Renowned Cryptographer Spreading Misguiding Information on Biometrics?

What if generative AI destroys biometric security? https://www.economist.com/biometrics-pod

Biometrics, which is probabilistic by nature, could not have provided any significant identity security in the first place, meaning that biometrics did not have to wait for the arrival of AI to get its security destroyed.

The content of this podcast from The Economist taught us the following -

None of the cast members including the world-famous cryptographer, whose name I don’t dare to name here, apparently show any interest in the fundamental difference between ‘individual identification’ and ‘identity authentication’. That is, they sound as if what satisfies the requirements of ‘identification’ should satisfy those of ‘authentication’, and vice versa.

None of them seem to be conscious of the probabilistic nature of biometrics, which inevitably brings the problem of the trade-off between false acceptance and false rejection, which eventually leads to its destructive security effect.

None of them appear to be awake to the completely opposite security effects of biometrics deployed with another authenticator in a 2-layer/in-series formation and a 2-entrance/in-parallel formation.

None of them express any serious concerns about the microchip implant for ‘authentication’ with respect to the peril of erosion of the values of democracy by ‘volition-less login’. This kind of issue has probably never come in their sight.

I have written to The Economist and other leading biz/tech media manyl times about the perils of relying on biometrics for identity security but given no response at all. It may well be that the media’s tech reporters have been powerfully brainwashed by the influential people who carry the halo of authoritativeness.

A message posted a few days ago could help unravel this chaotic situation, further confused and messed up by the presence of an authoritative cryptographer — “Another Biometrics Fuss” https://www.linkedin.com/posts/hitoshikokumai_ftc-policy-statement-on-biometrc-information-activity-7068861992039559168-PvNj

It is not that AI is creating a new vulnerability on biometrics, but that AI is assisting bad guys to take advantage of the existing vulnerabilities on a larger scale.
