i fucking LOVE TIMEWARPED DARRAGH MACGUIRE YOU ARE MY MAIN MAN FOR HIS CONTENT BRO
hey if you want some moss lore I actually thought it WAS Darragh Macguire alive when i ran into Malcolm MacIntosh the GINGER scientist in Annesberg. I thought it was going to be a whole tragedy that he was believed dead and thought Sean was dead only to be elated to hear Arthur/John knew his son, which meant his son survived that awful night in Boston, only to be told he had been killed mere months earlier.
It would've been hilariously tragic if they said they'd heard all about Darragh from Sean and then Darragh heartbrokenly asked what his son has said/if his son had remembered him and they couldn't answer because they'd always told Sean to shut up on the da stuff.

i find myself noticing product placements tonight as well. dodgson's dummy can is barbasol. nedry drinks jolt. tim is wearing nikes. the control room is full of macintosh quadra 700s. the jeeps are a gimme, of course.
i'm not really a watch guy, but i'm noticing all of those, too, and the other accessories, like sattler's sapphire earrings and malcolm's turquoise necklace and ring. do we think interviews with the costumers still exist? do we think they ever did?

Why does everyone on X (I mean the literary feeds) seem to be reading Miss MacIntosh, My Darling? We'll soon get memes of Trump holding up a copy in the Oval Office. Have you read it? If so, is it really that big a deal?
Publishers large and small now "synergize" with online cliques and influential writers and critics to support certain books, both new and reissued. And it's an exciting project for all involved to get a book they truly believe in into the canon, if they can; we all want to be the Malcolm Cowley for some forgotten Faulkner. I'm not claiming there's any cynicism at work here, nor at this point can I claim to stand above this process either, given my 6000 words this week on Bruce Wagner as major novelist.
I haven't read Miss MacIntosh, though, and the people supporting it are not people I tend to think of as belonging to my aesthetic camp. The novel sounds a bit trying, to be honest—it's a shame Joyce's experiment with Ulysses worked so well, because it convinced a lot of other people to attempt a similar thing!—though I am also open to the idea that it's as good as its champions say. The excerpts I've read online are somewhere between exciting and unreadable: a dithyrambic style you couldn't imagine tolerating 1000 pages of.

Not everyone can say they’ve been to the Big Apple, but  Morag MacIntosh, a 35 year-old ciswoman has lived in Upper East Side, Manhattan for five years. This is the city of dreams and she knows it, because they came to NYC to be Editor-in-chief at The New York Times. Living in the city means they meet all kinds of people, but everyone always seems to think they look like Erin Richards. They even got away with free cab fare once because of it!
BIRTHNAME: Morag MacIntosh
ALIAS: Mo
DOB: April 1st 1986 (35)
ORIGIN: Edinburgh, Scotland
RESIDENCE: Upper East Side, Manhattan
OCCUPATION: Editor-in-chief at The New York Times
FAMILY: Barnabus MacIntosh (father, 70)
Greer MacIntosh (mother, 65)
Aisling MacIntosh (sister, 45)
Malcolm MacIntosh (brother, 35)
Mhairi MacIntosh (sister, 27)
POSITIVE TRAITS: resilient, determined, intuitive
NEGATIVE TRAITS: manipulative, blunt, narcissistic
FAVOURITE SONG: Will claim it’s Mozart’s Exsultate, jubilate, K. 165 but in reality it’s Woman by Kesha
A NOTE ON THE EDITOR
tw: murder, alcoholism
ambition and power have always been pillars that held the macintosh family above their peers. from the moment she was born, morag was conditioned for greatness.
although the firstborn twin, that ceased to mean anything until she reached her teenage years. her father was a traditional man, upset his eldest child wasn't a boy and pinning a great deal of hope on morag's brother from the moment he was born. as they grew, it started to become apparent that his son had not inherited the aggressively masculine thirst for ambition like his father. malcolm often preferred spending his time in creative pursuits. his short-lived sporting career wasn't even enough to appease him.
morag became the compromise. from a young age it was clear that she was much closer aligned with what her father expected in her brother. she knew how to charm a room and talk her way out of anything. she hated other kids, but often used them to get exactly what she wanted. although the family business was law, there was certain deals that were best kept behind closed doors. clients that her father shouldn't have been offering advice to that she would soften up with a smile and a story before they spoke to him. she wasn't in on the ploy, but she learned that appealing to people's better nature earned her what she wanted. whether that was extra pocket money or getting to stay up past her bed time or the chance to fire the nanny, it didn't matter. manipulation was a fine art and she intended to perfect it.
as she grew up, the scams became more fun. as she understood what these kind of men wanted, she learned the true power that her smile and a few well-worded questions. that wasn't to say her relationship with her father was much better than her siblings - he was a temperamental man that didn't like people and liked scotch just a little too much -  but it was still better.
when she and her brother were twelve years old, they were sent to boarding school in switzerland. morag hated it immediately. it wasn't the routine or the actual education - she was smart, she liked the challenge - but rather it was the other people. having to share a room with two other girls was the greatest strife of her life... which said a lot about the kind of life she was used to.
it was towards the end of her schooling that the cracks begin to show. her sister was an attorney with a family of her own, on track to continue doing exactly what was expected of her, but the mere thought turned mo's stomach. she had never liked the thought of doing something she wasn't passionate about for the rest of her life. especially putting in so much genuine hard work for little to no reward. her long-desired ballet career had fizzled out when her father suddenly decided she should no longer get lessons whilst he was in one of his moods. what she had always liked doing... was solving mysteries. or rather, creating mysteries and then pretending to solve them for attention.
it was only natural that that would manifest into a career in journalism, right?
everybody loves a well-written lie.
journalistic integrity was never her goal. after completing her undergraduate degree in paris, she moved on to columbia university to broaden her portfolio. all the while, she wrote articles on a broad spectrum of topics. however, fashion and crime were her greatest interests. the real breakthrough came after the murder of a renowned designer that was written off as natural causes. mo didn't believe it, the pieces didn't add up. and thus was born the now infamous article and glorious piece of investigative journalism - how to design your own death. the relatively poor title choice would haunt her for the rest of her career, but it was something that earned her enough renown to fly through her internship years and gain a steady footing in the world of journalism.

Once Upon A Time Rewatch: 5x12 Souls of the Departed
Tumblr media
Currently reading (well, listening) to The School for Good and Evil Series. It’s so good! It’s basically Wicked the Musical and has a fairy tale element like OUAT. Can’t recommend enough!
I had the weirdest dream last night that Ouat’s Gothel was hiding behind my bed at my old house trying to scare me. She stayed up all night with some blankets, waiting to pounce. Also, she was naked. Jesus Christ, wtf is wrong with my dreams?! I do not see Gothel in that way at all!! I was so freaking disturbed! @fairytalepsuedonym this is all your fault for putting that dirty hippie witch bitch on my mind lol xD! /jk
Also guys, we’re getting Disney+ today. I’m so excited! Let me know if anyone has any recommendations.
And you know what I just thought of? It looked like they were implying that Merida and Lord Macintosh were gonna be a thing (possibly? I think it’s up for interpretation) but he outright shot an arrow at one of her brothers and wanted the others dead too. Merida would never! Her brothers mean too much to her to forgive such a thing. Also, she gives me gay vibes. I don’t make the rules. Alistair makes all the rules.
Back to the rewatch.
Oh yeah! This is the 100th episode! The compilation for 100 episodes was so freaking epic!
Neal! Is that really him though?
She’s staring at his lips lol!
Omg! Emma would have come back for Neal if she could. That means she believes they were true love, and she could have split her heart with him, right?
So, he appeared to her?
Omg! The way Emma is stroking his face and is staring at him, you’d never know she was working on saving her boyfriend lol.
You know what would have been so much better? If the underworld was perpetually dark and foggy (within reason) like the sims 4 Forgotten Hollow. That would have looked so much cooler!
Here comes the red filter. As a gifmaker and even as a viewer I wanna scream every time I see it but at least it’s not the Dark Swan arc.
I said it before and I’ll say it again: they should have let Regina’s and maybe even Rumple’s victims confront them! That would have been interesting to watch play out. I know we got Regina’s dad and Peter Pan but give me a family of Regina’s slaughtered villagers. What would their reaction be to seeing her?
Eww. I hate the way she dips her finger in that pie.
Guys. It doesn’t matter that you have Regina surrounded, she has pyrokinesis and telekinesis! Y’all are screwed! She blew the flames out? She had the advantage! I’m glad she didn’t hurt them of course, but as someone writing a book that consists of characters with magic abilities, you’ve gotta know when a powerful character has the advantage and when to use it. Where was Snow dodging a fireball as one of her arrows flies at Regina and it pauses in mid air only to sore back at Snowing and their friends, but they manage to outsmart her somehow?
Woah. This is the boldest Henry Sr. has ever been. He’s really trying to help Regina out here.
Cora!! My love!! I missed you!!
I love the Blind Witch. Does she have a name? I enjoyed her in ‘Regina Rising.’ I remember she’s quite a bit older than Regina
The Blind Witch: “What can I get you? Do you like gingerbread or children?” Omg Snow’s like “what the actual f**k??”
James, why are you like this?? Get off her, dude.
Those key rings are cool.
Why the hell didn’t Emma just tell Henry she saw his dad? I can think of absolutely no reason why she would keep that from him.
Lately all Robin has done is make random comments pointing out the obvious. “It’s uncanny. It’s so similar yet so off.” Yes, Robin we established that 9 minutes ago. His next line will be, “Goodness, is that a tree over there?” or “Regina, you were the Evil Queen”, mark my words. Where has his personality gone? I was never a big fan but at least he was kinda arrogant and cheeky before, at least in season 2 and 3. Now he’s just a dude that points on the ground and tells you there’s a stone. And they have the chemistry of a banana and a cheese cracker.
“Her puny army of sweaty little child beasts.”
Are those black roses?
I may be wrong but wasn’t Cora trying to get Regina to stop hunting Snow White and find true love instead in 4x20 or am I making things up? And I wonder if this is before or after she appeared in 4x20.
I just love Cora so much.
Is that how she got to the EF in 4x20? Through a looking glass?
The fact that she could so easily cross realms suggests that she willingly gave Regina her space. Which is something! But it feels like she’d have ulterior motives for that. Also Jefferson and Rumple would be screaming if they knew it was that easy to cross realms.
Regina: “are you threatening me?” Cora: “No. Of course not, never.” But you literally are though.
Peter Pan! He was under-utilised this season. Come on! They could have done so much with him! I’m glad at least Cora and Cruella got decent screen time.
Imagine watching OUAT for the first time with this episode and you see this full-grown man refer to a teenage boy as is father. I would be so confused lol.
I wonder if Rumple / Rumple’s father hail from Dunbroch originally. You know, with the Scottish accent. I’m kinda thinking about headcanoning that now. At least, I think Malcolm had a Scottish accent?
That got me! I forgot Cora had glamoured into Henry Sr.! I thought Cora had shapeshifted into Snow to trick Henry.
Oh, so Henry Sr. contacting her was the reason Cora could walk through the looking glass. If only someone had contacted Jefferson. And I’ve just remembered that in 4x20, she said a white rabbit brought her to the EF.
Killian looks creepy as hell here!
Lol Cora, you let Henry wrap the heart? What did you expect to happen!
Why did Regina need Snow’s heart to kill her? She could have easily killed her without even touching her.
What the hell does Snow think is in there? She looks terrified.
Archie, wtf were you doing between Snow’s titties?! And what were you doing with a match? Gonna set some titties on fire xD? I bet she could never look at him the same again.
He doesn’t want Regina to kill Snow because he thinks it will make her dark forever? What about all the other people she’s killed?! That makes no sense!
Okay, given that Grace didn’t seem to physically age much between the flashbacks in 1x17 and the present day in 1x17, this probably happened after the flashback’s events in 4x20.
According to wiki, Regina’s birthday is February 1st. I’m only learning this now.
I’ve never seen Henry Sr. so bold and Adam end to help Regina.
Okay, so Regina shrunk Henry with her magic but she needed a mushroom to return him to his normal size?
Don’t lock him in that box omg!!
Cora: “when are you gonna get it in that thick head...” she’s so casually abusive.
Random thought but why is Henry’s surname Mills? It just seems like it’d be Cora’s surname. Maybe he took hers on but that seems strange for a Prince to do.
Cora, don’t!
Henry’s alright!
Aww. Henry got to meet his 3rd Grandpa! He’s so happy she named him after him.
I’m tearing up.
“Remember who you are, Regina.”
Henry, honey, you need to go home.
Is that Persephone?
Oh my God! I’m so excited for the Cora and Zelena stuff!! By far my favourite thing of the season! To hear Cora say Zelena’s name- the fact she knows her name- I’d waited for so long for this! It left open so many questions!
And Hades infuriated with Cora on the love of his life Zelena’s behalf!! He loved her so much and would do anything for her. I don’t ship it as much as I initially did because of how it ended but that man freaking loved and cherished Zelena. He wanted everything for her. She desperately needed that and it was an emotional experience to see her get it.
That’s like her worst nightmare, being a peasant again.
I can’t with the flame hair.
I forgot this episode was pretty good. I didn’t remember liking it but Cora saved it for me. I forgot she was in it because I have probably watch season 5 the least as I try to avoid it lol.

I just met Margret and omg... genderfluid character. I do realize how some parts to her are written super transphobically, but I've decided she's gf
I also love miss margaret! ✨ I rlly wish she wasn’t a victim of such transphobic writing but the character herself is so 💗💗💗💗

Monday 1st May 2023 - What technical and artistic considerations are involved in creating effective live visual graphics for concerts?
The History of the VJ
VJ: Audio-visual art + VJ Culture - Michael Faulkner
The term VJ was first used at the end of the 1970’s in the New York club Peppermint Lounge (pg 14)
VJing is evolving increasingly towards the visual and performance arts, with live audio-visual performances, interactive audio-visual installations, and so on. (pg 14)
VJing actually came into existence with the rise of electronic music at the end of the 1970s, and broke through at the beginning of the 1980s with house music. (pg 14)
Because of the absence of a stage act there was a demand for a new visual experience. VJing therefore came into existence purely on a pragmatic basis. it arose from a need and not from some conscious development within the arts. (pg 14)
As far back as the 1960s and ‘70s, this phenomenon was on the rise through people like Malcolm Legrice and Peter Vidal in a crossover of experimental cinema, visual and performance arts. They called it Expanded Cinema. (pg 14)
Starting from post-Marxist idealism, they introduced performances with film projectors aimed at multiple and sometimes even moving screens. All their hopes were put into salvation through audio-visual media. (pg 14)
Strange multi-sensory aspect (pg 15)
The experience is composed in an inextricable way out of different separate particles: the DJ spins records, the VJ triggers loops and someone else manipulates the strobe light, mostly without any form of pre-arrangement. (pg 15)
In an improvised way, the VJ mixes motion graphics with found footage and other materials for live imagery, often with two artists behind the desk… its a multi-media approach (pg 15)
One of the biggest influences on early VJing: the house scene was flooded with drugs. (pg 15)
MDMA, with its end product ecstasy, like the hallucinogenic LSD [although to a much lesser extent], causes an affect similar to symptoms experienced by people who suffer from synaesthesia (pg 15)
The clinical description of synaesthesia is ‘a neurological mixing of senses’. People who suffer from synaesthesia can be, for example, capable of hearing colours or seeing music. (pg 15)
VJing at house parties reproduces this experience. Whereas ecstasy does create a ‘spiritual’ symbiosis of sensation, it doesn’t evoke many concrete visual hallucinations compared to LSD. (pg 15)
The rise of the MIDI protocol has allowed the linking of images to music in a relatively easy way. (pg 19)
The most wondrous element is that the computer itself has become the most important form of expression through computer graphics. (pg 19)
The Graphical User Interface [GUI] - first introduced in 1984 by Apple Macintosh - was a sign of this importance. (pg 19)
Brought along by the digital era: hacked tools and the rise of open-source software opened artistic production tools to everyone. (pg 19)

So…Jurassic Park is on Netflix and I haven't watched it in years.  Buckle up as I liveblog for you, the original and still champion:
JURASSIC PARK!
Tumblr media
I always forget about this beginning bit with the dinosaur in the box.
I'm very confused about what version of "spared no expense" involves putting a dinosaur on a forklift. Like, they couldn't get a crane and just drop it into the cage from above?
"The underwriters feel that the accident has raised some very serious safety questions about the park."  Uh, yeah, mister insurance dude.  They're using forklifts to move dinosaurs.  I feel like those are valid concerns.
Wow. Congratulations on the amber-mining foreman to make paleontological excavation sound vaguely sinister there.
Sam Neill!  Hooray!
Who's the radar guy?  "Christopher John Fields."  Huh.  Oh! That's Billy Brennan from the third movie.  Played by a different actor.
Dr. Allen Grant, everyone.  Giving nightmares to children since 1993.
Tumblr media
For the record, I'm kinda on Dr. Grant's side with respect to kids.  I'm very happy for other people to have them, but I'm not especially attached to the idea of having my own.
I understand the movie needed someone to make things go wrong.  But I really don't understand why they needed to make Nedry so gross. Every scene he's in is just disgusting.  Which is really unnecessary.
Ian Malcolm is basically the GrandMaster from Thor: Ragnorok in an earlier incarnation.  With the exception that Malcolm does actually care if other people suffer, albeit in an abstract way.  Personality-wise, though?  Dead identical.
I do like that they're basically letting the music carry this scene. One of the only John Williams scores that has genuinely unique musical thoughts in it.
youtube
Oh yeah.  There's dinosaurs.  Big as very big life.
Woo, that's a good shot by that lake.
"Don't you mean 'extinct?'"  I don't like Dr. Malcolm.  He's a jerk.
My dad's over here complaining that you can't clone people by having them randomly step out from behind each other on a movie screen and be exact duplicates.  Which is hard to argue with, I admit.
This incredibly fake southern accent in the explainer movie is driving me bananas.
"Are these characters auto…erotica?"  I don't want to know about your weird kinks, lawyer guy!
"We control their chromosomes, it's really not that difficult!" Yeah, just a simple matter of genetic engineering.
I'm having a very hard time with BD Wong not being the SVU psychologist here.
Why is the cow a puppet? Couldn't they afford to borrow a live cow?  It's not like it was actually going to be eaten by a dinosaur.
Malcolm is a jerk, but he makes a lot of valid points here.
Samuel L Jackson with hair!
Tumblr media
The gate aesthetic is very 1990s.
Tumblr media
The dilophasaurus description is basically Komodo Dragons.  Hate those things.
Tumblr media
They're all so excited about this miserable triceratops.  That poor thing looks very, very unhappy to exist at all.
Malcolm looking so distressed about dinosaur droppings.  Nobody ever said biology was neat and clean.
Although, that is a lot of poop. That's more than that triceratops' weight in poop!  How on earth did it poop that much?
All these lovingly close-up shots of vintage Macintosh tech.
Oh, man the water cups.  Classic.
Tumblr media
This T-Rex attacks the cars scene is way more intense than I remember. Yikes.
Malcolm getting the T-Rex's attention so that Grant can get the kids away is…legit.  I hate him slightly less.
And Nedry is dead.  Good riddance.
"The thing about climbing is, you never look down."  I have never understood this.  How are you meant to climb down without looking where you put your feet?
"Must go faster!"  And Ellie's just in the passenger seat screaming.
I kind of love how basically all the merchandise in the gift shop is stuff you can buy IRL.  They marketed the crap out of this film.
This is a very intense debate these guys are having about whether the computers will come online again after a hard reset.  I didn't even buy that in the 90s.  Of course, it's gonna work.  You always turn it off and back on again.
Oh my gosh, Tim is such a gruesome kid.
Tumblr media
You tell 'em, Ellie.
Tumblr media
Muldoon is really addicted to hunting.  Send off your buddy while being stalked by the highly lethal predators.  Great plan.
I learned a good trick with electric fences to tell if they're on.  Get a long stick with some green in it.  Hold the back end and put the far end directly on the fence.  Slowly slide the stick forward.  The stick is not a conductor, but the water in it is. If the fence is turned on, you'll feel slight tingles, but not the full charge.
That is a well-placed palm leaf when the velociraptor eats Muldoon.
"Unless they figured out how to open doors."  Well, anybody can open the handle doors!  Dogs can figure that one out.
So, this is the weirdest *NIX GUI I've ever seen.
Allan Grant indulges his lifelong dream of kicking a dinosaur in the face!
And the T-Rex rescues them from the velociraptor!  Whoo-hoo!
Tumblr media
"After careful consideration I've decided not to endorse your park."  Dr. Allan Grant, OUT.

@arianagrande: my heart is broken. i know it'll heal with time, but it still hurts. there will always be a place in my heart for you. thank you for being in my life when you were and when i needed you. i'll never stop loving, caring, and praying for you and the mccormick family. when you see my gramps, remind him that your name is malcolm, not macintosh. he always thought you were named after the computer brand. rest in paradise. love, ari & the babies.
