Pond posted this story (translated by google on the right):
Ohm is this artist that Apo met 2 months ago:
Today Pond and Bible did a live with him on IG and he let them hear the demo of the soundtrack of Man Suang for the first time:
Ohm said that the demo is finished, but the music is not 100% complete because it requires a lot of musical instruments.
Bible said that it sounds very majestic. Pond said that it fits the city of Mansuang and many people's lives of that time. Ohm said that there will be a MV.
Apo talked about the Man Suang’s project for all fanartists (with eng subs):
Tong, Bas, Nodt and Pong went to the launch of SONG WAT GUIDEBOOK on June 16.
Song Wat is an area of Bangkok with a great historical value. The name "Song Wat" translates to "drawing by the king". In fact, it was built by King Rama V; the Siamese government wanted to expand the roads and public utilities to a wider area and King Rama V wrote the line of the area with a pencil on the map by himself (source).
The project of Man Suang x Song Wat is still unknown!
I haven’t seen anyone mention it here on Tumblr but interestingly enough, the writer for Playboyy is the same writer for Only Friends (and part of the writing team for Mansuang).
It’s going to be interesting what the audience reception is like for both series, since Playboyy has already seen quite a bit of pushback for being “porn” adjacent even before the first trailer was released and Only Friends’ reception has generally been a lot more positive. If what the writer says holds true, Playboyy is going to be delving into a lot of real topics that surround the gay community in Thailand. I think it’s important to note that the production team even worked with Rainbow Sky Association of Thailand.
My main worry with Only Friends is the turn around for this show. They only just wrapped a couple weeks ago and it’ll already be airing in two weeks. I’m hoping the editing of this show does the script justice because it seems to be a convoluted story. This happened with Never Let Me Go (which had a lot less characters), and though I personally loved that show, even I was aware of the choppy editing that was a result of the fast turnaround for the project.
Anyways, it’s definitely going to be a very ‘hot’ season, but more than that, I’m looking forward to the conversations that will start with both of them, especially since they’ll both be airing around the same time.
Standout performance for me was Tong as Hong. By the end of it his parts were the only ones that made me feel any real emotion.
Honestly, was kind of disappointed. The writing, directing, and editing were... not the greatest. Pace was all off and moments that should have been emotional fell flat. There were too many coincidences that got characters to discover information and characters trusted or told each other things without proper development or reasoning. A whole lot of telling instead of showing.
The premise of the missing document was weak and not engaging. As my one of screenwriting teachers said focus on the story not the business/paperwork and that document was definitely the later in this case. And by the end as they said, it didn’t matter anymore.
It's especially frustrating as this movie focused more on plot rather than character which is a huge reason this movie fell flat for me. All the actors did a really good job but the writing didn't give them the needed depth and relationship connections to make me feel anything. And when you add a convoluted plot to the mix it becomes tiresome to watch as you are trying to figure out what's happening and who is doing what but you don't really care because none of the characters feel like real people. I'm not one of those people that just because an actor I like is playing a part automatically means I like their character. Yeah no you have to give me a reason to and this movie didn't do that. (Though tbf that 2 second shot of Nodt playing the piano my beloved 🤩).
Again I want to say this is not a criticism of the actors!! They all did their jobs well. I can literally point out cases where it's the editing, direction, and writing that made emotional scenes fall flat for me. For example Khem crying while taking off his makeup... Apo did a great job but there were way too many quick cuts, the scene before where he gets berated is awkwardly slot in, and there was no time to breath to let that emotional scene play out. I should have been near tears but I felt nothing.
Also for a movie that did a lot of promotion on the Thai dance aspect... there wasn't really a lot of that 😕 tbh I felt more emotion out of that single behind the scenes long shot of Apo dancing we got awhile ago than any of the dance scenes in the movie. This movie really did not do the dance part justice.
"I love dancing. Every time I dance, I feel an elegant aura exuding from me. I feel proud of myself. But no matter how good I am, how much hard work I put in, all people want from me is just my body. My pretty outer shell. That's it."
On the 1st of August, Mile (and some other actors) were in the studio to edit some of the characters’ voices !
