Guide for Building a Website for Beginners
Tumblr media
For any small business owner, having an internet presence is essential. A professional, engaging website establishes confidence and trustworthiness while also allowing you to sell your company online. While the process of building a website may appear difficult at first, you can easily build a customized website on your own.
This comprehensive guide on how to build a website from the ground up will walk you through the entire process, no matter what type of site you wish to create.
According to studies, 76% of customers conduct online research before visiting a business in person. As a result, having a website is just as important for businesses nowadays as having a phone number.
We will walk you through both construction stages because WordPress is also a popular option. Regardless of which option you choose, you will be able to design a website in an hour.
Steps of How to Build a Website
Pick the correct website builder for you – A large number of people uses website builders to create websites. Wix has over 100 million users, while Shopify just hit 1.2 million. Choose a plan that meets your demands and fits your budget – After you have decided on a website builder, you will need to choose a plan. Multiple plans are generally available from website builders. Varied sites have different requirements, and plans ensure that you do not overpay for services you do not require. Pick a memorable and meaningful domain name – A domain name is a portion of the URL (the address in your browser’s search bar) that identifies a web page — in this example, your website.
Not More Than Three Fonts
The more fonts you employ, the more jumbled your website will appear. Different fonts for your headers, body content and one additional element (your logo or calls-to-action) are useful. It is absolutely great if your brand standards require you to use only one typeface. Simply ensure that the font is readable and at a reasonable size (the sweet spot for your content’s size is 14-16 px).
Designing for Mobile Devices
Today’s standard for website design is responsive web design. You will not be able to develop a responsive website without knowing how to use a grid system. Check out our post on responsive design for more information, and keep these pointers in mind.
Keep Navigation Straightforward
Keep your navigation straightforward and visible on every page to make it easy for your visitors to navigate your site. Make your logo clickable to the homepage and include it in your navigation. You have struck “web design gold” as long as your navigation is as simple as possible.

SEO guidelines For Web Designers
Research the best keywords for your site. Look at what your competitors are using for keywords, and try a few keyword tools. Remember to target your audience and consider all the word that they will type into the Google and Bing search engines.
This is an old trick, but is still effective. All you have to do is highlight one or two of your keywords when they first appear on the page. You do not have to keep highlighting the same keyword; you need only do it for its first appearance.
Do not name your pages (URLs) with numbers and symbols. Add in some words to make them easier for a human to read. In addition, you should try to make some of those words as descriptive as possible, and adding in a few keywords will help too.
Websites that are secure using https:// instead of http:// now appear higher in the search results. If you cannot install your own SSL certificate ask your host to do this for you. When it is installed, you have to make sure all your website pages are secure and not with mixed content. Also make sure that all your website version with http:// and with www. all forwarded to your new https:// URL.
You need to make sure that your website and your menus are well organized so visitors can easily find what they are looking for. Add Call To Action and Forms to your pages to make it easy to contact you or shop.
Google and Bing/Yahoo are optimized to search out high quality content. Their methods for determining quality are fairly crude, but it will not help your case if your content is weak, fluffy, heavily SEOed and has multiple obvious spelling mistakes. Search engines measure how much time people spend on your website after using search. If you have a bad website people will leave it faster.
Your page title is a very important piece of text because it tells the reader what the page is about and it tells the search engine what the page is all about. So, you should try to add a keyword or two into the title. Just make sure the title is still easy to read for humans.
The render time is the time it takes for a web page to go from white, to starting to load. A long render time will increase your bounce rate. The loading time is the time it takes from the beginning of the render, to the point where everything is loaded. A long loading time will damage your websites SEO.
Every page should have at least three internal links on it. Three is the bare minimum, and this includes checkout pages too. Internal links are the ones that link one page to another. External links are the ones where you link your page to one outside of your website.
Learn how to use them correctly and then apply them to your website. They show the search engine which words are important and which are not. It will help you if your web content is quite varied.
There are hundreds of widgets that you can add to your website. They will help you to link social media and your website. Do not put the widgets everywhere, but the addition of a few here and there will help your SEO in the long term.
Create an XML sitemap. If you have a WordPress website, you can create a nice XML sitemap with the Yoast SEO tool which will create a dynamic XML sitemap for you. Then you have to add the URL of your sitemaps to your Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools account.
This is very important because people now do more searches from mobile devices than from desktop or laptop computers. Make sure that your website can be used easily from a cell phone. Contact forms should be easy to fill and submit. All your phone numbers should be clickable.
This is what may appear on the search engine’s results page, and is a nice opportunity to sell the content of your web page. Create this text that will make people to click on your website. You should make sure that it has keywords in it if you want to feel any positive SEO effect.

Cross-Linking Social Media Platforms
Hello!  GmaKelly here again wishing you a Great Day!
Tumblr media
Today we're going to learn about Cross-Linking Social Media Platforms.  ie: Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter, TikTok, LinkedIn, etc.  And how you can Make Money Online utilizing existing Social Media Accounts. Note:  You can use your Exisiting Social Media Accounts, or you can establish new "Business"  Accounts.  However a "new" account will not come with your established following with the Existing Account your already have access to. What is Cross-Posting Cross-posting is the process of taking a piece of content and posting it across multiple social media platforms at the same time. I've heard that there are people that do this manually, one account at a time.  I personally recommend you use a automated plug-in to post to all Social Media Platforms at the same time or at timed intervals, etc. It saves time and energy.  This type of automated plug-in will have automated templates that will format your post to the "rules" associated with each Social Media Platform.
Tumblr media
Some platforms allow you to embed links within the content and that doesn’t necessarily count towards any sort of character limit, however others, Twitter for instance, stick to 280-character limits including links. Another example is Instagram, they don’t allow clickable links to be put within descriptions but you can add them within profile bios. publer.io/blog/cross-posting/ I use a WordPress Plug-In, Blog2Social, but there are many available. Most have a "free" version.  I have recently linked my Facebook Account to Instagram, Twitter, TikTok and Pinterest.  Yes, you can do that.  The individual platforms have a relationships with each other, keeping your data fresh and in front of your Target Audience. Different people use different platforms.  There is no reason to believe that a person using Instagram also uses Twitter, for instance.  This spreads your Content across a broader audience and provides your Brand exposure. Scheduling Posts You can schedule your posts to post at scheduled times or intervals, or on certain days.  Being able to automate this mundane but very necessary piece of work is amazing.  When scheduling your posts, keep in  mind your Target Audience.  What time do they wake up, look at their phone for todays news?  When do they go on break at work?  What time do they get off?  Maybe they check their Social Media at night before bed.  When they are looking is when you need to be there. Most of the Platforms will have some type of data analysis to advise of you when, and maybe where your Post is being viewed, along with alot of other information that works to your advantage.  You might try this option, especially if, like me, you do your best work at night.  Who is going to see your glorious writing skills and beautiful words at 2am?  Well, I suppose, if your Target Audience is overworked, underpaid nightshift workers you might have something there.  But you get the idea.
Tumblr media
Take a minute to review each Platforms rules and guidelines on posting Affiliate links, the size of graphics, the number of words, etc. But then again a good WordPress Plug-in might solve all your problems.   You might try scheduling your Posts, run your posts for 30 days at Plan A times,  the next 30 days switch it up.  Find your best time.  That is probably where the Money is. Thank you for sharing your time with me today.  Best Wishes for a Super Great Day! GmaKelly Read the full article

Blog Post- Making a Website
Every artist needs a website as it is a central place for all information about your  practice, experience, and contact information. It is also free from the restrictions of social media so someone who is interested in your work doesn’t have to create an Instagram account or TikTok account just to view your work. All they need is a device that can access the internet.
Luckily, it is super easy to make a website now and you don’t need to know  any HTML as websites like Squarespace, Wix, and Wordpress all use UI design tools that do all the HTML for you.
I decided to use Squarespace as it is what I used to design our first year 2021 exhibition website when in person exhibitions were still a no go. I like the UI and the amount of templates they have available to make website building as easy as possible while still keeping the design interesting.
Tumblr media
I started with the NOVO template as it prioritised images on the homepage.
I then swapped out the placeholder images with photos of my own work, putting what I believe to be my most interesting projects at the top of the page so they are seen first.
Tumblr media
When hovering over the images the title of that section will appear over the top of the images. This is a clickable like that will take the user to a page that has more images of the work along with title, dimensions, materials, and a statement about the piece.
Tumblr media
For the contact page I added my email and phone number, plus a built in website contact form just incase someone doesn’t want to use those options.
Tumblr media
As a way to link people back to social media if they wish to follow me for updates or contact me there then they can click the icons and go straight to my other pages. The icons are on the header with the tabs and also added again to the contact page.

Can you imagine interacting with a floating hologram? 🤔 In the weeks leading up to the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, I received dozens of emails from exhibitors from around the world. 🌎🌍🌏 I read many, & in some cases connected with companies to learn more about their products & services. 🏎️🖨️📱 This year there was a record number of Japanese startups at CES. iMuzak & Catlog were among them. I zoomed with Misa Suzuki at iMuzak, 🖥️ who spoke on behalf of her CEO, Kazumi Sawamura. She explained iMuzak’s 3D projection interface which was inspired by Princess Leia’s hologram in Star Wars. 💫 Instead of touching a physical object, like a button, 🔘 their product, (a microlens), creates holographic images that float in front of a source image, like an elevator panel. Imagine touching a floating #3D image that responds! I wondered if there is a sensation when touching “air?” 👆 They’re working on integrating haptics 👂 so users will feel like they’re touching an object, kind of like smart phones that no longer have clickable buttons but make noises. In our “contactless” world, this seems like a timely concept. 😷 It’s found at: http://imuzak.co.jp/ DID YOU KNOW worldwide 🌐 there are 3x as many cats😺 as dogs? 🐕 In 2020, there were 9.64 million cats living in Japan. 🇯🇵 If you live in Japan, 🎌 Catlog is wearable health tech for cats🐈 that collects data on activities & can detect trends like weight loss or lethargy. I asked Momoka Naoi their purpose for being at CES? It helped them to understand US 🇺🇸 users and what kinds of needs they should consider if they choose to extend their reach here. It’s found at: https://rabo.cat/en/lp/ There were some eye-popping exhibits, like the BMW that changes colors. You can check out the “B-Roll” 🎞️ on my Wordpress post to view a couple of videos. Would you ever want to check out CES? 🎲 It’s honestly amazing. 👀 . Improving blog design – Blog layout tips for growth!
Tumblr media
So you’re working on your blog design and want to make sure you use the best practices to ensure success.
You’re ready for a change and you want your website to stand out from the crowd.
When people land on your website you envision them being taken back a little, thinking wow this is an awesome website” – without being too distracted to absorb your content.
It’s all possible!
You want your visitors to think “I need to come back to this website” because what you offer is so insanely good. You need to make sure your branding is strong, the site is easy to use and, naturally, you set things up so it’s easy for them to come back when they want more – since they may forget to without being prompted!
You need to understand the best practices of blog design.
What are the best practices of Blog Design?
But there are a few ingredients that go into the design recipe that you may not expect.
The outcome sure isn’t going to be exactly what you think it is!  It’s not just about the look, a lot of it has to do with technical factors, functionality, and transparency.
“Yes, A little “wow factor” eye candy / imagery is good for your blog, but too much is distracting. – Tweet this.
There’s a balance to everything, so below I’ve listed below the main elements your website needs to become its ultimate self. We’ll look at what it needs to be able to do so that people land on your website they feel welcome and get a little excited because they’re left with that outstanding first impression. They follow through with the actions you want them to take because of the flow and functionality is spot on.
No more foreplay, let’s get to it.
You can absorb this information in the video below, or keep scrolling for the written version!

Make your content effortless to find.
Tumblr media
Forget the bells and whistles, give the people what they want.
Remove the clutter and all of the mess. Keep your content above the fold. People are searching for entertainment, motivation or some kind of solution to a problem. So offer them what they want by putting your content right in front of their eyes.  Visitors shouldn’t be searching and scrolling to find the information they were promised.
If a visitor lands and can’t easily identify your content, they’ll think your website is too difficult to use and leave.
Look for the useless elements of your website and remove them. There should be almost nothing above your post except for your logo and navigation – with the exception of maybe some small advertisements or call to actions that don’t push the content too far down (if required).
Then you can you pump out content that is designed to convert and generate traffic without the obstacle of a bad website or blog design standing between your visitor and effective conversion. This is one of the best practices you can implement in your blog design.
Remember: good design delivers content, it doesn’t just surround it. Transparency is key.
Give it purpose, make it convert.
You need some kind of Call to Action on your posts and pages, here’s a good example from one of Robbie Richard’s Blog Posts about SEO Keyword Research Tools:
Tumblr media
A website without purpose is just words on a loose piece of paper.  You don’t know who wrote it, where you can get more, or what they offer. Sooner or later that piece of paper will get lost. – Tweet This
…gone!
Why type up numerous articles and posts just to have people read them with no follow-up action?
Your website has to serve a purpose.
Of course, if your purpose is simply to communicate and nothing else then that’s fine. But for most hard-working blogs and websites they are designed to gather email subscribers or make money by selling something.
Discover that purpose and, as mention in The Secret to an Awesome Website Design, set up a few “call to action” areas to direct people to after they read.
Make sure your page loads in under 3 seconds.
Tumblr media
Speed is important.  A website that takes more than 3 seconds to load is as good as non-existent to a large chunk of people surfing the internet.
What’s the point of content if people never actually get to your website because they get sick of waiting?
You need to make things lightweight, simplify and tone down the various elements of your blog design and focus on what’s important until you get that load time right down.
There are many ways to achieve a faster loading speed, here’s a definitive list of techniques you can use in WordPress.
Make Your Brand (and Yourself) Recognizable
Tumblr media
Do your best to stand out.
Good design is catchy and unique, it gives you an image that identifies and separates you from your competition whilst giving people an idea of what you do.
There are many aspects to a good brand, but it all starts with a good logo.  You can create a basic text logo yourself, or get one designed for you or you can try getting a professional Graphic Designer to do it for you.
But don’t stop at the logo, create a consistent brand to carry throughout your whole website, social media, and marketing in general.
For best practice, you should carry over certain styles, fonts, and colors over to your entire blog design for consistency.
I highly recommend making good use of colors for psychology and also to help convert visitors, I wrote a post covering that here. Combine these colors with the use of appropriate textures and images and you can create a sharp look that also sends a message about who you are.
Perhaps the most recognizable feature you can use is your face.
Put a photo of yourself or your website’s team up on your website. Try to consistently put more in your content (in a relevant way) so people will then get to know who you are and recognize you – that’s powerful.
Add a few ‘trust’ elements
Tumblr media
Nerd Fitness has excellent branding, showcasing both the brand design and the owner himself, Steve Kamb.
People can smell your bullshit…
…even if you’re not full of it!
A bad design that doesn’t follow certain trust guidelines gives people a bad feeling and they get away from your website.  So you need to follow the best trust practices in order to show them they can trust you!
First of all, make sure your design is crisp, clean and professional.
Hire a good designer or find a good WordPress theme that does the job, here are a few places you can get entire bundles or beautiful WordPress themes. That clean design combined with Brand recognition above is the bulk of what you need.
As mentioned in the last point, a photo of yourself or your team is powerful and is a terrific way to gain someone’s trust.  You’re saying to your visitors “this is my website, here I am and I have nothing to hide” when your face and name is beside your work.
Don’t hide behind your work, stand next to it. – Tweet this
The next thing is to avoid looking amateurish, once again a good theme or design is imperative, but also avoid text that is difficult to read (try 16pt or above), low-resolution images stretched to a size way to large that they become furry or pixelated, let alone stretched out of proportion.
Keep everything high quality and people will expect high quality!
Get some testimonials, positive comments and evidence of people enjoying what you offer.  It’s all about credibility, so if you’ve been featured on any major brands, pop their logo on your page also above it a line saying “as featured in”. If you have an article in the Huffington Post, use their logo!
Proper use of text formatting
Tumblr media
The first major thing – make sure your text is easy to read, clean-cut and not too small.  No fancy over-complicated fonts should be the focus of your page, as they are just an obstacle most users don’t want to jump over.
This also means your posts need to be broken up and scannable.
This means short 2 or 3 sentence paragraphs, clearly identifiable subheadings so people can scroll through and find exactly what they need fast!
Here’s a little more information about how to make that happen.
A clear and easy to find navigation
Backlinko is another example of effective blog design, and the Navigation is hard to miss whilst also focusing on 3 simple pages he wants to drive traffic to:
Tumblr media
People will be looking to see what else they can explore on your website after they finish reading your content. Quite often the ‘Home’ or ‘About’ pages are likely targets so you want a Navigation bar that is very easy to find and includes those pages.
‘Home’ and ‘About’ are where people look for a summary of what you offer, to see if they’re interested in exploring further.
Typically Navigation bars are above, below or beside the logo on your blog, above your content.  People expect to find these things there, so put it’s best practice for your blog to put them there. and that’s one less disappointing surprise for your visitors.
Social Media Sharing Buttons
Tumblr media
Well, you want your stuff shared right? You can’t really expect some people to go off and do it if it isn’t convenient.
Speaking of which, why not share this post on Twitter or Facebook? Thank you :)
Like that!
Obviously, the more shares you get the more people will see your content! With more shares comes more SEO traffic that you can expect to see as Google and other search engines will be paying close attention to your Social Media signals.
For this reason, I highly recommend installing something like SumoMe, it creates a nice app that allows you to install a simple but effective sharebar which pops up on the side of the browser, or elsewhere if the display is small (responsive, for use on a phone or tablet).
The other option is to create clickable share links (which I’ve come to prefer). Here’s a top tool to create a number of links all at one!
Email Opt-in Forms
Tumblr media
If you aren’t Email marketing, you are missing out!
Seriously, it’s the best way to deliver targeted repeat traffic, here’s why and here’s how you can start an email list / newsletter with ConvertKit.
You can be super aggressive. Add a form in your sidebar, under your content, in a pop-up, and a feature box on your homepage – which is all guns blazing, so it’s up to you.
You can also be less aggressive and choose one or two of those options, as you may turn people away if you get too aggressive with this practice.
I also recommend having some kind of enticement to get people to subscribe.  People don’t want spammy emails landing in their inbox so the chances of them signing up “just ‘cos” is very slim.
Offer something for free you’re confident they’ll want in return for their email address.
Responsive Design
Tumblr media
People will be viewing your website from different sized monitors, phones, tablets and in the future, who knows.
So you need a website that is flexible and will adapt to any screen size or shape.  This also means a fast loading time as different devices have different levels of internet speed.
Most themes these days come with responsive design, like many of these Theme Bundles.  Alternatively, you can design your own easily using a customizable, responsive theme.  Check out Divi if you’d like to take control over your blog design
Above all: Function.
Tumblr media
This is really the combination of everything above, and a chain is only as strong as it’s weakest link!
If your website doesn’t have good functionality, then it’s a sub-standard website that will be forgotten and entice many pushes of the dreaded back button.
This is why good design is very important, follow these blog design practices and get people to ‘test drive’ your website. Otherwise, you could be wasting a LOT of time.
So go over this list and see where you may be falling short, then if let me know how you go! Leave a comment below.

4 Ways to Optimize B2B Content for a Mobile-First Experience
Tumblr media
Most of us will admit (begrudgingly or not) that we are somewhat addicted to our phones. In fact, people spend nearly four hours per day scrolling, texting and interacting on the small screen. There is a huge shift in the way digital media is accessed and digital content is consumed — from laptops and desktops to mobile devices — yes, even in the B2B realm.
A report from BCG had some incredible findings on the influence that mobile marketing has in B2B:
70% of B2B customers have increased their mobile usage, particularly for searches and research.
60% have used their mobile device to help them make a purchasing decision for their business
Targeting customers with mobile-friendly content can speed up their purchase decision by 20% and shorten your sales cycle by 35 days on average.
And just in case you need one more reason, Google enabled mobile-first indexing by default for all new websites, on July 1. It had already started to transition existing websites to mobile-first, and you encounter problems getting your site indexed and ranked if it isn’t mobile-friendly.
B2B companies that fail to optimize their websites and content for mobile consumers are going to miss out on a lot of lead generation and conversion opportunities in the near future. Creating a truly mobile-first experience requires a whole lot more than just creating responsive websites.
Mobile-First Experience: Getting Started
Start with Small-Screen Friendly Blogs
Company blogs play an important role in the B2B customer journey with 71% of buyers stating this content helped them make a final purchasing decision. However, the way your target audience is consuming content on the whole is changing. People use mobile devices to access more than a fifth of all media content that they consume, according to an eMarketer survey.
B2B marketers need to be mindful of their content so it’s easy to read. The layout should be optimized and responsive based on the reader’s screen size (for example if they are using a small tablet versus a phone).
To adopt a truly mobile-first approach, content strategists and web designers must work together to determine how things should look on mobile first and then on a desktop. Mobile users still want all the information, so don’t arbitrarily cut out images, videos or even blocks of text. Instead, try to compress them for size and rearrange them in a good flow, considering the visual hierarchy. Elements like line and paragraph spacing, placement of visuals and ads, and clickable areas are important to take into consideration.
Further,
Determine where AMP pages will work best and adopt it early.
Consider using expandable sections if a post or resource is too long. They’re no longer bad for SEO.
Cut down the pop-ups encouraging subscription, chat, etc. – both in size and number.
Ensure all WordPress or other CMS plugins you use for the desktop version are working well.
Adopt Mobile SEO Strategies
According to a report from BrightEdge, search results varied vastly when queried from mobile devices – nearly half of the URLs in positions 1 to 20 ranked differently for the keywords they studied. Moreover, 35% of the first-page results turned out to be totally different.
Searches on mobile devices tend to be more question-based, particularly if the person is using a voice assistant like Siri. They’d be more likely to phrase their search as a question, such as “What time does TD Bank open?” or “Which CRM service has the highest rating?” These questions also clarify the intent of the searcher better.
It is also important to note that voice assistants will borrow answers from answer boxes or results that include rich snippets in the usual results – structured data helps Google determine the relevance of the content.
To optimize for mobile searches, content marketers should focus on long-tail keywords during their keyword research and narrow their focus accordingly to provide clear and concise answers to specific, contextual queries.
Focus on What Actually Fuels Conversions
The real secret to improving the mobile experience is simple: give your customers what they want, when they want. People tend to use their mobile phones for convenience; they don’t want to scroll through long, text-heavy webpages to find information or make a purchase.
Conversion objectives are going to vary quite drastically when you are working with a B2B audience over B2C. The buyer’s journey is far more complex and drawn out for B2B – you can nudge your leads toward conversions with small personalizations based on the nature of their previous visits by modifying pop-ups, push notifications, display ads or landing screen CTAs.
Some CMS platforms, such as HubSpot, and web builder tools such as Duda, can help you add dynamic content to both mobile and desktop versions based on the visitor’s contextual attributes, resulting in a personalized experience at every interaction with your brand.
By tracking specific accounts, your website can automatically highlight specific content or CTAs that make sense depending on how far along the buyer’s journey they are. For instance, you can use a call-scheduling widget that can be set to appear only to qualified leads who are ready to reach out to a salesperson.
Weigh Websites versus Apps versus PWA
While creating an app isn’t necessary for many B2B businesses (but imperative for SaaS and other digital verticals), it is a great way to instantly take customer experience and service options to the next level. This is particularly helpful for B2B companies that provide software services.
Another option is to create a Progressive Web App (PWA) that offers an app-like experience without the need for an actual app download. Forbes.com created a PWA for its mobile site as it saw that the majority of traffic was coming through these devices. Instead of looking like a shrunken version of the traditional website, the design is similar to that of an app, allowing customers to easily scroll through articles and resulting in a more pleasant UX.
Focus on maintaining a similar UX between your app and your website. Many times, companies try to cut corners and make their mobile versions less efficient and powerful, but ultimately, they end up losing customers as a result.
Take the restaurant booking service OpenTable (part of Booking.com), for instance. The desktop version allows users to switch between view screens to check on reservations and other important data. Users can also see a layout of the restaurant at all times. However, on the mobile app, users can’t see the current floor plan when they are trying to map out reservations. This drives a big spoke through the UX wheel.
It’s best to keep the look and feel of all digital versions similar so customers can get a consistent and congruent user experience no matter what device they are using.
Mobile-First, Always
There is no question B2B buyers are using mobile devices in seeking information and making decisions throughout the buying process. It makes sense for B2B marketers to adopt a mobile-first approach soon in order to stay ahead of the competition and offer the best possible experience to customers.
