rewatching s3, on ep 2 (12:40) and it's so funny to me that you can see the EXACT moment she realizes she Failed a Social Interaction (in an autism way i mean) as kourtney walks away
Saylor's so good, you can always see it. I've never seen anyone so effectively play a character that somehow is both more and less expressive than a typical person would be. It's so clear that the over-happy is shown as a way to make sure at least some happy is visible.
Pretty girl has her realizations just a little too late.
Failure: when Kourtney is offering to help stage
Failure: suggesting the dramatic readings of the songs - thank you Gina.
Failure: Gina asks about EJ & Val - Maddox is not super great at reassuring nervous gfs.
Failure: excitement about Newbie Night - no one's listening.
Failure: Leo Rising Convo. Pt. 1 - honestly this one's on Ashlyn, Maddox was just giving a perspective, and she got real bent about it.
Failure: Leo Rising Convo. Pt. 2 - the need to elaborate and double down is real, and unhelpful to socializing.
Failure: Scary Campfire story - poor Maddie, we all know this one.
Success?: Ash comes by to help build sets - Maddox hightailing out of there before she does screw it up.
Success!: Ash talking about Val at the movie - Maddox's gaydar is beeping, but no one's yelling at her anymore.
Success: Hanging out with Ash during rehearsal - and being truly bad at acting, but socially she's ok.
FAILURE: said the wrong thing, that apparently Ash didn't know, and now.everyones mad.
Success: Teaching canoeing to Gina - Maddie noticed the innuendo this time, and caught herself.
Ect. Ect.
Maddox is trying so hard, but at camp everyone already knows her, they know what she means, it's just harder with these new kids. They don't have any knowledge of her before, the mutual links between them are either absent or super busy.
It's hard to mask in environments that have been safe for so long. And she has to deal with Jet being there.
In season 4 she really only has to mask while working, and even then she can pull off to the side with her friends and be herself.

So if Husk is a trans man, and his kid Violet is from when he was alive ... was he the one who gave birth to her? And does that mean that he wasn't out as a trans man at the time? And that his partner was a man?
He was in fact the one to give birth to her yes, but no one knew he was trans; he kept it hidden and bounced from place to place before anyone could start to question him 💀 he was on his own when Violet was born (terrible idea but he didn't want to risk being outed by going to a hospital)
Omg the partner thing is interesting; they split before husk realised there was a baby in the picture, and the partner never knew. Until me and albo accidentally made a whole arc of said partner wanting to get redeemed at the hotel cause they're also in hell, and now it's a whole thing because a big part of why they split was due to transphobia from the partner but since landing in hell they've realised a lot of that was actually internalised because they are also trans and it is a wholeass arc of this au now LOL

Sometimes you´re out grocery shopping and idly browsing the frozen veg section when you suddenly remember that the queen threw up after Erik´s death when Wille said he´s always been compared to his brother and Wille threw up when he realized he´s going to have to keep being crown prince.
And you think about similar reactions to stress of parent and child and you remember the queen told Wille to take three deep breaths when he freaked out over Simon´s date and how she sends him to therapy to control his outbursts (ugh).
And you think where did it all go wrong that she can´t ever connect with her son when she´s obviously got some experience in that department. I think we meet her so far into her own history of controlling her emotions that she´s unable and mostly unwilling to connect even when Wille is outright asking her to be his mom (gah!), because oh hey, those would be more emotions she would need to allow to break through, and those walls are staying. Maybe in her mind even for Wille´s own good, to teach him how it´s done.
And there´s certainly reasons for those walls and it´s probably part self-protection and probably people telling her from a young age she needs to have them, and probably also because she´s a woman on the throne, so people would probably insist a little extra on them.
The most honest and raw I´ve seen her in the show is the moment she throws up.
(I usually question what she´s saying to Wille or August, no matter what warm or soft tone she´s using about what the court allegedly wants her to do, how it´s not really her, and how she actually supports Wille etc, as she´s been proven to manipulate Wille (and August in S2) into doing what she thinks is best for the institution she´s the head of. The one whose survival is always the priority, as per her own words.)
She´s shown to do royal business in what looks like pyjamas after all, the most casual and private of clothes, telling us there´s no separation, ever, that she´s always the queen. She rolls her eyes at her son after ending a phone call in which a rattled Wille sits among shards of glass negotiating with her (!), after she wanted to forcibly remove him from school. She doesn´t ever truly seem torn or conflicted, except that one time she throws up.
When her emotional core literally breaks its way out of her against her will.
No wonder she completely underestimates Wille and the depth and power for change his emotions hold after he´s finally allowed some therapy (that he could have used long ago just for growing up in that institution) and experienced actual emotional growth and healing instead of using it for control like she probably has. No wonder she and the court collectively underestimate Simon and what his love, what their love and connection mean to Wille. (Looking at you, Jan-Olof, allowing Wille a moment with Simon, you fool!) It´s simply been too long behind those impenetrable walls that she can´t even see it anymore. Until her son shows her. And you wonder if he´s even breaking through to her, or if she´s just been confirmed in her fears about his emotional unruliness and will dig in deeper inside her fortress. (Another time if feels like we see some honest emotion from her is of course in S1 when she´s visibly angry as she says that nobody ever chooses the royal life, so maybe Wille can relay Boris´ message about choosing how to live your life to her? Maybe she´s not beyond Boris´ wisdom. Anyway.)
The show shines such an unforgiving light on that institution that chokes all feelings and individual freedom out of you, especially over such a long time as with the queen, but I love love love how hopeful and defiant Wille´s journey of deliberate progress is in the face of it.
And I do hope he´ll continue therapy and never allows his own walls back up once they´re down.

Me, whenever I think about how, in Yellowjackets, being a queen holds a death sentence as we see with Jackie, who is not only the leader of the group but possibly was the queen bee in high school, drawing in all the attention but also bearing the weight of responsibilities for her team. When she sees them going down a path she fears, that she doesn't understand and thinks it could bring them harm, she protests. She dies all the same. How Nat follows in her footsteps, even if she is a part of that path, which she hates. We see Nat be the one to go out in search of food even when in a dangerous climate, but does so because no one else will and the team counts on her. And because the other option is something she can't (won't) fathom. When Nat realizes that the group is slowly turning towards new ways, it becomes apparent that she can't resist it like how Jackie did, and so she accepts it even when it means her end. Only, it doesn't, or at least in the way she expected (Javi dies for her and she has to bear that weight) and, in the end, becomes the leader that the group needs, needs in that moment that Jackie couldn't be. That shift will forever haunt her in ways that the other members of the team can never truly understand (Travis did, but he's gone, and still no one truly understands). The stain that follows her into adulthood, and, in the end, it will be the death of her.

I have said this before but me being self proclaimed number 1 Ryoma fan and that being possibly literal-bc even if this bro had fans before me I might’ve simply done the most for him by talking about him so much + being the first to write fics that are in depth studies on his trauma across canons-I gotta say if there’s one other character I rotate a lot that isn’t him it’s probably Kei. (Shocking it’s not Hayato even if I do think about him too- but it’s usually associated with Ryoma bc gays 🗿)
I’m not even exaggerating when I say Kei would be my favorite and only isn’t because she doesn’t exist in many other canons yet my brain rotates the endless possibilities of how to incorporate her. I’ve already written a fic where she’s in shin vs neo verse which worked surprisingly well but I’ve been thinking how universally she could appear in other things. (Whether it be fitting her into a idea of a possible Go team in New or just a new canon completely) I think what I’ve narrow it down to is that she could be like- in Michirus role? Like she’s the supporting female who isn’t a pilot but helps out the real occasionally which I think would align very well especially with the original manga role she has of being Hayato’s assistant. And even if Hayato isn’t grandpa mode yet he still very much is in Saotomes position at that point. Not sure if she’d Hayato’s biological kid to further parallel Saotome and Michiru given well Hayato already adopts the Go team and his wife is irrelevant LOL.
I have no idea if I’ll ever write this specific idea but I’m still- rotating it cause this is such a easy way to get around “picking between Sho or Kei as the 2nd pilot” since both of them can still exist even if one doesn’t get to pilot, idm my supporting females. (Granted there could always be like- plot line where Sho gets hurt so Kei is temporary pilot but I can’t remember if Getter ever really did this since “once your hurt your ass is basically replaced” lol)

“You’re really going then?”
Remia tilted her head towards the man who had approached her. “You were with my sister and the true Warrior of Light at the edge of existence, were you not?” She said softly. “The Ancients spoke of the golden city. I doubt they’d mention it if it didn’t have to do with another reflection.”
G’raha chuckled. “So you have no interest in the Rite of Suceession then?”
“The affairs of other nations don’t concern me.”
“But Zero seems awfully invested in the Second Promises determination to bring innovation to his home.”
Her lips thinned. “Well, how Zero wishes to waste her time here is also none of my concern.”
He slowly nodded. “Uh-huh. It’s merely coincidence then that you’re accompanying her, Urianger, and Thancred to help Koana then?”
Remia sighed. “Is there a reason you’re bothering me about this, crystal-kitty?”
“I’m curious to learn what has caught the eye of the Silver Kitsune.”
“The tech-kitty is amusing enough to keep me entertained while I search for the information I need to reach the golden city. There’s nothing more to it than that.”
G’raha walked to stand beside her, his gaze falling to the calm waters of the Scholar’s Harbor. “Be honest with me for a moment, Remia,” he paused as he shifted his eyes to her, “are you using Koana?”
Her lips curled into a soft smile. “Of course I am.”
