Death pursues them from the sky, the sea, and the land, while they live in constant fear of shelling that will destroy their homes over their heads. The text expresses the pain of children who tremble from the sound of shells, the pain of mothers who lose their children under the rubble, and the grief of fathers who are unable to provide food or water for their families. The scene there goes beyond imagination, as life turns into a desperate struggle for survival, amidst total destruction, hunger, and oppression, in a silent world that does not hear the groans of the victims.

It’s day 21 of the #smarchvinylchallenge by @brandudesrecordvault: World Traveler. Mahmoud Ahmed - Ere Mela Mela (Crammed Discs, 1986) I inherited this fascinating record from a friend whose adventurous taste in music was a powerful influence on my own. He died too soon in 1999 but even to this day I’ll sometimes think about a new record; “Stephen would have loved this!” These recordings were from 1985-78 but according to the press release, they were planning to get Ahmed into a multitrack studio for the first time and record new material.
