Mogtober 2023 #27 — A Wundrous Divinity

The hands of a clock, with all its gears and cogs showing. The constant ticking slows and quickens to make words. The hands whir as regularly as each breath in Mathilde‘s body — in, out, in, out. They are mounted on top of an hourglass, eternally half-full on both sides, though sand keeps flowing through the opening. 

   “The Singularity wishes you to approach,” the cogs sound out. Mathilde takes shaking steps forward. 

   “My greetings to the Singularity,” she says, trying to keep her voice composed. She has only spoken to two of the Divinities before this — Tempus is not usually an Art mastered so early in the education of a Wundersmith. 

   “Show me,” asks the Singularity. 

   Mathilde places her new imprint, hands trembling only slightly, onto the bottom of the hourglass.

Rastaban: Technically this is plan P

Mathilde: Plan P? Is there a plan M?

Rastaban: Yes but Odbuoy dies in plan M

Mathilde: I like plan M

I just want to point it out that Maud is a shorter, more simplified version of Matilda or Mathilde (Like how Morrigan short version is mog). And Lowry does sound similar to Lachance.

Lizzie swam deeper, deeper, feeling the water course over her skin as her athletic legs pumped for the bottom of the lake. This lake was known for its clear blue water, which surrounded Lizzie, filled with warm shafts of sunlight.

Mattie had bet her $100 to swim down and grab some sand from the bottom of the lake. It was a long way, but Lizzie could hold her breath for two minutes and was a strong swimmer, good enough to be professional one day. Maybe that was why Mattie had proposed the bet, as even with her powerful knack and position in Wunsoc, she could barely tread water, and was furious about it. Mattie was definitely jealous of Lizzie’s skills, but they were still friends, as they had been since fifth grade. Lately though, they couldn’t spend as much time together, as Mattie’s classes with Wunsoc took up more and more time. Finally, they had been able to go to the lake, but Mattie had been more distant than ever, and kept muttering about the other Wuns. Maybe that was why Lizzie took the bet, to impress Mattie, to bring her back to the friendship they used to have. Deep down, Lizzie knew that they were still friends, they still cared about each other, even if life had forced them apart.

But these thoughts didn’t cross Lizzie’s mind. All she thought about was the cold blue bottom of the lake, and the mud that she’d bring back to the surface. By her estimation, it couldn’t have been more than fifteen feet down to grab the slippery silt, and her only worry was that it’d slip out of her hand on the way up. 

As she went further, Lizzie felt the pressure start to weigh on her, drag her down. How far had she gone? The bottom seemed to be close, but Lizzie felt like she had swam much farther than just 15 feet. Worse still, the bottom of the lake still looked far away. Still she kicked on. Just when her air was about to run out, Lizzie realized it had been a trick of the light. The bottom of the deep lake could have been right under her fingers, or maybe even a hundred feet further, a distance no one could make without special gear. 

Lizzie flipped around, kicking her powerful legs to propel her back to the surface. Her lungs burned and she could feel the pressure underneath the water squeezing at her. Come on come on! she thought. Stupid bet! Lizzie continued to desperately swim for the surface, but the blue water turned dark, and she had no idea which way was up. The cold hands of the water gripped at her lungs, clawing away her remaining air with ice-cold fingers. Lizzie kept going, but her legs were tired and she felt faint. The water is cold, much too cold to be swimming, thought Lizzie, nearly delirious, thinking of the small flurry of snowflakes that had fallen before she’d dived. 

Lizzie knew she was going to die. She knew now that her lungs couldn’t take it, they’d give out. With a kick to the surface - so close now, just a few feet - her lungs heaved, desperate to find air that wasn’t there. They filled with water, a deep, unsettling feeling as if something had crawled into her lungs. Lizzie coughed, but it was useless. With one last kick, she moved upward, but with no oxygen to power it, it was weak. She was going unconscious, and fast. Mattie, thought Lizzie, though she knew her friend couldn’t hear, please help me Mathilde.

A Masterlist of Underused French Names

So as a French person, I grew a little bit tired of seeing the same old French names over and over again. So under the cut is a list of 260 (185 first names and 105 surnames) underused French names, based on my experience, with the bolded ones being my favorites! And now don’t get me wrong, many of those names are not strictly French, and are in other languages too. But just know they are used in French too, so they can be used for your French character if needed. And there are obviously a lot of other names you can go for!

Yesterday I watched Cartoon Saloon’s short “Screecher’s Reach”, and thought Daal’s hair was almost exactly like how I envision Mathilde Lachance’s hair, so I decided to try and draw her. Today I stopped cleaning up the sketch after about an hour because I got bored, so it’s going here.

a little fanfic i wrote some minutes ago! hope u like it and sry for bad grammar!

"How can you, Ezra?" Elodie's voice trembled with anger and disappointment. "I thought… You said…" There were no words for her feelings.

Ezra just grinned in response, ignoring the eight others' tearful eyes, disappointed faces, and angry attitudes.

Or, rather, seven others. The wundersmith Mathilde Lachance was completely calm, and looked at him with a kind of pity.

However, that changed quickly. The eyes became hard as diamonds. The breathing became violent. Her jaw muscles tightened and she opened and closed her hands.

"I say the same thing as Elodie," she said. But unlike Elodie Bauer's current, desperate, voice, the tone was hateful, threatening and confident. "How can you, President Wintersea?"

Ezra jerked. Then he smiled again and answered her question. “It was the easiest way to get into Nevermoor. And it's just fair that I get something back, so how did you know it was not Mr. Squall? ”

Mathilde raised an eyebrow. “First: You have entered my friend's body, and control him, and you think I owe you something? Second: Ezra would never behave like that. Third: You forget that I am not only a wundersmith, but also a witness. ” Her voice was sarcastic and condescending.

A brief glimmer of irritation appeared in Ezra's eyes over that miscalculation. He tilted his head, and once again his mouth was pulled up in a familiar smile that frightened Mathilde more than anyone had ever done.

He collapsed a little. "Please, run from here," he begged in a trembling voice. "I can not resist… she will… you will… just run."

No one moved out of the spot.

Ezra stood up when his mind and body were taken over by the president.

Suddenly Mathilde realized what was going to happen. She saw it. The whole body was wrapped in deep burgundy, for revenge, and if you looked at the inner layers, where Ezra was still Ezra, it was deep blue, for sorrow, and a tone of purple, for fear. Or for remorse. Mathilde did not really know. In any case, you did not have to be a genius to know what would happen. "RUN!" she screamed. "RUN FOR YOUR LIVES!"

Unfortunately, it was too late. Eight out of nine lost their lives, and the ninth was banished from his home, never really regaining his body in over a hundred years, apart from brief glimpses of control.
