So does this mean GOLB is a Catalyst Comet Reincarnation? Or does he create them?

We know the catalyst comets appear every 1000 years to "shake things up a bit" as Finn puts it in Hot Diggity Doom.

Which can be interpreted as a form of Chaos, they exist to avoid stagnation and embody certain aspects of the universe, like Finn embodies good while the Lich embodies evil, and presumably Jake embodies creativity.

We know The Lich is the "Last scholar of GOLB" which implies he's somehow related to GOLB. This last episode's ending only reinforces this conexion.

But... What would it mean for the catalyst comets to be created by GOLB?

Well, firstly, it would mean that our understanding of GOLB...

Has been wrong this whole time.

Before, we used to think GOLB was this monster/demon that existed just to bring Chaos, or a fundamental entity that brings Chaos and devour worlds for a greater purpose of balance. But it seems like his influence, if this theory is right, is even greater than we thought.

We have almost no knowledge on the catalyst comets or GOLB, but it's interesting that they decided to mix the comet's staple appereance with GOLB's, implying a connection.

Golb as a reincarnation of a catalyst comet has some evidence, as well

GOLB seems to have a big connection to Mars without having been created there, as his first Era of Chaos is referred to as "The First Coming of GOLB."

You might say "But it's Earth where the comets land, not Mars," but I raise you the fact that Earth is really close by and the first place GOLB would be able to cause Chaos in besides Earth is Mars.

It seems like they don't have any proof that he's coming back, so it's strange that he even came at all in the first place. So it's probable that Earth and Mars were the first places where GOLB caused Chaos and destruction.

Mars and Earth in general are really connected, with Mars sending food to Earth, Abraham Lincoln was the former King of Mars, and Moe was heavily involved with constructing the Domes of Mars and the technology.

In any case, most of this is probably wrong, and we will find out a lot more about GOLB next week anyway, but I wanted to share my deliriums still.

ive seen some ppl talk about seeing an alternate universe Betty, but I highly doubt that would happen. Remember what happen to Margles? Once she got eaten by Golb, EVERY version of her ceased to exist. Magic Man looked for her everywhere but couldnt find her.

So this might apply to Betty too, unless if merging with Golb did something else

Scholars of GOLB AU

Margles and Magic Man

Since they parallel Betty and Simon, kind of the same relationship with some differences.

It was all bliss before GOLB came and attacked Mars.

Instead of Margles dying, Magic Man sacrificed himself for her and got digested.

She also saw it happened and that caused her Sadness and Madness.

After he was erased, Grob Gob Glob Grob fear that GOLB could return and Margles volunteers herself and practiced magic.

But instead of making a defense system, she used her powers to try and bring him back because she feelt like she could have done something to prevent his death.

Each failed experiment worsened her mental state and it began to affect the state of the planet.

The King of Mars had no choice but to banish her to Ooo so that she could learn to let it go.

Instead of doing that, she travelled around the world in search for a way.

Not as mischievous and cruel, but she is dangerous if you get in her way.

After getting her sanity back, she begins to heal and come back to Mars since it needed a ruler.

Simon and Betty

Same backstory in canon.

But Simon puts the crown Betty as a joke and gets frozen when he tried taking it off her.

When Betty came to, she couldn't find him and started looking for him.

She finds Marcy during the war and takes her in as her kid.

Betty doesn't use the crown often, but whenever she used it, she always had Marcy and Simon in her head to keep her sane.

She slowly succumbs to the crown and becomes the queen of the ice kingdom but still kept in touch with Marceline, even if she's slowly forgetting her.

But once the crown was drained from it's magic, Simon was free and meets Finn and Jake, who take him to the Ice Kingdom where Betty was slowly dying and Marceline taking care of her.

He and Betty reunite.

While he was frozen, he thought about his relationship with herr and realized that she always gave so much and he barely did anything.

Then he promised to cure her while Betty doesn't want him in danger.

When the crown's power came back, Simon took his time and searched his available options.

He tried fixing the crown but after seeing it was hurting her, he decided to fix her using outside forces.

Scholars of GOLB

Both are the main POV at this point.

Simon disappeared for a while after so many failed attempts, but came back helping Margles to get to GOLB.

He met Margles while he was travelling.

They decide to work together and researched about GOLB.

Margles told him that it had the power to decompose anything to it's essential form based on her without any reprocussions.

She bend the truth to get him to agree because there was a possibility to harness it's power and get Magic Man back.

He was already desperate enough so he agreed.

They needed to go into her memories so they could find more info about GOLB but Simon finds out about her true intentions and deems it dangerous to even get into contact with it.

It plays like You Forgot Your Floaties.

He was about to let his plan go and let go of Betty but Margles stops him, reliving the trauma of losing her husband again.

But there was a mishap as all of Margles' unhinged desperation and magic was transferred to him and he finally broke, laughing as he transported away with his research.

Margles' gave up on the research, finally getting some peace.

Does that mean Magic Man's wife has the Ice crown (and that Mars is frozen?)

Ooh! I hadn’t thought of what to do about the Ice Crown in this au yet but anon that is such a cool cool idea (pun intended)!

Yknow what i really wish we got in adventure time? I wish we got to see what Margles was like. We barely knew what she was like or how she and Magic Man met. Maybe something like an extended flashback sequence from Magic Man or hell even something from the comics would suffice. She and Betty parallel each other so Much and I wish we saw what she was like.....

Since M.A.R.G.L.E.S. Was created from Magic Man’s nightmares, do you think her other form (with the snakes, the fire, the horns/helmet, etc) was based around how the original died/was erased.

The defence system looks like Margles because she (or rather her death) is what Magic Man saw in his nightmares so it stands to reason that her defence form’s physical appearance comes from some facet of those nightmares too (like maybe one of Golb’s monsters looked something like that).

betty was always so obsessed with simon it's insane. she met this guy literally ONE time at a library and immediately dropped everything in her life, including a six-month long expedition she had really been looking forward to, just to be with him. she really was never ever well (affectionate)
