How Do I Move On From A Favourite Stuffed Animal?

For context, I’m an adult— a college graduate— who still sleeps with stuffed animals. This is more and more common these days, but the embarrassing part is that I get really emotionally invested in them; giving them names, personalities, likes and dislikes, ect. And it’s gotten so bad that now I feel like I’m grieving a stuffed animal that I have to throw out.

The stuffed animal is a large plushie that got dirty after years of loving cuddles, and did not fit in my washing machine, or dryer. So I attempted to wash it in the bathtub with fabric softener and blow dry it. This didn’t work. It became moldy. I then tried to undo the stitching, take out the stuffing, wash it in the washer, and dry in the dryer, before putting new stuffing inside. But the smell and stains never went away, and when I was stitching him back together I had to keep taking breaks to cough, sneeze, and rub my eyes.

I didn’t want to throw him away, especially since it now felt like I was “torturing” him by “forcing him to live in pain”’ (an incredibly weird thing to think and say, which is why I made a burner blog 💀), so I kept him on my bed but no longer cuddled him, and tried not to touch him, face away, ect.

But while changing the sheets today I felt bad, held it, and immediately started tearing up and feeling itchy. Idk if this is mold or product buildup or what, but I can’t keep him anymore. Even his face is contorted and looks sad, like he’s suffering. But I don’t want to throw him away…

So all this to say: does anyone have any tips on moving on from an emotional support stuffed animal? I’ve been putting off actually throwing him away for weeks because I feel horrid, like he’s still alive and like I’m abandoning him.

I’ve been thinking of giving him a funeral, but I’m not sure what that would entail, and if I would be able to carry it out without immense guilt. I figured if anyone would know, it would probably be tumblr users. Please help!

can I be cruel tonight. vietnam vet soda who admired his dad for being a soldier for years bc as kids we’re blind to the truth of war and sacrifice and all he knew growing up was that his dad had to go fight in the korean war like weeks after he was born and didn’t come home until soda was at least eighteen months old. darrel sr. never talked about the war, he acts like it didn’t happen, except he wore his dogtags under his shirt every day for the rest of his life after—and then soda wears them when his dad dies because it’s like keeping a part of his dad with him, something he was proud of his dad for.

and then soda gets his own, when he’s eighteen and they send him that letter condemning him to the same fate he realizes that there was a story behind that blank expression his dad would have some nights, stories similar to the ones sod’s has now and he feels sick to his stomach. but he also feels closer to his dad than ever. and now sometimes if darry and pony can’t find soda they go to the cemetary and soda will be sitting on the ground in front of their parents’ graves and his fingers will be tangled in the chain of his dogtags as he just stares into the middle distance, like their dad used to, once upon a time

fr i want a list of art related new year resolutions bc i finally feel like i have a goal and some progress. so yeah The List:

- ermm getting faster. might include tracking time and stopping listening to music all the time and actually making 19472 sketches before drawing and changing techniques and maybe even using layers properly. gotta be hard and i think i tried doing that in 2024 and well you saw the results. i have no identity now. not lovin it;

- trying out some traditional stuff. i am no paper person and it means i spend soo much time on the computer it's embarrassing. maybe paper will save me. i got some ideas but im not sharing them yet;

- appreciating common artistic moves. like when a teacher adds funky animations to their powerpoint or when a small shop owner decorates their place with paper snowflakes. like this is art damn ! i only recently started loving this shit and it makes me a happier person;

- letting myself be pretentious about my art. idk how to explain but ever since young age ive been so afraid to be a tiny bit paphos about what im doing because 🥺 what if it's cringe 🥺 but now i Know It Is Cringe and i know Wonderful Cool People Im Trying To Impress (4 of my mutuals) somehow happened to like cringe so i can afford getting even more insufferable :ь;

- trying out drawing outside ! damn i want that so bad ! to jus be sitting out there on a bench and doodling shit i Don't Know what's holding me back. maybe cold. maybe my vision. i still need to try it so bad;

- maybe 👉👈 drawing clueless ppl outdoors 👉👈 like they're sitting somewhere in a train 👉👈 and i could draw them 👉👈 if i wore my glasses 👉👈 ppl told me it helps A Lot but im a coward !

- vandalism;

- adding so many shits to one drawing... my dreamm.... to draw something like that happy-dolphins-hopping-out-of-the-water meme... .. . it may include getting some composition knowledge.. .. ;
