thinking abt the eliot fen marriage again and it makes me so angry. how do u fumble two characters so bad. how do u take the only (from what i remember) canonically gay characters from the book series you’re adapting, the LESBIAN and the GAY MAN, and say Ok these two are gonna be married but the Lesbian is gonna be a Straight woman and kinda homophobia to the Gay man.

obvs it's been a delight magiciansposting with someone who has many of the same (very correct) opinions, and i find that your posts often clarify things for me in a very helpful way! ditto for your posts on lgbt issues and history, which are so understanding and thoughtful - i really admire people who talk about/respond to difficult things in good faith, and i feel like you do that. i love reading your thoughts on books, and i'm excited to see how this book club shakes out!

also i think you write margo so well, possibly the best of anyone i've read, and although i have not read as much of your fic as i'd like, i always come away feeling like i've read some really good insights into the characters.

everytime u magicianspost i hear a little siren call bc ive READ the first one and ive literally also thought "this is good but its also very bad" so like. i KNOW if i let myself read more of them id get sucked in just like u. mirror dimension

LOL OH NOOOO ... yeah it's like actually kind of amazing how good but also very bad those books are. like truly you have hit the nail directly on the head. earlier today i was like holy shit lev grossman is a god among men....maybe i just wasn't old enough to appreciate the first 2??? and then like FIVE pages later i was like. oh. 😐. nvm.

& the thing that gets me is that like some of the individual moments and imagery are like. SOOOO good like SOOO!!!! so good and they will stay with me forever (i think at one point i even had an iphone note with all of them listed) & that really have made this whole thing worth it for me but then 3 paragraphs later it's like ...... ok freak? why did you SAY that ????? anyway. strange & occasionally horrible book experience but i will say that although i do sometimes actually abhor quentin the specifics of his depression make up i think THE perfect structure for the series. lev was a genius for that truly. don't know about the rest of it though 🤨

alice is a small neurotic shaking field mouse caught in a thunderstorm outside in my grandpas wheat stalks and when i find her i will pick her up and put her in my pocked take her inside out of the rain to our old ranch house to offer shelter hide her in a small box in my room and feed her bread and soup scraps until the storm passes .
