Guns N' Roses - Sweet Child o' Mine

The "Sweet Child o' Mine" video depicts the band rehearsing in the Mendiola's Ballroom at Huntington Park, surrounded by crew members. All of the band members' girlfriends at the time were shown in the clip: Rose's girlfriend Erin Everly, whose father was Don Everly of The Everly Brothers; McKagan's girlfriend Mandy Brix, from the all-female rock band the Lame Flames; Stradlin's girlfriend Angela Nicoletti; Adler's girlfriend Cheryl Swiderski; and Slash's girlfriend Sally McLaughlin. Stradlin's dog was also featured. The video was successful on MTV, and helped launch the song to success on mainstream radio.

To make "Sweet Child o' Mine" more marketable to MTV and radio stations, the song was edited down from 5:56 to 4:13, for the radio edit/remix, with much of Slash's guitar solo removed. This drew the ire of the band, including Rose, who commented on it in a 1989 interview with Rolling Stone: "I hate the edit of 'Sweet Child O' Mine.' Radio stations said, 'Well, your vocals aren't cut.' My favorite part of the song is Slash's slow solo; it's the heaviest part for me. There's no reason for it to be missing except to create more space for commercials, so the radio-station owners can get more advertising dollars. When you get the chopped version of 'Paradise City' or half of 'Sweet Child' and 'Patience' cut, you're getting screwed."

Tambah aneh saja cara orang menikmati makanan. Seperti yang satu ini, seorang pria menikmati makanan di dalam kloset toilet. Di dalam toilet itu juga terdapat tisu kering.

Tak disangka, pria dalam video yang beredar dalam Facebook Brix Villages Cadiamte Official itu mulai menata makanannya di atas kloset duduk tersebut. Ia meletakkan spaghetti di lingkaran kloset duduk bersama dengan udang, sayur, dan bumbunya. Kemudian ia pun mulai menikmati makanan yang ada di depannya.

Video yang diunggah selama enam menit itu diberi keterangan ‘Makan Makanan di Kamar Mandi. Bukan langsung “makan di kloset” seperti yang tampak dalam video.

Apalagi porsi spaghetti yang dimakan pria itu cukup banyak. Dan, selang beberapa menit menyantap makanan di depannya sambil duduk di lantai, dia seperti memendam rasa tidak puas.

Rupanya pria itu masih kurang merasakan kelezatan dari spaghettinya. Dia pun menambahkan bumbu spaghetti itu ke dalam bundaran kloset tanpa rasa ragu dan jijik.

Sambil menggunakan tangan, mi dan bumbu itu  diambil dari kloset. Sesekali, ia mengambil sayur dicampuri dengan bumbu tersebut.

Udang juga dicocol dengan bumbu itu. Namun, karena kebanyakan, ia pun mengurangi bumbu itu dengan memoleskannya di bagian penutup kloset.

Tidak di sangka-sangka, bumbu yang ada di atas kloset pun dijilat olehnya. Dan ia pun sangat menikmati makanan spaghetti tersebut.

Tidak disebutkan siapa pria tersebut. Juga tidak ada keterangan di mana tempat dia makan di kloset itu.

Kontan, aksi pria tersebut menuai banyak komentar dari warganet. Misalnya dari Persr Navarro.  “Bahkan jika makanannya enak, saya tidak bisa memakannya!  menjijikkan, maaf,” ucapnya.

Bahkan, NhoNho Reyes mengecam aksi pria itu dengan mengatakan kehilangan rasa hormat kepada berkah Tuhan. “Konsep yang gila. Ini masih toilet yang kami gunakan untuk melakukan hal-hal alami kami. Apakah kita sudah kehilangan rasa hormat terhadap berkah Tuhan? Makanan kita?” ujarnya.

“Hanya untuk mengawasinya makan, aku sudah kehilangan nafsu makan,” kata Haida Pinto.

“Maaf kalian ketinggalan mengerti tentang apa itu kamar mandi dan toilet. Dia tidak makan di kamar mandi, dia makan di toilet, ya toilet orang bukan kamar mandi,” lontar Jm Jm.

“Apa yang dia lakukan? Siapa yang akan percaya hal palsu ini. Tidak ada yang akan melakukan di dalam toilet. Seperti kita semua tahu kondisi toilet apakah itu toilet mewah atau biasa. Tidak pernah percaya,” ucap Walker Pink.

일단 백그라운드 음악 켜시고…. ^^

요즘 공부때문에 논문 읽는거랑 컴퓨터로 글쓰는게 하루 종일 하는 일입니다. 제가 사는 동네는 미국에서도 좀 북쪽이라 봄기운이 느껴진지 얼마 안됩니다. 그러니 겨우내 산책도 못하고 집이나 학교 도서관에 있었죠. 그러다 보니 요즘 하는 취미생활은 유투브로 미국 토크쇼를 보거나 넷플릭스로 드라마나 영화를 찾아보는 겁니다. 뭐 영어공부도 되니 좋은 취미라고 생각합니다.

오늘은 넷플릭스로 음악 관련 자료를 찾다가 건스 앤 로지스(Guns N’ Roses)와 벨벳 리볼버(Velvet Revolver)로 록음악의 전설을 만들어온 베이시스트 더프 멕케이건(Duff McKagan)의 삶에 대한 다큐멘터리 – It’s So Easy and Other Lies를 봤습니다. 2015년에 나온 다큐이니 최근 자료입니다만 2016년의 건스의 재결합에 대해서는 당연히 안나옵니다. 저는 벨벳 리볼버의 팬은 아닙니다만 젊을때는 건스의 광팬이었죠. (70년대 생중 건스를 싫어하는 사람은 별로 없을겁니다만….)

영화의 제목인 It’s so easy는 데뷔 앨범에 있는 노래 이름입니다. 가사 내용은 잘나가는 록커로서의 삶이 쉽다는 허세입니다만…. 여기서는 바로 뒤에 다른 거짓말들과 연결시켰으니 사실은 그게 거짓말이라는 거고 록커로서의 고단한 삶에 대한 이 다큐의 주제와도 딱 맞는 제목입니다.

어떻게 시애틀 출신 소년이 펑크에 빠져 밴드를 만들다가 고등학교를 중퇴하고 19살에 더 큰 꿈을 찾아 LA로 떠나고 그곳에서 건스의 다른 멤버에 합류하게 되는지, 밴드안에서의 거대한 성공과 알콜과 마약에 중독되어 삶이 망가진 이야기, 어떻게 그 중독에서 벗어나 결혼하고 서른이 넘은 나이에 대학에 입학하여 열정적으로 공부하고 다시 약에 손댔다가 완전히 극복한 이야기 등이 나옵니다. 더프가 다큐에서 말하는 것을 들으면 목소리도 좋고 차분하게 말을 잘하는게 똑똑하다는 느낌을 주는데 학교 중퇴 전에도 학교에서 우등생이었다네요. 어린 나이에 음악을 전업으로 하려고 때려치고 LA로 무작정 갔다니 대단합니다만… 다큐에는 안나오지만 2012년에 모교인 고등학교에서 졸업식 축사를 하고 우등상을 받았답니다. 뭐 그 학교 출신중 가장 성공한 인물중 하나일테죠…

서른 나이에 걸린 췌장염이 성숙한 어른이 되는 인생의 가장 큰 전환점이었던 것 같습니다. 더프는 20대에 Mandy Brix, Linda Johnson와 결혼했다가 이혼을 했습니다만 병을 극복하고 만난 모델 Susan Holmes과 1999년 결혼하여 딸 둘을 낳고 20년 가까이 잘 살고 있습니다.

젊은 날의 큰 성공후 술과 마약 등 방탕한 삶으로 망가져버리는 스타들이 많은데 더프는 술과 마약으로 췌장이 완전히 망가지는 절망적 상황에서 성공적으로 빠져나와 아직도 록커로서 건재한 멋진 삶을 살고 있네요. 젊을때도 외모가 모델이었는데 지금 나이든 모습도 정말 멋집니다. 도장에서 무술을 배우고 산악자전거를 하면서 해소한 것 같습니다.

이 다큐멘터리는 공연의 형식으로 만들어졌는데 뒤에서 어쿠스틱 연주로 건스와 벨벳의 명곡들을 잔잔히 연주하고 더프가 자신의 자서전중 골자를 관객들에게 읽어주는 형식입니다. 그리고 여기에 더프 본인과 더프의 가족과 친구들 그리고 슬래쉬(Slash), 맷 소럼(Matt Sorum), 니키 식스(Nikki Sixx) 등이 출연해서 그의 삶에 대해 이야기를 들려줍니다.

건스와 벨벳의 팬이라면 추천드립니다. 음악을 떠나 삶의 투쟁에서 승리한 한 인간의 멋진 삶을 발견할 수 있습니다.

최근의 더프의 모습. 64년생이라 쉰을 훌쩍 넘겼네요. 성숙한 인간으로서의 눈빛이 느껴집니다.

The Lame Flames were part of the '80s Sunset Strip scene. They were friends with Guns N' Roses before GnR became famous and the lead singer, Mandy Brix, was married to Duff McKagan in 1988. I've been dying to hear what they sound like but no songs or videos are available online that I know of.
