I joke a lot about Jon's tendency to get kidnapped, but honestly it's horrifying. Like, first kidnapping he goes from one near death experience to another, then has to go and confront his evil boss while still being threatened with death if he doesn't get results, Elias drops a bunch of bombshells, and is a victim blaming prick, then has to go home, records another statement -- that we know are draining, then takes Georgie's statement, and oh yeah in the week prior to this he wasn't at Georgie's home, and right he's got a burn and a neck wound that haven't got medical attention, and all of the above happened in the span of at absolute maximum two days.

Second kidnapping lasts for a month. A month of being tortured by lotion mannequins. Ah, there's some fridge horror to think back on. And then, his "rescue" is Michael threatening to kill him, and he accepts because dying is better than staying there, where he's presumably come to the -- unfortunately correct -- assumption that no one is coming for him. And then when Helen replaces/becomes Michael, he still doesn't know that he'll live. For all he knows, he is willingly walking through a door to his own death. And when he comes back he has to have a conversation with the aforementioned victim blaming prick, and stop Melanie from trying to kill Elias, who then blames him for her being stuck there, oh- and then has to record another statement.

The third kidnapping is somehow more tame than the other ones, which is horrifying in of itself, because how the hell is a kidnapping more tame than the other kidnappings. Especially when Julia and Trevor do make it very clear that they will kill Jon if he is a threat to them. This is tame. This is the one that has the least chance of him ending up dead at the end of it. What the fuck. At least in his third kidnapping he lives up to his reputation of World's Worst Kidnappee.

In conclusion, vote for Jon in the "Tumblr's Poorest Little Meow Meow" competition. This man did not get kidnapped three times to be upstaged by Will Graham.

Also, another, better, conclusion, Jon's really had a rough go of it, and although the jokes are quite funny, and I make them a lot, when you think about it it's like. What the hell.

Hello I have been consumed by the Magnus Archives for about a month and was required to draw a Michael watching the Archivist fall for eternity (gif version under the cut)

I think Mike Crew is one of my favorite avatars!

Struck by lightning as a child and haunted by a twisting fractal shape through his life, he interacts with books aligned to the corruption, the flesh, and (I believe) the eye, before giving himself to the vast and successfully becoming an avatar!

And on top of that he's got a badass scar, a very polite demeanor, and a really nice voice!

I can't wait to hear more from him throughout the stor-

Ps, mad props to Jon's voice acting this episode! The whole kidnapping he sounds like he's in genuine distress!

Jonny really took Mike Crew (and Jurgen Leitner for that matter) and said let's introduce a character that has been built up for the longest time and kill them almost immediately :D

some thoughts about mag 91 for @a-mag-a-day

does Jon really know at this point that he's compelling people? or until Daisy says it out loud does he just think people are having unreasonable reactions to him asking simple questions?

it's also so interesting to me how the other avatars react to being compelled! Jude got angry, Mike throws Jon into freefall, but they both answer the question. Are they able to resist but only by delaying the answer? Or can they wholesale ignore the compulsion like Elias maybe can?

that comment Daisy made about as soon as she touched the tape she wanted to give it to Jon -- is that actually because of Beholding or was that really the Web, controlling her to manipulate Jon?

Daisy is absolutely brutal, but while Jon is my absolute fave, I can't deny that if she'd killed him, she would've prevented the apocalypse, or at least set it back significantly. Obviously none of them know that at that point, but in retrospect it's interesting to think about

I really like that Basira comes to Jon's rescue. They have a fascinating friendship and I like how calm and measured Basira is about everything. She cares a lot about Daisy, but she's not going to let Daisy kill him.

I did. Everyone who listens to TMA probably has at some point. So I took a few quizzes and saw what I got.

My thoughts: Interesting. A thing this and most of the other quizzes do is ask about choices such as preferences (especially hobbies and aesthetics) or worldviews. Cool. And The Eye does fit me and my own fears well.

My thoughts: Two repeats. Well, if I do end up as an avatar of The Eye, I can compete with Elias and learn new information immediately. Sounds good! (With a lot of caveats—but still good!)

I’ve been thinking about a few characters and well, spoilers for MAG 91, MAG 151, and maybe some mentions of stuff in MAG 160.

I don’t know what it is about the people associated with The Vast that interest me so much. But, Michael Crew was one of my favorite “monsters” when he made his statement, and I loved Simon when he had his statement given in 151.

I think there must be something about The Vast and the people that serve that just interest me so much. Like, they have a distance from things, that’s how it feels. Like they aren’t too concerned with things?

Like, Michael Crew kind of wanted to avoid confrontation with Jon rather than just killing him, and even after he gave his statement, he was willing to let Jon go, like it didn’t really bother him too much, being compelled. Like after a while, he managed to get some distance from the whole thing.

And then, Simon’s whole statement is interesting to me, like he feels so distant, like he doesn’t really care. And he doesn’t, he prefers the idea that all the rituals are doomed to fail.

Also, the way some of their voices work, it just interests me so much. Like, Simon sounds like an avatar of The Vast, I don’t know how to describe it, but when I heard him speak, I remember thinking that his voice fits.

There’s something about the distance they have that allows them to see the big picture and really make them seem less invested in things that I like. And it’s funny because that really seems more like The Lonely.

Like taking a step back from everything, it’s more than the examples Simon gave at the beginning of his statement, The Vast is about the big picture, extremely large concepts, so those that serve it can take a step back and really look at it all.

And when you take a step back from it all, you kind of separate yourself from everything else, so that’s just another example of how it’s not just separate entities, The Lonely and The Vast are intrinsically linked in some ways, you can’t separate them.
