Maven POV:

Thomas. The boy who cherished me. He was my first — my first kiss, my first love, my initial foray into the complexities of a relationship. With him, I experienced the intimacy of truly connecting with someone, of being vulnerable and raw. Yet, in a twist of fate and a haze of decisions, he also became the boy who met his end at my hands. When I first received news of his death, I felt as though I'd been reduced to ashes, consumed by an inferno of grief and disbelief. Every memory of him played like a haunting melody, reminding me of the fragility of life and the treacherous nature of the world we navigated.

Father and Cal. Admittedly, Father often seemed preoccupied, his attention diverted elsewhere. Yet, the words "I love you" were scarcely acknowledged, making me feel overlooked. Cal, on the other hand, had always been there, the protective elder brother guiding my way. While resentment lingered towards Father, Cal had always been there, my elder brother, supporting and loving me unconditionally. Then I recall all the instances where I tried, only to be overshadowed by Father's unwavering attention to his golden child, Cal – his shining son. Over time, those accumulated memories bred a coldness within me, ultimately encasing my heart in ice.

Mare. The singular soul who truly grasped my essence. She looked past the icy exterior, recognizing not just a prince but a young man striving for validation. I wasn't merely an issue; I was an individual facing challenges. The one person who brought out the side of me I didn't know still existed. And now, I'm condemning her to her fate. I recall the look in her eyes, filled with admiration and love, back in the theater. A pang of sorrow hits me as I realize I may never witness that gaze again. That realization shattered me from within, leaving me broken.

It's undeniable; I'm merely a shadow, a monster at heart.

MareXMaven is not romantic

It's straight up abuse

I shipped Mare and Maven so much in the first book and I was so ready for a redemption arc and subsequent romantic plot line between them but I stopped shipping them while reading the second book, Glass Sword because of all the shit Maven pulled. And it just got worse from there.

I still believe that the person Maven pretended to be, or would have been had his mother not fucked up his brain would have been good for Mare, it would have been a good, pure ship but that doesn't change the fact that the Maven who actually exists is a evil abusive psychopath. Nothing about Mare and Maven is romantic because

Maven isn't capable of love

Thanks to his mother's tinkering in his brain. There are literal gaps in his fucking brain and this is something which is said time and again

Like I said before Mare and Maven is just an abusive relationship. This is not love.

As for the people who saying MareCal shippers are hating on MavenXMare; I don't ship MareCal I don't even like Cal that much, I'm just a decent fucking human who understands some relationships are just plain abusive no matter how much underlying "love" or rather Maven's twisted idea of love exists

why you guys (cal stans) keep trashing others people when someone said that love maven and mare and would like them to be together. i have seen some people choosing to not talk about rq because they liked maven and somehow you guys made a tabu of that.

Did you read the books? If you did, then you know the history of Mare and Maven’s relationship. In case you have forgotten, Maven betrayed Mare, watched her almost get killed in the Bowl of Bones, branded her, guilted her into returning to him by sending letters soaked in blood of innocent dead babies, made her kneel in front of him or else he’d have killed the people she loved, put a collar on her and paraded her like a freaking trophy, imprisoned her for six months (Silent Stone and manacles for months), and allowed Samson Merandus, a butcher, to torture her with her memories. Imagine the physical and psychological torture he put her through. Still romantic? Nah, I don’t think so. I don’t support abusive relationships is all, so yes, I can’t stand people who still ship Mare and Maven romantically after all those things. However, please don’t assume that only Cal stans are against shipping Mare and Maven. There are many others who aren’t Cal stans but are also against shipping Mare and Maven.

And to the people who like Maven but choosing to not talk about RQ because we, Cal stans, made a taboo of that, you say? Sorry, but we are not the fandom police. I don’t get that. I see many people love and talk about Maven a lot all the time.
