Your body pressed down into the plush mattress as you reveled in the comfort and security of being home. Your mind replayed the image of your mom snatching the door open, the two of you hugging tightly, rocking side to side. You had spent the past week trying to survive final exams and warding off the many questions of, “What’s wrong, baby girl?” The woman who gave you life knew you all too well. Sensing that her youngest baby was struggling, her attempts to get you to open up over the phone went unanswered. With the semester complete, being home didn’t leave much space to dodge the knowing gaze in her eyes.
That master’s degree will probably be a waste of time.
The moment you pulled away from the hug, she cupped your chin, and your poker face cracked as the tears cascaded down your cheeks. Two hours later, you filled her in on everything from the stress of school, financial aid, working doubles, and the fresh crack in your heart that was taking its sweet-ass time to heal. All of which had only taken about forty minutes to stutter out. The talk and her comfort had left you wiped out, and just like any amazing mother would do, she sent you to your room for a nap and got to work on preparing comfort food.
You considered dozing off for a bit more rest, but your bedroom door flew open, bouncing off the corner of your vanity. Your eyes narrowed to mere slits as you started to curse your oldest brother out. His hand raising halted the verbal reprimand.
“Alena’s big-headed ass is here to see ya mean ass,” he snarked about the woman who would eventually become his wife.
These two bitches are so in love. It’s sickening. The attraction is so annoyingly obvious. Shit makes me sick to my stomach.
Before you could tell him you didn’t want company, she was already in the doorframe. “Uh-uh, bitch you are not about to dodge me for another two weeks.” With those words said, you had no choice but to give her a rundown of what had transpired. Not only had she forced you to divulge every last detail while the two of you hugged and cried together. She also took it upon herself to wiggle you into your best freakum dress and head out for a girl’s night.
Being the baby and the only girl in your family made for very over-the-top protective parents. The moment your father saw your attire, he wouldn’t let up. He was hell-bent on forcing your brothers to chaperone.
It wasn’t a horrible idea.  Only you didn’t like your independence challenged. Luckily, the older siblings were pretty chill, so long as no one was overly aggressive. They had taught you how to handle shit for yourself at a young age. You spent the first half hour in the club pouting and ready to go home to wallow in self-misery.
“Hoe! If you don’t fix your face, scaring off every good-looking man in this club!”
“They’ll be alright, so long as they keep their distance. In case you didn’t get the memo after our long talk. Men make my ass itch,” you growled, kissing your teeth.
“Whateva, you and that stank attitude can have a good time together,” she sassed, throwing up a hand and walking away from the bar.”
“Where are you going? Alena!”
“I’ll be back, damn! Let me go on and annoy them, fine-ass brothers of yours. Be nice, and don’t bite nobody head off, sourpuss.”
“Always thirsting after my blood, just triflin’.”
With the flick of a middle finger, she sauntered over to their section. You could see the irritation rolling off them as she seated herself in the middle. The arguing started seconds later. Your eye twitched at the sight. Swinging the barstool back toward the liquor, you were about to pass the time scrolling through social media. Instead, a set of bronzed-colored, muscular digits came into view. They gently pressed your phone to the bar as the matching digits slid another lemon drop into view. Your eyes danced along those muscular fingers, trailing upward until they landed on one of the sexiest faces you’d ever witnessed. If any other man would’ve done this, he would’ve been set straight expeditiously. In this instance, ole boy was just too damn fine, and it left you on mute. The corners of his mouth lifted into a handsome smirk.
The stranger turned his barstool to get closer. One hand rested on the bar while the other cradled the back of your seat. His eyes roamed over your body, lip tucking between his teeth, matching you stare for stare. He chuckled when he noticed your quirked eyebrow.
“I don’t mean to intrude on ya evening, but I figured you could use another drink.”
“Is that so?”
“Couldn’t help but overhear your conversation with your friend. I’m tryin’ to  figure out why these men got your fine ass itching out here.”
Shit, he heard that? Floor, open up and swallow me. That’s so damn embarrassing.
As if reading your thoughts, he continued, “Nothing to be embarrassed about, mama. There’s a lot of boys running around here pretending to be men. Who was crazy enough to fumble you? He gotta be the dumbest man on earth.”
As if on cue, said fumbler’s name popped up on your caller ID. With a swipe of a finger, the phone went silent. You turned back to your new admirer. He had signaled for another round of drinks.
“Either you’re a big spender, or the bartender is your connect,” you teased.
“Connect is one way of putting it. This my spot, darlin’.”
He chuckled as you damn near choked on your drink.
“I’m sorry. Tend to put my foot in my mouth.”
“You good. I like a woman who’s not afraid to speak her mind. Dealing with me, you go to say it with your chest.”
“Oh, so you plan to be around me beyond tonight?”
“Around, underneath, on top. We locked in, mama,” he insisted, licking his lips.
“I don’t even know your name, fool,” you cackled at his cockiness.
“Name’s Rio, but you can call me Christopher, mama. My future wife needs to know my government name. I’m putting my trust in you. Don’t be tellin’ my business, sweetheart.”
“Who says I’m checking for you, Rio?”
“You accepted my company and drinks. Deep down, you’re intrigued by me. Ain’t no need to hide it. When I see something I want, gotta go after it, mama.” he rasped, voice lowering to a panty-dropping level.
“You’re trouble. I just know it.”
Rio planted both hands on your thighs. The gasp that escaped you lit his brown orbs with passion.
“Can I have your undivided attention for the night? Want to get to know you better, mama.”
Grabbing his outstretched hand, he helped you down off the stool.
“Rio…”
Piercing light flickered in the darkness, pulling you from the memory that played itself in your dreams. Your hand snatched the vibrating phone from the table. Your orbs squinted to read the screen, teeth clenching in frustration.
Fucking Rio, I can’t even get away from him in my sleep. Stupid-handsome-asshole.
With a single tap, the phone rested on DND. You closed off from the world to find a peaceful slumber, only to wake from another dream. Throwing the covers back, you startled, feeling the bed dip. His cologne wafted through the air, and your eyes connected.
“Why all the tossing and turning, amor? Hmm,” he rasped, hand trailing up your arm. His warm palm cradled the side of your neck, rubbing away some of the tension.
“Sorry, did my restlessness wake you?”
“No, querida. I’ve been up taking care of some things.”
“Same old Miguel. Everything business. Still don’t sleep much, huh?”
His eyes crinkled with a small smile, but you could also see sadness. It’s the same unhappiness that’s always lingered, only now accompanied by sparks of anger and resentment. Your mind replayed his words in the elevator.
Where’s your wife, Miguel?
She had other plans tonight.
The slightest mention of her had nearly sent his mood spiraling. You weren’t privy to what was happening in his marriage but didn’t want to pry. He would only reverse card uno your ass. Miguel would insist that you vent about your own life and frustrations.
“Thank you for taking the couch,” you nibbled at your lip.
There was a hint of frustration and guilt lingering in your chest. Not being able to sleep without dreaming of Rio left you feeling conflicted. Part of you wanted to say to hell with loyalty. Being in such a vulnerable state had you craving to be held and cuddled, but regardless of circumstance, the two of you were very much married. Concern swam in the pools of his eyes. Miguel sensed the ongoing dilemma in your head, and his fingers gently cupped your chin.
“Hey, talk to me. What’s all this,” he asked, tugging the lip between your teeth. “Tell me what you need.”
“I can’t,” you sighed.
“You can, and you will. Look at me,” he insisted as your eyes locked.
“Anything you ask me. It won’t leave this room. You need me to hold you until sleep takes over, amor?”
Unable to verbally say it, you gave him a slight head nod. Removing his tie, watch, and shoes, he made it over to the opposite side of the bed. Miguel got right to it, not giving you time to overthink it. He pulled you into his chest, arms engulfing you in a tight hug.
“Were you having nightmares, cariño?”
“No, just happy memories reminding me of the present painful ones,” you replied, voice filling with unshed tears.
“You want to talk about it?”
Silence filled the room as Miguel continued, “We don’t have to ta-.”
His sentence cut short as he felt the tremors and your head burrowed into his side. Miguel’s heart cracked at the sound of the sobs falling from your lips. His arms pulled you further into him until there was no space left, and the palm of his hand rubbed at your head.
“Shhh, you’re okay. I’m here,” he cooed, leaving soft kisses on the crown of your head.
Miguel continued to whisper calming words. You cried until your head pounded, and sleep took over.

can u do a headcanon for rio x doctor!reader? like maybe they meet bc Beth knows her and she calls her in when rio drops off that injured guy in her daughter's bed (season 1)? and then rio being rio is like oooo she might make a good mob doctor
Tumblr media
He just watches you work at first
He's mainly keeping an eye on you to make sure you don't do anything stupid or run off
Beth had called you in a panic saying that she needed your help and you had came
But that didn't mean he could trust you
At least not yet
But once he sees that you're not going to make a run for it or try to call the cops
That you're actually focused on making sure that you can help
He's simply admiring after that
Watching how steady your hands are
How particular and precise your movements can be
How you take care to not hurt the guy more than needed
Checking in on him periodically
You're chill and only focused on helping
Waving Beth off when she keeps hovering over you and trying to wedge herself between you and Rio's prying eyes
Not in a jealous way, but more protective
Not wanting him to drag you into his life like she was
And Rio only smirks because he knows he's going to recruit you anyway
And recruit he does once you've finished up
"OK, keep those bandages on and change them daily and as needed. No soaking in water and try not to drink. Eat a lot of protein to help with the healing process."
The man nods and hobbles off with Mick's help and Beth is quick to motion for Rio to leave
"OK. We did what you asked. You can go now."
It only makes Rio chuckle and he answers her back without even taking his eyes off of you as you stand there with your bag of supplies
"Actually, she looks a little tired. So am I. Why don't you make us a cup of coffee real quick Elizabeth."
She sputters, not wanting to leave you alone, but you throw a soft smile at her and nod
"That'd be good."
She leaves begrudgingly, now only you and Rio in the bedroom and you follow her out, speaking carefully to Rio
"Why don't we sit out here."
He obliges you and follows you out to the living room, sitting down beside you with a smile
"That's some good work you did in there, Doc."
You smile tightly with a nod, eyes on him
"Thank you. Glad I could help."
You don't offer anymore, so Rio keeps going
"It'd be good to have someone like you around, you know? Someone smart and helpful. Someone whose only focus is helping and healing. It'd be very useful."
And you only nod, Rio's pearly whites on display as he leans forward towards you
Not menacingly, but with genuine interest
"Could you maybe be that person, beautiful?"

I need him in a way that isn't natural, I need him in my draws NOW.
______________________________________________________________
"Can I help you with anything sir?" Rio glanced up, his sharp eyes leaving the book he was examining.  The Lord of the Flies or some shit. He was sure he read it in school. But that didn't matter. What mattered was the woman standing before him. His eyes flicked to her neckline, seeing the star shaped necklace around her chest. That right there was perfect, telling him everything he needed to know about her relation to his target.
The woman was the younger sister of King Jericho. Otherwise known as some lame ass pimp who made the mistake of stealing from Rio. And no one steals from him and gets aways with it.
He still remembers how he was sitting with Marcus in a McDonald's drive through. Marcus was eating chicken nuggets, getting barbecue sauce and shit all over his mouth. Rio was telling him to take it easy, then he heard chiming. His phone rang, and Mick told him that their man went ghost. And when they couldn't find him, that meant they couldn't find Rio's money. And THAT was a problem.
So to make a long story short, Rio had to go the long way and go to his family. Mom sent him and Mick packing, dads dead. Only person left was his sister. And that led him to the gorgeous brown skinned woman before him.
"Of course you can, mama. I need help, I'm looking for King." His eyes scanned over her entire body, looking for something, anything, that could get him some help. Her brown eyes, and long eyelashes blinked at him but they didn't show fear or recognition. Instead she stared patiently waiting for him to continue. Nothing, time to try something else.
"Is that a series? Or an author? Do you know the genre?" Trying her best to do her job, he watched her reach into her side for her walkie talkie. So she didn't know about the King part, time to check if she knew about Jericho.
"Nah, it's none of that. I'm looking for Jericho." And there it was. The second the words left his voice in his usual charming manner her eyes filled with panic. Goosebumps appeared on her brown skin and one of her hands flew to her hair. He noticed for the first time that it must be a wig, black hair was in waves down her body and parted down her middle. For some reason her shiny hair was oddly enticing to him. Her teeth sunk into her plump, glossy lips and Rio's eyes flickered over them.
"Like...from the Bible?" Her soft voice was like music to his ears. If only that sentence wasn’t so stupid.
"...The Bible." He repeated while narrowing his eyes. Either he was being played for stupid,which was not a smart thing to do or she was stupid. He wanted to believe the woman he just found attractive even for a moment wasn’t an idiot.
“Nah girl. I think you know what I’m talking about.” Placing the book that was still in his hands on the table behind him. Her chest was heaving quickly and she was clearly beginning to panic. Rio moved his eyes up to Mick, who was looking at a cookbook with Snoop Dogg on the cover. With a wave of his two fingers, Mick began to intercept her escape.
“I don't, I'm sorry. I don’t think I can help you, maybe you should check somewhere else.” Slowly turning on her heels, she walked head first into Mick. His solid chest stopped her, and nudged her glasses further up on her face. Stepping back she softly groaned and readjusted her lenses.
“Now, this looks like an interesting book. Can you tell me what it’s about?” Rio asked, sitting down and Mick led her to put her plump behind, that Rio noticed when he saw her through the shop's window. She nervously took a seat. While clenching and unclenching her hands on her skirt, Rio watched her with observant eyes. With a glance, he motioned to the book attempting to get her to tell him the truth. With a shaky breath one of her manicured hands reached for the book.
“It’s Lord of the Flies. It revolves around this group of British boys who are stranded on an uninhabited island and try to govern themselves. Things go bad really really fast.” Her brown eyes met him once more and he smirked. In response, she looked down at the table and snuck two looks at him.
“Oh nice nice, it got a nice ending n shit?” With a swift nod, he hummed. He kept his eyes trained on the golden star dangling from her chest, probably bought with Rio’s money.
“Alright, here’s the deal. Your brother’s a bitch. He stole from me and ran out, and I need to find him. And I need you to tell me where he is.” She swallowed thickly.
“And who exactly would you be?”
“My name ain’t important moma. Just know, I know you. I know your mom, I know your auntie and your grandma, I know your boyfriend too. You mom is vicious, she sent my ass packing and told me to try you next.” Her eyes got wider and wider with each sentence. He’d probably be shocked too if his own mom sold him out. Her brother had always been trouble for her. At least that’s what he gathered. She’s had to get him out of trouble more than once. Mostly out of trouble with men, going on dates and what not for his sake. No way they weren’t talking any more.
“Look, I don’t know anything about my brother. I haven’t talked to him in like 3 years! I can’t help you. Whatever debt he’s got with you, I can’t settle it.” With a scoff and a sigh, Rio rolled his eyes lightly. Her eyes went wide at his laughter, her finger digging into her nails. She was afraid of him. He didn’t like that, but that brother of hers seems  to have gotten her involved with a lot over the past few years.
“Relax, ma I ain’t gonna hurt you. I just need you to tell me where he is.” Her head shook quickly, her hair flying around wildly. She was still denying contact.
“That’s a nice necklace. You enjoying 21?” Her face went stiff. Her mouth opened slightly to respond, her glossy lips parting. Then they shut quickly as he saw tears well up in her eyes. He was right. The necklace was sent to her apartment by her brother exactly one week ago for her 21st birthday.
“I can’t help you. I don’t know where he is, this didn’t have a return address. It came in an Amazon bag! I mean, if I could I’d help you but I can’t do anything for you gentlemen.” She was trembling in her seat, and two tears escaped her eyes. But if she could receive something from him, she could learn exactly where he was. And given he had no leads, he had to settle for asking her to find out for him.
She was crying like he had threatened her, and he partially imagined what type of people she had been around to warrant a reaction like this.
“Look ma, I just need you to stop crying. Can you do that?” He asked and she nodded, wiping tears from her face.
“I can’t just let you go though. Your brother sent you something and I need you to find out where he sent it from. That’s it. Tell you what, put this book on hold for me. Imma be back tomorrow, with enough to pay for it. Nothing’s gonna happen to you, I just need you to learn this for me.” He slid out of his seat, leaving the trembling woman there and she placed her face in her palms in dismay.
______________________________________________________________
“Shit! What the fuck Rio?! You just break into my fucking house, you couldn't give me a phone call?” Growled the woman in a  slightly drunken anger. She turned on the lights next to the door and kicked off her heeled shoes. His eyes looked up and down her curved figure and she glared at him. Rio let out a laugh and his head lolled back on his shoulders. He was sitting on the back of her couch, petting her black cat who purred gently. Rio already found out that her cat adored anyone who fed her.
“Well yeah baby. We still haven’t found your punk ass brother.”  Her eyes rolled hard into her head, and she threw her purse down and came around to the couch. Plopping down on her couch, Rio looked over at her soft skin covered by her golden dress.
It had been about two months. Two months since Rio went into the bookstore she worked at. Two months after the third day he entered the shop and she informed him that she found him. Then when he got there and found Jericho skipped out once again. And from there, something about her kept Rio coming back to bother the shy woman. Except she wasn't what he thought at first.
The woman slouched on the couch right next to him was vulgar, loud and proud, abrasive and more. She cursed at him, cursed out the TV, cursed out her mother and grandmother and boyfriend. She cursed out Rio. She was perfect for him. She was nice to him, despite their off putting first meeting. She put him in his place when she felt he needed it. She wasn’t afraid to tell him to shut his goofy ass up in her exact words. But still, sometimes he’d look at her and she looked just about ready to fold for him. And Rio liked that shit.
Now in a golden mini dress that she wore, with body glitter all over her breast was enticing Rio. She smelt like a mix of vanilla and a bar. In truth, if she could find her brother for him he didn’t care anymore. He could find him on his own with the clues they found at his last known location. In fact, soon enough they’d get their final location. He just liked bothering her. And it wasn’t like she was even bothering to look for him anymore. Last he asked she told him to suck her dick, she wouldn’t be searching for shit.
“What’s wrong baby, you have a shitty night?” He asked, taking one of his large hands and cupping her face. He noticed her thighs pressed together with intense pressure. A smirk came across his face, and ran a thumb over her stained lips. She leaned into his touch and he waited for his answer.
“My boyfriends being a cunt again.” She sighed and her cat jumped into her lap, patting his paws on her soft thighs. Rio wanted to do that too, boyfriend be damned.
“Oh yeah?” He asked his hand itching down to her neck and his pinky scraping over the chain of that star necklace. That same necklace that pushed them to meet. Her eyes stayed glued to his, as she glanced up at him with wide eyes.
“He’s going on about not trusting my friendship with you. Then he told me to get the fuck on, since I didnt want to dance at the club. He was like ‘oh you rather dance with that other nigga?’ and I was like  ‘he’s not a fucking pussy, he could probably dance better than you’ so he told me to fuck off and I left him and told him not to come home tonight. You’re the other nigga in question. The niggas trippin, he keep bitching about it. He says he knows you wanna fuck me. He’s being a bitch, it’s making me want to cheat on him.” Suddenly he smirked at her. She raised an eyebrow, still feeling the heat of his hand on her throat and rubbing her thighs together.
“And what if I told you he was right?” His hand was now lightly around her throat, and he brushed pieces of her curly afro out of her face with his free hand. Slowly she began to process his words. Then a wicked smile crossed her face and she licked her lips.
“You should do something about that then.” Her voice now low and seductive, as he saw sparks of mischief in her eyes. He leaned in and pressed his lips against her soft ones. They pulled away for a moment and he lightly squeezed her throat harder. Licking his lips, he tasted the liquor and her strawberry lipgloss.
“I’m about to show you what else I’m better than his ass at.”

For the gif drabbles ❤️
"This looks like shit," you threw the money on the table, "Do it again."
Annie and Ruby groaned in tandem, but Beth sighed. "It looks perfect," she said, looking up at you as you stood over her, "We've printed this same design four times--"
"--and it keeps getting slightly less like shit," you cocked an eyebrow, "Look, if you can't hack it anymore..."
"We can!" Annie spoke up, eyes wide. "We can, we'll get it right!"
"It's just..." Ruby chewed on her lip.
You could feel your patience thinning. "Just what?"
"Well," she continued weakly, "Lucy was the artist, so... without her..."
"Ya know, since homeboy did... what he did," Annie added in.
"...It's harder to print. We have her blueprints, but some of these subtler details are just... We need an artist," Ruby finished.
You nodded, scanning the three women before you. Annie looked nervous, as did Ruby, but Beth looked annoyed and defiant.
You were sick of her face.
"So get another artist," you said, getting bored with the conversation.
"Why? So your boss can shoot her?" Beth ground out, glaring up at you.
Your eyes narrowed at the same time Rio chuckled. You turned a bit, angling your body so that you could see him.
He sat on a chair next to a monitor, a hand on his chin and smirk on his face.
"That's funny to you?" Beth spat, anger clear on her face. "You shot a defenseless girl!"
You raised an eyebrow at Rio, but he was still chuckling. If he found her little outburst amusing, then you guess you would allow it.
"Nah," he said, shaking his head, "I'm not laughing about that. I'm laughing at what you said," he smirked over at you, "She called me your boss."
Annie frowned, looking at the two of you. "A... Aren't you?"
"She," Rio gestured towards you, a pride grin on his face, "is my boss. Yeah, see, a real bad bitch don't shy away from the dark parts of this business," he went on, "And so when I told my boss," he pointed at you again, "that I had to kill Lucy cause of your," he looked at the girls, "bullshit, well. She wasn't pleased. And I'm telling you now, looking at her face right now," Rio made eye contact with you, and you could see the pride in his eyes as he looked at you, "My girl ain't letting you dumb bitches fuck our shit up again."
Beth spoke before she could stop herself, "Your girl?"
His smirk stretched over his plump lips, "My boss," he clarified, "and my girl," he looked over at you again, "So, what you think, ma? Have 'em print it again, or have Mick take them downtown and put a slug in each of their heads?"
You turned back to the women, watching the fear swirl in Annie's eyes, the way Ruby stiffened, frightened and trapped.
And Beth's reddening cheeks, you could see the humiliation on her face, now that she was looking at what she could never be, what she could never have, standing right in front of you.
You looked over at Rio, and you thought back on your life with him--meeting him when he was just a runner for your father, Rio remaining loyal to you even after your father died and you took over his organization, the first time you kissed, when you had blood on your hands and he had thought he lost you, the way Rio had grabbed you and held you to him, the first time he ever let himself act like anything but a loyal subordinate to you. You remembered that sick, cold feeling in your gut when you'd heard that he had been shot three times, that he was with the feds. It's what brought you back into his orbit, you'd sworn to keep it professional with him years ago, but that... that pulled you right back in.
You watched Rio watch you, and you felt a wave of protectiveness come over you as you looked at him--the man you loved. You turned to Beth, your gaze cold as ice and as strong as steel, using every ounce of your status as a boss to intimidate her. "How about you choose, Mrs. Boland? You want to print it again this time, and do it right, or would you and your gal pals rather take a ride with Mick?"
"W... We'll print," she said weakly.
Rio's chuckle warmed your soul, and as the ladies worked on the new print, you turned to him. He gave you a special smile, one full of love and appreciation for you, and you turned your back to the girls as they worked.
They didn't get to see the loving smile you gave him back.
That was only for him.

FEBRUARY FLUFF — MANNY X READER X HAPPY LOWMAN.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A/N: Thank you to everyone that took the time out to vote for this thing! I’ve always wanted to write for happy but felt like I wouldn’t be able to do him any justice…this is just me brushing on him being in a relationship so I hope he wasn’t too OOC! Anyways hope you guys enjoy this!
WARNINGS: language, some angst—duh!, slight graphic violence right at the beginning, infidelity, age-gap, and me dipping into some smut?—Don’t get too excited 😆
*FIRST GIF BELONGS TO: @riosnecktattoo + the other doesn’t belong to me either!
PROMPT IS FROM HERE & I’m using: 48. "home doesn't feel like home anymore. you feel like home now."
𓏲𝄢𓏲𝄢𓏲𝄢𓏲𝄢𓏲𝄢𓏲𝄢𓏲𝄢𓏲𝄢𓏲𝄢𓏲𝄢𓏲𝄢𓏲𝄢𓏲𝄢𓏲𝄢𓏲𝄢𓏲𝄢𓏲𝄢𓏲𝄢𓏲𝄢
with the new year just arriving you’ve been standing on business and keeping busy. You always believed in starting off big and ending with a bang but you didn’t actually want to start off February covered in: blood splatter on your face and brain matter falling onto your tall Chanel boots.
There goes that Christmas gift…
it was late and you were just finishing up at the new construction zone, touring the completed model home and agreeing to take it on as a property to sale. You were a real estate agent, one of the very best—if you did say so yourself—in the growing area of Charming and stood on that. Sure it’s name and it’s pretty views was part of what made Charming, charming but every city has its thorns.
Which led to a knife being pressed underneath your chin by a meth head who thought it would be fun to squat here. You weren’t sure how long he’s been hiding out in the home but it didn’t take him very long to attack after business was completed. Listen, you hardly went anywhere without your guard up but your bag was left in the kitchen, phone lost somewhere on the floor after the ambush, and your heart was going haywire while you held your breath, calculating how to handle this.
Before you could tune back into the addicts demands, you ripped your body away, cut on your chin as the knife slipped downwards just before the man fell forward. Your ears only heard ringing, taking up the once quiet of the night in the hills, and you slowly turned your attention to the person who quickly got you out of this messy situation.
Lowering their gun with gloved hands, there stood Manuel, “Manny,” Moreno. Once his long lash framed eyes fully sat on you, he’s shoving it back into his waistband and calls over his shoulder at the two men beside him, who spring into action to clean up their crime scene. He’s moving towards you now but you’re using the sleeve of the mesh new shirt you liked! to wipe away the blood from your face.
“Nu—
He starts to rest his hands on your upper arms but you shove him off, “I’m fine.”
There’s concern on his handsome features as he rasps, “Are you though?”
“It’s not my first time being around a dead body and I’m sure it won’t be my last.” You snap, “just wish it wasn’t fucking with my business but here we are.”
Manny dips his head at you, briefly glancing at his men who are shoving the body into a black bag, “yeah…sorry about that.”
You scoff at this and walk off to the half bath.
Manny hesitates to follow you but says to his men, “take him to the van and make sure y’all get everything spotless in here before we roll out.”
He stalks off in search of you, finding the half bathroom that has the door left open just a crack. Manny raps his knuckle against the door and he can hear you sigh over the water before you shut it off. He takes that as you being decent and pushes the door back with the tip of his shoe. You’ve rinsed and scrubbed your face but he knows when you get home, you’ll just go over that pretty skin even more.
“What’re you even doing here?” You ask, voice steady but there’s a slight shake in your shoulders before you stretch them back and straighten up your posture.
Manny lifts his own as if it’s obvious, “same as you, business.”
“No shit, smart ass! I’m talking about in this area…didn’t you take your spaceship back to AZ where you belong?” You bite but Manny finds that second half amusing.
Manny leans against the doorway, watching your reflection in the mirror, “nah…things changed and put me into a new perspective…so we decided a move to Stockton permanently was the best option.”
That was about fifteen minutes away from Charming.
You felt your eye twitch at this new information as it was your turn to fire off, “How long have you been here?”
Manny seemed to instantly grasp what you were getting at but knew there was no sense in lying as he exhaled through his pierced nose before holding your stare, “Only a couple of weeks.”
Pressing a tongue into your cheek you huff, “a phone call would have been nice.”
Manny lightly sucked his teeth, “Would you have picked up?”
“Probably not but a voicemail or even a damn text would do…unless you also were not expecting to see me here?” You questioned, although part of you had a feeling what that answer would be.
Manny is quiet for a moment and you scoff again. Whipping around with your backside pressing into the sink, arms spread out along the counter you burn your eyes into the man you shared history with. Once upon a time you used to look at him with such light in your eyes but the universe can show you just how wicked people can be. You’ve been on your healing journey and perhaps it can’t all be resolved by your expiration date but it was worth trying…yet the most high knows just how troubling it was for you.
it was difficult when the man you used to be in love with was back to his old tricks like: showing up when you were trying your best to forget his existence. You truly didn’t think you could even if you prayed hard enough while considering so many factors.
“The sons are a conflict and I’m just glad i got here in time.” Was all he said as confirmation.
You’re rolling your eyes, “oh my knight and shining armor! You think I wouldn’t be able to handle myself?”
Manny shakes his head, “Never that, I know exactly what you’re capable of but you hesistated and a thank you would be cool in my book.”
“And you not being a piece of shit would be even better,” you point into his forehead, leaving Manny to lean away from your jabbing nail until you’re shoving your way by, wanting nothing more than to get home and away from him.
Your stomach was churning just being in the same space as him again and you were trying to keep your anger calm but it was increasingly difficult the longer you spoke with Manny.
Moving around the living room, you’re down on your knees searching for the fallen phone and find it just underneath the couch. Bringing it back to your attention, you’re reminded of what last texts you were sending to your agency, (now ready to tell them another story but ultimately knew you probably couldn’t) before being shoved over the couch and then yanked back into the hands of the deceased.
“Look…you can say whatever you want about me but I don’t appreciate your abuelo being around my kid.” Manny tells you and you feel your blood pulsating as you whip your head around.
“What?!” You hiss, head pushed forward in hopes to help you make sense of where this conversation was going.
Manny chews on his bottom lip, “I said—
“I heard what you said,” you got to your feet, “but what makes you think I wanna hear it?”
“You don’t have to want to but I’m gonna tell you anyway.” Manny clasps his hands in front of him, already on defense.
Throwing your head back in laughter you say, “let me tell you something, Manuel. You don’t get to step in whenever it’s convenient for you, which is barely, thinking shit is going to be sweet just because you’re in your feelings about an actual man stepping in taking your place. That same place you didn’t even want, mind you.”
Manny quirked up a brow, “that bag of bones ain’t doin’ shit but getting his gravesite ready. You think that’s cool having that old head raise my kid?”
“What kid?” You quiz, “oh you mean the most adorable three year old girl that you first tried to deny because of something we both did? That same kid you thought was a mistake? The one you tried to hide from your wife? yet she’s the one who had the balls to reach out and want Aya to have a relationship with her big sister, Marbella?”
Manny tightens his jaw as the men are trying their best not to send him any looks as they’re using solution to clean up the hardwood floors. He’s rubbing at his jaw in irritation that his private business was being aired out like this but he’s the one who knew this conversation was going to be had at some point.
Manny’s wife, Lígia was the one to encourage this move. To push Manny to be the man he says he is and shown that he is. She always believed in him when he knew he didn’t deserve it. His wife had unmatched strength with all the deceit he brought into their home and he was just thankful she didn’t take Bella or her love away from him. He knew how shitty it sounded considering that he actually had a friendship with you some time ago—way before he even took those vows. The old him wasn’t as trustworthy and he wanted to try to be now, at least he was according to his brothers but he had his share of dirt. Nobody’s ever perfect inside or outside the club. He’s been married for eight years, had a six year old named Marbella with Lígia and a three year old named Aya out of infidelity with you.
It was always a tough pill for Manny to swallow even until this day. He felt like maybe he took advantage of your heart, promising at the beginning that it would all just be for fun with two friends messing around but you fell fast and even harder when he found Lígia. That was supposed to be you but it never happened. it was something you commonly did, the whole handing your heart over on a silver platter in hopes that your partner would do just the same. Manny ignorantly thought it had to do with the age difference. Now here the both of you stood with you at your early thirties and him approaching forty but this wasn’t the first time he’s ever mentioned this to you.
Manny knew how deeply you cared about him but he still went forth with his marriage and he still wanted you there. As down bad for Manny as you once were, you didn’t want to burst into flames watching Manny seal his love with someone that wasn’t you. Sure you weren’t proud to talk about how foolish you were but it wasn’t a secret like Manny tried to make it out to be. He really wasn’t as smart as he thought, honestly. It wasn’t all about pointing fingers, you had to find your worth, knowing that if Manny really cared about you he wouldn’t have strung you along with false promises. Eventually you knew when to step away for good but of course a pregnancy dragged you right on back until manny showed just how much he didn’t care enough to be there as much as he could for Aya.
Yes it was hard being in two different states now and you for damn sure wouldn’t be uprooting back to Arizona. To make it easier for Manny. He was going to have to put in the effort but instead he’s been here for weeks and his focus is on who Aya is being nurtured by?
He nudges his head, “let’s talk in the kitchen.”
You don’t argue because your bag is in there and you’re itching to get out. Briefly glancing through your bag to make sure your contents were still in there, you lift your head and exhale.
“I know it’s been rough,” Manny rasps as he leans over the large counter, “and I’ve got a lot of things in this world to be apologetic for but I’m here now and I would appreciate it if you would allow me to be there for Aya.”
You hold his stare, “I’d never deprive you of having a relationship with her because of how you treated me. It’s the way you went about everything else and now want to switch up because your wife gave you the okay? is what doesn’t sit right with me.”
Manny sighs aware that this is partly true, yes Lígia gave him the push but he had to learn how to face his truth on his own, “I know I fucked up and I’m sorry—i—just didnt want to be a failure of a husband and father to them but in return I treated y’all like you two didn’t matter. Which is the farthest thing from true. I’ll always be sorry for that time lost…which is why I’m here now.”
‘For how long?’ You thought to yourself.
It wasn’t time to be selfish because Aya deserved to get to know Manny regardless of how young she is at this time. You would have done anything to have more time with your dad if you could and honestly you wanted Aya to determine her own stance with Manny in due time.
For however long that’ll be.
Taking a deep inhale you shrug, “okay…when do you want to see her?”
“As soon as possible,” Manny perks up, “I actually can head your way now—
You grab your jacket, hooking it over your arm before grabbing your bag, “Aya’s not home. She’s spending the night with my mom and Rudy.”
Manny nods as he’s muttering, “right…I guess you and Mr. ‘I’ve fallen and can’t get up,’ probably have big plans tonight.”
Now why did he have to go and say that? Did he see you worrying about his wife or attacking her?
“Excuse me?”
Manny blinks not in the slightest bit worried about your tone, “you know tomorrow’s Valentine’s Day right? You used to love it.”
That holiday came around much faster than you remembered and you showed no emotion at Manny recalling one of your favorite holidays.
“I didn’t forget.” Was all that you said but it was clear Manny didn’t believe that, laughing to himself.
Manny sniffs as he talks once more, “right so…I’ll have the day off tomorrow, so maybe I’ll slide through and grab Aya from your moms and step dad’s and we can have some bonding time—just us three I swear.”
See how he just assumed that you would bring Lígia up? Of course you didn’t think you would one hundred percent be comfortable with that although she did reach out to you but you can never underestimate anyone. The both of you shared words before over the phone prior to the talk about Aya (mostly about you reaching out too much to a married man, although you tried to brush it off with just being besties but Lígia put the boundaries up for Manny since he wouldn’t) but it was never on sight. Lígia made sure of that which in your mind, you labeled that as her being scary of having a convo face to face but she just wanted you out of Manny’s life as it would create more problems for them.
She took it up more with Manny you heard…but she still should have been worried about you fucking her man even after they said, ‘I do.’
“Good luck with that,” you snort already aware how your mother felt about him, “she wont let Aya out of her sight.”
Manny shrugs, “I’ll figure it out.”
You saw something different in his eyes this year. There was a swirl of dedication in them the longer you stared and you didn’t want to get your hopes up. However you would give your mother a heads up since Manny probably already knew where she resided with your step-father. Manny was good at playing at not caring ever since he got into the club and chose to get married but you knew he couldn’t be that heartless. Sure he sent birthday cards here and there once he came to terms with Aya being his and even responded when you thought about child support.
The thing was he just didn’t show up whenever he was near by doing club business. It was the bare minimum and he chose not to. Manny claimed that moving here had partly to do with doing right by Aya and that’s all you could ask for. It still left a nasty taste in your mouth that Lígia got him to step up but that was your own personal problem not Aya’s.
“Alright then,” you start to make your exit until he says…
“Happy Valentine’s Day, Nubia.” His voice is gentle and you expect the tenderness in his tone to make you feel something but surprisingly it doesn’t as he continues, “take care of that cut and don’t forget to pick up something nice for abuelo on your way home.”
You halted but kept your gaze straight, “don’t worry, he’ll give me more than you ever could.”
Which left Manny nodding at your words, rubbing the tension from his jaw as he watched you walk away from him but certainly not for good in his eyes.
Making a stop was not on your to do list tonight but you stopped at your best friend’s lab to shower, take care of the scratch on your chin that would heal in a few days, get tested thanks to being exposed to blood—sadly while being asked a bunch of questions from the worry wart of a best friend that you had but you simply gave her a synopsis before making your way back home after a few texts to your mom and your man.
The drive was a bit longer since you had to go in the opposite direction to get a decent shower but it was what you needed. Eventually you made it through the suburbs and pulled your car right into the open garage beside the familiar bike. Reaching for the sun visor and pressing on the remote, you’re closing the garage door behind you and take a few more seconds to yourself before climbing out.
Each step you took towards the door you hoped the tension erased. The first door was left unlocked while you carried up the stairs, tiredly before unlocking the top door yourself. You don’t even peek to the right where your bedroom is, dumping your items right into the living chair before being greeted by Ope knocking into your legs for attention.
“Hey,” you greet the pit as you scratch behind his ears with a small smile, “you have a good day today? I’m sure you did since you don’t have any bills to pay.”
He barks at you, wagging his tail before running to head up the stairs. Letting out a yawn you raise your arms above your head, cracking the space in between your shoulder blades and blow out a breath as you drag your eyes from the window and to your left.
There Happy stands in what most would find a creepy demeanor. He’s watching you, almost analyzing but you greet him first before he can suspect anything, “hey.”
“Hey,” he blinks almost as if he has to remind himself, “what’s with the change of clothes?”
You frown, peering down although you’re aware what you left the house in but was unsure how Happy knew what you were wearing since his day started earlier than yours today.
“You left the damn shoe box out in the middle of the floor,” he responses in his usual gruff voice, “almost broke my fucken neck.”
Stepping to the bald man with the dark eyes, you wrap your arms around his waist burying your head into his chest to listen to the beat beneath it. “Sorry about that hun, I was rushing this morning.”
“Yeah, I figured.” Happy rests one hand on the middle of your back, squeezing you firmly to his frame.
The both of you hold onto each other for just a little awhile. This was all that you needed, to be in the arms of the man you could trust to be upfront with you and loving despite what the streets labeled him as. It’s not that it didn’t matter but at least you felt sure about this relationship—which didn’t sit right to some but you were grown enough to know what you wanted.
“I need to show you something.” Happy says now rubbing your back in circles, almost as if sensing you had a long day.
You squeeze him with your eyes shut, “is it a sweet chili wing dinner?”
“Better,” happy comments with a smirk as you peer up at him.
Turning your eyes into slits you don’t say much as Happy removes his hand from your back to slip his arm across your shoulders. Leading the way to your bedroom, you’re hit with the satisfying scent of brown sugar and fig, a thick patchwork towel spread out along the bed, and propped up pillows right along the center of the headboard.
“What’s this?”
“Strip,” happy demands from beside you while you frown.
“For…”
Happy rolls his eyes, “stop askin’ questions woman and get naked.”
Giving him a look you turn towards him, fist pressed into your hip while Happy can’t help but to let a smile slip past his lips, faint dimples appearing right with it.
“…am I getting naked by myself or…?”
“if you’re lucky,” happy grips the side of your neck and squeezes, “but first I’m taking care of you with a full body massage.”
A smile breaks out onto your lips now, “aw, happy—
“Don’t get all fucken mushy on me,” happy jeers as you go to scratch the white scruff on his face, “now strip and get your ass over there.”
“You could say please,” you tease kicking off your trainers first followed by Happy doing the honors of yanking up your crewneck.
Laughing to yourself at Happy’s impatience, you guess he’s been waiting a good amount of time for you get home so he could do this. He nods to the bed where you plop down and he lets own a low whistle along with a motion of his finger, “on your belly baby, you know the drill.”
“Oh?” You wink, while Happy grins at you.
Twisting your body, you crawl closer to the pillows, prepared to rest on your stomach but not without catching sight of some oil and flower petals resting in a wooden bowl. Call yourself impressed as you reach into the nightstand to grab your bonnet to slip over your hair.
“I need to be prepared too, hap.” You announce while the said man snickers to himself.
Resting your cheek against the soft pillows you close your eyes, feeling the bed dip and your man hovering over you. His lips are by your ear as he says, “I’ll always take care of you.”
And you believe him.
Happy’s touch is always rough but careful when it comes to you. You keep your eyes closed, body sinking into the comfort of the blanket and the roominess of your shared bed. His fingertips slip between your bra and skin, lifting the garment upwards before messing with the clasp. Being free from that trap makes you feel better already but there’s goosebumps as Happy trails a fingertip down your spine, against the dark art in Arabic that decorates your skin just right.
His hands are on the waistband of your leggings now and he doesn’t say much, he never does, making sure his movements are precise and swift; slipping a hand underneath you, lifting your hips with one arm while he uses the other to remove your leggings for you. The house is always toasty, just warm enough for the both of you during this comfortable but breezy winter but the goosebumps always arise once your skin is bare and underneath the gaze of the man you had no problem calling yours.
You’re left in your underwear and bonnet just the way Happy likes it—occasionally in your Mumu’s (don’t knock it until you try it ladies!) too but for tonight’s purposes? This would be his first choice to keep locked in his memory. He’s reaching over you again, rough fingertips grasping the bowl to tip it right over your skin. You don’t predict it to be warm and it almost makes you flinch but it’s soon smoothened out once happy’s touch is applied.
He starts at your shoulders first, where there seems to be the most tension. Just the right amount of pressure had you squirming but he knows you can take it, knowing just when to ease off, trailing his touch down your arms and interlocking his fingers with yours that are buried beneath the pillows. Then he’s back at it, tackling the knots and backing away towards your spine and going right back to make sure he’s doing his job.
Happy’s always loved your legs, especially when they’re slamming back against his, but this time he has to make sure they’re ready for what’s to come. You’re always on your feet showcasing homes or hunched over a desk so he knows your shoulders and legs would be the most problematic but it’s not like he’s worried.
“Hold on for me, lady.” He warns you just as he jams his thumbs over your upper thighs, making you groan and lift your foot up in protest.
He smacks it back down against the bed, noting that he would get to that later. However he knows your body pretty well so he attempts to keep your mind off the soreness that releases, “…want to tell me about your day?”
Happy’s not the biggest talker but based on research and with his own experience with his mother, he knows directing the conversation elsewhere helps people get through it. Which is a huge contrast when it comes to his job of getting some answers if you get what I’m saying…
“Only if you tell me about yours,” you huff twisting your body to the right in pain but Happy has no problem sitting right on your ass.
Happy snorts, “know i can’t tell you all those details, lady.”
You laugh a bit, “not sure id want to hear the graphics anyways,” relaxing a bit as he switches to his right and your left, which seems to be less painful, “Manny’s back and wants to attempt a relationship with Aya but I don’t want to be the bitch that keeps her away when he’s the one who pushed us away at the start. Yet he has all these standards and preachings with the damn club but couldn’t acknowledge his kid because he screwed around on his wife with me multiple times. I’m scared and don’t want Aya to grow up getting her heart stomped on by a wolf in sheep’s clothing.”
Happy is listening but he doesn’t respond right away. He couldn’t care less about manny the shitty Mayan to be honest and Happy honestly never saw himself being a father—if that’s what you and Aya considered him as! he was more of a pet dad, and even fell in love with your pet snake, Bingo first before having the chance to meet the curious light hearted toddler with the wide doll-like eyes and pretty long eyelashes who had wind chimes for a laughter box. Granted Happy’s only been around for almost a year but as much as he cared about you, caring about Aya was just a bonus.
This manny punk missed out and you were better than happy. If happy had a woman that didn’t step up for their kid, she’d probably be six feet under—in pieces. However he was the killer out of the couple whereas you said your peace and expected that to be done while still hurting over situations. If situations kept being pressed? That’s when things had the potential to go left on your terms.
“We’ll make sure it won’t,” happy says running his hands down to your ankles now and you’re almost sinking into the bed at his words.
“You genuinely mean that, hap?” Your voice wavering and that makes happy do a sharp turn to glance at you.
He’s moving now, gripping your shoulder and flipping you over to meet your gaze which slowly opens, body aware that you need to have eye contact as he speaks with you. Happy’s hovering over you, palms down by the side of your head as his dark eyes pierce into yours, “have I ever shown you any different? I’m nowhere near that motherfucker and I don’t plan on leaving you…either of you…at least not on purpose.”
There’s that honesty you couldn’t hate.
Your mother and step-father didn’t know exactly what Happy was into but they knew it was anything but good. Of course they opposed the entire thing and also didn’t want him around Aya, which you took precaution of since you were unaware if this would last but it has so far. There was only one way this relationship would end and that’s something the both of you vowed. Something the both of you swore to take seriously. There was also an age-gap just like you and manny but the difference was: love was actually in the room.
“What if you just up and decide you wanna go back to Tacoma, cutting all ties with us? People change their minds all the time you know?” You hated being vulnerable like this but having your heart on your sleeve shouldn’t be a crime.
Happy shrugged, “then I’ll take you guys with me. home doesn't feel like home anymore. you feel like home now."
Your eyes flick back up and a watery smile is present as Happy brushes his lips against yours. Before he reaches up to yank the bonnet over your eyes, “even this raggedy bonnet feels like home.”
He’s grinning while you laugh a bit then lift it up and peek up at him, “not too much now—but I love you anyways.”
Happy dips his head in agreement.
Which makes you reach up to caress his head as if it were your own personal crystal ball and Happy knows just what you’re thinking, wiggling his head from your grasp. “Since you want to be grabby…why don’t you let me massage something else?”
He pats just below with a delivish smirk, “ain’t love day tomorrow?”
“Is it now?” You curl your hand behind your head, “Was this your whole plan?”
Happy shrugs, “I’d get you under me one way or another regardless.”
“Look at you being so damn sure of yourself!”
“Yeah I am. No toddler in the house, a nice massage, me tending to our pussy, and a second meal afterwards? Sounds good to me.” Happy ticks off with his fingers.
You snort, “well when you put it that way? Oh how romantic!”
“I did good though?” Happy questions, a flick of doubt appearing over his face before it’s gone.
You reassure running your thumb over his cheek, “Yeah you did, you’re great with your hands.”
“And I still want to use ‘em.”
“Only if you get my Valentine’s Day gift for you?”
Happy frowns, “That bouncy heart headband?”
“How did you?” You started but shake your head knowing not to question it, “that wasn’t for you that was for Aya.”
“Then where is mine?”
“See, that’s what happens when you go snooping.” You laugh.
Happy slaps your thigh, “well?”
“It’s nothing big but it’s under Aya’s bed because I knew you wouldn’t look there.”
Happy sharply exhaled through his nose and backs away with you. “Don’t move,” he warns stomping out of the room and up the few steps to Aya’s room.
Snuggling back into the bed, you await for Happy’s return with the glitter red box. It’s already open as he tosses tissue paper onto the floor, and holds up one rubber item.
“Pound town ticket,” happy is smirking at you and tosses it right on your body watching as it lands on your torso, “don’t mind if I do and I get two? We’ll use the second one tomorrow.”
You laugh as you pick up the item and give it a kiss before placing it on the night stand. Sitting up on your elbows and you smile as Happy keeps digging through the box to find the personalized boxers.
“Oh shit, look at these!” Happy holds them up, showing the black underwear with hearts printed all over front and back with the middle having your face and a drawn body hugging around where his junk would be.
Asking the man, “You like the cheesy little gift?”
“Hell yeah, it’s stupid but I’m gonna wear these—
“Now?” You pry.
Happy sucks his teeth, “no not now! I’m trying to get out these jeans and into my home.”
Laying back, you lift your feet and spread your legs, peering at Happy, “come on in then.”
The darkening of Happy’s eyes means you don’t have to tell him twice as he chucks the box to the side, licking his lips as his eyes remain locked on you. You enjoy the view as well as Happy hooks his hands through the belt hoops of his jeans, his v-cut being prominent that you have to bite down on your bottom lip, watching him get out of them just as fast as he’s charging over to the bed.
Squealing you welcome him into your arms after he yanks on your ankles, toppling right on top of your body. You always love when he puts if not all but most of his weight on you, burying you into the sheets while he nips at your shoulder and places an open mouthed kiss against your neck. He loves the way you smell naturally or even fresh from a shower. Always like the fresh start of spring, like a harsh rain, cucumbers, and floral—like your favorite flowers that you’re allergic to, lilies.
You always smell soft despite the resting bitch face you have. And he always cares for you just right. That same feeling is evident when he spends time on your breasts, caressing the roundness of your face while sucking and biting. He even runs his tongue over the fresh scratch on your chin and that almost makes you pry your eyes open but your focus is always directed elsewhere once Happy has his hands on you. You’re at his mercy before he’s even inside you but Happy times everything right.
Knows when to tease and get you ready for him. Majority of the time its difficult to have these times together with a young child in the house, Ope trying to cock block, or both of your jobs getting in the way but when you do, it’s best to savor these moments.
With your legs in the air like the letter V to match his hips, body shuddering with Happy holding you right against him at the edge of the bed, he isn’t quick to move like normally. He wants you to feel every inch and he wants to feel just how you were made for him.
Only him.

Chapter Four | Regálame un poco de azúcar
Tumblr media
"Are you sure you don't need anything else?"
"Nah, just my laundry."
The dullness in Rio's voice had caused Beth to roll her eyes. She felt a certain type of 'ick' over his lack of playfulness with her. Her smugness quickly replaced her disappointment. But, that quickly diminished when a few slick thoughts raced through her mind. Due to the pair being seated across from one another in a booth, Beth was able to easily brush her moist hand across his thigh from underneath the table. " Actually, I left it in my dryer," she said in a soft-airy tone with a slight purr. Leaning in closer from across the table. Her breasts spilled over the black tabletop. Mick, who stood nearby, simply shook his head.
Rio's once-blank expression slowly began to change. His eyes slanted upwards as the corners of his lips peeled back into a smile. And then suddenly he began chuckling "Oh really?" he mused.  Beth giggled in response but Rio's chuckle grew into robust laughter. When he and Mick held eye contact, Rio slowly shook his head. The men shared a mental conversation where words didn't need to be spoken.
"No, a big fat juicy cheeseburger sounds even better right now."
"Oh my god yes, and chocolate milkshakes but with whipped cream and chocolate-covered strawberries at the bottom." Epiphany existed out of the champagne room alongside Crystal.  Both dancers looked at the pair across the table. Vise versa from the opposite side. Despite Epiphany's smile dimming down, her mood was ruined. The sight before her wasn't something she needed to see…ever. It created a sourness in the pit of her stomach that replaced her hunger. As well as a foul taste at the back of her mouth. The sick part of all of it was that she had no reason to feel this way. They weren't anything. But, Epiphany couldn't shake the sick feeling.
"Oh hey guys," Crystal greeted with a bubbly tone and waved on her way to the bar. Epiphany gave the fakest smile she could muster as she followed along. She fought with everything in her to not look his way, and she did a pretty good job of it.  Epiphany made sure to sit on Crystal's side and wasn't facing the business partners and focused her attention on the bartender. She didn't have to look his way to feel his stare. Hell, she still could feel him even weeks after their last encounter. Or how she yearned to feel his long fingers fill her, drum her insides the way he would tap them against the table to a tune he only knew. 'Maybe he sprinkled some of that coke over his dick? that's probably what's got me hooked.'  She thought to herself. "I'll take vodka, orange juice, and light ice,"  she ordered.
"Hey uh…do you girls mind putting on some proper clothes or actual robes when outside the champagne room? You don't have to be naked around the whole building." Beth commented while puffing her chest out. Both Rio and Mick raised an eyebrow, a subtle signal of skepticism and amusement.
 Beth wasn't a fan of the men's wandering eyes. There was a reason she preferred the Detroit gangster to pick up his cut during the daytime versus the night. Less distractions. She could see Epiphany's topless torso through her mesh baby-blue robe and Beth was disgusted.  The girl left nothing for the imagination and Beth supposed that was to be expected of someone who did what she did. The strip club was too cheap for her taste as were the girls in it.
"Strip club by night, nunnery by day. Gee, you're an absolute visionary boss," Epiphany said sarcastically. It was the shared laugh between Rio and Mick that caused the ex-housewife's face to redden.
"Look I know it's hard for you to tell the difference between-" Beth started but was dismissed by Epiphany's loud yawn.
"Ugh, I need a cold shower and a nap." And with that Epiphany got up and strolled to the locker room sipping her drink.
"Looks like you got a lot to straighten out," Rio said to Beth. He then stood up and roughly patted her shoulder, "I'll be back for my cut," He and Mick departed from the side door.
Epiphany's hands shook as she stood in the room on the other side of the club. Her lips formed in a pout around the red solo cup. The cool-to-hot burn of her icy beverage numbed the back of her throat. She was used to her all-nighters at the club turning to a daytime double. But that mixed with her Karen of a boss and seeing the revolting sight of the cardigan wearer with the guy she had the hots for…just didn't mix well. " I don't like this shit" she whispered to herself.  It had been a while since a man who she had chemistry with was consistent with her. Rio wasn't at the club the majority of the time but he still managed to send her a text that always consisted of 'Have a good night champ.' or 'You have a good night?'. Then he'd call in the early morning hours of one to two a.m. and they'd talk. Icebreaker conversations about things like soggy cereal were better than fresh. They also liked The Weeknd's earlier albums and Mac Miller. Oddly enough, Rio adored Jazz music. Mostly live rather than CDs. Epiphany looked forward to their midnight conversations. Seeing him in person just felt surreal. In the present, Her annoyance was fixed with a hot shower and getting dressed in fresh clothes. Epiphany left the club in a denim mini skirt, pink Ugg boots, and an oversized mocha-brown fox fur coat over her white Henley top. The crisp fall air sent a feeling of refreshment through her as she walked along the street. The stiffness of the club depleted with each step she took away from it.
"You know green ain't really your color, Champ." She knew that familiar husky voice anywhere. Like a kiss to the side of her ear, it warmed the back of her neck. The burly tattooed man was in the driver's seat, but Rio sat in the passenger side with his arm out the window. His charming smile seemed almost taunting. The black G-wagon drove at the same pace she walked.
"Depends on the shade," Epiphany replied. Crossing her arms across her chest, she turned and faced the truck. Despite being feet apart, a level of intimacy was shared between the two of them. Their mirrored expressions of longing eye contact, raised brows, and playfully teasing smiles. Like a silent tango shared between the two.
"So, where you headed?" Rio asked as he drummed his hand against the side of the car.
"Wherever you're going." She smirked.
"Está loca por ti, hermano." Mick snickered from the driver's seat causing Rio's smile to widen.
"Well come on then," He hopped out of the car and proceeded to open the backseat door. Epiphany smiled his way as she walked over to the car. She placed a soft but swift kiss on his cheek; which reached the corner of his jaw due to their height difference. Stan and Ruby had driven past the pair and the mother of two couldn't help but gawk at the scene with her mouth open.
"Stan," She hissed and smacked her husband's shoulder, "Did you see that? The hoodlum is getting frisky with the new bimbo. That's some straight foolishness." She shook her head with disapproval. Her husband chuckled in response as he pulled in around the corner," I thought the same thing when your girl started hunching with him. That's more normal than our council woman getting jiggy with him." Ruby shot Stan a side-eye but said nothing further.
Meanwhile, in Rio's car laughter was being shared. "No, pero piénsalo (think about it) What type of meat even is  two dollars?" Epiphany expressed before shaking her head in disbelief, "No me importa que no sea Carnitas or Pernil. (I don't care what you say, it's not pork or pulled pork)"
"It's an unbeatable deal. Maybe not all pork but it's got some pork in it…somewhere." Mick defended, "Don't downplay Arbys, you ain't built for that type of flavor kid."
Epiphany scrunched up her nose, "Definitely not. That type of flavor will have you ending up in a grave or dead in some gas station toilet."
"That ain't ever happened," Mick replied.
"Not yet." She smirked.
"You're both taking this a lil too seriously." Rio laughed from the passenger seat.
"Like when Reyes Carnitas don't add extra jalapenos on your burger?" Mick muttered, giving his boss the side-eye. The trio continued to bicker, laugh, and roast one another's restaurant and food choices to Reyes Carnitas. Each of them ordered burgers with their preferred fixings and their conversation switched to MMA fights. Epiphany discovered that Mick was a pretty cool guy who was funny in his way. She figured he was the strong silent type but in a non-work setting, he was laidback and quick with comebacks to roasts or opinions. She couldn't help but admire the Brotherhood he and Rio shared.  They were more than boss and employee which was nice to get a glimpse of. As the group finished their Coronas, Mick gave Epiphany a head nod goodbye before he and Rio smacked hands. The man left in a separate black Mercedes that had been parked in the restaurant's parking lot.
Rio checked his watch before looking at Epiphany, "You ready to go, champ?" he asked. And once she nodded the pair left the shop. His hand rested against her lower back causing goosebumps to form across her skin. As she climbed into the passenger seat of the truck, her face grew hot at the feeling of his hand smacking against her ass. "Los jalapeños te pesaron!(the jalapenos got you heavy-handed)" she teased and the two shared a laugh.
"Where are we going?" She asked as she filed her nails during the drive.
"You'll see when we get there," he replied shortly.
"Are you taking me somewhere to end me for getting snappy with your old lady?" Epiphany teased as she looked over at him.
"Ha! You got jokes huh?" Rio laughed into his fist as he slouched back in his seat. His laugh could cure even the saddest of people. It was contagious.
"Too many sometimes," She replied with a grin.
Tumblr media
The posh country club was the last place she expected Rio to spend his free time. It was far out of her league and looked every bit like a place Elon Musk would attend. The fresh scent of oak trees filled the air; that no doubt had been meticulously placed across the acres of well-structured land that could be seen from the high gates. Epiphany felt so underdressed in her attire. But she didn't let her discomfort show. Instead, she left her jacket in the car and walked in beside him with her head held high. His hand resting against her back gave her a sense of reassurance and a boost of confidence. Epiphany remained close by his side with a tight grip on the strap of her Chanel mini-flap purse. "Hello Mr.Cruz, Pleasure to see you again," greeted the man at the front desk as Rio checked in. His attention then shifted to Epiphany and he smiled at her "Hello, enjoy your afternoon."
"Hi, thank you." Epiphany replied politely. Once she and Rio were out of earshot, she teased"Cruz huh? One more piece solved in the mystery." He grinned slyly as he removed his Nike duffle bag from his shoulder to his hand. As he looked down at her through his dark lashes and amber eyes, he cracked a smile at the corner of his lips. "Two pieces…since I didn't take you for a golfer." she poked fun further. Her breathing started to get unsteady as he tilted his head down and leaned in closer to her. Nose to nose, chest to chest. Her eyes caught the glimmer of the diamond stud in the corner of his nose.
"I don't play golf," He whispered an inch from her lips. He sealed his words with a delicate kiss to her lips that made her mind go hazy. She felt a flutter in her stomach like a butterfly spreading its wings, "If you wanna know something darlin, all you gotta do is ask." he said in a low tone after his lips parted from hers.
With an inaudible exhale she opened her eyes and asked, "What's your name? All of it."
"Christopher Lorenzo Cruz." he smiled.
Something so simple held much weight to it. His sharing of those details with her required a certain level of trust. A layer of one of the many walls he built had been knocked down.
"That's attractive." Epiphany blurted out which earned her an amused chuckle from Christopher.
"Thank you. Keep it to yourself at work though, Champ." He replied. As he earned a nod of agreement in response, he grinned "My girl, I gotta get changed but order whatever you'd like at the bar." And with that, he patted her shoulder and went into the singular changing room.
'Christopher Lorenzo Cruz' Epiphany repeated to herself a few times as she walked off to the bar, smiling.
Who knew watching a man play tennis could be seen as sexy? Well, it was indeed sexy. Epiphany watched Christoper from afar. She sucked the juice out of her Fuji apple as gazed at him. Her eyes rank him from top to bottom. He looked so delicious in his cream-colored club polo shirt and slightly baggy navy blue trousers. Her lips pursed against the flesh of the apple as the juice dripped down the sides of her lips and her eyes narrowed in on him. The sun buttered his tanned skin and the beads of sweat that trickled down the sides of his face gave his skin a luminous glow.  She couldn't but admire how quick on his feet he was.
His opponent, an Asian woman who looked no older than sixty. As soon as the two stopped their game and shook hands, Epiphany raised her brow as she noticed four Asian men dressed in black walking their way. The men exchanged handshakes with Christopher and handed him a black envelope. The meat of the apple crunched in her as Epiphany watched him open it and a sly smirk fell to his lips. What contents were in the envelope itched her mind. But curiosity killed the cat so she didn't dwell on those thoughts for too long. Feeling eyes on him, Christopher looked up to the balcony. Epiphany had blew him a kiss to which he waved back to in response.  He then stuffed the envelope into his jogger's pocket before jogging off the tennis court. Epiphany and Christopher didn't reunite until a few minutes later. He came out in a fresh Adidas tracksuit and they'd shared coffee on the balcony. "Yo, have you tried the lemon cheesecake yet? It's dope-"
He was interrupted by Epiphany brushing her hand along his thigh.  Her thumb pressed down against his crotch and rubbed her fingers along his length. She leaned in close to him from across her seat, "I'd rather have you," she whispered before placing a kiss to the side of his cheek. The sharp stubble of his facial hair tickled her skin. The warmth of his breath sent tingles down the side of her neck as he chuckled in her ear. His hand grasped at the back of her neck, the edge of his nose brushed against the side of her cheek, "So, how you want it mama."
"Surprise me." She challenged with a smirk and lewd glint in her eyes.
Tumblr media
Epiphany hadn't expected to be brought to Christopher's apartment. She honestly thought he would take her to a hotel or do her in the country club showers, but she wasn't complaining. The moment she stepped into his loft apartment, The warm scent of bergamot and honey hit her. Despite the minimalist-industrial aesthetic of his place that consisted of black, brown, and various hints of the shade of honey; the place had a lived-in comfort to it. Casual elegance with an amazing view of the city. But, she had only gotten that view for the five minutes that it took to take off her shoes and coat; before she snatched up into his arms.
So swift like a fox capturing its prey. One of his arms had wrapped around her waist, pulling her into his chest with a firm grip. So close that she could feel his heartbeat against her chest. Their bodies seemed almost made for each other with how in tune they were. Their tongues melt into one another's mouths. They spoke of her admiration for one another with their tongues rather than their words. Her legs slid up the sides of his body as Epiphany leaped onto him. Her hands grasped on his shoulders as his mouth indulged in hers. Enough to pull a gasp from her mouth. Kissing against each other hard with lingering kisses that left saliva dripping down their chins. The same hands that broke many bones now squeezed and caressed her ass with the same iron grip from underneath her skirt. The flimsy material of her rose-pink panties was torn off and discarded onto the floor along with her skirt. Just as she bunched up the crewneck and tugged it off his slender frame. Both of them left a trail of clothing down the dark hallway to the door of Christopher's room. The whole city skyline of Detroit was their audience from the surrounding glass of his bedroom.
"Por Favor ruin me Papíto," Epiphany begged him as he bit at her neck. The weight of his body pressed down into hers as she sank into the cloud-like mattress. Her hips desperately buckled up against his, " I miss you inside me," she shamelessly admitted as he kissed her all over her neck and breasts. His hot tongue lapped over her hardened brown nipple with a soft bite. Epiphany couldn't help to be greedy and needy, she grasped his long-length dick in her hand. 'Coñyo, his dick is so pretty.' she thought to herself as she stroked him with her fingers, admiring his smoothness. An ache in between her thighs made her feel every inch of it stuff her full. How they'd managed to get it all to fit inside her the first time was sheer luck and endorphins bliss. Carefully, appreciating every inch with a warm grip as their lips met once more. His hands caressed her neck, tracing her jaw as they kissed. Epiphany almost squirted on his sheets from the animalistic, Nearly lion-like groan that escaped from the back of his throat to her lips.
"Aw, que te pasa amor? Can't wait?" Christopher chuckled deeply against her lips followed by his tongue trailing along her neck. His hand covered hers as he guided the head of his cock along her slit; nudging at her clit. Her soft, needy moans were music to his ears. For a moment, just for a single moment in time...he needed to look at her. His warm hand grasped her jaw and neck, "Look at me Mamitá." His gold Cuban link dangled an inch from her chest. Christopher basked in her loveliness as their dark eyes stared into one another. A subtle smirk laid across his lips.
Nothing but their shallow breaths could be heard in the room. Epiphany suddenly grew nervous. Gulping as he edged in closer. This sinister look in his eyes made her clit throb like a second heartbeat. "Por favor," she pleaded with her big eyes. Her pleas were answered but not how she expected. His strength was the way he managed to flip and bend her over onto her stomach and knees with little to no hassle. Like he owned her. And he did. Epiphany arched her back like a cat as his palms slipped down her sides. She let out a sultry moan filled with glee the moment he plunged all eight inches of his length in its entirety into her soaked pussy. Her drenched center hugged his fatty length tightly. The filled feeling he provided made her pupils widen as that familiar endorphin high that cocaine usually provided was now replaced with an even harder hit of bliss.
This time the feeling was mutual. This was some quickie in a bad bathroom or a drunken hotel hook-up. This was Christopher's dessert after a long day. The essence of 'Feng shui' lay between her lips. He stroked her deeply causing a stretch within her opening. His hips rolled off her plump and perky ass. Mounting over her tanned body with his own, He held her throat firmly in his hand with a firmer hold each time he ravenously jack-hammered Jack into her cunt that adorned his cock with thick, and warm, layers of her sweet nectar. Her pussy grew wetter around his length, taking him and swallowing him whole. Sending body-jolting shockwaves through their bodies and shaky breaths to release from both their mouths. Christopher's brows knitted together in fascination at the sight of her maroon-reddened cunt clenching around his shaft. A sense of arrogance ignited within him over the fact he was the sole reason for her eagerness, her downright need for his dick, the way her body curled up against him, and the muffled moans that came out her pretty mouth were a confidence-boosting sight.
His body slipped off of her then he sat upright on his knees, spreading her asscheeks apart to reveal her sloppily soaked pussy. Glistening messily around his cock "Que lindá, that is the prettiest pussy I've ever seen mamitá," he smirked with a rough smack to her ass with both of his hands. He couldn't help but to palm at her soft skin as it jiggled against his palms, He then relentlessly pounded into her center of heat, working her wet folds open wider with the erratic, deep, thrusts that caused her to cry out. Lewd, squishing noises of their skin rubbing and bouncing off one another bounced off the windows.
Christopher's cock was so deep that Epiphany could feel the pressure of his thrusts in the center of her chest. Heat rushed to her cheeks and the back of her neck as she clawed at his black sheets, "Fuck! A-aah fuck!" she nearly hated him. Hated how alive he made her feel. He knew every nerve to hit. Every beat, every tempo. He knew it all in a matter of moments. Like an animal eating her from the inside out he ruined her. He controlled her body with his stronghold to her waist; yanking her back so that she couldn't squirm away from the ravenous rath of his dick plunging into her pussy to split her open wider. The once tight muscles loosened and stretched like violin strings being strung. His relentless thrusts had turned to affectionate, sensual strokes that massaged the depths of her throbbing core. Every half a minute he'd pull his long length out and fuck into her with one rough thrust that hit the core of her bundle of nerves. And lord, it made the dancer sob loudly "Shh I know Mamita, I know." His deep voice comforted, sounding as refined as aged whiskey, "Ábrete más para mí, dame un poco de tu azúcar, amor." with a rough smack to her ass.  As if her body only worked on his command, Epiphany's hips shook violently causing her knees to dig deep into the mattress the moment that she messily came. Cumming felt like she had jumped off the edge of the highest mountain and dove straight into an ocean. Nothing but air filled her lungs, her chest tightened, and behind her closed lids she saw stars. Sharp needles and pins shot through her nervous system. Her soul smiled. Her hot skin felt cool.
She slowly was brought back to life as he left love bites on her shoulders, back, and all the down to the top of her ass. His teeth sank into the smooth flesh of her left chest, biting her tenderly and then leaving hot, sloppy wet kisses in its place. Christopher was greedy, intimately greedy when he had something worth possessing. Worth fucking, adoring, worshipping, etc. Someone that he just clicked with, without words needing to be involved. The peak of heaven he brought her to didn't stop when she adorned his dick with her sweet nectar. Time slowed down in that moment and all he focused on was her. Riding out that Tsunami wave with her was the only goal. His tall frame overlapped her petite one, Epiphany felt his warm, sweaty skin against her back. She couldn't help but hold on tight to the side of his thigh, digging her nails into his skin for stability from his thrusts."C-chris…Chris mm-papí I can't," she whined and whimpered. Beads of sweat dripping down the sides of her face caused her dark hair to cling to the sides of her face, neck, and breasts. 'This is it, I'm gonna die' was all Epiphany could think as she blabbed protests between her moans. The crown of his cock continuously rubbed against her most sensitive spot and the rest of his length rocked hungrily into her wetness at a frantic pace that made her heart race.
His open-mouthed kisses against the side of her face felt like fire; with his fingers tangled in her hair. Gripping at it by the root with a firm tug that caused her head to tilt back, “ Sí, You can take it,” Sound of smacking flesh and his balls bouncing off of her skin echoed amongst their shared groans and cries. Drilling into her at an unrelenting tempo, massaging the deepest spots of her walls a sensual yet sinister tempo caused Christopher's jaw to tightly clench and eyebrows to crease. Her dripping cunt was in a perfect sink with his throbbing cock until both of their bodies shuddered. "Coñyo!" they both loudly groaned as they reached their peak. Both of their hearts stopped for two seconds and their world halted. Like an LSD trip; the stresses, tensions, and annoyance of reality and all ordinary consciousness functions were demolished and nothing but a weightless ease took over. The miracle of the naked existence of the sacred ritual of sex that brings out the essence of serenity was shared between them at that moment. Epiphany was filled with his seed that felt like she was filled with the warmth of the sun. Neither of them could move an inch. Far too busy basking in the frequency that buzzed between their bodies.
Two things Epiphany was sure about after that. One, he had high-quality dope. And the second, he had a higher quality dick. A sugary, tropical fruity aroma filled the air of his bathroom. Premo-grade Mary Jane straight from Cameroon was passed between the two of them in a skull-shaped bong. The two were seated on the floor of his black-marble step-in shower. Epiphany had her head rested against his shoulder as warm water sprinkled down their bodies. The 'mist' setting of his shower head allowed a nice sprinkle without the heaviness of being drenched. "I'm gonna steal the skull, sorry in advance," She said. Earning a chuckle from Christopher.
"You know people usually don't say what they're gonna steal," He passed the bong her way.
"Mhmm, well…it's either this or that very pretty gold clock on the nightstand." Epiphany replied, which caused him to shake his head. That infectious smile of his made her swoon.
"Nah, need that for business." he dismissed.
"Oh?" she turned her head and faced him with a coy smirk, "What's a pencil-pushing businessman need with a gun? Gold plated at that." she teased. Christopher side-eyed her before the two shared a chuckle. He the. reached his hand over and grasped her jaw before his lips softly pressed against hers. Slowly, sensually, and carefully their lips moved against one another. Playfully, he then bit at her bottom lip before pulling away to rasp,
"To keep you in line."

• one night you were craving a milkshake from a specific place, but the nearest restaurant to get it had a broken machine
• so he drove another 30 minutes (on top of the original 10) to get you one
• it didn’t matter to him that he spent over an hour driving at 2 am

• one day you mentioned that you really wanted both peanut butter AND pepperoni
• he didn’t show it, but Rio was disgusted by the idea of it
• still, he dutifully fulfilled your request, albeit horrified by the fact you enjoyed it
~~~
• when it came time to deliver, you were scared, but mostly in pain
• Rio held your hand the ENTIRE time, refusing to let you go, even when you were swatting at him with your other hand
• he spent a lot of time yelling at the doctors to give you something for the pain
• he hated seeing your tear-streaked face contorted in pain
• when the doctors told you it was time to push, you practically froze
• you had been screaming at them for hours to get the baby out, but now that it was time, you began to worry
• you started sobbing to Rio about how you weren’t prepared and you couldn’t possibly be a good mom
• but he squeezed your hand, rubbed your head, and gave you a kiss on the cheek, assuring you that you would be the best mother
• when the baby finally came out, it brought tears to his eyes
• and just when he thought that he couldn’t get any happier, they let you hold the baby
• he knew then that he was a goner
• after you and the baby were cleaned up and you had a moment to rest, he had his grandmother bring Marcus in
• he was just as excited as his father was
• and when Rio saw his son cuddling with you while cradling his new baby sibling, he knew that he’d be perfectly okay with having as many children as you’d give him
.  .   ˚ .  .   ˚ .  .   ˚ .  .   ˚ .
Beth's house-
A guy named Rio showed up at Beth's house, threatening all of us because of the money we took from the grocery store. I mean, I would too since we took over half a million, but it is what it is. We honestly didn’t know that he owned the grocery store or had ties with them, but I guess he did. Rio has a tattooed eagle on his neck and a buzz cut. He has warm, hickory eyes full of mystery, dominance, and a touch of familiarity that gave me comfort and excitement. He came in with three other guys. They all had a big build with tattoos and were wearing all black. Rio was also wearing black, but he was shorter than the other guys that were surrounding him; however, his body gave off a sense of security and self-confidence, making the three other guys look weak. His face contorted with rage, and his body was tensed up while he slowly paced throughout the kitchen as he made heavy eye contact with all four of us. His thick, husky voice echoed through the house as he made this short speech about getting his money back. I toned out half of it because I had made that speech a hundred times to people, but it sounded way better. We were all standing in the kitchen, surrounded by the guys he was with. Beth, Ruby, and Annie were all in tears, pleading for their lives, but I looked at him with a deceiving glare, not giving a crap about what he was saying. He was boring me, and I think he noticed that when he looked at me. He paused for a minute, and a heavy silence flooded the air. His eyebrows furrowed as he started walking slowly towards me. His jaw clenched up as his thick hazel eyes met mine in fury.
He wiped his mouth slowly as he got closer to me. "Oh, I’m sorry, am I boring you?” he said in a threatening voice. I looked up at him with an unbothered expression. "Nah, carry on, though,” I responded to him in a nonchalant tone. He started getting closer and closer to me, and my body started to tense up. I stood up straight as I kept eye contact with him, not giving him any satisfaction, but all he could do was give me a grim smirk. He chuckled. "So... you think this is funny, huh?"
I took a step towards him and looked up at him with a blissful smirk growing on my face. "Yeah, I actually do.” I paused. "Rio, right?"
I could see the anger on his face grow heavier by the minute when those words spilled out of my mouth. However, all he could do was laugh. He backed away from me, turning his back away from all four of us. “So you bitches think it's some kind of joke, huh?"
"No, we don't,” Beth said in a sharp yet anxious manner, looking at me with a scared look on her face.
I shrug my shoulders. “I think it’s fucking hilarious,” as the crack of my heels echoed through the house as I took my first step on the cold, hickory floor towards him, catching Rio's attention. He turned around in a swift motion as his cold, hard eyes caressed over my body. I stand closer to him as my chest brushes over his, feeling his body heat bounce off him and onto mine. Rio hovers over me and chuckles softly, breaking eye contact with me for a minute.
He looked back at me with a deceiving smirk on his face. “You got a lot of balls, ma; I like it.” He said it in a husky voice as he walked away from me and right out the door with everyone he brought
with him. I look over at him walking out with a smile painted on my face, amused by him even though it's a bad thing to feel like that but I did.
A months later:
Working with Rio has its ups and downs, but I’ve been through worse. My girls have been struggling with keeping up with the lies and guilt, especially my sister Ruby. All we're doing is spending fake money and turning it into real money, and I don’t know what's hard about that. They can’t keep up with any of this because of all the mistakes they're making, and I can't tell them because I don’t want them to know what I did in the past. Anyway, we almost got caught two times already, and it's kind of painful to watch, but I’m doing this for my girls and giving them what they need. It's not like I need the money I’m set for the rest of my life, but I know they don't, so I'd rather help them more than I ever did. They make their mistakes, and they’ll all move on from them, but this mistake was stupid as fuck even for them. And it's not even Ruby or Annie's fault; it's Beth's fault because she lets her emotions get the best of her. It’s been like that since I was a kid, and it’s not like the task was hard. It was just delivering trucks to a warehouse; however, Beth got pulled over, but she discovered that there was nothing in there, and the cop let her go. After that, she went to Rio, pissed him off, and threw the keys at his face. “What we had here is done; go home,” Rio said in a calm voice.
Now? I’m the one who has to get them out of it. We're in the kitchen as they tell me about the little plan they have for me.
“Please Val.” Ruby said it in an anxious voice. “You're the only one he has feelings for,” she announced quietly.
My eyes widened, and I looked up at Ruby, annoyed at what she just said. I lean against the counter, rolling my eyes. “The feels, Ruby, are you fucking kidding me?”
Annie sighs as her eyes furrow in worry. “I mean..." she says slowly as she anxiously plays with the sleeve of her shirt.
I turn my head towards her, letting out a soft chuckle. “So you guys all think that he..." They all slowly nodded their heads simultaneously, and I just looked at them in disbelief. I let out a frustrated sigh as they just all looked at me like lost puppies. “All you have to do is ask him to get us back in the loop; that's it." Beth announced softly, but all I could do was look at them with a dumbfounded look on my face. "Please,” Ruby begged. I looked into my sister's saddened eyes and sighed, "Fine, I’ll do it for god's sake, but if I get killed, I'm going to be pissed." They all had an innocent smile on their faces, and all I can do is roll my eyes at them.
Two days later:I stepped out of Beth's house, slamming the front door as I walked down her driveway towards a black Range Rover. I wore black jeans and a black fitted long-sleeve shirt. My black stilettos clacked against the rocky sidewalk as the illuminating car drew me closer to it, sending a bitter chill down my spine. A dash of excitement hit my body when I pulled the hasty black door handle, revealing Rio gazing over my body, looking up and down at me. I felt his strong pair of eyes still caressing my body after I got in the car
with him. I liked the feeling of him admiring me, but I’m here for business only. Rio lets out a soft chuckle, and being coy, he says, “You look so good today. Is this all for me, baby? Aww, you shouldn't have."
I roll my eyes and look at him with a judgmental glare. "Nah, I wore this for me, Rio. Now please drive. I said as I turned my head away from him, looking out the window. I can still feel his eyes admiring me, but I didn’t pay any attention to him. He drove off after.
Tell Tale Signs
Tumblr media
MINORS DNI +18 Only
“Is daddy gonna make it?” Isabella your daughter asked as she watched you put on your makeup
“Yes he is baby”
She looks down at her tablet “There’s only 1 hour left”
“Do you want to call him?” you ask not wanting to be pestered until Rio finally made it home
“YAH!” She nods excitedly
You hand your phone to her letting her take the lead. She puts in the code and proceeds to call him via facetime.
“Y/N” He called your name this being the first time you called him in 2 weeks he was hoping you were waving the white flag.
“DADDY!”
“Ah princessa how are you baby girl?”
“Daddy where are you?”
“I’m on the way see?” He shows the cars passing by on the highway
“HI UNCLE NICK!” she greets Nick who was driving
“HI ISABELLA!” he greets with the same enthusiasm
“Daddy it’s getting late and we have reservations at 6:00”
Rio chuckles “I know princessa, I’m right around the corner I’ll be there in 15 minutes I promise”
“Okay” Isabella beams happy with his response “You wanna talk to mommy?”
“Let's let daddy and Uncle Nick drive okay? Drive safe see you when you get here” you say dryly before hanging up the phone. You didn’t want to hear what he had to say; he just needed to be on time.
“Go check on your brother tell him daddy will be here in 15 minutes”
“Okay!”
You chuckle to yourself as you watch her skip out the room.
Keeping true to his word, he arrived in 15 minutes you had already put out the clothes he was going to wear. Nothing was said between you two when he arrived he simply stripped out of his normal jeans and tee attire and put on his formal clothes minus the tie. By the time he stepped out of the room you and the kids were in the car waiting.
“Daddy are we gonna make it in time?” Isabella asked just as he opened the door to get in
“Yes Bella(Her nickname)”
“Okay good!” Isabella had picked up her fathers neuroticism over timeliness so much so that she was prompting you to start getting ready 5 hours before you were to leave the house. You and Marcus being the ones who would often drag or be late.
The car ride is filled with Marcus and Isabella telling Rio about their week, when that died down and the kids retreated back to their phones/tablets Rio turned to look at you. No matter how angry he was at you, he still never ceased to be amazed at your beauty.
“Hanging up on me now?” He asked
You look up from your phone and at him you shrug and continue with your Sudoku game. Maybe if you remain silent it won’t fuel this battle you two had going on.
You two had gotten into it 2 weeks prior over the fact that you accused him of prioritzing his business more than his family. The only reason you said that was because he had been gone for a little over 3 weeks, and no matter how much you urged him to come home even for a day he would always say he couldn’t and he would be home soon. So as soon as he walked in your home the tension was so thick, it didn’t take 10 minutes before you two were going at each other. You accused him of putting his business first over you and the kids, he accused you of having such an expensive taste for clothes and shoes that if he didn’t ‘prioritize the business’ you guys would have been out of home and food in a month. And from there you two have been at odds. Him withdrawing from you and you doing the same. The tell tale signs when Rio is mad at you, is when he withdrew his words of love and affirmation, he treated you like a business partner straight to the point. ‘No hey mama, baby, reina, nena, straight Y/N.’ The tell tale signs when you are mad at him is when you withdraw your kisses, hugs, back scratches, cuddles, etc  but you were still willing to talk to him and say I love you even if he didn’t want to at the time.
Dinner goes well, the kids didn’t realize that you two hadn’t said more than 10 words to each from time you all left the house to your return back to the house.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Mommy can I watch minions?” Bella asked
“Yes babygirl, but after you gotta go to sleep”
“Awww” she pouts
“It’s late Bella it’s 8, it’s technically your bedtime now”
“Thanks” she smiles showing her toothless grin you kiss her on the forehead before you leave her room.
“But mommy”
You put your hand up and she stops  “You can watch minions but to sleep right after”
Rio and Marcus had retreated to the backyard where they were playing soccer. You look at them through the kitchen window and smile while you put the food away. Marcus had become so skilled he was now beating his dad at 1:1 games.
By the time their game was over you had gone to the basement to your entertainment room and put on a movie to watch. When you hear Rio walk down the basement steps your stomach knots up. You were hoping he had found something to entertain himself with, far away from you.
“I don’t even know, weird hard to follow” you comment refusing to look at him.
“What you watching?”
“Dune”
“Is it good?”
“Feet hurt?” He comments noticing you wiggle your feet back and forth under the blanket
He takes a seat on the other side of the sectional, “Mind if I rewind it?”
“No might help me understand what the fuck is going on”
He chuckles and picks up the remote. You offer some fruit off your fruit bowl before you get comfortable on your side of the sectional.
“A little” Louboutin's are definitely not made for walking
“Want me to rub them” he offers
“No I’m good” you shut him down immediately
“Y/N” You hear your name
He sucks his teeth. This is his way of extending the olive branch, plus he is reaching his limit of touch deprivation. You don’t even think to react to that as far as you were concerned, he hit below the belt. You would never shop till he ran out of money, you would never put your kids lively hood at risk over a fucking shoe or bag. In fact most of the time when you did go ‘shopping’ you left without anything, but since he was gone so much he wouldn’t know.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Hmm” You hum realizing you were asleep and had no interests in waking up
“Lets go to bed”
You clear your throat “I’m good here” you adjust slightly pulling the blanket higher to cover your arms
“Why’d I buy that big ass bed and expensive ass mattress if all you wanna do is sleep on the couch?” he complained because the past few days you were sleeping in the basement.
You hear him suck his teeth again, “you want me to carry you?” he asks getting ready to scoop you up
You open your eyes  “NO!” you turn to look at him, he now had a brow raised with a confused look “I mean, no” You pause “I’m good here thanks” it’s not that you didn’t want to but if he did carry you, you would have given in and you simply were willing to die on this hill that was fortified with evidence and facts. Rio had been prioritizing the business too much lately and it was affecting you and the kids.
You glare at him before speaking “I’ll pay you back then, first thing Monday morning your money will be in your account” you turn over “bout to nickel and dime me over every little thing” you mumble, not low enough though because he hears it
Rio scoffs in disbelief and looks away from you, turning his body away as you wiggle your way deeper into the cushions. When he turns back around without a second thought he lifts you from the couch.
“Christopher, I said I don’t want you to carry me! Put me down!” you complain as he starts walking “CHRISTOPHER PUT ME DOWN!” you demand this time hitting his back. A sharp gasp exits your lips from the stinging sensation you felt on your ass cheeks
“OW CHRISTOPHER!” Another slap this time you move your hands to cover them, thinking more slaps were coming your way
“Shut.the.fuck.up Y/N” he warns with a stern voice
You decide its best to do so until you aren't in a vulnerable position. You look at your house as he carries you to your bedroom, making mental notes to get batteries for the clock on the wall, and have the kids remove their excess shoes from the door.
When you make it to your room Christopher drops you on the king sized bed, hard enough to cause your body to bounce, before you could even react, he had grabbed your ankle roughly tagging you to the edge of the bed hovering over you, his hands holding your wrist against the bed.
You huff and puff as you look up at him “can you let me go?” his nostrils are still flaring, the vein on his forehead still present indicating he was pissed!
“Check your attitude” he speaks slowly
You roll your eyes “I don’t have an attitude, if you had just let me sle..”
He cuts you off “You know we need to talk!”
“Hey Marcus everything okay?” You ask as you straighten up, playing coy, this wasn’t the first or the last time Marcus and/or Isabella would interrupt something intimate so you both had enough practice to fool the kids that nothing of the sorts was happening.
“Okay say what you gotta say?” you ask curtly
“Y/N, I’m not doing this shi..” before he could finish there was a knock on the door, both of you turned to look at it  “Come in!” you yell causing Rio to shoot you a look, before getting away from you. The door opened and Marcus stood by it.
“Yes, I was wondering if it would be okay for me to get on the game dad”
Christopher looked at the clock “Yea its cool buddy, only an hour though its 11, if you’re not off by 12am I’m taking it from you for a week”
You had used Marcus’s interruption to your advantage and moved from the bed to the closet where you were beginning to undress and change into your night clothes.
“Yesss! Thanks dad good night love you both”
“Love you too!”
“Can I help you?” You ask as you glare at Christopher through the mirror
You huff and roll your eyes “Fine”
“We weren't done talking”
You remove your earrings “I have nothing to say to you”
He sucks his teeth again “So what? You want us to stay together and not talk to each other or touch each other”
You turn to face him “I’m not the one that was away for almost a month, you asking the wrong mother fucker” the next second your back hit the wall with a small thud, Rio had grabbed you by the arm when you were walking away from him. “OW WHAT THE FUCK CHRISTOPHER!” you were exaggerating he didn’t hurt you but he did startle you.
He pulls you close to him, so close you can smell the pineapple in his breath. Through a clenched jaw he reminds you “What your fucking mouth Y/N”
“No” he cuts you off again
“We gotta talk about this shit Y/N” he stresses
“I know that!”
“So why you avoiding it?”
“I’m not! You said what you had to say, I made the decision it’s best for me to look for a job, part time and th..”
You sigh “Christopher,”
You take a step back “No? What do you mean no?”
He releases your arm and steps back as well “You ain’t gotta do all-a-that”
“Y/N”
You throw up your arms “Well what do you want me to do? I’m funding my luxury habits, so I don’t get what the big deal is?”
“Okay” you respond dryly no need to go back and forth, the decision was already made, you sit down on the small bench in your shared closet
He rolls his shoulders back “I said no Y/N”
“Why?”
“You don’t need to that’s why”
You hated how everything just had to be his way. He had to be in control of everything. Even the kids picked up on it and sometimes would ask him permission to do things before even informing you, only telling you after the fact that ‘dad said no or yes’.
He looks at you for a bit before sitting down next to you glad that you went ahead and bought the bench even though he had protested against it “We need to collaborate here, lets both compromise mama” he speaks in a much more loving tone
You turn to look at him “What’s your compromise going to be? You won’t prioritze business? For how long? Like maybe 3-4 months then it’s back to business as usual? I don’t care if you ignore me, I don’t matter, I’m an adult. I am fine, but when you don’t come back for almost a month. The kids start asking questions about our relationship status and how they know kids whose parents aren’t together and..” you look up at the ceiling to stop the tears from slipping, you turn to look at him “Just think about the kids okay?” It wasn’t only the kids that were concerned about his whereabouts, you were too. You know this business, you know it comes with long days, nights, hours, you know that eventually it will be hard for him to resist temptation because a man is a man, is a man, no matter who the man is. So for him to be gone for so long with barely any communication from him had your mind racing through all types of scenarios. Maybe he’s dead and someone took his phone, maybe he was injured, maybe he was with another woman.
He dropped his head and looks back up at you reaching to wipe the single tear rolling down your face  “I’ll do better mama,” he promises
You offer a smile “Thanks that’s all I ask, and I won’t shop so much" you offer hoping this was the end of it and you two could move on
That caused Rio’s chest to tighten. He didn't want you to compromise that much, and you were right it had bothered him that there was a new box of Louboutin's, Gucci, Yves Saint Laurent, Jimmy Choos, or whatever luxury bag/shoe/jewelry was in the closet, every time he came back. He didn’t mind you having expensive taste but he wouldn’t lie at some point he was convinced you were gonna shop him into the ground.  But to sell the things that you liked, he wasn’t about to go for it.
He looks “Nah you ain’t gotta do that”
“You said it cause it bothered you or you wouldn’t have said it at all, really it’s okay Christopher, I’m running out of space anyway” you look around your closet “Might sell a few things also”
He nods as he looks around a slight chuckle leaving his lips as he notices you were starting to encroach on his side of the closet. He turns to look at you and you smile at him.
“Nah don’t do that either”
You sigh, he was now making things complicated “I honestly don’t mind there are shoes in here that I haven’t worn or hate now so I can just sell them, no big deal” you shrug
“Okay I’m gonna remove my makeup” You announce before getting up and walking to the bathroom.
“Are we okay now?”
He nods a smile spreading across his lips “yea we good”
Rio had followed behind and undressed, heading straight to the shower since he had no time to freshen up.
You absentmindedly complete your skin care routine humming a song you heard on the radio. By the time you were finishing up, so was Rio that man never took long showers.
“Mmm look at you” he comments as he comes up behind you with a towel around his waist pulling you closer so you were flush against his already semi hard dick.
“Look at me, look at you!” You flirt as you look at him from the mirror. Water dripping down his chest, down to his abs, then to his v-line, his dick causing the towel to stretch.
“I missed you reina”
“Missed you too” you say softly as you watch his hands meticulously glide down your thighs, a grab here a grab there, Rio pulled you even more flush against him releasing a deep moan from the sensation.  His hands start to inch their way up grabbing at your breasts, Rio rocking his hips into you before he slipped his hands under your tank top. You watch as he dips his head by your collar bone, heavy breathes in your ear, inhaling taking in your scent before he starts to give you wet kisses on the neck traveling from side to side, sometimes pausing to lick and bite down before moving to the next spot. You watch as he pushes your underwear down your thighs, you complete the rest of the task and shimmy off of them, you watch as he pushes the tank top up pulling it off of your body, leaving you naked. He takes a step back and hits your ass one time before resuming position, this time minus the towel. You watch as he caresses your body he’s so caught up in what he’s doing he doesn’t know he has an audience. Hell you didn’t even notice how turned on you were getting until his hand dipped between your thighs and grazed over your sensitive clit almost making you collapse. You whimper as he proceeds and a grunt comes from him as he feels just how slick you are.
“Gotta lot of making up to do mi reina”
You whine as he applies more pressure that was enough for him to look up and see you biting your lip scratching at his arms. You nod in agreement. That’s all he needed and with that he kept his word, the next day all those mental to-do lists that you had told yourself were simply not getting done. You spent the majority of the day on the couch or on the bed.
Can I get a sexy HC with Rio (in the car) if your requests are open xx
Tumblr media
He’s most definitely a hand on the inner thigh bf
He’s always got a firm grip
Mindlessly squeezing and caressing as he drives
Thumb stroking your skin lovingly
Usually that’s all
But after the beautiful date he’d taken you on tonight
Your favorite meal
Your favorite wine
Your favorite dessert
You didn’t feel like waiting until you got home
Especially with your panties, the ones he’d specifically asked you to wear under your dress, growing wet at his ministrations
Your hand is warm and soft as it rests on top of his
Fingers curling around his wrist to tug it a little further over
His head turns toward you instantly as he feels you press his hand against the fabric on your panties
Eyes playful yet dark
“What you doin’ mama? Hmm?”
“Nothing.”
He chuckles and lets you maneuver his hand until he finally feels good fingers brush the softness of your lips
He’s eager to rub your clit then, the skilled digits stroking and circling as his eyes scan for a place to pull over
But the whinier your sounds get
The tighter you squeeze his wrist
The more your pussy clamps down on nothing
And he doesn’t want to worry about having to leave quick or get caught
So he says fuck it and sinks his fingers into you
Foot heavy on the gas
That should settle you until he can get you home and rail you the way his perfect baby deserves
Dark clouds filled the evening sky as a drizzle fell against your windshield. Your thoughts were adrift as you fought to make a proper decision. There were only two choices. Accept the offer and hope for a positive outcome, or leave immediately. The loud vibration of your phone halted your decision-making. Sucking in a shaky breath, you accepted the call. It was your best friend. The word hello barely left your lips as she began firing off questions.
“Did you make it to your destination safely? Are you sure it’s smart to be around him right now? Should you trust him?”
You cut your friend off.
“Sis, calm down. Let me answer at least one of your questions.”
“Seriously though, Y/N. How did he find you?”
“He didn’t find me, per se. We’re just in the same state, city, and establishment. Ironic as it may seem.”
“That’s just a little too coincidental for my liking. Look, just be careful and keep your guard up dealing with him. Y/N, you’ve got enough shit going on. There’s no need to fan the flames. Your situation is bad enough. Accept his offer but keep your head on a swivel. Now, take your ass inside that building. Call me once you’ve settled for the night. Do you need money, sis?”
“How’d you know I’m sitting in the car? Yes, I’m good on cash. I withdrew half of our joint account before I left town. I should’ve emptied the account and made his damn pockets hurt.”
“It’s my job to know. You’re my best friend. I agree you should’ve drained that account, girl.”
You inhaled, attempting to calm your nerves, “alright. I’m going in. I’ll call you later with an update. Love you, sis.”
Even after ending the call, you spent a few more minutes in the driver's seat of your vehicle.
Oh, fuck this. Let me just see where it goes. It’s been years since I’ve been here. It wouldn’t hurt to accept the help of a familiar face.
Exiting the car, you enabled the lock as you walked towards the luxurious hotel lobby. Halfway across the threshold, you felt his presence to your left.
“I was starting to think you had changed your mind. It was as if I could see the thoughts racing through your pretty little head from the lobby window, sweetheart. I’m glad you decided to accept my assistance.”
“I’m not sure I’ve decided to do so. Listen, I appreciate the hotel recommendation, but don’t you think it’s odd, maybe even inappropriate?”
“Why’s that? Are you afraid that I’ll inform your husband of your whereabouts?”
“Cut the shit. Why are you being so helpful? What’s the real motive here?”
“Listen, believe it or not, we’re family. Just because you’re mad at Rio doesn’t mean I should just leave you out here all alone. I don’t plan on telling him I saw you. There are no plans to notify him of your location. I’m securing a place for you to stay because I wouldn’t feel right leaving you to sort everything out alone. I have no idea why you’ve left my dumbass cousin. The fact that you packed your bags and just left suggests it’s serious. I won’t pry. Tell me or don’t, but I will secure and pay for your entire stay here. No arguments.”
“If Christopher finds out you’re helping me stay away from him, he’ll explode. The two of you already have a strenuous relationship.”
“If he finds out. Then he’ll just have to get over it. I honestly don’t give a damn, darlin’.”
“What are you even doing in California, Nick?”
“I’m here on business.”
“What kind of business?”
“I’ll answer that once you explain why you left your husband. What exactly did my cousin do, sweetheart?”
Rolling your eyes at Nick, you walked over to the hotel clerk. She greeted you with a warm welcome, offering you help. Giving her your last name, she informed you that you were staying in the penthouse. About to object and ask for something smaller and less expensive, Nick interjected.
“It’s already been taken care of, cousin.”
Your head snapped in his direction with an incredulous expression.
“Are you out of your mind? No, on second thought, you're not paying for my stay here. I’m not letting you put me in a penthouse and allow people to think I’m your whore. Do you have any idea how that will look, Nick? Are you crazy? You must want Christopher to kill both of us. No wonder you two don’t get along. You love pushing his buttons. The whole damn family’s crazy.”
“Are you finished with your little tirade?”
“I see that you’re also a sarcastic asshole like Christopher.”
“Did you miss the point where I had no intentions of Rio finding out? Just take the room, and enjoy the luxury. I’m sure my cousin has been putting you up in the nicest of places since the day he laid eyes on you.”
“I’m starting to feel like you’re implying I’m a gold digger. Tread lightly. I’d hate to have to kick you in the nuts. Now do us both a solid and change the damn room. Be glad that I’m accepting your help, to begin with.”
“I think it’s best if you know something. I'm just as pushy and controlling as your old man, sweetheart. We both know I’m helping and paying, no matter what you say.”
“Switch. The. Damn. Room,” you growled.
“Fine. Jesus, you’re just as stubborn as your husband.”
“That offer to kick you in the balls still stands. Please stop tempting me.”
“I have a business meeting here at the hotel. I made arrangements for my associate to stay here for a few days. He’s a man of luxury. I’ll switch the rooms for the two of you.”
“Yes, do that, Nick.”
“I’ve got to admit I enjoy hearing you say my name.”
You had grown tired of his antics and landed a sharp jab on his chest.
“One more inappropriate comment and I’ll leave to figure things out myself. I don’t know what you think is happening between Christopher and me, but we are married.”
Not for long, but he doesn’t need to know that.
“Even if I were single, I wouldn’t give you a second glance, honey. Please do not fool yourself.”
“Why is that? Am I not rough enough around the edges, like your hubby?”
“You honestly want to know?’
Nick shrugged his shoulders as if to say, “sure, why not?”
“You’re overly arrogant, and your sense of entitlement is ridiculous.”
He started to interject, but you pressed on.
“I’m no fool, Nick. Deep down inside, you’re hoping that somehow, some way, Rio finds out. I see you. You’ve been sparring with my husband his entire life. You’ve spent your life trying to prove that you are the bigger, better man than Rio. What’s the difference between you two? Nick, you’ve spent your entire existence having everything handed to you. All while my husband did the heavy lifting, grunt work, and the bids. Or have you forgotten about that? Rio earned his empire. He got it out the mud. You just sat and watched, sticking your hand out to take a chunk when it was all said and done. While Rio can be arrogant, it’s warranted. He can talk his shit and back it up.”
Although I’m pissed to the highest level and treading the waters of divorce, I’ll be damned if he sits here and insults everything Rio has worked hard to accomplish.
“Do not flatter yourself. You’re nowhere near half the man my husband is.”
Even if he is a cheating ass bitch.
“Such a beautiful, passionate rebuttal, and yet you’re here. With me, might I add, after walking out on mi primo. Let’s just call a truce. I’ll try not to flirt with you, but I won’t lie and say my cousin doesn’t have good taste,” he teased.
I just insulted him, and he’s still thirsty. Lord, help me.
“For the love of God, Nick!”
“Okay, I’ll back off. Now let’s get you settled into your room, shall we? I’ll accompany you back to your car. Carry your bags up to your room,” he responded, throwing his hands up in surrender.
With squared shoulders, you lifted your chin into the air.
“That won’t be necessary. Don’t you have a meeting to get to?”
“Why do I feel you’re trying to get away from me? Are my good looks too much of a temptation for you?”
“Boy, stop! Don’t nobody want your shallow, overconfident, big-headed ass.”
“You’re so mean, mama.”
Did this motherfu-I know he didn’t just say that! Now he’s pushing it!
Moving closer, you crowded his space. The smirk dancing along the corners of his lips proved he knew the nickname he used was out of line and disrespectful. You looked around. Making sure he’d be the only one to hear what you had to say. Through clenched teeth, your words dripped with venom.
“So long as we both have breath in our bodies, don’t you ever make the mistake of calling me that again. Please do not get it confused or twisted. Rio did not marry a weak bitch. Call me that again. I’ll do Rio a solid and spray you full of bullets myself.”
“Aww, why not, sweetheart? Does it make you miss hubby?”
“Keep playing with me, Nick. It won’t be funny to you when I want to laugh too. I’m over this conversation. Thank you for the room. Now, leave me alone. Go make yourself someone else’s problem.”
“Fine. I’ll come by and check on you later, prima.”
“No, you will not. Goodbye, Nick.”
If Christopher finds out about this, he will lose the little sense he has left. Wait, why do I even care? It’s fuck him from here on out.
The suite turned out to be very spacious and elegant. Much better than the cramped room you had stayed in the night before. You trudge through the doorway of the bathroom, wrapped in a towel. It hadn’t taken long for you to unpack and settle in. Fresh out of a hot shower, you mope to the bed and fling yourself backward. Thoughts race through your head. You hadn’t taken the time to soak in everything. You were too busy trying to run from the situation at hand. Yes, there had been many crying sessions and stewing in anger. Now that you were in another state and settled, it hit you.
Did I just walk away from everything I’ve known for the last four years? The one person I trusted with my heart. My soul. He ripped it out and stepped on it. The audacity. The unmitigated gall to play with my love and emotions. Did he? Rio did that shit, right? How can he possibly have a reasonable explanation?
Just as the tears started to roll down your face, a call came through. You huffed, tapping the ignore button. Seconds later, it started again. The call went unanswered a second time, and a text came through.
It’s me. Please answer your phone.
The phone lit up once more. With a heavy sigh, you accepted the call.
“What do you want, Mick? I don’t want to talk to him, and he knows that.”
“Since you won’t communicate with him. I’m in charge of finding out if you’re okay. I’d personally like to know myself. You good boss lady?”
“Mentally and emotionally, we both know the answer is no. Physically? I’m breathing and somewhat eating. That’s the best I can give you. I appreciate you checking on me. As for your boss? He can go fuck himself. Goodbye, Mick.”
“Hold up, boss lady. I need to see it for myself.”
Mick sent a FaceTime request. With an irritated sigh, you angle the camera so he’d only see your face and a white wall. You begrudgingly accepted the call.
“See. Just fine.”
He frowned as he looked at your red puffy eyes.  Mick could tell you hadn’t been sleeping much.
“Yes, I’m aware my eyes are puffy. I’ll be fine. Bye, Mick.”
Mick was about to plead with you to come home, but his face vanished from the screen. Your eyes sparked with resentment and anger as Rio appeared.
“Mama…”
“What part of I don’t want to speak to you don’t you comprehend,” you spat.
“Can you just fuckin’ listen to me?”
“You suddenly have so much to say! That’s because you no longer have me sitting at home. I’m no longer playing my role as your stupid little unsuspecting wife. No, not anymore. Stay the fuck away from me. Don’t call, don’t text me. Tell your boys to stop looking for me. There is nothing we need to discuss!” “Oh, I’ma keep calling and texting. Please, believe me. Mama, I will find you. You’re coming home; we gon’ work this shit out. Just let me explain everything. You’ll feel silly when it’s all said and done, darlin’.”
He looked at you with anger written on his face as his jaw flexed.
“Ma-.”
You ended the FaceTime, not giving him another moment of your time.
Rio stood there, rage coursing through his body. He gripped the phone in his hand tightly, “Fuck!”
“Anything I can do,” Mick questioned.
Rio took a deep breath, exhaling slowly. He handed Mick his phone.
“Let’s take a ride. Red better have a plan. If I don’t get my wife back soon, it’s game over for her.”
“You think she’s the reason behind this?”
“It doesn’t appear that she knows what’s going on. We both know that her innocent deer-in-headlights expression can sometimes be a facade.”
“You’re right about that.”
“We have to find her. I have to fix this. Real shit, man, I need her. I love that stubborn ass woman.”
“Then let’s handle business and get her back.”
Still reeling from the conversation, you tossed your phone across the bed. Everything was just too much. You were overflowing with anger, sadness, and grief. The betrayal of it all had you drowning. A sorrowful cry spilled from your lips as you curled into a ball. You remained in that position, cradling your face until sleep consumed you.
Hours later, your eyes fluttered open. The sun had set, and your room darkened from nightfall. Your feet flung off the side of the bed as a headache throbbed in your temples. The rumbles coming from your stomach echoed throughout the room.
I haven’t had shit since this morning. This stupid ass man got me going through it. I need a damn drink.
You called the front desk to ask if room service was still available. To your surprise, the clerk recommended the hotel restaurant. She explained that both tables and bar space were available. You thanked her for the recommendation as you dug through your wardrobe.
Let me at least look presentable. I can’t be walking around this nice hotel looking bummy. If I play my cards right, I may find my next husband. Nope, scratch that. Fuck these cheating ass men.
Rio sat slumped in the passenger seat with Mick at the wheel. Leaning back on the headrest with his hood pulled up. Rio sat there as his mind kept going over everything. They pulled into the park, waiting for dingbat and her crew. Once they were in sight, Rio gave his boy a nod. Mick exited the car, exchanging duffle bags with Beth. She told him she would have the next one ready at the appointed time.
“Did you find a way to handle the situation we discussed the other day?”
Beth shook her head with pleading eyes. She promised to find a way to get to the bottom of it. Mick nodded in reply. As she started to leave, Mick halted everyone’s movements.
“Backseat now. We’re going for a ride.”
With a frightened look, Beth started walking toward the vehicle. Mick stopped her again.
“Not you. I’m talking to you half pint,” Mick ordered, pointing at Annie.
Annie’s eyes stretched wide as the three women gawked at him. With a devious smile, he taunted, “don’t worry, I’ll take real good care of her.”
Beth walked over to the passenger window and pounded on it. She took two steps back when Rio rolled down his window. The look he gave stole the breath from her lungs.
“Is there a problem, darlin’,” his question dripped with danger.
“I told you I would get you answers. I-I just need a little more time.”
“That’s cool, but you may want to watch your nephew for little sister. His mama’s going to kick it with Mick for a bit. Got a little side hustle for her.”
“I can do it.”
“Did I ask you to?” Rio snapped.
“Please keep her safe,” she whimpered.
“Get me that information. Baby sister will come back better than she left. Stay safe, Elizabeth. We don’t want anything bad happening to the little mama to be right? It’s not very responsible of you to be downing liquor bottles, don’t you think,” Rio questioned in a knowing tone.
Elizabeth looked at him with fear in her eyes.
“I notice everything, darlin’. We’re going to take a ride tomorrow. Just the two of us. Check on the little bambino.”
He rolled up his window before she could say anything else. They sped off, leaving Beth to explain everything to Ruby.
Not wanting to turn too many heads, you settled on a simple black dress. You figured it was appropriate, given that it matched your mood. The form-fitting bodycon paired well with the dark red heeled sandals and lipstick you sported. Checking that the room key was inside your handbag, you exited the room.
The hostess gave you a warm greeting. She granted your request for a seat at the bar. As you claimed your spot, the gentleman behind the bar asked for your drink of choice. His eyes had roamed your body from the minute you sat down. It hadn’t gone unnoticed. Prepared to answer his question with disinterest, someone stepped up next to you. Strong hands braced against the top of the bar. A silky baritone sounded, making your breath hitch.
Are you serious? Who else am I going to run into? This day is beyond me. Maybe it’s not him. I have to be trip-.
“She’ll have a whiskey sour. That’s what she used to drink whenever a frown touched that beautiful face.”
Yes. That would be the one and only.
You turned your head slowly to take in the familiar voice. His face was as beautiful as you had remembered it.
“Hello, mi amor. May I join you? I could use a drink myself.”
Confusion and shock danced across your face. You looked back and forth between the thirsty bartender and your long-lost friend. His eyes connected with yours as that handsome smile crept across his face. He signaled for the bartender to go ahead with the order. Taking the seat next to you, he chuckled at your expression.
“It’s nice to see you after all these years, querida. What brought you back here? Last I checked, you were happily in love. Are you and the husband here on business?”
Hearing him mention Rio snapped you out of it.
“Miguel,” you whispered.
His eyes crinkled as he gave you another beaming smile.
“It’s good to see you again. How have you been? Are you enjoying married life? What’s it been a year or two since the I Do’s?”
The smile that had occupied your lips for a moment faltered. Your eyes started to water as you looked away and faced the bar. Miguel’s hand covered yours gently.
“What is it, sweetheart? Tell me what’s bothering you.”
Just as you were about to answer him, a familiar pain in your ass sounded off behind the two of you.
“Yes, prima. I’d like to know what’s going on as well. Most importantly, how do you know my associate here,” Nick questioned.
Nick waited for an answer as he sat there looking smug. A knowing look crept onto his face as if he had discovered a secret.
“How do you two know each-wait? Prima? You’re related to her husband?”
“What business are you two dealing in? Are you working with Rio, Miguel?”
Before he could answer, Nick answered for him.
“Relax, prima. It’s my business deal. Rio isn’t involved. We do have individual businesses. We butt heads too much to do everything together.”
“I wouldn’t do business with your husband without telling you, querida. Then there is the fact that we’ve never met in person. The meeting is my first encounter with your cousin. I’m sure you know Rio wouldn’t want to go into business with me.”
“And why is that? He used to tap that or something, prima? Maybe I should give Rio a call.”
“Are you interested in talking about business or not, Nick? That is the only thing that needs to be questioned or discussed,” Miguel responded in an aggravated tone.
“Hey, whatever you say, man. She knows I’m just teasing.”
“Then perhaps you should find someone else to aggravate. The lovely lady certainly doesn’t enjoy it. Is our table ready?”
“Yes,” Nick bit back.
“Then let’s get this over with. I do have other business to attend to. You have my attention for the next hour. We aren’t starting on a good note, wouldn’t you agree, Nick? You need to fix that. I assume the warehouse visit has been scheduled and prepped for tomorrow. Let’s make our way to our reserved table.”
“Right this way.”
Miguel’s hand gave your shoulder a light squeeze before he got up to follow Nick.
“I’m sure you still have Nestor’s number,” he asked, tilting his head toward his security/cousin.
“If you need anything, give me a call. It was a pleasure running into you, querida.”
You gave him a weak smile and nodded softly. Turning back to the bar, you downed the whiskey sour. Your fingers tapped the bar for another. The drink was halfway to your lips when Rio started blowing your phone up. With a deep sigh, you ignore it and turn your phone off.
“Bartender? Go ahead and bring me two more.”
The universe is funny as fuck. This man’s going to find me. I can just feel it.
You rubbed your temples as you contemplated where to go from here. One hour, four drinks later, you sat there wallowing in your pain. Thankfully you had made a conscious decision after the last drink to switch to a glass of red wine. Feeling buzzed, you decided it would be your last drink of the night. Taking your time with it, you nursed it for a while. Just as you had swirled the remaining liquid in its glass, Miguel reclaimed his seat from earlier.
“A penny for your thoughts, querida?”
Your eyes drifted from the stem of your wine glass to Miguel’s face. He noticed that you were slightly inebriated. His hand reached up and brushed your hair out of your face. The palm of his hand rested on your cheek.
“Don’t you have other meetings to get to?”
“I just wanted that smug asshole to hurry up and discuss the deal. The sooner we did that, the quicker your dear cousin would be gone,” he replied sarcastically.
“Hmm. Smug bastard, huh? That best describes his thick-headed ass,” you toast, downing the last of the wine.
“You shouldn’t be drinking at a bar by yourself, amor. I’ve watched half the men in here ogle you the entire time you’ve been here. Come. Nestor and I will escort you to your room.”
Miguel didn’t want to give you time to protest or continue drinking. He paid your tab and held his hand out. You stared at it for a moment.
“Though you’re wearing heels, those cute little legs still dangle from the stool. Come, sweetheart. I promise to be a respectable gentleman. I don’t make it a habit of approaching married women,” he chuckled.
Not giving it any more thought, your hand gently grasped as he helped you down. The elevator ride was quiet. That was until you blurted the one question that lingered in the back of your mind.
“Where’s your wife, Miguel?”
You noticed how his jaw ticked, nostrils flaring slightly.
“She had other plans tonight,” he answered.
Before you could ask him to elaborate, the elevator dinged.
“I do believe this is your floor.”
Miguel placed his hand on the small of your back. Nestor stepped aside, allowing you two to step out first. He asked for your hotel key as you walked down the hall. You turned the corner as you placed the key card in his hand.
“You said the first door on the left, right?”
“Ye-.”
You lost your train of thought as you started to panic. There was a large bouquet of yellow roses in front of your door.
“Shit.”
“What’s wrong, querida,” Miguel asked as he rubbed the small of your back.
The worry in your eyes set off alarm bells in his mind. Miguel took a look and noticed the flowers. The distress about possibly working with Rio. The teasing from Nick. He turned to face you, blocking the view of your door. His hand caressed your face.
“Tell me the truth. Are you in danger? Did you leave your husband, querida,” he whispered as he searched your eyes for the truth.
No longer able to keep the emotions bottled up, your lip trembled as the tears slipped down your face. You nodded slowly. Miguel frowned at the response. He pulled you into an embrace as you cried into his chest. His hands rubbed your back as he attempted to soothe you.
The two of you stayed that way for a few moments. Pulling back from his embrace, you wiped at your tears. Miguel’s hands slid up and down your arms.
“Did he hurt you,” he asked, jaw ticking again.
“Rio would never put hands on me. He-he.”
Unable to finish the sentence, a fresh set of tears spilled.
“Okay, okay. Shhh. I think I’m starting to understand. Come here.”
He embraced you again. Once he calmed you, Miguel escorted you to the door. He nodded at Nestor, signaling him to pick up the flowers. Unlocking your suite, he grabbed the flowers and followed you inside.
“Thanks for getting me here safely. Sorry, I just unloaded all my emotions on you like a crazy person.”
“It’s fine, querida. That’s what friends are for. We were close once. Lost time won’t affect that.”
His thumbs swept residual tears away. He bent to your feet and helped you out of your heels. Standing, he grabbed your hand and held it. His finger lifted your chin.
“Try and get some rest. Come deadbolt the door behind me.”
Following him to the door, you watched as he opened the suite door. Stepping into the hallway, he turned to speak with Nestor.
“Have one of the other men come and watch her door for the night. If it’s not me, no one gets in here. Don’t even let them knock. Watch the door until your replacement gets here.”
Nestor nodded in agreement taking his position in front of your door. Miguel turned to you, his hand running down your arm again.
“If you need me, I’m on the top floor. Just ask whoever is guarding the door to call me. Better yet, here. Call me if you need anything.”
Miguel handed you a card that had both his business and personal number.
“Okay,” you whispered.
“I’m serious.”
“I’ll be fine, Miguel. Rio’s just adamant about us staying together. He would never physically harm me.”
“You can’t blame him for wanting to work it out. Any man would be a fool not to fight for you. Still, if you need me, call me.”
“Yeah, because Emily would just love that. She’s never been fond of me.”
“Don’t worry about her. I’m the least of my wife’s worries at the moment.”
No longer wanting to discuss his personal life, Miguel pecked your forehead.
“Goodnight, Y/N.”
Locking the deadbolt behind him, you made your way to the bedroom. Stripping out of the tight dress, you bundled up in a complimentary robe. Falling into the couch, you turned your phone back on. Six texts and two voicemails. You rolled your eyes. Noticing the flowers, you mumbled to yourself, “fucking Nick probably snitched. Little shit.”
You snatched the card from the bouquet and flipped it over. Your breathing sped up as your mind started to race.
What the fuck? I don’t need this shit. What next?
Hands trembling, you re-read the card.
“I see hubby’s out of the picture. Who’s going to protect you now? What better way to kick Rio when he’s down? He would probably be beside himself if his precious jewel came up missing. Stay safe, pretty lady.”
To top it off, now I have to run from his ops too? You have to be shitting me!
Snatching the door open, Nestor saw the look of fright in your eyes.
“The flowers aren’t from my husband. I’m pretty sure whoever sent them just threatened me. Tell Miguel I appreciate everything he did tonight, but I’m getting the fuck out of here.”
Nestor talked you down. He instructed you to grab anything needed for the night and lock up. In less than twenty minutes, Nestor was escorting you to Miguel. He was anxiously waiting for your arrival. His hands instantly cradled your face.
“You’re staying with me for the night. We’ll figure out where you’ll go from here in the morning. Sleep in the bedroom. I’ll take the couch.”
“That’s nonsense. I can sleep on the couch.”
“No, you won’t. No arguments.”
“Why are most men in my life so damn bossy.”
“They also seem to have the same types of occupation. You don’t seem to like men who like legal work, querida.”
“Ha, ha. You’re so hilarious.”
“There’s nothing wrong with that. Those mentioned tend to be extremely successful at it,” Miguel replied with a shit-eating grin.
“Anyway.”
The conversation was interrupted by yet another call from Rio.
“Look, I'm going to have to answer him. I’ve been ignoring him for hours now. I know his veins are about to pop out of his neck.”
You excused yourself, taking the call in his bathroom.
“For someone who’s always so busy, you sure are blowing up my phone. Go back to ignoring me, please. I don’t have the energy to go back and forth with you, Rio. I’m tired and stressed out.”
“Just come home, mama. I’ll leave and stay somewhere else. Just come home,” he slurred.
“Are you at that stupid bar that demands your attention as well? Go home, Rio. Sleep off the liquor.”
“I gotta be near you, mama. Who's going to protect you? What if someone tries to harm you while you’re not with me? I can’t live with that shit. I need my wife to come home. Come on, mama.”
“It’s a little too late to protect me now. Isn’t it? Don’t worry about me, Rio. I can handle this shit myself,” you snapped, quickly regretting the last sentence.
“Handle what shit, mama,” he barked.
Fuck.
He instantly knew something was up.
“It’s okay, Rio. I’m a big girl. Luckily my stupid ass husband taught me how to use a gun. You know I stay strapped.”
“Either come home or tell me where the fuck you are. I’m going to light whatever city you’re in up. Better yet, I’m about to spray any suspected target.”
“Don’t be stupid. There is no need to start a war on my behalf.”
“I’m not going back and forth about this anymore. Tell me where you are.”
“No, goodbye, Rio.”
“Don’t fucking hang-.”
Miguel stood propped against the door frame.
“I know he fucked up, but it sounds like he wants to keep you out of harm’s way.”
“Don’t, Miguel.”
He placed his hands up in surrender.
“If he can’t do that for you, I will.”
Yeah, cause my husband would just love that. Jesus, be a therapist. I need Iyanla to come and fix my life, bruh.
Rio had been sitting in his bar for a few hours. Though the argument made him even more aggravated, he took your advice. He wasn’t in the mood to take a chance at catching a DUI. Rio instructed Mick to drive him home.
He swaggered into the family room and lounged on the couch. The house was painfully quiet without your presence. Rio’s thoughts drifted to you as his chest tightened at the thought of you being in danger. Sighing, he closed his eyes in an attempt to shake the negative thoughts. Your scent still lingered throughout the house. Nothing seemed to help him shake the memories and intrusive thoughts. His eyes fluttered open, nostrils flaring. Rio was trying to be patient with you, but it was starting to wear thin. You could be mad for however long, but divorce was out of the question. Could he do a better job at loving you? Yes, and he was willing to do so. Would you be willing to give him another chance?
Rio’s buzz had started to wear off. Blowing out a breath, he stared at a picture of you two. The frame on the console table contained a photo from your first anniversary. Shaking his head, he stood up and walked over to the bar cart. Throwing back another glass of brown liquor, he fixed one more and reclaimed his seat. He asked Alexa to play a specific song. The lyrics hit home as he nodded to the beat and recited them. Song Cry by Jay Z flowed through the entertainment system.
“They say you can’t turn a bad girl good, but once a good girl’s gone bad, she’s gone forever. Mourn forever. Shit, I gotta live with the fact I did you wrong forever.”
What happened to everybody deserves a second chance, mama? Damn, I miss my wife.
