Wells Jaha, Catra, Max Caulfield!

Getting to think about Wells Jaha and his potential is a pastime of mine, what can I say. I do love that I have done it often enough to associate him with me.

I'm surprised with Catra, I think? Pleasantly so, I am very fond of Catra and her journey and getting to see a character who was allowed to be raw and wrong and angry, and then finally, finally a chance to actually break through that, to heal. Fuck, I love Catra.

And Max Caulfiled!!! Aaaaa. It's the time travel isn't it. I love time travel. Max's time powers are one of my favorites, even if the 'laws' of it are a bit vague in the game (at least the comic works with this and expands).

So I’m wanting to focus on the good and positive stuff right now, especially since we’ve still got 5 1/2 days left 😭. Do you have any theories or fun speculations about what the malex twist could be? Or even just how their story next week might go? I hope it’s something about how they rescue Max or get him back in his body or whatever they’re planning to do. Like maybe whatever has to be done is alien magic and Michael isn’t quite strong enough but Alex grabs his hand and because their soulmates he gets the extra boost he needs from it?? I don’t really know if that’s a “twist” but I would love something like that. Stronger when together.

Also wouldn’t mind a Forrest mention to be honest. Michael making a searching comment about Forrest wondering where Alex is and Alex is just ???? Could be a fun moment and would help them get on the same page in that regard!!

Mhmm, I don't really have plot-specific things I'm pondering about, but here's what I hope to see in 3x08 tho:

Kyle wakes up (looking well-rested for a change)

Kylex "fireside chat" about the Caulfiled file and what Alex should do (stay with Deep Sky, or leave it all behind)

Alex informs everyone that he found Kyle

Alex will have read the Caulfield file, and upon Kyle's suggestion, he decides to share the information with Michael

MALEX TAAAALK. So much talking. No, but, it's basically the entire episode of them just talking, while the others have coffee at the Crashdown, they all deserve a break.

For some reason, they enter a mindscape together. Or Michael puts a handprint on Alex. Or a magical fairy sprinkles them with fairy dust. Whatever it is, it's The Twist, and it makes them talk without hiding anything. They can't lie, they can't keep important things from one another. Total openness, I'VE LOVED YOU SINCE WE WERE SEVENTEEN - I'VE NEVER STOPPED LOVING YOU confessions, the whole shebang.

At some point, they kiss. Kiss some more. AND SOME MORE. AND THEN THEY... damn you, 8pm timeslot for making them cut the best things. RUDE! 😩

Well, I know that it won't go like that, not an entire episode of just them talking, obviously. Which is a damn shame if you ask me. But no one asked me (why not, I give great advice, and my advice would've been to let them talk for an entire episode 🤷‍♀️).

Anyhoodle, since Chris mentioned "targeted flashbacks to the 1960s" during the SDCC panel, I assume we'll see some of those. I'm really curious to see, what's so special about March 11th, 1969, what Patricia had to do with it all, and where the Lockhart Machine fits in.

I still hope that we'll get more than one Malex scene tho, that they'll talk, that there are confessions, and a kiss. They fucking OWE us after the The Great (Not Actually Great) 7-episodes Malex Drought 2K21.

Have you now seen the theory that Alex is manipulating Michael just to spend time with him? I am shocked that there are actual fans who like Malex who actually think that low of Alex. The reason Alex wants to help Michael with his mother, is because the man feels guilty over Caulfield. Alex feels like it's his responsibility to help Michael with this because he blames himself for what happened. How do some fans turn something like that into such a gross misinterpretation of Alex' character.

Alex Manes, always ~scheming, always the ‘villain’, huh? Look at him, he’s had an agenda since 2008!

Honest question tho: what was Alex supposed to do with the information about Nora he discovered?

Michael never ‘forbade’ Alex to go through the Caulfiled files (wouldn’t be his call to make anyway), and he’s always been aware that Alex’d been doing that. And now Alex has found out more about Michael’s mother. Should he have kept the information to himself, as not to ‘manipulate’ Michael?

Should he have sent Kyle as a messenger and stayed away (which would’ve gone down super well with Michael, I’m sure...)? Should he have sent a fax, an email or an owl? The triangle’s a dumb high school trope, but these people are actual adults, and adults can usually handle a simple conversation.

It’s been several weeks since they last talked in front of Alex’s house, where Michael told Alex that he didn’t want them to work together. He never told Alex to stop going through the files or that he should never contact him ever again.

Alex stayed away for weeks, and only when he found something of relevance, he went to see Michael, bc he wanted to ask him whether he should dig deeper. He’s asking Michael for his explicit consent/permission. Wow, that’s some grade A ‘manipulation’. 🙄

If anything, Alex is following Michael’s lead:

Alex accepted Michael’s no and stayed away, like Michael asked him to.

Alex only got in touch initially bc it was important and he wanted Michael to know, and asked whether he should continue.

Michael told him it was okay, and only when Alex found something else, he got in touch again.

Although Michael just told him that he’s no longer with Maria, there’s not even a hint at an attempt of Alex ‘manipulating’ Michael into getting back together or whatnot. Alex doesn’t even comment on the break-up.

When Alex thought their conversation at the fire pit was over, he got up to leave. No flimsy excuses to extend his stay, no attempts at ‘manipulating’ Michael into spending more time with him.

Alex may ‘have left nice in the Middle East’, but Alex is not a manipulative asshole (unless he’s exploiting Jesse’s weaknesses). Alex understands that Michael needs space, and that’s exactly what he’s giving him.

He’s not coddling him tho, he doesn’t treat him with kid gloves. Because Michael’s not a child that needs to be protected from Alex’s oh-so-manipulative ways. He’s a man who said no to Alex, and Alex accepted and respected that every step of the way.

And yes, Alex does feel guilty, and he feels responsible. He wants to atone for the sins of his family, and to a degree, he thinks it’s his fault. But he also wants to know more, he needs answers. And I think that’s something Michael realizes during their convo in Max’s pod cave.

At first he suspects that Alex is doing it to give him a reason to keep in touch, but he immediately realizes that that’s not the case. Michael knows Alex better and understands, that he’s not the only one who wants and needs answers, Alex does, too. And Michael won’t stand in the way of that.
