A Quebec fashion designer and his partner say they were victims of a homophobic attack after they were allegedly beaten outside a bar in the province's Charlevoix region.

Markantoine Lynch-Boisvert says he and Alex James Taboureau were leaving a bar in La Malbaie late Friday night when a man began directing homophobic insults their way.

He said they tried to leave but were confronted and later pursued by the man, who allegedly headbutted Lynch-Boisvert in the face while two of his friends attacked his partner.

Quebec provincial police confirm they responded to a call in La Malbaie Friday night and have opened an investigation into the incident.

Lynch-Boisvert says his injuries include three facial fractures, while Taboureau is recovering from bruising and a minor concussion.

Canada : un designer et son conjoint agressés

Le designer Markantoine Lynch-Boisvert et son conjoint Alex James Taboureau ont été victimes d’une agression dans la nuit de vendredi à samedi à La Malbaie, une ville située dans la municipalité régionale de comté de Charlevoix-Est, dans la région administrative de la Capitale-Nationale, au Québec, alors qu’ils y célébraient le lancement de la première capsule du jeune créateur chez Simons, une entreprise québécoise de vêtements et d'articles de décoration pour la maison. Le couple a affirmé qu’il s’agit d’une attaque à caractère homophobe. Le designer, originaire de la Mauricie, a publié une photo de son visage tuméfié sur Facebook et raconté que son «week-end à Charlevoix [a tourné] au cauchemar» quand quelqu’un a lancé: «esti de fif». Markantoine et son fiancé auraient ensuite été battus par «trois hommes, [qui] les ont poursuivis dans la rue pour les frapper«, a indiqué M. Taboureau à Radio-Canada. «J’entend encore un des gars qui dit “arrête tu vas le tuer” à celui qui me bottait le visage librement, Alex qui se débattait pour essayer de m’aider, la peur dans ses yeux», a-t-il témoigné sur le média social. La mère de Markantoine, Chantal Lynch, a confirmé au Devoir que «ce dernier aurait subi une commotion cérébrale et de multiples fractures au visage». Il devait être opéré hier soir «au visage (...) dans un centre hospitalier de Québec. «Ça a été un très gros traumatisme», a confié son compagnon Alex Tourangeau à Radio-Canada. La Sûreté du Québec aurait ouvert une enquête après que l’une des victimes a officiellement porté plainte. Des témoins seront rencontrés, a indiqué le porte-parole Louis-Philippe Bibeau.
