@brainworms-all-night-long you inspired me to turn my PC back on and brush off some code from last April, hope you like this lol
Happy boop day hehe
#boop#mbrine does programming#man that tag's so old it didn't even autocomplete LOL#if it looks like it's triggered by me typing in your askbox you overestimate my abilities#I had to hit a button on my phone to send a message that gets picked up by the overlay because reasons#by “brush off” I really meant just removing several zeroes from the code because OBS doesn't like summoning a million objects at once LOL

Warning for some of the worst code you'll probably ever see this week, below the cut
(until I start looking in the other javascript files)
BEHOLD, my if-else monstrosity from 2023]
Followed by the system I replaced it with
What a difference 2 years of studying and working with other actual programmers can do for you lol
(also just the realization that building structures on a foundation of concrete is leagues better than sand 🤣)
#mbrine does programming#again i probably never expected to have to work on this stuff again in the future but still#i learned proper coding standards after 2 years of writing code AHAHAHAHAH#mbrine is going insane

I swear to god with every line of code im reading through I wanna whack this guy even harder
Only problem is "this guy" is me from 2023
wtf were you thinking why is this file 2000 lines with 4 comments how did this even function in the first place holy jesus
Aaaaaaaaaaanyways, if I can get the code rewritten to be more human-friendly I may be able to upload the Sonic controller overlay for others to use 😅
First things first, make it human-readable....
^the controller overlay in question
#mbrine does programming#this project is more for me than anyone else tbh#my code's been due for a major rewrite for the past 2 years because adding new stuff is giving me a damn migraine#ok in all fairness about 90% of the code was written very rapidly on a “smuggled” laptop and across *several* bus rides

Oh cool they want another gameplay video but the time limit is 2 minutes?
Proudly presenting...
mbrine TAS's his group's game project Part 2 (and a half)
(It's still over 2 minutes because the game just takes that long lol)
Our final presentation's on Monday and I have once again been granted the honor of recording our gameplay videos!!!
We didn't use this video btw, I went and cut some footage of a human playthrough for our actual submission 😅
Since the last TAS I recorded, we now have a new level, new weapon balancing, new character sprite, new hazards, new nearly everything aaaaaaaaaaaa
It's getting genuinely hard for me to play the game quickly, and I need to demo it in front of the class... without slow motion... and while trying to show it in a good light
The team's telling me to just finish as fast as possible (while getting the hidden weapon), but I can't consistently get under 5 minutes because everything takes so much longer 😭
At least this time we weren't forced to cram all the gameplay into a 10-second clip LOL
Side note: It's probably not a good look to be doing exploits during our game presentation, so about half the things I do in the TAS can't even be used on Monday
Aka:
No rapid weapon switching to bypass the fire rate (That's cheating)
No grabbing stuff through walls (of course)
Don't combo the boss into oblivion, so people at least get to see its attack (our teammate spent 3 weeks programming it)
Maybe don't run past all the enemies before they can react 🤣
Avoid throwing weapons at boxes to nudge them
Show off the game mechanics instead of abusing them
Kind of a sequel to this post, you can really see the difference in level design and game feel after 3 weeks
Bonus reaction images:

Doodle PS5 Dualsense controller overlay
Kinda speaks for itself really. I took the PS5 controller theme that I made, and crudely drew it again with my mouse
Then I spent an agonising 30 minutes aligning all the buttons to be pixel-perfect
All this effort to make a controller overlay look low-effort 🤣

So my groupmates tasked me with recording a gameplay video as part of our project
This dude said "oh btw mbrine you need to go fast when you record it, they want the video to be short"
I responded with "Does it need to look human?" and got a "idk" back as a response, so that was enough for me
I then decided to add a few lines of code to the project before booting up OBS and proudly present
mbrine TAS's his group's game project in 40 seconds because the video needs to be short
All sounds added in post, my "TAS" method was basically just running the game at 20% speed and speeding the video back up afterwards
And yes we actually submitted this video
We're gonna have a fun time explaining why our showcase appears to feature gameplay by a freaking demigod lmao
It kinda makes sense that I'm the one to record the video, I was in charge of implementing all the player related mechanics(excluding the grapple), so I knew the best way to use every single ability, and the mechanics of the player movement(+exploits)
Reaction pic below

Also this gameplay probably looks extremely confusing with no provided info and completely out of context doesnt it
Its actually pretty fun trust me I just skipped all the fun parts cuz they slow

mbrine TAS's his group's game project because the video needs to be short (Part 2)
Sequel to this post.
Since we don't have a method of tracking "progression" yet, I took 100% completion to be:
Get all the intel collectables
Kill all the enemies
Fire every weapon at least once (including easter eggs)
Take down the boss (Since it's currently optional due to clashing with the wave system)
Still got plenty of mistakes here, namely missing shots and some jumps, but overall good enough for this version of the project
I'll do one more for the final game, there's still more work to be done on the game itself but I wanted to push the limits one time before getting back to work 😈
I'm praying that the final game takes longer than 1.5mins to complete at the very least AHAHAHAHAHAHAH

Twitch Physics Chat
Since my alerts overlay already uses Matter.js for physics simulations, I just needed to modify some code to allow it to simulate html elements as well and here's the result around 4h later
Pure Chaos.
It also goes perfectly with the entry/exit animations with no headaches whatsoever (/s I spent 3 of those 4h debugging those and uttered many unkind words to my computer)
Anyways it got a few laughs out of my stream chat when I showed it off, so I'll keep it up as a temporary effect for channel points lol
Also yes I recorded this demo on my BRB screen and yes that is Tails running in circles on my BRB screen (also spinny seal)
