillipe (maybe it’s the dark hair/pale skin combo?) 2 scoops in a special cone because he deserves it <3
Liselotte: raspberry lemon cheesecake in a waffle cone with sprinkles
One thing I know is that Liselotte is definitely a sprinkle girl! Idk but I think she would like the flavour.
Fabien: Cappuccino milkshake
He probably needs coffee. Also he doesn’t have time for a cone, so he gets a shake.
Louis: child size peach jalapeño
I can’t give him nothing because he is king, but peach jalapeño is our worst flavour and sometimes he has the maturity of a child, hence what I’m serving him.
Bontemps: 1 scoop of pistachio
Why does Bontemps scream pistachio to me? 1 scoop is all he deserves.
Sophie: Strawberry oat milk
I associate Sophie with pink and I think she would want something a bit more mature than bubblegum.
Madame de Montespan: child size vanilla
Nothing special, just the bare minimum. Only gets ice cream because she’s kinda gaslight gatekeep girlboss.
Madame de Maintenon: nothing
I would make her watch everyone else get their ice cream and then give nothing to her.

Françoise d'Aubigné (1635-1719), known Madame Scarron and Madame de Maintenon, was a French noblewoman, governess to the royal children, and a particularly close advisor to the Sun King. She also founded the Maison royale de Saint-Louis, a school for girls who had come from poorer noble families.

She's never called his wife but Nick says she 'plays madame de maintenon', which I guess implies SECRET wifehood, but???? couldn't nick just call her his wife???? or maybe it's just meant to imply that ella knows all of dan's dirty dirty little secrets??? the implications are so huge if you know about Françoise d'Aubigné at all
