The Sweetest Taste | Chapter 8 - I was worried about you
Tumblr media
Din Djarin is happy on Nevarro. He has a home, a family, what more could he want? But when a woman turns up selling bread and cakes at his doorstep, how can he not fall in love? And how can he also stop her from getting hurt at the hands of her partner behind closed doors? Will the hero save the girl and get the girl? Warm and sweet fluff/romance/hurt/comfort fic.
Masterlist
Chapter 8
----
Not even thirty minutes later Din was strolling through the quiet streets of the north side of the city.
Grogu in his hover pram was at his side as usual. Din had had to park his N-1 Starcruiser outside the city walls, and so the walk would have been too far for Grogu to manage on his tiny legs. For this part of the city was a long way away, and a far cry from the central plazas which housed the grandest of buildings.
Here the streets were far more enclosed, with houses and apartments stacked on top of one another. Litter and rubble lined the cobbled paths and the clientele around these parts certainly left much to be desired.
But Din Djarin wasn't paying any attention to that.
Silently he walked with Grogu.
The sky was growing dark and the last of the suns rays now only touched the very tops of the pale spired buildings.
He rounded a corner knowing he was close to the street he was heading for. His mind fixed on one thing.
Was he an idiot for coming all the way here, just to check to see if Lysa was ok?
Surely that was what friends did- look out for each other? And Din certainly felt that Lysa needed looking out for, with a man like Crix around.
Din tried to recollect whether in his lifetime he’d heard a man speak to someone he was supposed to care about the way Crix had to Lysa. The way he had scowled at her and hissed into her face - it had raised Din’s hackles to say the least.
If Lysa were his, there would never in a thousand moons be a reason he would find to treat her like that.
But then Lysa wasn't his.
And Din needed to remember that.
With his mouth closed, Din breathed out slowly through his nostrils. His mind lingering on thoughts like these as he rounded a corner.
But suddenly he stopped in his tracks, quickly reaching out an arm and pulling Grogu’s pram back around the corner once more, keeping out of sight.
For stood there, in front of Lysa’s rusted front doorway, was Crix Val’shif, flanked by two men of similar stature.
“Yeah an’ I told you, don’ wait up,” Din heard him yell back towards his open door, before shooting a foul smirk to the thuggish men at his side.
He was obviously replying to whoever was inside the house, and Din knew that this was most certainly Lysa. Crix showing her the same level of disrespect he always did, in front of his friends too, which made Din even angrier.
“Come on, first round is on me,” he heard Crix say to his buddies, bashing his hand upon the buzzer causing the front door to slide closed behind him. “She’s had a good week selling her crap, so I might as well make the most of it.”
Din immediately gave a growl at hearing those words, his grip tightening around his blaster. And for a split second had to hold himself back from stepping out and shooting Crix right through the skull.
But something stopped him. Something tugging at him inside.
Instead he watched as Crix and his drinking buddies sauntered off.
The Mandalorian glanced down at Grogu for a moment, noticing the small child staring up at him questioningly.
Din gave a short sigh.
“Come on,” he murmured, making up his mind on what to do next.
And with that, the pair stepped out of the shadows crossing the thirty or so feet towards Lysa’s front door.
They were there in a moment. The street was now deserted and yet Din could hear a drum beat from his own chest.
He cleared his throat, before slowly rapping his gloved fist against the door.
He just wanted to see her. Make sure she was ok. That’s all this was.
Din waited only a second or two before the door slid open.
Standing on the other side was Lysa, her hair tied back from her face, wearing pale green robes today.
To Din she looked like everything he’d ever dreamed of. Everything he knew he would likely never deserve, even in a thousand lifetimes.
But Lysa’ green eyes widened into orbs almost immediately, as she took him in. Before she glanced up and down the street looking horrified.
She turned back to him hurriedly. “Din, please. You need to go.”
Behind his beskar mask Din gave a frown.
“I was worried about you,” he said in a low voice, through his modulator.
And for a small second, he saw Lysa’s eyes soften at his words.
“I-I’m fine,” she replied after a few moments. “It’s just that Crix doesn't like Mandalorians. And you grabbing him like that….well he was really angry. He said if he sees you again-”
“I can handle myself, I promise,” said Din in a firm voice.
But Lysa merely looked up at him, sadly shaking her head. She looked worried now, concerned.
That light that Din normally associated with her, seemingly gone.
“I’ve seen how angry he can get-” Lysa began, but Din cut across her.
“Does he get angry with you?” he said, shaking his head, as Grogu at his side stared between the two of them. “I saw that mark on your arm-”
“That wasn’t-” Lysa said quickly, before a frown suddenly darkened her perfect brow. Her tone becoming defensive, angry. “He loves me. I told you, it was an accident, I fell getting into the speeder.”
“You said out of the speeder,” said Din sharply. Her defence of the man that had treated her so badly, causing Din’s own hackles to rise.
“What?” she snapped, frowning again.
“You said you’d hit your arm getting out of your speeder, not into it.” Din knew he was being pedantic but surely if it were a truth the facts would be simple to recall.
“I-” But Lysa didn't finish, shaking her head frustratedly. “Same difference.”
Din stood still, like a statue, but inside his heart was thrumming fast inside his ribcage, angered by the lies she was telling him. Angered by the fact that she would stand up for a man like Crix.
“If he’s been hitting you-” Din began.
But the moment he said the words, he saw the mood shift in Lysa’s eyes from frustration and defensiveness to one of anger.
“You don't know anything about me…about us,” she snapped, balling her hands into fists at her sides, her eyes reddened, tears pooling at her lash-lines. “I love him.”
But hearing this declaration from her mouth, after the way Crix had treated her infront of Din and in front of his own friends….
The words escaped Din’s lips before he could stop himself.
“Well it doesn't seem like he loves you,” he said starkly, his voice low and lethal at this very moment.
But he regretted it, almost the moment he’d said it. Watching as angry and hurt, tears sloshed from Lysa’s eyes as she blinked, her mouth hovering open as though in disbelief that he could be so hurtful.
She was silent for a few long seconds, before taking a sharp intake of breath.
“Goodbye, Din Djarin,” she said, sounding utterly hurt and betrayed.
And before Din could say even another word she had turned away from him, tearful and angry, and the door had slid shut in his face.
Leaving him on the doorstep, a heavy feeling hollowing out the pit of his stomach.
“Dank Farrik….” he huffed out beneath his breath.
What the hell had he just done?

B-wing flying in.
A little caricature of a Star Wars B-wing heading into action. Though I do have to admit that its perspective is a little off. Still, Enjoy!

Comics!Shaak Ti 3

from Jedi: Shaak Ti
this is the best one, i think. so much so that i have a hard time picking out the pics i love the most. i think this is the only star wars piece of media that focus specifically on Shaak Ti, and even then, its not a lot of attention.
however few, i think these moments are extremely cool and i love how they're drawn.
(i hadnt noticed this but look at how in that last one she has taken out the jewelry she usually wears. probably the only time we ever see her without that tiara-thing togruta wear)
