One of the most exhilarating treks in the Ladakh region, Markha Valley happens to be the largest valley in the region. Kashmir is undoubtedly the heaven on the earth and is one of the most sought tourist places in North India. Leh tops the list of most desired adventure hubs which is quite popular for its arid and raw thrills and the gateway to the burned-out trails.

“The beauty of the world lies in the diversity of its people” . . I guess my journey around the world totally changed the day I realised that what claims the most of my attention are not beautiful beaches or incredible temples, but the people around those places. . . And the people who lives in the mountains of north of India? These people are PURE BEAUTY...! Markha Valley
Tumblr media
The Markha Valley Trek is one of the most popular treks in Ladakh, and for good reason too. There are incredible sights and surreal rock formations, timeless villages, snowy mountains and delightful Buddhist gompas. The Markha Valley trek is by no means an easy one, there are two passes of 4900 m or higher to negotiate, coupled with a possibility of snowfall in the higher reaches, even when the passes are trekkable. The beautiful Markha Valley runs parallel with the Indus on the far southern side of the snowy Stok Kangri massif. The trek passes through cultivated valley floors, undulating high-altitude grasslands and snow-prone passes; it is a trekkers delight for it affords a glimpse into the Ladakhi past with most of it at altitudes of less than 4000 m. Wedged between the Stok Kangri range to the north and the Zanskar peaks to the south, the Markha valley is an absolute beauty. It is also known for being a ‘tea house trek’ where one can expect accommodation in parachute tents or home stays at most of the village’s en-route. It is possible for a reasonably fit solo trekker to complete the trek without a porter and a guide, and usually there is little need to carry food or cooking utensils. To good period to visit the Markha Valley trek is  June to September although July and August are widely known to be the best months.

Crossing the Markha River while trekking from Camp Hamurjah to Camp Hankar via a tea stop at Umlung. If you are crossing this kind of bridge alone than please don't act over smart by taking Selfie etc. As we have met a couple there where the boy fell down in to the water and lost his camera lenses. #incredible_india #adventure #MarkhaValley #happiness #mountains #himalaya #explore #guiding #adrenaline #trekking #fitness #roughadventure #happyhippie #lifeisajourney #gorgeous #blue_sky #highaltitude (at Hemis National Park)

An engineer who quit his job (which he was doing for 4 years) to pursue his passion for outdoor activities – that is Ankit Naithani for you! After quitting his job, he joined Indiahikes and became a trek guide. Over these years, Ankit has done a lot of trekking, both individually and as a trek guide. The interesting fact with human beings is that they always wanted to try more. Ankit was no different. He wanted to graduate himself from trekking to mountaineering! So, he quit from Indiahikes in 2016 February to pursue his bucket list. Before becoming a mountaineer, he decided to test himself by climbing a challenging mountain in Alpine Style – solo, unsupported and independent – to prove to himself that he is capable. He did some research on the climbable mountains, and Kang Yatse 2 came into the picture.
The majestic looking Kang Yatze is the most prominent peak in the Markha Valley in the Himalayas. It can be approached through the Makha Valley from either side. It has 2 summits and resembles a King’s Throne. The Western summit, Kangyatse 2 is lower at 6250m and is quite often climbed, Read more about this story: WoovlyBucketlist

We just came back from the #markhavalley #trek and I have to say it was one of the most memorable #experiences of my life! After 5 days, 84.3km, 3255 alttitude gain and 32 hours and 32 minutes, we are back to internet, electricity, tap water and everything else that we call "civilization". The aim was Gongmaru La #mountainpass in the Himalayas which officially is at 5130m but all our 3 #altimeter watches registered 5260m alttitude which was confirmed later by some local guides. I am proud of my team as nobody had any #altitudesickness! We've tried to do everything by the book, we carried suplimentary oxygen for emergency situations, I planned and studied the route many times in advance and I really wanted to do this on our own with no local guide. We've acclimatized well, drank a lot of water, had plenty of alttitudine sickness pills and quite a big and complete first aid kit. Bought a detailed map of the region and carried good power banks with us. The gear list was prepared many months in advance and it paid off. The mountains (at these heights) have no mercy and you can never prepare 100% but you can reduce the risks that depend on you as much as possible and that's what we tried to do. The arhitect (@holy_snitzel ), the IT consultant (@bogdancucos ),the graphic designer (@ovidiuronin ), the photographer (@andrei.ciungu )the yoga teacher (@deilephila )and the crazy (@denisblidariu )went on this incredible adventure and with some (obvious) exceptions everything went well and I am very very proud of this amazing Let's Trip team! Thank you guys! Crying, laughing, freezing, hiking, screaming, sleeping at -15 C degrees, meeting all those local people that deeply touched us with their stories and their life attitudes, waking up at 06:00 to catch the morning prayer with the Buddhist monks in remote monasteries at 4000m, packing and unpacking while tired, dirty and cold, riding old cars at the very edge of the cliffs while the heart was pumping hard, all those blisters and dried lips, and all the other emotions that cannot be described here were unique and they will stay with me and deep in my heart for a lifetime! Julley! (at Ladakh, India) https://www.instagram.com/p/BpPRgB0nj5R/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1qlywqt7sk2am
