The Ice King is so funny to me because they were just like "Oh hey a fun silly ineffectual villain!! How cute how drole! Let's get the Spongebob guy to play him" then a few years down the line it's like "Okay Tom time for your most emotionally gruelling performance ever"

The one thing that kind of throws me about Fionna and Cake is that Simon is the only central character who's obviously doing Cartoon Voice. It's not just because of who his voice actor is, either – like, we know Tom Kenny can do serious, we've seen him do it, but Simon already has an established vocal characterisation from his history as a comedy relief villain, and that's what the show has to work with. Every other character with top billing sounds kind of like a regular person, and then there's Simon going around sounding like a depressed, middle-aged SpongeBob coming to grips with the fact that he's never going to get back together with Patrick – and I'm 100% aware that this isn't a complaint that's going to be relatable to anyone following this blog, because people on this site would love to watch a show about a depressed, middle-aged SpongeBob.

Absolutely insane of Adventure Time to make Tom Kenny play not one but TWO characters that went insane by magic who later turn normal and spend their time making up for the actions of the person they were when they were infected by the magic and have wives that were taken by Golb and are never coming back.

"Tom Kenny is a good voice actor" isn't exactly a topic of much debate but MAN Simon's voice is incredible. There's enough to distinguish it from the Ice King while it still sounds like they have the same body, and Simon's voice conveys all of his misery, confusion, hope and love. As well known as Tom Kenny's characters are, I feel we don't appreciate him enough for the incredible voice acting work he does.
