Why didn’t you like TAR? Ngl I found it overrated too
spoiler warning for tar (2022), and tbh this is very ranty and gets very rambly
okay, so firstly, i will say that everyone in the film did give good performances, i get the cate blanchett hype, i'll give it that and the cinematography was nice
but like everything else? it just felt so shallow and full of itself. like okay wow white lesbians can fully assimilate into white male dominant spaces and be just as bad as them!! like okay, most poc already know this, this is a conversation that has been dabbled into for a while. and like fine, this is a film by a white person for white people, but even taking that into account, it still just feels like a film that's just talking without really saying anything. and i have things that i didn't really like or make sense to me like why is a supposed to be an up-and-coming conductor working as a personal assistant? why is the fact that whether or not she took advantage of her former pupil so ambiguous? and i'm sure there are others that i can't think of at the moment.
and like i can forgive everything i've said so far, but really it's the last ten minutes that just... but okay wow the fact that this is a film by a white person for white people really made itself known 💀 and like sure, i am a filipino who lives in the philippines, of course, i can like spot things others won't and be super nitpicky, but the portrayal and the implications the film makes of my country just makes me want to put todd field into a guillotine! like she has a big fall from grace in the western classical musical scene, at the bottom of the barrel is conducting a video game score in the philippines. like, firstly, is the whole it being meant to be the philippines but really filmed in thailand + that whole apocalypse now line meant to be some weird meta thing?? because it doesn't work either way. anyway, does todd field know that we have twitter in the philippines? does he not think in a nation that is one of the most consistently recorded as being very much Online, no one in the classical music sphere here would have heard of lydia tar? that no one would have made a post calling her and the event organizers out? i mean obviously not, based on how he portrays filipinos as being the ones stupid or not-in-the-know enough to give lydia a job. and like seeing it as almost an honor for them to have her, a white lady there, giving her flowers and a gift basket (idk how to word this it's just very colonial mentality). okay, there's two places the event she was hired to do would be happening at, manila and cebu, and since they went to pagsanjan (where apocalypse now was filmed) that can only mean that she's meant to be in manila. and so that just gets to me even more, because i live in manila, i have been to the nerd conventions, i have aunts with connections to the theater, one of them is literally a production manager in events!! and i say this because we see lydia in what is definitely a budget hotel room, then we see her at some random alleyway getting into a sketchy building while it's pouring rain, and then she's in a meeting in a very poorly lit room, and the scene where she's working in a karinderya. and like, the event she's been hired to do, which i later found out is kind of a big thing in japan (and that just adds to what i'm gonna say), would have been organized by people with money. and keeping the whole "it's an honor to have her" thing in mind, in real life, she would have been put up in a much nicer hotel room (i'm by no means rich, and i've stayed at much nicer rooms), they would have most likely arranged for someone to drive her to the meeting and the driver would most likely have an umbrella and would have held it as she walked to the door of an average office building most likely in a nice part of metro manila, then she would have gone to work in a starbucks. but no ofc this doesn't happen in the philippines it's a third world country, they don't know shit, and are definitely not known for their hospitality..... then there is ofc the massage parlor scene 💀 just really fucking disgusting all around. while it was a long time ago, i did write a paper on sex tourism in my country like i know this is a real thing that happens, but at this point, it has been way too many strikes for me. from the set-up, like ofc the man at reception thought she meant *that* (again, she would have been put up at a nicer hotel that probably would have had an in-house spa, also why did he have her prescription?? also we don't have those orange bottles here), and to like the scene itself?? like yes, a white person being asked to pick a sex worker in a line-up, excuse me, fishbowl (wow so oriental!!) in a third world country is a very appropriate parallel for the process of auditioning orchestra members 🙃
so yeah maybe i should be allowed to kill todd field

A fine morning view of Makati Business District 🇵🇭 by bro Eldon Tenorio . Mixed of old and new, of residential towers to mixed-use office buildings from brutalist to modern architecture, Makati City doesn't slow down on improving its cityscape.

I've been in the workforce for 5 years now and all my employers/offices were based in Makati. I've also lived for more than a year in Makati and endured the pricey tags that came with it.
I have a love-hate relationship with Makati.
I love the central business district area; the skyscrapers in contrast with the abundant greenery, the parks where I could just sit and be alone with my thoughts, the streets that bustle during the day and the peace they offer during the night, the maze-like underpasses, the diversity, the Starbucks cafés every other block, the cute overpass that stretches along De La Rosa St., and the anxiety the corporate world I associate with it brings to me.
I love and hate Makati.
I've traversed this area for so long that I already have the streets memorized. I remember being lost the first few months after I secured my first job-- it was funny and frustrating, but I didn't mind getting lost in that urban jungle. I liked discovering new cafes and parks I could hang out in.
I love and hate Makati.
I have so many memories of Makati; good and bad, but I love them all the same. I wish I could afford to live alone in Makati, but that wouldn't happen for a very long time.

Day 1
Thursday, July 20
I was anxious and nervous at first, because I haven't done this before. This on-the job training/internship it was suppossed to be done in senior high school but it was abrupted due to the COVID-19 pandemic so I did not get to experience it but now in college it was introduced to me. It was a subject and a requirement to pass being a 3rd year BACOM student. Now the day has come, along with my classmates Raidah and Lourdes. I went along with them and we hiked a taxi going to Shooting Gallery Studios, a 2-Studio complex located in the Central Business District of Makati City. I thought I was going in there but my expectations lowered. Then I met Ms. Mariane Amil, the HR officer and she introduced us the nature of working in Unitel Straightshooters and the first project was code named "Project Sportsfans". It was handled by Ms. Diana Colon, a production manager. Me and Raidah were assigned to that project while Lourdes is assigned to another project. I was curiosed about the shotlist and I read it, it was very well detailed and planned out, it maps out exactly what will occur and what will be used in that particular shot, or scene, of the film. It serves as a detailed checklist that gives the video a sense of direction and prepares the crew for film expectations. Then, I took photos of the talents and they changed their costumes alternately. I also edited a template for I.D. for the whole crew and they were printed in batches using a sticker paper, I also cutted out those papers and it's quite exhausting.

Specialty coffee and gourmet dishes at The Coffee Academics Cafe in Makati
Specialty coffee and gourmet dishes at The Coffee Academics Cafe in Makati
During an overcast Saturday morning in Makati’s Central Business District, you would think that the cafes there would be nigh deserted. After all, office workers who rely on their cuppa to energize them for their workday are mostly at home, enjoying the extra time they can spend in bed snoozing. However, such is not the case at the Coffee Academics Cafe along Carlos Palanca Street. In this cozy…

Dine For A Cause at the Hapag ni LuzViMinda Charity Dinner
Renowned Filipino celebrity Chef Jessie Sincioco recently held a charity dinner last April 23, 2023 called Hapag ni LuzViMinda at Chef Jessie’s Place in Makati. The Hapag Movement is an advocacy organized by Globe Telecom dedicated to alleviating involuntary hunger in the country. Together with the help of the Rotary Club of Makati Business District, the event was launched in support of this charitable endeavor and featured outstanding dishes inspired by recipes from all over the Philippines.
Hapag ni LuzViMinda united Chef Jessie Sincioco with one of her prodigies from her previous restaurant Le Souffle, US-based Chef Kay Carreon, who partnered with her in planning and preparing the four-hands menu. Featuring the best of Filipino cuisine, the special set menu gave guests a taste of the Philippine Fiesta while raising funds in support of The Hapag Movement. Each ticket to the dinner event cost P5,000 with 50% of the proceeds going directly to this meaningful cause.
The special fund-raising dinner was held at the third floor Events Hall of Chef Jessie's Place near J.P. Rizal in Makati. Chef Jessie is widely popular for her catering services and this building also serves as her office and as an events place as well.
Guests were first treated to cocktails at the roofdeck where Chef Jessie and her staff set up welcome drinks and appetizers for everyone.
It was quite a festive cocktail hour with Chef Jessie showcasing why she is one of the top caterers in the country today. The Fried Okra was a crunchy revelation that will make you think twice about this not so appreciated vegetable. There was also plenty of chicharon, pork barbecue, ceviche, and other bite-sized appetizers.
It was then time to head to the third floor where the hosts explained their advocacy. The Hapag Movement leverages technology and partnerships to raise funds and deliver critical support to affected families. As an estimated 15 million continue to grapple with involuntary hunger in the Philippines, the movement aims to change the lives of 500,000 Filipinos in four years through supplemental feeding, upskilling, and livelihood training activities.
Hapag ni LuzViMinda is a 6-course charity dinner organized by Globe Telecom and the Rotary Club of Makati in support of the Hapag Movement. Chef Jessie actively supports the Hapag Movement through her company, Manna Cuisine Corporation’s membership at the Rotary Club of Makati.
As part of her support for the Hapag Movement, Chef Jessie recently launched the Hapag Movement Menu every Monday-Wednesday at her restaurant, the Chef Jessie Rockwell Clubi. The menu features a selection of Filipino and fusion dishes, with half of the proceeds from each meal sold donated to the Hapag Movement.
The theme for Hapag ni LuzViMinda is the Pinoy Fiesta which highlights diverse flavors of the Philippines. Dinner started with the Sliced Pulpo over Sushi Rice with soy sauce jelly and aioli. This deconstructed sushi was a surprising dish that featured a fusion of Japanese styles and ingredients with Filipino flavors.
Next was the Chicken Binakol, a hearty bowl of chicken soup infused with coconut water, lemongrass, and ginger. Thin slices of young coconut meat also accompanied the broth which makes it a unique Filipino dish.
The third course was the Pan-Fried Fillet of Apahap in Mentaiko Bihod Sauce. This was one of the favorites that evening especially with the tender apahap enhanced with the special fish roe sauce.
The Pink Guava Caviar served as a palate cleanser course but it also turned out to be quite the attraction. The guava sherbet was very refreshing with its pronounced flavors.
The main course for Hapag ni Luzviminda was the Weeks Old Native Pork Porchetta served with atcharra rice and lowland greens. This was a fitting highlight as it featured juicy native roast pork with an ultra crispy skin. Chef Jessie and Chef Kay really teamed up well in showcasing the various dishes and flavors from all over the archipelago.
Lastly, the Purple Yam Truffle Bar with milk chocolate namelaka was a sweet ending to our journey around the Philippines. We would like to thank Globe Telecom for inviting us to participate in this wonderful charity dinner which earned over P200,000 that evening for The Hapag Movement. Watch out for more of these fund-raising dinners in the coming months which you can hopefully support as well.

When you first thought of Metro Manila, what was the first thing that came to your mind? The heavy traffic jam? The pollution? Am I right? I for once witnessed this kind of dilemma. But looking on the bright side, Manila's been cultivating urban developments and high-quality infrastructure in some of its areas including Makati and Taguig cities. One of the famous sites that features an integrated community of lifestyle is a business district called Bonifacio Global City, situated in the north of Taguig city.
Bonifacio Global City, also known as BGC, The Fort, or Fort Bonifacio, is one of the most photographic places in the city of Taguig, providing an easy access to leisure, socialization, relaxation, career,  business, and etc. BGC is one of the growing financial districts in Metro Manila that also maintains the urban lifestyle equilibrium.
STREET ART One of the things that I looked forward when visiting BGC was its unique murals, and since they're public street art, they're of course for free. If you are like me who has no sense of direction (haha not even kidding!), you can easily download a map of the mural locations in BGC, just like I did. I didn't find a 2017 version though, so I just followed the 2016 copy. I found a few mural locations before I ran out energy and they're really amazing.
INSTAGRAMMABLE RESTAURANTS BGC doesn't only offer artsy and Instagrammable walls but also restaurants. It has really nicely painted and well-maintained restaurants and other food places around the corner. From eastern to western food, BGC has a really diverse array of cuisines to choose from for us to satisfy our cravings.
I also got to visit Bonifacio High Street, an urban hub for food, shopping, events, and other leisure and entertainment activities in BGC. Bonifacio High Streetoffers a nice mall experience within the tranquility of a natural environment.
heres one picture when i was in bgc.
