Makeup has become a great distraction for me over the past weeks. It’s been almost therapeutic in the way it allows me to disconnect from some of the physical and mental stresses of my body, and just tap in to my creative side for awhile. And being able to listen to a good audiobook while playing with a new look makes it all the more comforting. For this eye look I just went where it took me. I tried a cut crease for the first time using some Ulta eye primer. The shadows were from my bh cosmetics ultimate matte palette and bh studio pro ultimate artistry palette. Also used nyx vivid brights eyeliner in halo and tried some magnetic lashes, which caused my black eyeliner to go a little wonky with having to use 3 coats of their magnetic liquid liner. In 2014 I was diagnosed with PTSD. I had no idea what Mental Health, Self-Care or Self-Love meant. After completing 12 weeks of therapy, I needed to find a way to continue routinely practising good MH . I quickly discovered a community of people on Instagram openly sharing their tips on managing the daily challenges life can present for people struggling with their MH. I remember one day I felt really low in spirit and knew a hot bath wouldn’t quite cut it. I found myself reaching for my makeup and feeling immediately more relaxed . It’s 30 mins of relaxation, not moving, looking at yourself, thinking, singing, being patient with yourself, learning something new… I found so much comfort in this moment that I never stopped. I posted that first image to my personal IG feed and used the hashtag #MakeupForMentalHealth .
