Bingeing, microdosed: Wielka woda (High Water, created by Jan Holoubek, 2022)
A gripping real-life story of the flood in the late 1990s Poland, anchored by a charismatic lead, my favorite scene-stealer in Rojst 97, Zulewska, who is electrifying any time she's on screen. While in the last two episodes, the focus shifts to the natural (though man-propelled) disaster, filmed with the amount of space the series needs to pack a punch, it is primarily a story of ennerving bureaucracy, populated by ego-driven, expertise-lacking toxic cis-hets, against whom Zulewska's lead, similarly to Rozczka in Rojst 97, is posited as the polar opposite. The scenes where her character vents her frustration, so deliciously, offer momentary relief.

I finished Ultraviolet season two this week
(the Polish crime drama on Netflix, not the vampire movie or whatever with Milla Jovovich)
and I have been screaming internally (and on some occasions externally) since about the middle of the second episode of the season (definitely the screaming was external by the END of that cursed episode) and am still left with questions like
1) what the fuck?
2) what the ACTUAL FUCK, ALL OF IT?
3) can Dorota at some point snap and poison one of the sleazy men she and Regina flirt information out of please, Karolina Chapko has such an epic death stare?
please she clearly wants to kill a man, let her
4) you left a Netflix Original Series on a CLIFFHANGER?! like THAT?! WHY?!
5) can I have at LEAST a confirmation of season three fairly imminently thanks
bonus:
okay fine I ship Kuba and Ola but I also like Kuba’s girlfriend Ewa, can we have a throuple
also every time Kuba called her Olka instead of Ola I cried because oh my god a cute nickname when she already goes by a nickname, kill me
anyway I need people to scream with and I have no one please can someone come yell with me about this weirdo bunch of delightful amateur detectives making life difficult for the police in Łódź?!
this has been me for basically the whole season

ultraviolet (2017) is about a group of people in poland who solve crimes that the police either don’t want to or can’t
and it’s cute and fun and FUCKING DARK and heartwarming and sad
and all the young people are beautiful and complex and care about each other and i have a lot of feelings
