Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law #19: “Droopy Botox” | July 18, 2004 - 11:30 PM | S02E10
Well, I didn’t hate this one. “Droopy Botox” is about Birdman grappling with the morality of his job. He represents a plastic surgeon that botched a botox procedure that ruined Droopy’s face, and life. He wins the case, is rewarded with riches, but can’t shake the awful feeling that justice had not actually been served. (Bill Mahar smug voice) But, this is America, so what else is new? (audience gives me a standing ovation)
This one is fairly focused and has some decently executed gags, but I still didn’t really connect with it. Not even a scene that inexplicably references Trading Spaces, a show I was weirdly fascinated with back in 2003-2004, really made me laugh. It’s that sped-up part where X the Exterminator or Eliminator or whatever it is (I don’t feel like looking it up) is redecorating Birdman’s office. Not exactly evergreen, but I got it, so why am I moaning?
Birdman’s being in bird-bed with continuity causes critics to cry “CAW-CAW”! Previously we saw a thread with GiGi get continued from one episode to another (remember?) but here we have the banner gag, which I know is a thing because of wikipedia or something. One scene shows a banner that’d been used multiple times with previous celebrations crossed out and a new one written below it. This one references “GOOD LUCK AVENGER”, referencing whatever episode it was where Avenger quits. There’s also a continued thread of Doggie Daddy being Sebben’s dog. What a wonderful treat, for all the fans. The Birdman fans, that is. Could it be... me???
EPHEMERA CORNER
Sealab 2021 - Season One (DVD - July 20, 2004)
In the wake of Sealab becoming one of the worst shows Adult Swim ever had, the actual good less bad episodes of Sealab 2021 became available in stores everywhere. The DVD didn't have any audio commentaries. I vaguely remember this breaking my heart, that I didn't get to hear those awful-voiced men talk about their dumb cartoon. I believe the episodes were presented in production order (”I, Robot” is #1, for example). Weirdly this set retcons “season one” as being the first 13 episodes of the show. Episodes 1-10 more clearly make up a season, and episodes 11-14 are kind of a mini-run that, as we all understood it, belonged to season two. So leaving off episode 14 seems weird too. Not sure how they came up with the first thirteen now making up season one, or why they just didn’t call it VOLUME one, but they fucking did it and it pisses me off.
There are extras on disc two. There’s the Pitch Pilot which was made in 1999 and is sort of a crude version of the episode “Ice Station Zerbra”. It’s slightly edited to remove a scene where Sparks watches pornography. There’s some Alternate Endings for I, Robot, an Uncensored Ending for Radio Free Sealab, and some deleted scenes for Little Orphan Angry. But the best thing about the DVD is the music playing over the menus. Honestly, the theme song and the original music for this show might be the best thing about it.

THAT'S GOOD NOODLE SOUP!
No you fool! Too soon!
I dont think there is anyone on this planet you would hate more than Gordon Ramsay. I just got a feeling. You ever see one of his shows?
I am not particularly a fan and I would probably not get along with the man, but I did watch one episode of HOTEL HELL featuring the historic Monticello Hotel (Longview, Washington). It is exceptionally hilarious. I watched this episode with a FILM DIRECTOR from imdb.com. OH how we LAWFED AND LAWFED

Not So Berry Challenge Candie Edition: Mint Play 7 (Part 4)
She finds Ethan on the other side of the park away from everyone else. He looks so upset. So worried. So scared. Gathering the courage, she comes right out and asks him what's going on. Why is he... glowing? He can trust her.
Ethan wrestles with himself, probably debating on whether or not that was true. Finally, he says he's not who she thinks he is. Pepper gently asks him to tell her who he is.
He takes a deep breath. He says that a long time ago, his parents and some others escaped horrific hostage conditions thanks to a few friendly people. They moved to Evergreen Harbor and tried to live a happy life away from their past, but never forgetting where they came from. They raised him there. They thought that it was safe. That things would be better. But it was only better for them because they found a way out. Everyone else is still suffering and no one is truly safe. Not even up there.
Pepper repeats his last words. Up there...He can see the truth registering on her face. He doesn't have to say it, but he does anyway. He's not from this world. He's an alien. From a planet called Sixam. He says he's sorry that he lied to her, but it was for his own safety and the safety of his people back home. If anyone discovers his identity, FutureSims Labs will find him and most likely send him back home. But if he stays in hiding he can find a way to shut down the Labs, end all of their cruel operations, and gather all of his people hiding on earth so they can return home together.
He reveals that he knew she was working with FutureSims because he could hear her thoughts in the Chalet Gardens. That's why he approached her. He thought she might lead him to getting the information he needed. Which was partially true.
Pepper laughs to herself. This whole time he was playing his own game of deception, but this time she was the one in the dark. She's just a pawn to him. A brain to pick. Ethan says that's not true. In the beginning, yes, he used her. But then the whole marriage thing happened and his feelings got confused. All of a sudden he wasn't doing it just to take down the Labs or get the money. He was doing it because he wanted to spend time with her. He's falling in love with her.
That's why he was turning red. His emotions manifest by emitting a light he can't control. He was so angry with himself for taking things this far, for running away instead of being brave enough to tell her the truth. For getting too close to her. Today's one-on-one was probably not the best idea, but he wanted their last day together to be special.
He understands if she never wants to see him again. Especially now that she knows who he is.
But Pepper says she doesn't know who he is. Because even now he's still hiding.
And right before her eyes, Ethan the human transforms into Ethan from planet Sixam. Beautiful purple skin, cute pointy ears, and magical eyes that looked like they held their own stars. He was amazing. To make him feel less uncomfortable and exposed, Pepper says that she prefers this look. Way more handsome.
Ethan laughs a little and his echoey voice catches Pepper by surprise at first. She wonders what else is different about his alien-self. His real self. So far, there really aren't that many. Not enough for her to forget who he is on the inside. Seeing him this vulnerable and honest makes him even more lovable. Instead of shrinking away, it only made her want to get closer. Let him know that he never had to hide again. At least not with her.
She tells him that, yes, it's strange seeing him in his natural form. But it doesn't change the way she feels about the man he is. Things have been confusing for her too. Yet, she's willing to give this a shot if he is. For real this time. All bets aside. Ethan asks if she's sure. He doesn't weird her out? Pepper says she's met a lot of weirdos and he doesn't even make the top five. Ethan says he'd love nothing more than to stop lying to himself and to her. To make it official.
They seal the deal with a kiss that's out of this world.
They spend the night stargazing with Ethan pointing out his home planet. He says since he was born on earth, he's never been, but dreams about it all the time. Pepper asks if it's okay for her to visit sometime. He takes her hand and tells her that his home is her home. She's always welcome. In that moment, Pepper promises to do whatever she can to help Ethan and his people get back to Sixam. Even if she has to build the rocket herself.

“Is it… a dragon-cycle?”
“Nachos is too protective, if we got a second one she wouldn’t get along with them.” Marco ran his fingers carefully through the branches of the pine tree in front of him, giving it a gentle shake. Half of the needles fell to the ground.
“True, true. OK, what about, like, a cool sword or something?”
His focus was already on to the fourth tree in the row, ruling it out just as easily as the previous three. Disappointing. Didn’t anyone know how to properly maintain a healthy and good-looking evergreen? “Star, that’s just what you got me for my birthday. I’m not going to tell you your gift early. Besides, would you even want a sword? We can look for one sometime.”
“I’m good, just wondering. Just give me ooooone more guess… your abs?” He lurched forward in surprise, his reaction to the comment earning him a faceful of foliage. Shaking the needles out of his hood and spitting a few from his lips, he finally turned his full attention to his girlfriend, studying her as she leaned against the fence on the perimeter of the farm. She’d donned one of his hoodies overtop of her blue narwhal-embroidered outfit as emergency protection on the unexpectedly chilly day, as California’s relatively warm winters had mostly carried over to their slice of Earthni. Adorable rosy hues surrounded the heart marks on her cheeks, and he wasn’t quite sure it was from the cold - he was much more certain where his own flush was coming from, at least. “What? It’s super freezing and I’m super cold and I super do not like wood. I needed a distraction and my mind wandered back to the Neverzone after I mentioned the sword.”
“Well, don’t worry, because I found the one!” He beckoned her over with a small smile tugging at the corners of his mouth and pointed to the one in front of him. Relatively tall and thick by Christmas tree standards, but it would be sure to look fantastic in the monster temple foyer for the first annual culturally blended holiday. Why it had been dubbed Christumpmasday, and why the rest of the town had gone along with it, Marco might never know, but he was still excited no matter how unwieldy its name might be. She took his hand when she got beside him, but kept moving until she crossed fully in front of him, gently tugging his arm around her. Marco smiled and took the hint, wrapping himself snugly around her and tucking his chin into the crook of her shoulder; despite growing a bit in recent months, he was still a ways off from being a full head above her. “Better?”
She briefly nuzzled her cheek into his through his hood. “Much. Sorry for being a party pooper today… I just want to have a normal holiday, and my birthday, without having to worry about appeasing a giant angry log. Is that too much to ask?” There was a fire in her sparkling sapphire eyes that Marco recognized all too well: this was really bothering her.
As best he could, he threaded their gloved fingers together and reassuringly squeezed both the hand and the hug. “Maybe the Stump isn’t even around anymore… still, better to be safe than sorry for this year at least. Look on the bright side, if it isn’t an issue anymore, then next year we can just do what we do best here on Earth: keep traditional holidays around as an excuse to eat and have fun!” Star snorted in laughter and turned to face him with a smile, hesitant but genuine all the same, and he returned a sympathetic one of his own. “If you really want a hint about my gift, it’s something we’ll get to enjoy a lot when we get to hang out after all this is over.”
“Well if it involves spending time with you, then I know I’ll love it,” she teased, and the cold bothered Marco a bit less.
The moment was interrupted when Rafael entered his peripheral vision with an unfamiliar woman behind him. “Ah, there you two are. I have been looking all over the place!”
The woman, taller than Marco’s dad and almost as brawny and sporting a stereotypical lumberjack outfit, jogged ahead of Rafael, seemingly unbothered by the cold. She patted Marco’s head as he and Star scrambled to split apart. “I’m Dee, nice to meet you.”
“Ooooooh, I thought ‘Dees Trees’ was just wordplay,” Star responded, shaking her hand after Marco, who giggled in response.
“Well aren’t you two just the most precious things? So your dad here tells me that you’re looking for a tree?”
“Yep, this one,” Marco pointed to the one in front of him and the sign marking it at $65.
“That one’s certainly a beaut. Tell ya what, it’s on the house. As thanks for this whole Cleaving thing - best thing to happen to my business since that household tree burglary spree in ‘89!” she said jovially.
Star bristled a bit inside the hoodie. “You don’t have to do that-”
“Please, I insist.”
“We’re fine, thanks.”
“It’s the least I can do.”
“I said we’ll pay.”
Marco’s eyes bounced back and forth following the two as Dee remained fairly calm while the frustration in Star’s voice visibly mounted.
The heated exchange was interrupted by a loud rev; the three turned to see Rafael already midway into cutting down the chosen tree with his chainsaw. Dee helped the man steady it as it was fully detached from the base and he let out a victory shout while turning off his chainsaw. “This is my favorite part of the holiday season,” he chuckled, patting the handle on the tool.
Star sighed heavily. “We’ll take it, then. Thank you.” Marco was still worried by her sulliness; he’d ask her about it later.
“Take care, now!” Dee said as they hauled the tree to the Diaz car. Once it was secured to the roof, Marco hopped halfway into the backseat before Star grabbed his hand, holding him still. He looked up at her from halfway inside the vehicle and saw her reading something on her phone.
“Everything OK, kids?” his dad called from the front seat.
“Eclipsa just texted me, my dad’s been swinging around the temple using the holiday lights like vines to hang them up and he hurt himself.”
“River…” Marco facepalmed. “I told him I’d help with that!”
“Hold on, she just sent a correction.” Her brow scrunched up worryingly as she read the words. The tension in her shoulders finally released after a few seconds as she rolled her eyes. “Apparently those were two separate things. Lights are all set, but he sprained his back falling off the ceiling while trying to race Meteora around the castle after, so now he can’t go get a ceremonial stump like he does every year.”
“Maybe we can just see if we can take the one from our tree?” Marco offered.
“Good idea. But we’re paying for it this time,” Star insisted, puffing up her cheeks.
She took his hand and led him back into the farm to the same spot they’d been, stopping dead in their tracks at seeing the sign which had an additional description written on in red ink. “Don’t risk angering the stump! VERY special offer, guarantees no botanical horror attacks!” A zero had been added to the price tag, and Marco resigned himself to the inevitable as he pulled out his wallet for the familiar sum. “So that’s what she meant by us helping her business.”
***
The decor in the monster temple was splendid, Moon idly mused as she strolled through the corridors. There was a certain vivacity that Earth’s traditions brought into the holiday season that hadn’t been present for Stump Day alone. While she tended to prefer a more orderly, professional aesthetic, even she had to admit that a holiday celebrating the dead bottom of a tree could get dull at times with an almost exclusively brown wooden palette. If she had been told one year ago that come next Stump Day she’d be galavanting around the infamous Monster Temple, no longer a Queen, preparing to celebrate the holidays alongside Eclipsa, she’d have sent the laughable soothsayer to a therapist posthaste. But somehow she had settled into her new life with relative ease. Of course there were still lingering vestiges; many Mewmans still sought her advice about all sorts of mundane topics, albeit in a less… needy way, and she’d provided some counsel to the governments of the new world, filling in any information about the Mewman people and tradition. But at the end of the day, she was no more or less than any other woman in their new world, and after all the hardships she saw Mewni through - some, regrettably, by her own hand - it didn’t upset her as much as she might have thought it would.
She navigated the labyrinthian hallways until she reached the set of guest bedrooms Eclipsa had set up and walked over to hers to find the door open and her husband playing cards with Globgor.
“Moonpie!”
“Hello, darling. Hello, Globgor,” she waved. She walked over to the side of the bed and pecked River on the forehead before sitting down beside him, careful not to hurt the multiple casts he had on. “How are you holding up?”
“Never been better! Just some minor scrapes, really.”
“River, you fell three stories and landed on a hard stone floor directly on your back.”
“Bah, no matter, I’ve had worse! Besides some minor agony I barely notice it at all! Globgor here is teaching me some card games that the monster army used to play hundreds of years ago, it’s roaring fun! You should join us!”
“I think I’ve heard of some of the games…” Moon trailed off suspiciously, one eyebrow raised.
Globgor rubbed the back of his neck, clearly understanding her implications. “Ahem, well, I may have made some modifications to them. Most used custom decks that had lots of very, shall we say, unkind pictures of Mewmans on them, and most of the moves had unflattering names as well. While I was in the crystal I ended up remaking most of my favorite games without that stuff and playing matches with all kinds of imaginary characters in my brain,” he chuckled. Not that she was one to judge, after all - she’d already been through that song and dance with Buff Frog what felt like ages ago.
“Yes, and he’s really good at them!” River exclaimed in frustration as he tried and failed to counter Globgor’s most recent play. “You should join us, dear, you’re remarkable at these types of games!”
She patted his hand and flashed him a contrite smile. “I’d love to, but I still need to go through all the family belongings and find some Stump Day decorations. I’m sure at least some of them were salvaged from the castle.”
River clasped Moon’s hand with both of his own animatedly. “That reminds me! You just missed Star, she stopped by not too long ago to check up on her old man. She said they were going to set up the tree.”
“Shoot, I promised I would help them with that!” Globgor conked himself on the head, accidentally throwing his cards all over the bed in the process. “We can pick this up soon, so sorry about that!” He quickly gathered the strewn cards up and shuffled around the bed, closing the door on his way out.
“Not a problem!” River shouted after him. His volume lowered substantially as he and Moon were the only two left in the room. “It really is wonderful to have family holidays like this, is it not? Good food, good company, and best of all, no in-laws,” he smirked at her.
“River!” she jokingly admonished.
“Oh honey, you know that as much as I do. I love the Johansen clan dearly, but they can be positively insufferable at times. And don’t get me started on old Aunt Etheria…”
Moon laughed into her hand. “Yes, I suppose it is nice that the festivities will be much smaller this year.” After all the chaos and the dissolution of the Butterfly kingdom, their extended family (especially her own side) had some… mixed reactions. With Moon distancing herself from the power and prestige her family had been accustomed to, things were a bit tense and as such everyone had decided to stick to themselves for the holidays, which just left the main former Butterfly lineage and the Diazes to celebrate. Moon had grown rather fond of this new mixed-dimensional extended “family” of hers, which she supposed was a good thing since she had a sneaking suspicion that they’d become official family in due time. While she wouldn’t trade the last half a year for anything, it too had its own brand of chaos which made moments for just the two of them still rarer than she’d like, and now that they had one both seemed most content not doing anything. The comfortable silence lingered on for many minutes, both of his rough hands delicately clasped around one of her own while her other idly toyed with his beard, and neither seemed . Finally, their tranquility was broken by a knock at the door, which meant it couldn’t be Star. “Come in,” Moon said, separating from River and defaulting to a more proper pose.
She was greeted by a familiar red hoodie. “Oh! Um, sorry if I, uh, interrupted anything.”
River struggled to sit up and face the door properly, beaming brightly at the young man whose company he enjoyed very much. “Not a problem, my boy! Moonpie was just checking up on me. But don’t worry lad, I’ll be back on my feet in no time!”
“Oh, I know that. Star and I were just in the kitchen and thought you’d want the leftovers from tonight for a snack.” He held up a bag filled with what had to be a few pounds of meat and some corn.
Her husband’s eyes lit up like fireworks as he beckoned Marco into the room. “I see the holidays have come early this year, hah! Thank you, you know this old man quite well.”
“Well, I’ll leave you two alone,” Moon gestured to the bag and her husband, rolled her eyes playfully as he fished his meat blanket out from his beard and began to dig in.
She and Marco both walked out of the room. “Have fun with your boxes, honey!” he mumbled out as the door was closing, nearly unintelligible through the multiple drumsticks barbarously stuffed in his mouth.
Marco stopped and turned back to face Moon. “Oh, is there still something left to do for decorations?”
“I was planning on going through some of the Butterfly family possessions to find our old Stump Day decor, that’s all.”
He hesitated only a fraction of a second before responding, “Do you want some help? We finished everything with the tree already.”
Moon warmly grinned back at the boy. She’d noted his kindness and willingness to be by Star’s side through anything years prior, but what impressed her most was how it consistently extended to everyone else around him. “That would be lovely. They’re in the storage room, I’ll be up in a moment.”
“OK, I’ll get Star and we’ll meet you there.” He hustled off back to the main area of the castle, leaving her alone in the hallway.
She made her way to the storage room, getting lost a few times along the way, still not entirely familiar with the layout of the building. Her first task was to do a quick scan of the boxes and organize them. There was a notable lack of cohesion to the contents of each container, she noted with ire, but that was likely due to the haste with which they had been packed as the castle had been attacked. Forgivable. She’d noted around fifteen that possibly would contain the decorations she was looking for and had gathered them all together when a conversation from the hallway caught her attention.
“Why noooooot?”
“Star, they’re not going to let you use one of River’s clubs. Those things are like two feet wide and have spikes!”
“Yeah, those are his miniature clubs, which is why I want to bring them to miniature golf, duh!”
“It’s indoors! There will be kids around!”
“Oh, well why didn’t you say so! Dad has some indoor clubs for kids too.”
“He showed those to me, they’re even more dangerous!”
“Marcooooooo, come oooooon.”
“Trust me, it’ll be more fun with the normal clubs.”
“Fiiiiiine.” Just as they came into view through the door, she spotted Marco give a quick peck to the side of her head as she rolled her eyes at him, their fingers intertwined. Moon raised an eyebrow with a smug grin when they entered the room. They reminded her so much of herself and River when they were younger.
“Hi Mom!” Star said, leaving Marco’s side to give Moon a quick hug. “Marco said you needed help with something here, what’s up?”
“We just need to locate some of the Stump Day decorations from our usual family gatherings, shouldn’t be too long,” she responded, indicating the various boxes and bags on the floor behind her.
Star’s cheery expression visibly sunk. “Oh. Yeah, um, sure, we can help with that.” Moon’s brow furrowed in confusion briefly; she considered speaking up, but had learned it was best not to pry too much. No matter, they could finish this up quickly enough and all have a well-rested night before all the celebrations to come in the next few days. “So what exactly are we looking for?”
Moon pried open the nearest tub and overturned the piles of now-unneeded royal attire to see what lay beneath. “We’ll probably need a lot of mugs for the big dinner that Eclipsa is hosting for the locals tomorrow evening. And the diorama for River’s annual telling of the story of Stump Day, which he’s insisted he is still going to deliver himself. Perhaps a few of the hats as well, if we’re able to locate them. After last year, I don’t think we can quite play it too safe, after all.”
The three began to dig through boxes, clearing them out at a rapid pace. She noted a newfound chilliness even in Star’s interactions with Marco, responding to his antics making goofy voices with some old puppets with only half-hearted laughter. After about thirty minutes, they’d gathered everything they needed and began packing back up the belongings.
“Why do we even still have this stuff, anyway?” Star spontaneously spoke after a rather uncharacteristic bout of silence during their labor. Moon glanced over to see her holding up one of Moon’s old crowns, her hearts wrinkling as her face contorted in displeasure.
“Sweetheart, it’s a valuable heirloom. It’s still important to the tradition of this family to keep these things around, what if you or someone else might be interested in them in the future?”
Star scoffed and carelessly dunked the crown back in the box. “We’re not royalty anymore, Mom, and we never will be again,” Star retorted, dunking it carelessly back into the box.
“I know that, dear, but-”
Star’s voice, now risen to almost a shout, cut her off, echoing throughout the spacious room. “But what? I’ve moved on, I’m through with this, and you should be too. So what’s the point of keeping this, or this, or any of this unless you’re trying to hold on to the glory?” She held up the crown again, the top to one of the royal staves, and the medallion with the royal crest to illustrate her point. Moon and Star had butted heads enough in the past that this feeling of anger bubbling up wasn’t new to her, but it had been a while since her daughter had frustrated her to the extent she was right now. “Marco, back me up here!”
The boy raised a finger and stuttered briefly before an incensed Moon cut him off. “That’s not my point, Star. Even if it’s in the past, we can’t just toss away our history! What about things you did for your kingdom or your people? Don’t you want to at least remember that much?” she held up a few of the dresses and official portraits from various diplomatic events Star had participated in when she was younger. “These were things you did, not just stuffy royal artifacts. Surely that at least means something to you?”
Moon followed Star’s bright blue eyes as they darted intensely around the items she held until they suddenly stopped, fixated on a puffy blue and pink dress. The fury evaporated instantaneously and her expression morphed into shock. “Forget it, I’m done with all of it,” she sullenly intoned, dumping what she was holding on the ground and walking away. Marco tried to wrap an arm around her shoulder but she shrugged it off brusquely and marched out the door.
Marco took a step forward to follow her and then stopped, sulking and turning back to the pile of stuff, plopping to the ground and burying his head in his hands.
“What has gotten into her?” Moon vented through gritted teeth. “She just wants to be a normal teenager again, fine, but that does not mean she has to disrespect everything this family has done!” She took a deep breath to calm herself down before turning to Marco, not wanting to take anything out on him unduly. “Has she talked to you about any of this?”
His eyes remained fixed on the ground, playing with the zipper of his hoodie. “Earlier today she said she just wanted to have a normal birthday and not have to worry about Stump Day, but this stuff, it- I don’t really know. I mean, I- I get it, kind of, what she’s trying to say.” He looked at her with his brown eyes wide, as if asking permission.
“Go on.”
“Star… she spent practically all her time on Mewni trying to fix things, and trying to do whatever she thought was best for everyone. And- and when she gets an idea in her head about how to do that, she believes in it really hard, and it’s hard to stop her.” Both unconsciously smiled at the thought, and Moon didn’t miss the glimmer in the boy’s eyes as he continued talking about his best friend and love. “She still cares a lot about making the world better for everyone, even now. And the last big thing she believed in was that magic and Mewman queens and the whole Butterfly monarchy needed to be destroyed to do that.”
“So perhaps keeping everything squirreled away made her think I plan to use it again in the future,” she finished the thought.
Marco averted his gaze and rubbed his arm for a moment, opening his mouth a few times and failing to speak before finally choosing his words. “Do you?” he asked meekly.
The question stunned her, but upon a moment of reflection she couldn’t blame him. Time and time again, Moon had taken charge when she felt the time called for it, for better or worse. “No, heavens no. It’s been difficult at times, giving it all up, I admit. Even after Eclipsa took over, I still ended up doing what I thought was best to bring order. I suppose Star must get that from me, although she’s far better at it than I ever was.”
“I- I get it, though. On Earth we had a saying that I remember learning in school: ‘Those who can’t remember the past are doomed to repeat it,’ or something like that.”
“I like that. It works. Well, I’ll… give Star some time, and think about what to do with all of this, I suppose. I can finish the cleanup myself now, run along.” Moon was about to turn around as he went to leave but decided on one more thing to say. “Oh, and Marco?” She walked over to him by the door, noting that he was almost as tall as her now, and grabbed both his shoulders before placing a tender, motherly kiss on his forehead. The brown eyes she’d caught her daughter getting lost in all too often focused intently on her own amongst the surprised expression on his visage. “You’re still both teenagers, but you’ve grown so much. She wouldn’t be the admirable young woman she is today without you, and I suspect the opposite is also true. Thank you for being everything you are to my daughter.”
His mouth was slightly agape, unable to formulate any words in response. “T-thanks, um, Mrs… thanks.”
“Just ‘Moon’ is alright, dear,” she said affectionately.
“Thanks, Moon,” he finally stammered out before stumbling towards the door and out of the room at her gentle nudging. It only took a few minutes to carefully organize the remains back into their boxes and get the Stump Day items ready to set up. Turning one last time toward the belongings that had been neatly packed away, a few ideas began running through her mind…
***
Everything was a mess. Star the Screw-up strikes again. She sulked into the battlements of her balcony, gazing into the night sky. She’d bummed Marco out, she’d gotten all tangled up in the holiday lights, she’d yelled at her mom who really didn’t deserve it, and even after they’d worked it out over some tea later she still felt hollow inside. The fact she was out in the cold in just her nightgown didn’t help, either, but she couldn’t be bothered to do anything about it. Weren’t the holidays supposed to bring ‘tidings of comfort and joy’? It didn’t feel like it. She grabbed the pillow she’d dragged out from her bedroom and screamed into it, letting her head sink further down until she was almost laying flat on the ground.
“Hey.”
Star lowered the pillow from her eyes and saw Marco in his pajamas, fiddling idly with the bottom of his shirt.
“Hi,” she mumbled into the pillow.
“Mind if I join you? I brought some hot cocoa.”
“Mmh.”
He took it as an affirmation, slumping down on the cold floor next to her, seemingly unbothered.
“Sooooo… nice night out tonight, huh?” he asked hopefully, passing her a stump mug.
“Yeah, I guess.” Her gaze went skyward as it had been for the past dozen or so minutes while she thoughtfully sipped her drink, feeling the liquid warm her instantly. “The stars are really pretty from up here.”
“Yeah,” he replied, taking her hand in his. She rolled onto her side to find him already facing her, studying her intensely with a faint smile dancing on his lips. “Did everything go alright with your mom?”
She sat in silence for a moment, drinking in the soothing love his chocolate gaze was practically projecting into hers, and feeling the soft caress of his fingers on her hand. “It was fine. She apologized too, even if I was the one who messed it up… but I get it. She’s right, you can’t throw away history just because you don’t like it. Heck, I think I was the one telling her that like a year ago!”
Marco shrugged his shoulders. “Things change, stuff happens, we all mess up sometimes. Don’t beat yourself up about it too much.”
“I know, I know, it’s just… all this holiday stuff, all this reminiscing and being thankful for what you have and all this celebrating traditions from Mewni got me thinking about a lot. Stump Day, and my birthday, and princesses…” she paused for a moment, steadying her breathing. “...and you.”
His eyes widened a fraction. “Me?”
“You.” Star untangled her hand from his and brought both to her face, grounding the bases of her palms into her shut eyes to try and plug up any waterworks that she could feel working their way up towards the surface. “Stump Day just made me think of last year, and all the fighting and drama, and that made me think of all the other stuff, and… euuurgh,” she moaned.
“Star, it’s OK-”
“No it’s not,” she whimpered, not being able to stop the tears from dripping down her face this time.
“Woah, woah, Star…” he sat up, visibly scared for her, and pulled her up with him, but her body language was unyieldingly feeble as she shied away from his touch. “Just talk to me, OK? None of that was your fault.”
“Maybe…” she folded her arms and crossed her legs, leaning back against the merlons mulling over her words. “In the barn, you told me you felt like that since the beginning. And I know you didn’t, like, mean that you were head over heels in love with me while you were showing me around school or anything, but… I get it because I was the same way.” Once the words started, the pace quickly swelled until she couldn’t help but pour her heart out. “I pushed it aside, convinced myself it wasn’t there, ignored it when it was staring me in the face, and ate up the whole Curse thing like the cheapest, crummiest street corn. But looking back on it, that whole year on Mewni… it never went away then either. I was just too blind to realize what those feelings meant until it was almost too late. That’s what- that’s what I just wanted to forget.”
An arm bumped up against hers, and in her peripheral vision she saw him standing next to her, looking off the balcony into the distance. “It always feels better when you talk about it,” he offered meekly. How many times had she been the one trying to pry the truth out of him? Now that the roles were reversed, she fully understood why it had always been so hard. “What do your guts feel like?”
“Just one giant bleeeeergh,” she garbled, sticking her tongue out for emphasis.
“Well, you did have four glasses of cornnog.”
She smiled wistfully, staring down at her feet. “Touché, Diaz.”
The cool breeze whistling through the nooks and crannies of the temple was the only sound around them for a minute until he began again. “I won’t lie to you, Star… it stunk sometimes. It wasn’t always fun, sometimes it hurt. My feelings for you felt like an obstacle for so long…” In her mind’s eye, she could picture it all too clearly: wheeling on him, grabbing his arms and apologizing with rivers running down her cheeks to show him what he meant to her. But he cut that off only a beat later. “But I don’t regret a single day, because they were still with you.”
Now she whipped around to face him, looking incredulously at his calm form hanging over the top of the stone. “Wha-”
“All that time I spent trying to shove away or ignore how I felt, it- it still meant something to me. I wouldn’t trade any moment where I loved you for anything, even when it hurt, even if you were with someone else, or, heck, even if I didn’t think it was love. Doesn’t matter.” He sniffled briefly, wiping his face with his arm, and finally turned to face her. The glossy trembling she’d expected to find wasn’t there, instead she only found a fiery resolve. “C’mon, let’s go inside.” She barely remembered to grab her pillow before his firm grip pulled her back into their bedroom. Star wasn’t sure how he could be so calm about all of this. Some nagging, self-loathing voice in the back of her mind told her this had been eating away at him too, that he was just trying to spare her feelings, that she’d been the one to screw up by taking too long to tell him she loved him, but it was dulled by her curiosity at his actions. He shuffled under the bed, rummaging around until he pulled out a long, thin box with baby blue wrapping paper and pink hearts all over it.
“Marco?”
“It’s your birthday present! I- I was going to give it to you tomorrow, but I think now is better.”
They both sat down on the edge of the bed. Star glared at him suspiciously, inelegantly removing the bow and wrapping paper to find a thick velvety fabric. She started to pull it out and it unfolded itself many times, quickly sagging to the floor as she held it up. The water built up on her eyelids once more, steadily beginning to pour out as she beheld the sight in front of her.
He scooted beside her, wrapping one arm around her midsection. “I, um, hadn’t realized all this stuff was getting you down this much or I wouldn’t have-”
She shut him up with a passionate kiss, weaving her fingers through his hair as the heat of the moment stretched on. Their foreheads stayed together when they finally separated, both panting for a moment as Star tried to recover from the tongue-tiedness. “Marco, you absolute dork,” she said breathily with her lips grinning as widely as the could. “I love it.”
Both their heads turned back towards the blanket as they each used one hand to hold it up. It was a beautiful tapestry of moments from their entire relationship, from beginning until at least one thing Star could pinpoint as only happening a few weeks ago. Her spare hand caressed the fabric, adoring each and every detail. “The day we met, that day you froze time for sixty hours, the Blood Moon Ball,” he pointed out one by one. “Our first kiss… in the booth. When I found you before you killed Toffee. Right before we went to destroy the magic. This is us, Star. I- I don’t want to pretend that this stuff didn’t happen even if it wasn’t always fun, because then it wouldn’t be what made you special to me. And also, our old Friendship-Thursday-slash-Thursdate blanket was getting nasty. It smelled like month-old nacho cheese even after Lavabo washed it,” he shuddered. “So now, every time we’re snuggled up together, we can remember everything that got us to this point, and- and I left some blank spots for more patches later, because I want to look forward to the future too.”
“This is way better than any of my dumb ideas from earlier today,” she chuckled, wiping the tears and snot from her face. “Maybe that’s what ‘Christumpmasday’ should be about. The past coming together and making something new and exciting without giving up what led to it.”
“...except for the actual evil Stump demon thing. We might still be better off without it.”
“Definitely.” Both sported a cheeky grin.
“Oh, and by the way, Star?”
“Hmm?”
His lips suddenly were on hers once more, catching her off guard for a moment before she reciprocated. He swung her around, hugging her body tightly onto his, setting her nerves ablaze and causing all the hairs on the back of her neck to tingle. She adjusted her legs and pushed him back down into the pillows, landing on top of him without breaking the kiss, both hungry for more of the other. When the moment finally ended, she propped herself up on her elbows, fingers toying with his silky hair as she gazed down at the love of her life. When his eyes left hers, she followed them to the clock on her nightstand. 12:06 AM. “Happy birthday, Star,” he grinned before pecking her on the cheek.
A warmth like no other spread from Star’s chest through the rest of her body when she curled into him, needing more than anything to hold him tight tonight. Her legs tangled themselves into his as her head found purchase on his chest. “I love you so much, Marco. I don’t think I tell you that enough.”
“Same. Love you so much too, Star.”
He tucked the blanket tighter around both of them and held her as closely as he could until sleep claimed him. Star planted one last languid smooch on his jawline, nuzzling her cheek into him hard enough that it squished against his body before she too drifted off, snug in their bed, while visions of sugar-stumps danced in her head.

His Darkness - Chapter 2
A/N: This is unedited. I’ll be going back and editing it after publishing, I’m too excited to get this out!
Suggested soundtrack: you should see me in a crown by billie eilish
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A fortnight had passed since the ball by the time you were finally leaving home. Yoongi was still highly suspicious of the whole thing, though he couldn’t deny that it would be beneficial for the country, and he was going to have to marry you off eventually, so he figured he might as well kill two birds with one stone.
Had you opposed it in any way you knew he never would have pushed the matter on you, but your willingness to go through with it was enough to make up his mind. You were very close, even as far as siblings go, so you knew you’d miss him a lot when you left, and though his royal grumpiness would never admit it he was going to miss you just as much. The two of you spent a lot of time together in the days leading up to your departure.
The day you left was as simple and efficient as possible in order to keep anyone involved from getting too emotional about the whole thing. At dawn you bid your brother goodbye with a quick hug and a promise to write, and before you knew it your carriage was off to your new home.
Though Seokjin’s kingdom wasn’t terribly far based on travel time, you knew the climate would be much colder and had prepared accordingly. Sure enough, after hours in the carriage you finally crossed into snowier, less sunny territory and slowly ascended into the mountains. As you stared out the window at the ice-covered landscape and the overcast skies, you wondered to yourself exactly what you were getting yourself into.
It was mid afternoon by the time you finally reached Seokjin’s palace, perched atop a mountain and surrounded by evergreens. The structure itself was breathtaking, made even more so by the scenery around it. After going through the palace gates and down the long drive to the building itself, the carriage finally stopped near the door.
You were helped out of the carriage by a footman and then found yourself staring up in awe at the magnificent palace in front of you. Moments later people in servant uniforms were scurrying to tend to the horses and get your luggage. As soon as you could register them moving past you your eyes landed on a finely dressed man approaching you from the front door. Like everyone surrounding you, his face lacked friendliness or warmth, erring on the cold side of neutral.
“Princess Y/N,” The man said, bowing and kissing your hand as per the custom. He straightened up again and looked you in the eye. You noticed how stiffly and formally he stood. “My name is Park Jinyoung, I’m the chief advisor to the king. I’ve been assigned to tending to you as you settle in.” He explained, and you blinked at him in slight confusion. “Oh, uh, right, well, lovely to meet you…” You said, rather surprised that the chief advisor would be the one assigned to watch over you rather than someone of lower rank.
He turned and made his way to the door, holding it open for you before closing it behind himself. The indoors was pleasantly warm compared to the frigid weather outside. The first thing you noticed was that the palace was somewhat dark and almost eerily quiet. It wasn’t empty, though. No, it was just that the servants roaming the halls moved completely silently, and, to be quite frank, looked scared to death.
You followed Jinyoung down the hallway. It seemed to go on forever with how massive the palace was. Then out of the silence you heard angry yelling coming from a room up ahead. Jinyoung looked exhausted by the occurrence but not surprised in the slightest, which confused you. What was going on? Jinyoung continued to lead you past the source of the noise, but you caught a glance into the room through the doorway as you passed.
It was the throne room, where Seokjin was berating a group of three men. Jinyoung ushered you past the room so quickly you couldn’t catch what was being said, but needless to say you found it concerning. After the long trek through the palace Jinyoung finally stopped in front of a door then turned to you.
“These will me your quarters. Servants will be available to you for whatever you need. If there is something you need that you don’t have or there is something that will make you more comfortable here, please do ask. If it’s beyond the servants’ purview you may ask me.” He said formally, and you could only nod to signal your comprehension. He opened the door and gestured for you to enter before him.
The space you walked into was beautiful, very light and bright in comparison to the rest of the dark castle. You found that quite odd. Sparkling chandeliers and gold accents adorned the few rooms of your quarters and the furniture was covered in beautiful luxurious fabrics. Your eyes traveled around, soaking in every detail as you observed the space in awe. There were beautiful fireplaces in each room and the sitting room walls were lined with bookshelves stuffed to the brim with books. You couldn’t help but smile a little, knowing that this had been done especially for you.
Jinyoung coughed slightly to regain your attention. “If there’s nothing you need at the moment, I’ll leave you to get settled in. Your luggage has been brought in already. You’ll have dinner tonight with his majesty. Dress accordingly and be ready at 7 o’clock sharp.” He instructed, to which you simply nodded again. “Thank you.” You said quietly with a small smile. Jinyoung seemed surprised by your expression, blinking a few times before bowing and exiting the room without another word. You sighed, deciding to unpack your things and take a bath before dinner.
The few hours of solitude passed quickly and before you knew it you were preparing for dinner. The gown you chose was a pale dove grey covered in delicate silver beading. You did your hair and makeup to look pretty but not overdone. You didn’t want to look like anything but yourself.
Eventually the time came and before you knew it you were being escorted to the dining room. You hadn’t feared Seokjin when you met, but you would be lying if you said the screaming you’d witnessed earlier that day hadn’t made you more nervous to see him. Then you entered the room and saw him, standing there looking as handsome (albeit cold) as ever, and your eyes met. He didn’t smile, as he wasn’t really accustomed to doing so, but somehow you felt you saw a new softness and warmth in his eyes upon seeing you. That was enough to make you smile softly at this mysterious man, filling him with unfamiliar emotion.
He bowed and kissed your hand. “Princess Y/N, it feels like I’ve waited ages to have you here, but it’s only been a couple of weeks. I’m pleased that we’ll now be able to get to know one another better.” Seokjin said, then gesturing to the table where you both took your seats. “You look beautiful, by the way…” He said quietly, almost shyly, bringing a pink tint to your cheeks.
Dinner conversation was pleasant and interesting, and although his general demeanor didn’t warm, you found yourself enjoying his company. You both sat there long after the meal was done, just continuing to converse eagerly. He was escorting you back to your quarters when suddenly what looked like two bears bounded around the corner, running up to Seokjin with excitement. Upon closer inspection it was actually a pair of enormous black Newfoundland dogs. While you were briefly startled by their abrupt arrival, after a moment you found yourself crouching down and offering your hand for them to sniff.
Sure enough, once they had inspected you the two dogs behaved like two massive sweet puppies, licking you and pressing their bodies against you in an attempt to get pets. Seokjin looked completely shocked. You frowned slightly upon seeing his expression. “What’s wrong?” you asked, confused. He shook his head slightly. “They don’t usually take to new people so quickly, and people are usually afraid of them…” He explained, clearly surprised by your reaction. You smiled widely, returning your gaze to the dogs and scratching behind their ears. “I love dogs.” You said simply, shrugging.
“What are their names?” You asked, glancing at Seokjin as you continued to pet the giant canines happily. “Bartholomew and Thaddeus, but I almost always call them Bartie and Tad instead. Less of a mouthful.” You swore you almost saw the ghost of a smile appear on Seokjin’s face. The huge dogs were wagging their tails happily as you kissed the top of each of their heads and finally stood up. Seokjin was staring at you with an expression of confusion and wonder. He appeared to come out of whatever daze he had fallen into.
A servant passed the pair of you in the hall and suddenly Seokjin looked angry. “Unless you have a message for me, GET OUT OF HERE.” He said, yelling at the poor man who scurried down the hall in what looked like pure terror. Then it appeared as if Seokjin had just remembered your presence, and his expression softened to neutral. When he spoke again his voice was softer. “You should get some rest. We’ll have plenty of time to talk more tomorrow. I’m sure you’re tired from the journey. Goodnight, Y/N.” He bowed and kissed your hand as was customary, his eyes holding a surprising warmth as he left you by the door to your quarters, leaving to return to his own rooms.
When you finally settled into your huge comfortable bed for the night, you laid awake in the dark, staring up at the ceiling as you were deep in thought. You weren’t sure why you were so enchanted by this enigmatic man you’d agreed to marry. His sudden bursts of harshness seemed to be the norm for him toward others, but with you he was different. That difference gave you hope that inside the dark king was something deeper, a real human being beneath the frightening persona. You knew that part of Seokjin existed, and you fell asleep dreaming of finally finding it.

Twelve Nights Ch. 3
Another chapter of this ridiculously fluffy modern AU up! Dorian goes on a date, doesn’t know how to behave. Up on AO3!
Dorian spent the rest of his afternoon hunkered down in the privacy of his cabin, answering emails and trying to keep his mind busy. His phone still wouldn’t catch a signal, but the resort at least had a fast internet connection, a fact that his father was putting to good use. It was all a rather ingenious bit of manipulation, actually. The whole thing was orchestrated like a reward; an all-expense-paid visit to the picturesque mountainside, holidays arranged for a small collection of favoured staff up in some snowy dreamscape, with little segments of time blocked off for ostensibly morale-boosting “relaxation”. Dorian felt about as rewarded by the whole thing as he ever did. In truth, no one would be seeing rewards — monetary rewards — unless things panned out just so.
There were meetings and conference calls scheduled all throughout the festive season, as his father tried to pull together his year-topping masterpiece of an investment. Halward himself was on a tight schedule of important dinners with visiting clients, moving between hot springs and five-star restaurants in an endless cycle of greedy negotiations.Families were invited up to join them in the last days of the retreat, and Halward Pavus fully expected to be able to give out bonuses and announce his various accomplishments at the New Year’s dinner organized for the last night of the trip. If things didn’t come through, however, that scene would become an interesting study in quietly seething rage and disappointment, which none of his fine “family” of executives wanted to see.
No distractions, getting away from it all; that was how his father had enthusiastically pitched the concept. Nothing to keep them from working themselves cheerily into oblivion, and nothing else to do, if you didn’t like snow. And Dorian doubted very much that any one of his affluent, aged, unadventurous coworkers had taken to the slopes any more than he had. If it weren’t for Taren — he paused that line of thought, furrowing his brows back down at his computer screen, typing something short and biting, and then pressing send before he could change his mind.
If it weren’t for Taren, he’d be having a really terrible time.
Once he had about had it with emails, he ate a rich dinner, making the most of his father’s expense account at one of the restaurants, but carrying away most of it in little boxes back to his cabin. Then he fiddled with his phone for a while, taking pictures, wishing he could call someone — call Taren — trying to stop thinking about talking to Taren.
The cabin was large, open and stylishly modern. On the outside it looked the picturesque, rustic scene of a woodsman’s hut, built of solid logs and set into the snow at a distance from the larger chalets and other cabins, but the clear driveway of pavement leading up to it and the space maintained for his car betrayed its belonging to the resort. Inside, there was nothing rustic about it. The floors were heated hardwood — an ingenious invention, he had to admit — and the furniture was all smoothly lacquered wood and polished leather. Tile floors lined the expansive bathroom, half of which was occupied by a wide bath offering various relaxation modes and massage jets. The bed was huge too, and set with an array of down-filled pillows and sheets with obscenely high thread counts. He’d already made good use of the minibar, filling his flask with a new variety of the little expensive bottles of stuff that showed up in it each day, never looking at the price tag. He liked to think about his father reading and grudgingly approving the bill after their stay as he emptied them into his flask, though in actual fact his father would likely never see the record of expenses he was defiantly racking up. Some measly accountant would take care of it, moving funds from one account to another without hardly batting an eye, but Dorian could still pretend.
There was a long leather couch to the side of the bed, boxing off some of the open space into a sitting area with a long coffee table and a wide, electric fireplace that was there more for show than for heat. He picked up a book from the collection of large, illustrated volumes sitting out on the table and sank into the cushions, lifting his feet leisurely to rest on the table in a gesture that delighted him a little in its informality, even if there was no one else to appreciate his bad manners. The coffee table book was filled with sharply edited and stunning photos of the surrounding land; long panoramic views of mountain lakes in the springtime, starkly contrasting photos of little red birds perched in snowclad evergreens. Nothing informative, just pictures and tiny-lettered credit to their locations. Quite a few, he noticed, had their claim in Lavellan Valley. He flipped on through the photos, wondering at how vastly different everything looked over the changing seasons; trees dipped in gold and woodland critters frolicking over leaf-strewn valleys in the fall, canoes adrift in glassy lakes under deep red sunsets in the summer. “Noble tribesmen of a Dalish clan engaged in a traditional dance,” claimed one photo; one of the only specimens in the book showing people anywhere in the gorgeous valley. They were silhouetted, hands held in a wide circle, dresses blurring in dark shapes against a setting summer sun. He looked at the photo and its description for a long while, thinking about that word, noble, and how it really meant alien, and how he couldn’t have come up with a more insultingly complimentary tagline if he tried. He wondered what Taren would think — he tried to stop thinking about Taren.
The long lonely night wore on, and an ache began to crawl its way into his legs and arms; that damned rope, that plainly devastating fall. Not that anything had really been devastated other than his pride, but he could feel its effects on his muscles now, and he stretched unhappily. He poured himself a steep glass of liquor and ran a bath, and thought about how much easier things could have been if Taren had just come up to his cabin (thinking about him was alright if he only thought about him naked, or so the voice of the drink in his glass told him). But easier wasn’t really the word. Everything about Taren was easy, from his friendly smiles to his enthusiastic conversation. He embodied some kind of emotion that Dorian had never found in anyone else he’d met; some kind of untroubled grace, utterly at home in his beautiful little world and his place in it. He sighed, choking on that twinge of aching jealousy again, and clearing his throat of it with another drink. After his bath, Dorian let the somewhat more relaxed aches in his muscles and the warmth swirling around his head from the alcohol carry him into tiredness. He settled into the vast bed early, tucking his watch and phone into a drawer of a bedside table and deciding resolutely not to look at them again until morning. There was a skylight above the bed, a bit of vaulted glass that was somehow kept free of piling snow, and as he lay back he looked up through it, staring out at a deep dark sky filled with more stars than he had ever seen with his naked eye. As he watched the sky, musing sleepily about the distant constellations and the positions of the moons, soft waves of colourful light began to dance across his view. Emerald green shadows, making shapes across the sky like clouds of breath misting out into cold air.
He closed his eyes, and thought about Taren. Read the rest on AO3!

now recording {chapter five}
When upcoming YouTuber Lucy Heartfilia finds herself collaborating with popular channel Fairy Tail, she ends up getting more than she bargained for. ( ff.net // ao3 )
( ONE TWO THREE FOUR )
The following week is full of Lucy's official admittance to the channel. It's not as insane as she thought it would be, just a contract to look over and sign, and soon she's a proper member. It's easy to slot herself into several of the channel's segments, like the DIY videos that Lisanna and Mira usually do as well as any and all talk of beauty. The skits are the best part, though, being able to act like a different character for a while. It's exciting, and everything feels so professional. Most of the time, anyway.
It's Thursday when the door open and Lucy stops mid-script-planning because she's sure that everyone she knows is already inside the building. She looks up whenever anyone walks past, and she, Mira, Kinana, Reedus, and Laxus are the only ones inside the main room as of now. The others are elsewhere, working on other things, and Natsu said earlier that Wendy and Romeo wouldn't be coming in until their exams finish tomorrow. That's why stares at the entrance when a man she recognises but has never met walks in.
"Oi, old man," Laxus greets, breaking Lucy's concentration when he gets up and strides over to his grandfather.
If Lucy is being honest, she can't see the family resemblance between Laxus and Makarov. Not only is Laxus tall and buff while Makarov is stout and thin, but their personalities (or what she's seen of them, because all she has to go off of is Makarov's behaviour in videos) are also completely different. Perhaps it's some sort of generational gap? She doubts she'll ever ask.
"Haven't I told you to respect your elders?" Makarov says, but he's smiling.
Mira rushes over. "Master! I didn't expect to see you today."
"I didn't expect to be here," Makarov says, giving Mira a brief hug. "I had time, so I'm here."
"You shouldn't just walk in as you like, you know. We could be in the middle of filming or something," Laxus says.
Mira waves off his complaints. "Don't be ridiculous, he's more than welcome, even if we're filming. The fans love him! Speaking of which, have you met Lucy?"
Lucy perks up once her name is mentioned, and she can't pretend she wasn't looking when everyone's now staring at her in return. She smiles nervously and waves as Mira leads Makarov to her. He's much shorter in real life than she anticipated.
"The newest recruit? You poor thing, I hope they haven't been treating you too badly," Makarov says, offering his hand to shake.
She shakes his hand, her free one twirling her pen. "They've been fantastic, actually. More than I could hope for."
There's a spark in Makarov's eyes as he says, "Ah, they haven't had the embarrassing induction ceremony, have they?"
Lucy could have gone her whole life without being reminded of that. Ever since Jet started the topic in the group chat a week ago, it's been in the back of her mind, and she dug deep into the channel's old videos to see what she was getting herself into. When Kinana joined, she was forced to read explicit fan fiction. The time before that when Bisca joined, she had to stand on Yajima's roof and promote the restaurant with an, as Vijeeter had put it, interpretive dance. Even Wendy and Romeo had undergone some sort of food challenge that had Wendy swearing off sour food for the rest of her life. Needless to say, Lucy isn't looking forward to whatever she has to do.
"No, they haven't," she sighs, and Mira giggles.
"We're still thinking on what we're going to have her do," Reedus says from the editor's desk.
Makarov's laugh is boisterous. "You'll find something appropriate, I'm sure. But for now, could I ask you to gather the others? I have an announcement to make."
They all head off to collect the others, people entering the main room one by one. They hit a snag when the gamers refuse to come out of their gaming office for fifteen more minutes because they have a video to wrap up, but they soon wander out and join everyone else. Erza practically forces them to.
Everyone is talking at once, and it takes Erza kicking desk chairs into the crowd to make them stop. Once she's satisfied, she turns to Makarov and says, "Please continue."
Makarov nods at her and climbs onto one of the unused desks near the front of the room. "Alright, listen up, you brats! When I was at work, we were talking about having a film festival for amateur creators, and all the others were talking about how they'd gotten their favourite up and coming film makers to sign up, saying how they'd beat everyone else, but I saw their stuff and thought, 'My brats can do better than that!'"
Lucy vaguely remembers Makarov (and several of the other members) mentioning that he works as a film critic, and things suddenly make more sense. Then his words sink in and she blinks. Is this going where she thinks it's going?
"So, I decided to sign you all up," Makarov continues, pulling a flyer out of his pocket. It's a little crumpled and there's a rip at the top, but Lucy can see the words 'Crocus Film Festival 2017' in big bold letters. "I know you'll be able to do it."
Laxus snatches the flyer from Makarov's hands, and his movements are so harsh that Lucy winces. "The fuck, old man? You can't just do that shit without our permission! We're pulling out, fuck it."
"Hold on."
Everyone turns to Freed, who has his thinking face on. It's rare for him to ever disagree with Laxus, but from what Lucy has seen during the past few weeks, he is also the person who keeps Laxus from exploding. This is probably another one of those times. She just didn't expect it to be now.
"You were telling me about how you wanted to make a short film, right?" Freed says, looking at Laxus. "Why not take this opportunity and run with it? The deadline is a few months from now, and we've had tighter deadlines before, so I'm sure we could pull it off."
Laxus' expression is a combination of stubbornness and sulking. Lucy would laugh if she wasn't waiting for his response with baited breath, because honestly? The idea of making a short film is exciting, and a quick scan of the room tells her that the others think so, too. Everyone is anticipating Laxus' response, because if anyone can get him to agree, it's Freed.
Then among the silence, Natsu says, "What, too scared to take up the challenge?"
Laxus narrows his eyes at Natsu, because it's clear what the younger man is doing, but if Lucy didn't know any better, she would say that it's working. She's sure that half of the stuff Laxus does on camera is because someone challenged him to. With this group, it's a very real possibility. Her eyes dart between Natsu and Laxus as she watches Natsu's shit-eating grin and Laxus' calculating expression.
"Alright, fine," Laxus finally says, and he puts his hand up to stop any premature celebration. "But if we're gonna do this, we're gonna go all in. This isn't just some fuckin' side-project, this is some real deal shit, I don't care how much work we have to put into it, we're winning this thing."
"Well, obviously," Gray says, smirking. "Fairy Tail comes to win, not to get a pat on the back for participating."
Cana takes a swig from her flask. "Gray, your clothes."
"Fuck."
Roles are quickly designated. Laxus is the obvious choice for director, and it will be the usual team when it comes to editing and sound. Lucy, Levy, and Freed are in charge of writing the script based on the different ideas the group bounce off of each other during brainstorming. Lucy is impressed with how quickly the main concept is pieced together. Everyone appears to be on the same page, and any minor disagreements are usually resolved with an even better idea. Lucy takes notes at an alarming rate, different scenes running through her head, and soon she has several handwritten pages covered top to bottom.
"You're really into this, aren't you?" Natsu says as he slides his chair beside hers.
"Of course I am," she says, adding to the growing list of characters. "Writing stories is what I live for."
Natsu's low laughter is drowned out by Evergreen's, "Who's going to play who, though?"
"Ooh, ooh!" Natsu shoots up like a rocket. "Can I play the dragon king guy? He sounds like a badass. He can control fire, for fuck's sake!"
"He's one of the two main characters, Dragneel, think you can handle that?" Gray taunts.
Natsu slams his fist down on the desk so hard that Lucy almost drags her pen over her entire paper. She sends him a look that he ignores. "Of course I can! It's like this part was made for me. What are you gonna do, play Tree Number Three?"
"Fuck off," Gray grumbles. "I'll play one of the nature spirits or something. The one that fights the dragon king is preferred, though. The ice one, right?"
"I'll be the fortune teller," Cana says, lifting a hand. "She gets to be all mysterious and creepy, so basically the complete opposite of me."
Lucy scribbles down who is playing who as the discussion continues, giggling to herself as certain roles are cast (Elfman and Evergreen as the bickering married couple who live in the woods? Yes, please). Within the next half hour, most of the roles are filled, but there are still some gaps. The biggest one is at the very top of the list.
"So, who's going to play the celestial princess?" Mira asks.
Lucy would be lying if she said she didn't want the role. The character of the celestial princess sounds so wonderful, and she's always loved stars, always thought about whether the stars are a world of their own with their own inhabitants and royalty. She knows that it's just her writer's mind running away with her, but it's a concept she's loved since she was a young child. She has her mother to thank for that.
Yet she doesn't put her hand up. She's nervous, and while she believes in herself enough to play the role decently, she doesn't want to take the opportunity away from anyone else. But no one else has raised their hand yet either, most likely because the majority of people in the room already have their names attached to other characters. She should just take the chance.
She puts her hand up. Everyone turns to her. "I'll do it." Realising she sounds too eager, she coughs and tries to keep herself calm. "I mean, if no one else wants to, of course."
Is it just her imagination, or does Mira look a little too happy about her volunteering? "Fantastic! That's all the main roles filled, we'll still need a couple of people to say a line or two, but other than that, we're all set!"
"Alright, everyone!" Lisanna calls out, waving her tape measure to get everyone's attention. "I'll need to measure you all to make your costumes!"
As people start heading to Lisanna's side, Levy sits on Lucy's desk. Lucy doesn't think she likes the smug look on her face. "So, the celestial princess, huh?"
Lucy blinks. "Well, yeah? I really love her character, the whole stars thing."
"And she and the dragon king fall head over heels in love with each other, forbidden love from two realms." Levy places her hands on her chest, like she's in the middle of some Shakespeare play.
Oh, right. Lucy forgot about that.
"Be professional, Levy," Lucy chides, lightly tapping her pen against Levy's leg. "You were the one who told me to take the shipping comments with a grain of salt, remember?"
"And I still stand by that," Levy says. "But don't think I haven't seen all the late night text convos on your phone." She picks Lucy's phone up from the desk and unlocks it (Lucy told her that passcode for emergencies, thank you very much), and Lucy remembers just whose message log she'd been on when she locked it earlier.
She makes a dive for the phone. "Gimme that!"
Levy dodges easily. "C'mon, this is cute!"
"We're just friends," Lucy says, and when Levy gives her a sceptical look, she says, "Very good friends."
Levy still doesn't look convinced, but when it's clear that Lucy isn't going to fold, she just sighs and returns the phone to its original spot. "Whatever you say."
"Wait, what?!"
Both Lucy and Levy look towards the entrance where Erza is standing and, to Lucy's surprise, she's beet red. Kinana raises her hands and steps back, and Mira, who is standing beside the entire exchange, is finding the situation incredibly amusing. Laxus just looks annoyed. Eager to gossip at someone else's expense rather than her own, Lucy heads over with Levy at her heels.
"What's wrong?" she asks, standing opposite Mira and Laxus so she's creating some sort of circle.
"Nothing, really," Mira says with a bright smile. "We were just talking about what we should do for the soundtrack, and Kinana suggested this really good band she has ties with, they're pretty famous on YouTube – Oracion Seis, if you've heard of them – and it just so happens that Erza knows their manager."
Lucy feels as though there's a story there, but now isn't the time. "That's great! Then we should have music sorted, right?"
Mira nods eagerly, resting a hand on Erza's shoulder. "Kinana, you want to see Erik, right? Why don't you take some of the others and go down there yourselves? I'm sure he'd love to see you. I'd go myself, but I have to stay and help Lisanna set up some stuff for the next DIY show."
Lucy can almost feel Erza's panic as Kinana considers the idea. "Alright, I don't see why not," she finally says. "Erza, Levy, Lucy, would you mind coming with me?"
"Of course! Of course we'll come with you," Erza says, perhaps a little too loudly, and Laxus snorts.
"Have fun with your boyfriend," he says, though he's looking at Erza when he says it, and she just hides her head in her hands.
Kinana is the one who drives them down, since she knows the way off by heart. Lucy spends her time alternating between concern for a suspiciously silent Erza and researching the band they'll be (hopefully) hiring for their film. She actually has heard of Oracion Seis, or she's at least seen them around on YouTube. They're an up-and-coming band known for experimenting with genres, and they have a very edgy style, even going by stage names rather than their real names. Of course, the internet is a place of knowledge, and she can find them with a simple Google search.
Another search reveals the name of their manager, a one Jellal Fernandes, and Lucy wonders where he and Erza know each other from. She isn't about to pry, though. If she's being completely honest, it's a little unsettling to see Erza so quiet, and if Erza wasn't as tough as she is, she would be a little more worried.
They arrive a little later than expected, but Kinana doesn't seem too put off by it. "It's normal to be set back a bit by the traffic," she says as she pulls into the studio building's underground parking lot.
Following Kinana's lead, they head to the elevator and wait for her to press the button to one of the top-most floors. Lucy taps her feet to the elevator music as they ascend. It's different than the usual elevator music, more pop-sounding, and she wonders if the studio plays songs their artists have made all around the building. It would make sense.
The elevator opens into a classy looking lobby with red carpet blue walls. It should be a little jarring, the contrast, but Lucy finds that she likes it. Kinana approaches the reception desk, which is being attended to by a pink-haired woman. Said woman looks up once a shadow falls over her desk and she smiles brightly. She recognises Kinana, at the very least.
"Kinana, hi! I wasn't expecting you today!" She peers around Kinana and spots Erza, her smile becoming even wider. "And Erza, too! I haven't seen you in forever!"
Erza smiles, though she still seems uneasy. "Hello, Meredy."
"Sorry I didn't call ahead," Kinana says. "I'm here to see Erik, but I'm also here to ask him and the others about something work-related. If I have to make an appointment, that's fine –"
"– Of course you don't have to make an appointment!" Meredy says, waving her hand dismissively. "Erik's always grumpy, but when he sees you he's happier, which means he works better. You're our lifesaver, you know."
Kinana flushes and shakes her head. "I'm sure that's not true."
"Oh, it is. You just don't see it 'cause he's always happy around you," Meredy says before pressing a button on her desk phone. "Hey, Jellal! Kinana's here, and guess who she brought with her? Just guess!"
"Meredy, would it kill you to behave a bit more professionally in front of our guests?" comes the reply from the speaker phone.
"Yes," Meredy says, smirking. "And you didn't even try to guess!
Erza steps forward. "That won't be necessary, I promise –"
There is a crash from the other end of the line and Meredy starts cackling. Lucy can feel a fit of giggles coming on herself, but she manages to suppress it in favour of sparing Erza from any further embarrassment. For now, anyway, because she feels as though it's only going to get worse once Erza and Jellal see each other face to face.
"Just send them in, Meredy," Jellal says in a tired voice.
"Will do!" Meredy replies cheerily, releasing her hold on the button. "Just go straight in! They're in the break room, Kinana will show you the way."
Kinana says a quick 'thank you' before heading into a corridor off to the side. There are several doors, all of them closed, but Lucy is more interested in the decor. There are awards hung on the wall as well as autographs and photos of different artists. There are quite a few of Oracion Seis, probably because this is their designated area of the building. She assumes that the blue-haired man beside Meredy in most of the pictures is Jellal, but she's about to find out.
They stop outside the last door to the right and Kinana knocks. The door muffles the sounds from inside, but Lucy can hear someone wolf whistle, and laughter follows. It's only when the door opens that everything can be heard, though not seen, because Erik, otherwise known as Cobra, stands in the way. He's taller than Lucy anticipated, but any air of intimidation he may have had disappears once he sees Kinana. It's quite cute.
"Hey," he says right before he spots everyone else. "You brought friends? That's a first."
Kinana just smiles. "That's because I'm not just here to hang out. We have a business proposition for you."
This surprises Erik, who raises his eyebrows, but he still moves out of the way so they can all enter. "Well then, come on in."
They enter into some sort of lounge decorated with music memorabilia, the smell of coffee filling Lucy's senses, and it doesn't take long to find out why when there are half a dozen coffee cups on the main table. The rest of the band sits on the sofas towards the edge of the room. Lucy vaguely remembers each of their names, and it seems that all of them are here. The lead vocalist, Sorano (Angel), is adjusting her high-heels, her elbow occasionally jabbing Sawyer's (Racer's) side, much to his annoyance. Richard (Hoteye) is notating something on a series of music sheets and Macbeth (Midnight) is asleep with an entire sofa all to himself. Jellal is sitting in the single armchair in the room, looking incredibly nervous.
"Hello, Jellal," Erza says, surprisingly composed compared to how she was acting previously. "It's good to see you."
Jellal smiles, and Lucy notes that while there is definitely some nervousness there, his eyes speak louder than his mouth does. He looks so happy to see her. It's subtle, but it's there. "Likewise, Erza."
"So, what's up?" Erik asks, deciding to ignore the two other lovebirds in the room as he shoves Macbeth so he's only taking up half of the couch as opposed to all of it.
"Well, Fairy Tail is entering a short film contest and we were wondering if you guys could do the soundtrack for it," Kinana says. "As long as you're not busy, of course. The deadline is in a few months, so it all depends on what you're doing."
The band, with the exception of Macbeth, shares a few looks that Lucy can't quite interpret, and it's Erik who speaks again. "Well, I'm down for it."
"Of course he is, it's for his beloved Kinana," Sawyer says, not bothered by the glare Erik sends his way. "But I'm down for it, too. What genre is it?"
"A fantasy romance," Levy says, then gestures to Lucy. "Lucy and I can fill you in on the rest of the plot details if you need them."
Sorano sits up, crossing one leg over the other. "A fantasy romance? Sounds like my sort of genre. I'm in."
"I have endless ideas for love songs," Richard says, and is he swooning?
Lucy eyes Macbeth, who hasn't moved since they began save for the rise and fall of his chest as he breathes. "Um, is it alright to make these decisions without everyone's input?"
Sawyer shrugs. "He's asleep for most meetings we have, so I wouldn't worry about it. As long as we tell him what's going on, he's usually fine with what we do. And if not? Tough luck." He looks to Jellal. "Now we just need our manager's input."
"You're actually asking for my opinion? Are you feeling okay, Sawyer?" Jellal jokes, but quickly sobers up. "I'm all for it. From a business standpoint, it's good. Fairy Tail is one of the most popular channels on the platform, aren't they? It should be good exposure."
Erik leans back in his chair, smug. "Please, don't act as though you don't know. You watch them just as much as I do. Whose videos are you usually watching?" He nods towards Erza. "Erza's, right?"
Jellal coughs and Erza looks away, though Lucy can see the faint blush on her cheeks. The two are saved from further awkwardness by someone's ringtone, and by the apologetic look on Levy's face, it's hers. Lucy watches her expression change to one of confusion.
"Sorry, I have to take this."
She moves to the opposite corner of the room and starts speaking in a low voice, too low for Lucy to hear. Rather than trying to eavesdrop on her friend's conversation, she turns to everyone else with a smile, and this seems to gather everyone's attention.
"So, the plot of our film –"
"Wait, what?!"
'Deja vu,' Lucy thinks as everyone turns to Levy, who is clutching her phone with both hands, biting her lip. Lucy quickly rushes over and puts a hand on Levy's shoulder. The sudden change in her friend's behaviour is too concerning for her not to.
"Levy? What's wrong?" she asks.
Levy sucks in a deep breath, and Lucy can vaguely hear the panicked voices of Jet and Droy on the other line. "They're gone. All the – our entire – all our videos on mine, Jet, and Droy's channels. They're all gone. We've been hacked."

More Returns
Here's a superb podcast on Peaks. May 30 is the most recent episode. A great listen. Counter Esperanto Podcast: Tangents About Twin Peaks: 10th Secret: The Return
On Tue, Jun 13, 2017 at 1:53 PM, Dom wrote: I'll check it out tonight.
So my Diane prediction was on the fucking money.
I got another theory I'm working on.
Who's the mysterious billionaire? I heard some people say it may be Audrey Horne. I heard some people say it is Jack (John Justice Wheeler). I heard some people say it is Phillip Jeffries or Evil Cooper.
Put on your tinfoil hat for this one. The Billionaire is Leo Johnson. He lived through his spider ordeal. Then he took everything that Windom left behind (notes, computer files, other assorted Windom things) and built a criminal empire. I find it very hard to believe that the fucking casting director's son who was in the 1st two seasons and the fucking movie is NOT in this one.
The secret history of twin peaks tells us what happens to a bunch of characters like Leo. For instance Hank dies in prison. But not one word in the book about Leo? I got to believe that he lives and he’s not just a slobbering fool any more. I know this is probably not going to happen. But that's my theory.
I cannot imagine Leo is a rich billionaire — how did he make his money? A theory that makes sense I’ve heard on EW TP podcast that it could be BOB-Cooper attempting to catch Good Cooper if he ever left the Lodge. But really, I have no idea… not as of end of P7.
I like how Lynch-Frost are using all official Twin Peaks releases as canon to draw the narrative from — Laura’s Diary, FWWM, Missing Pieces of blu-ray edition, as well as many classic episode threads.
And like Erik, I KNOW, that Sheriff Harry S. Truman will make an appearance in this season. I feel it in my bones.
It’s looking grim for Harry — or rather, it sounds grim from Frank saying to Harry, “beat this thing.” But actually I can see Ontkean coming out of retirement to have a role toward the end of the series. I also (want to) believe Josie returning … maybe she’s the billionaire, but why would she make such a contraption mounted to the side of building?
On Sun, Jun 25, 2017 at 2:26 AM, Erik wrote: Good Morning Gents. Grab a cup a joe and settle down a minute. I got some backed up information for yous … << Starts Tape Recorder…. >>
Spot on is right Mr Domi. You got that Diane was Laura Dern AND that she drinks at the Pub we went to. I even want to say she is seated in the area of the bar that we were sitting at that night. Glad it wasn't raining when we went, "FUCK Gene Kelly, You mother fucker!!" LOL I love Albert, he is my favorite this season. (Location: Max Von's Bar = Casey's Irish Pub, 619 South Grand, LA)
So Episode 7 should have shut up all those whiner's and complainer's of Ep 6. There was a lot of hate on the internet, and even in our FB Group, about that episode. I was ok with it. I did not like the scene with the kid getting hit by the truck, but the scene ended with the Fat Trout Telephone pole, so I'm ok with it.
"Lynch has gotten flak for the male gaze in his work, but the problems go a lot deeper than lingering shots on female anatomy.…” Laura Hudson in Vulture.
Also in EP 6 we finally got two major new pieces of music from Angelo, not his best work, but still great to hear. The overall lack of his music is my biggest complaint this season in case I didn't make that clear.
When Johnny Jewel's Windswept first appeared, I thought that was Badalamenti finally debuting new music. I was definitely disappointed it was not Angelo, no disrespect to Johnny. But I agree with you Erik about no AB original score. That music is what made classic Peaks so memorable. I don’t get why Lynch is using such popular music. There really wan’t any such tracks in FWWM, it was Angelo’s music and further cemented Peaks as evergreen. Lynch is acting like Scorcese in the epic cinematic story… and he doesn’t need to. Marty did not have a Badalamenti in his arsenal. Lynch does. Please use him.
EP 7...There's a body alright.. is definitely the shit. Now we are cooking. Jerry!!!! Come out of it man... Lets get Ben and Jerry back in action, not disfunction. The diary pages, Annie's message from FWWM, Leland hiding pages, DIANE from hell! ... Bringing it all back home.
There’s a dark undercurrent with Diane and Cooper. All signs are indicating something very bad happened to Diane. I think BOB-Cooper raped her.
I wonder where Frank Truman was at the time of Laura's murder? He says he remembers Leland, her father, did it, but is not really familiar with the case. BUT why the heck is Frank not asking "So what is "the Lodge" you keep talking about?” Hawk?
The way Hawk talks so knowledgable about both Lodges and the way Frank does not question or disbelieve him, then it must be common knowledge among the indigenous culture. Wonder if Frank is a Bookhouse Boy?
Ancient Doc Hayward, kinda sad, but he was still funny. Did you catch his Skype name? MiddleburyDoc... Warren Frost was actually living in VT right? They probably actually did just Skype him and screen capture it…lol
I caught that right away about Warren Frost’s Skype handle. And no doubt, Frost stayed in Vermont to do his scene. That just recorded the screen.… I do miss Briggs. Yet he died long before Lynch-Frost’s three-year tenure writing the new story, they had plenty of time to work the presence of him into the story.
Briggsy.. Oh Major Briggs. how we miss thee. Should be interesting how this plays out. And When the hell are we going to go back to I bet the road where Andy is waiting to meet the Truck owner is up there at Frankln Canyon Pond.
The Dog Leg.... WTF? Is Joe McCluskey the guy that rigged the car and Mr C Killed earlier on? I do think the Psycho Little guy with the Ice Pick and Gun is kinda silly. Over the top for no reason. Oh well.… It's kinda silly also that no one has taken Dougie to the Doctor. Everyone just plays along. we have to suspend disbelief I guess.
OMG enough with the guy sweeping at the Roadhosue. Is this all the extra time he told Shotime he needed more money for to tell the story properly? lol and more music used in hundreds of shows and commercials. I love Booker T and the MGs don't get me wrong, but ... UGH I miss you Angelo... Also... Kinda weird to see Jean Michel... Did Jacque Renault have a twin brother? lol Mr. C and Ray getting out of Prison.. Bad stuff gonna happen. I think they might have used San Bernadino County Jail for this locaton. The Cell block Cooper is located on looks familar. I will compare some screen grabs from my Locaton and Publicity Photos we took for Beyond Scared Straight at that jail.
And beause they needed to pad the ending to get to the alloted running time... Back to the RR Diner for the end scene, and yet another over-used stock song they probably had to pay more to use than what they paid Angelo for everything. Plus, I liked that song better when they used it in the X-files episode “Home" but No, I'm not bitter.
General notes: Glad Naomi Watts has such a big part. She really owns her scenes. Wish Jennifer Jason Leigh was more present but Mr C just left Jail for somewhere... It's slightly brilliant how Lynch (but probably Frost came up with it) still has made Harry a character in the show. even if only on the phone and never even heard. I feel like Harry is there kinda. Also brilliant... Robert Forrester.... wow. Wish he was in the original or the movie. Not sure how I feel with Dern as Diane. I'll go with it and see what happens.
Outstanding questions for me....(cause I haven't been reading blogs or listening to podcasts)
What is up with all the Arthurian Legend references? Dougie lives on Lancalot Court, down the street from the Merlin Market. Janey-E meets for the ransom drop on the corner of Gueneivere and Merlin. And of course, Glastonbury Grove... Pete Martel: "King Arthur's burried in England!"
Why is it when Dougie puts his thumb up or his hand out to shake, he turns his body 180 degrees?
What is up with the creepy guy (from Mulholland Diner scene) in the Vegas Office? I can't seem to catch his meaning in the story line.
What is up with Cooper's Room Key from the Great Northern? If has finally made it back to Ben Horne...Soooo?
One last question... Did Lynch quit smoking? He made two references to people (Gordon Cole even) quitting. Did we ever even see Cole smoke in the series or movie? weird for him to say he quit when the character never smoked on camera. "You think about that Tammy."
On Jun 25, 2017, at 4:29 PM, Dom wrote: I think Frank Truman was a police officer in Seattle during Laura's investigation if I remember the book correctly. But I think that a "Sheriff Truman" has been in power for over 60 consecutive years now between the 2 brothers and their father. It sort of like there must always be a Stark in Winterfell.
To my knowledge that was the first time ever we have heard name Joe McCluskey. I have no clue who that is. But I have a feeling we will learn.
Yea, I don’t recollect Joe McCluskey. Gotta watch again to see if he first appears or is mentioned earlier.
I think Ike the Spike is either from the black lodge or an agent of the black lodge. Remember he smelled "funny" per the little girl.
Spike did look a little monstery, his teeth especially.
I actually loved that scene of the sweeping. I could just imagine everyone watching was freaking out and I enjoyed that. And I thought that Walter did some great acting while on the phone as Jean-Michel. "He owes me for two!"
That ending scene from the RR diner was weird as shit. Its either the worst continuity error of all time or something truly weird happened there. Completely different set of people dining there after David Lynch's son runs in and asks if anyone has seen Billy.
Lynch did not quit smoking. He, like Harry Dean are lifers.
Both Laura Dern and Naomi Watts are killing their roles. Both doing a fantastic job. I just cannot wait to see them come face to face over Dougie.
And MacLachlan! All his Cooper iterations are really well done. I love that BOB-Cooper character. Can’t wait to see what trouble he kicks up now!
My new tin foil theory is that we may be dealing with 2 Twin Peaks. Twins of each other if you will. I'm still working this one out. Different versions of the same town in different universes a part of a greater multiverse?
Did you notice Andy was wearing a rolex? Kind of weird.
…And he was supposed to meet the guy at 4:30. Is that one of the numbers from ????? ?
The guy from the Vegas office is working directly for Phillip Jeffries or whoever is pretending to be him IMO.
Don’t overlook the black soot guy walking in the hallway toward the female FBI agent in the morgue. I think it’s related to the guy next to Bill Hastings cell.…
Lots of Arthurian Legend stuff from way back when. I never got that. But its seems to be very important. I would love to go to Merlin's Market.
During the end credits from the last episode buried in the music is Windham Earle's theme mixed into the background too!!!!!
I might try headphones for tonight’s part to see exactly what sounds I miss. I know there’s a lot of low audible noise and rumbling that I don’t hear when our apartment is 86º and the fan is going.…

Yeah I agree about MacLachlan is killing it and should win an Emmy for best actor. Black soot guy is awesome and its the same dude for sure from the jail cell. Some people seem to think we have seen him a third time as a homeless man outside of Vegas at the Rachera Rosa is whatever it is called. I don't think that we did. I will need to re-watch that again. Another tin foil hat theory. On those three pages from Laura's diary she refers to knowing who it is and that its not Bob. At least everyone thinks she is referencing Leland. That is probably most right. However I am thinking that she is referring to an evil more powerful and sadistic than even Bob.Like whatever came out of the glass box and mutilated those younglings.

I am thinking if the guy in the diner eating food non-stop the whole scene with Ray and the chick Mr C shot in the head. Just before he kills her, he tells her "i killed joe, and the she freaks out, knowing the gig is up. The previous scene the eating guy "joe" does something to a car in storage and then cooper like squeezes his face for a whole minute. Could be McCluskey?

Well, its mighty fine of him to send a non smoking message to all the youths. Considering Cole does not smoke, it is a conscious message.

Yes, Kyle will def get an Emmy nomination. Dern and Watts will also I predict.

There are no accidents on a Lynch set. If an error occurs and he likes it he will use it. So who knows why he did it. On the same level as the windows flashing code on the FBI jet. He is throwing out decoys i feel.

Then why the heck is Truman not like "well lets go up there" nor does Hawk tell him he was up in those woods when Log Lady last called.

Nope, I did not mention him cause i consider it another decoy. Kinda like the shambling being behind the diner in Mulholland Drive...never came up again. i am sure he will play a part at some point.
But i did forget to mention the playing card Mr. C showed the girl in the hotel bed before he shoots her. Aliens? Very well could be.
Have a good viewing. The damn internet saying EP 8 is extra noteworthy. Could it be Phillip Jeffries? Windom Earl? More Leland and Laura? (I actually doubt we will see either of them again). Audrey? Big Ed? They got plenty of options.
Cheers! ~G
