After two years of scouting, scavenging and looking, we are happy to announce the 16 best artists we could find from East to West Europe! These young artists have proven their talent in Poland, at Krasiczyn Castle last week, giving the jurors and the audience amazing performances and exhibitions. They will fly to Rome from October 18th to 20th and they will be among the 48 talents selected from all over Europe to join other 1500 artists in the huge festival called Biennal MArteLive. EOREMA by Massimiliano BOMBA

The film EOREMA by Massimiliano BOMBA firstly caught my attention as the film style and colour choices made me think of my own film in progress and how I envisioned my own piece. When listening closely to the sound design of EOREMA, I realised that some elements within the piece are sounds that could be missing within my own film. Such as the sounds of breathing in through the nostrils at 00:16. I also like the choice of adding a voice-over of someone counting, which has been blended in well with the occasional bouts of instrumental (ambient music), which is rhythmically added alongside the clips transitions. There's a collective balance that works well between visuals and sound.

What stands out the most from the soundscore of the two dance films above is how the filmmakers have created a soundscape, which creates a sense of place and rhythm. The film is heightened by the non-diegetic elements of noises you wouldn't typically hear in reality. However, the sounds fit to add form, depth, different rhythms and symbolism.

It celebrates our vulnerability, praises the beauty of fleeting moments, nostalgia, and finding inner peace and acceptance despite our failures, fears, burn-outs, and sorrows. Delicate, almost improvised piano song, together with visuals, illustrate the undefined longing for both the unknown journeys and familiar places we would like to find ourselves in.

Z Zielonych doskonała jest też Magdalena Gałkiewicz z Łodzi (okręg 9), ósma na liście, ale mówię wam – przeskoczcie poprzednie numerki i głosujcie na nią! Zaufanie budzi też Milka Stepien – dwójka na liście KO z Konina (okręg nr 37), aktywistka, która zjeździła cały świat i Tomasz Aniśko – zielona jedynka KO w Lubuskim (okręg nr 8) jedyna taka odważna decyzja) a przede wszystkim startująca z miejsca 6 okręgu Bielsko Biała (okręg nr 27) fenomenalna i bardzo przyszłościowa Gabriela Lazarek, członkini Partii Zielonych, słynna z protestów na rynku na całą Polskę fryzjerka. The music choice is simple yet effective in telling a story without a sound design filled with dialogue of narrative and description. 

The visuals are melodiously and tenderly telling of a peaceful and yet fulfilling moment, which feels free and passing. The colour grading and tonal and stylistic visuals

The film reminds me of a wholesome acceptance of being alone, and has a similar quality to Chloe Zhao’s Nomadland (2020).

The Echo

“THE ECHO is an anthology of short visual expressions.pt.1 - based on the poem 'The Rider' by Naomi Shihab Nye.

A coming of age tale. A young boy, on the outer of the outer, in a nameless place, discovers the faster he goes, the closer he can get to outrunning his loneliness.”

THE RIDER: A boy told me if he roller-skated fast enough his loneliness couldn’t catch up to him, the best reason I ever heard for trying to be a champion. What I wonder tonight pedaling hard down King William Street is if it translates to bicycles. A victory! To leave your loneliness panting behind you on some street corner while you float free into a cloud of sudden azaleas, pink petals that have never felt loneliness, no matter how slowly they fell.

Echo is a poetic short film, from the dialogue, visuals and sound design. The cinematography feels nostalgic and strangely soothing. The visuals feel fictional and yet close and familiar in terms of the natural qualities within the piece. From the way the protagonist glides his index finger along the dusty sink in a wave like trace.

Colonna Coffee ‘Artist’ 30”

Within this portraiture film Colonna Coffee ‘Artist’ 30” it’s simple and short yet affective in telling us who the portraiture is about. The textural and tonal qualities of the visual style is again, soothing, from the soft and grainy textures of the visual format. The film seems to have been filmed by using either a 35mm film video camera, or 16mm film camera.

Fast paced and yet slow paced in moments. Expressing a sense of speed, and a busy life style, and yet mixed with calm moments to express a reflection from the character. The visuals, again feel comforting and nostalgic.
