sits over here, another thing that annoys me about palworld is like. just from an artist's perspective: even if the the devs didn't use ai to make the monster designs, it's so blatantly clear that they just ripped shit off from like 4 different sources.

like?? the art styles for the monsters don't match up. you've got pokemon here, some ghibli there, and a little dragon quest here stuck in an overly realistic environment with player models that look like generic anime-styled protagonists. there's no consistency, the art style is all over the place. it's so abundantly clear that they literally just threw whatever they could at a wall and rolled with what stuck.

it's frustrating when other indie projects or games in general take the time and effort to create their own style and form an aesthetic that matches what they want to go for, but apparently none of that matters if the subject matter is controversial enough! fuck gamefreak and its lazy developers, am i right!

it's also equal parts hilarious and frustrating the amount of people saying palworld can get away with it because it's supposed to be parody, but as far as i've seen/heard the actual developers and people in charge have said nothing of the sort 😳 people really need to learn that "absurd, potentially controversial" premise does not automatically equate to parody- and even THEN that would have nothing to do with the designs of the mons???

"it's a parody of pokemon" then explain the ghibli and dragon quest """inspired""" designs. or the gameplay loop being more like ark or fortnite instead of a direct pokemon clone. i'll wait

idk, as a person who's been in the creative space for over 10 years and spent All This Time building on my own work and trying to get better at designing, it's absolutely frustrating to witness, and i'm not even officially a professional, lmao. i can't imagine how much of a punch in the gut this is to people who actually do these things (character designers, environment designers, game designers) for a living

4. Why did you give them the name they have? What is the in-universe reason for their name?

I was actually super stumped on what to call them bc mentally I had just been using "sombie!harper" while i was stating them out and my brain really did not want to let go of calling them Harper bc that's,, yk,, the character I actually wanted to be using. But I did decide they should get their own name, if only so I could at least try to make them distinct from Harper. So I basically just spammed the random name generator on Behind The Name until it spat out "Vsevolod" and I went "huh. 11th century slavic prince eh? sounds exactly like the kind of shit a transmasc closet nerd with russian heritage would pick. could shorten it to Sev for everyday use." Then I realized that actually Sev hadn't come out to anyone until after they got embraced, so they wouldn't have ever actually used that name, but I still wanted to keep "Sev" so I justified it as being derived from "Sever" which was the nickname they got from their Sabbat pack.

10. What is your favorite trait regarding your oc? tie between all his traits that are actually harper's

It is actually the Forced Redemption Arc, though, which I did steal from Harper. I just find that aspect of "I will be a better person, not because it's the right thing to do but because I have literally no other options and I'm going to hate it the whole time" really fun to explore with/inflict on a character. I also specifically enjoy how Sev's version of it compares to Harper's because in some ways Sev is a lot farther along in it than Harper is, but also they haven't had nearly as much ground to make up or put in nearly as much effort. Like, Sev was 10 Years In The Sabbat evil but they weren't Killing And Eating Whole People For 30 Years And Liking It evil. They also have only had to get to a point of being acceptable for a Camarilla neonate, (if an ambitious one), rather than a heavily scrutinized Scourge who's continued existence is balanced against how well they can thread that needle. And on top of that, the big thing that Sev is covering up is the fact that they're caitiff and ex-sabbat rather than the fact that they're actively a cannibal. idk idk it compels me

11. What is your least favorite trait regarding your oc? the fact that they aren't harper

🫵 (at sev) BOOTLICKER!!! Not to the same degree as Harper because he hasn't had nearly as much time to perfect the art of kissing ass, but he's well on his way. I don't think they'll ever be quite as bad as Harper, though. Circling back to the contrasts between Sev and Harper's arcs: Sev has a much easier time being Civilized TM but he also chafes a lot more under authority. Part of his attitude that lends a lot of credence to his cover is that he clearly would prefer to be the one pulling the strings, rather than getting yanked around himself.

19. How might your oc react to finding out you are the one responsible for their life?

Oh, Sev would straight up kill me. No hesitation. Then they'd go have an existential crisis over their newly shattered belief in free will. Then it's like a 50/50 whether they kill themself or decide to pretend the whole thing never happened and carry on like normal.

I really like how fgo said Kirschtaria is the pride of the clock tower and he's a role model. Then you see him and the truth of it is he's a rich kid with numbed emotions and he's so detached from humanity that he sees his way is right. Started following because i needed easy access to the rest of over your shoulder and stayed because of room 405 and mutual irritation (legit this i think is my fave series of yours i genuinely squeeed in delight when i saw the latest chapter get posted cause i thought you didnt want to write it anymore (which is absolutely fine! Your blog. Your work. Your word goes)). Stayed for everything else.

Awhh!! Honestly that fills me with immense joy because Over Your Shoulder is my BABY and my favorite story I've written besides OSL. I'm very ACAB and anti-bootlicker but there's something about writing military stories that just... I just love writing them. I think it's the idea of hard people being able to be soft, and I've been told by many exes and family members that I'm a hard person to love and be around and idk I just think that's why it draws me to them.

I do love Mutual Irritation, and it has been... slow going lmao. I had an original path in mind for the story and it's still going to follow that closely, but there were some details I needed to ruminate on before really writing more.

How dare I, a professional long time freelance artist, show that clip studio is actually making subbing OPTIONAL and making it so you can just stick with the version you have for free, so people don't have to spend money. Like I get your vibe must be being nasty and hide behind anon, and it must be exhausting having to take everyone at the absolute worst bad faith angle, but at least go through the bare minimum steps to comprehend what you're trying to be mad at before you embarrass yourself in my inbox??? Besides liquify (which rules) I don't see a LOT of the updates being handy for 99% of artists who are outside of the full time webtoon/webcomic making and who use Clip full time. like one of the updates was to view your webtoon as a preview on a phone which is handy but also if i had the choice to, even as a professional, i wouldn't sub and would wait. Oh also, one was like 'better shadows on 3d models' which again, I don't even know a lot of professionals who use the shadows on the models either. IMO would be a waste for a lot of artists and this way you can at least SEE what is going on and make an educated purchase if you want to. ANYWAY- if you have Clip now, hell yea, it whips ass and is extremely cheap for desktop if you can get it for a sale, but RIP the fellow artists already on that ipad sub. At least for me it has paid for itself every year, but I'm also on EX and the price is definitely steep and not recommended for the hobby artist. If you're not making any money right now off your art, which is totally fine, I wouldn't recommend doing any kind of sub and just vibe with the very free options for desktop, or if you did get an ipad maybe procreate since its $10. But it would also be 27.7(and some change) YEARS before the EX yearly sub price would come out to the same price as an Ipad pro and an apple pencil, so for the people saying 'just get procreate' -- its only a viable option if you already have the very expensive hardware. Got it? ok cool!

So ultimately you can just not buy anything and then see if these updates are make or break for you as an artist, and if they're not you save money. Cause wouldn't it suck if you DID sub and then none of the updates were for your version??? or for you specifically? (yes it would.) Also the clip team is a small team and a far cry from adobe saying they'd sue people who used older versions so, idk, cry more Anon? I already know you're not a professional artist cause no professionals would speak that way to someone trying to help, so I hope you sort it out soon and touch some grass weirdo! xx Or don't! So this is the continuation post of my previous ask regarding the allegation of whitewashing in Shiori's portrayal in HNY. As we all know that antis have brought it up many times before since the episode was first released. But several days ago, between 10th to 12th February, a discourse on twitter about it was happening again. It was, in my opinion, one of the worst discourse I have, not-so-accidentally, involved in because several antis that spoke up about the problem (including me) are native, dark-skinned Asians yet our arguments were shot down by non-Asians, saying that we're the racist one because we're stirring problems when there is none. So, in favor of trying to understand what did they exactly mean, I summed up yesterday's discourse to see their arguments as objectively as possible.

After hearing their reasoning, at this point all antis involved in the discourse stated that it's sort of wrong to assume that Shiori's dark skin is just a demonic trait because it can be implied as if no full human in Inuyasha universe would have darker skin tone. Her tanned skin can also be seen as the representation of indigenous Japanese that have naturally dark skin color. Therefore, linking Shiori's dark skin as a mere demonic trait that will disappear once a year is rather harmful because it implies that a darker tone is not a normal skin tone in Japan. It indicates a possibility of colorism that occurs in the studio that creates anime Inuyasha and HNY for there is a favoritism of lighter skin tone over the darker one.

4. However, pro-light skin Shiori once again reaffirmed their arguments that it is not racist nor colorist. More so because everyone's born with different skin color.

5. Someone pointed out that Towa and Setsuna, as hanyou, also show changes in skin color during human night making them resemble their demon father more, or not, idk what exactly this person wants to say 😭😭

7. From these tweets, I gathered that this person believed that antis saying "associating Shiori's dark skin as just a demonic trait is a bad thing" means antis are stereotyping Shiori's father as a bad demon (but please CMIIW though ✌).

8. You may want to read this person's statements first and then analyse by yourself what exactly the message that did this person want to convey. In my case, after a long thought, I assumed that this person argue that the skin tone diversity is within Shiori's body herself. If antis don't like her fair skin, then that means we're the racist/colorist one. Furthermore, any POC that have problem with it is having a color complex.

(And I'm sorry but for me the most insulting part is that s/he said that no Latam POC have that problem because they aren't self-conscious like Asian/non-Latam POC. Feels like s/he invalidates the struggle and discrimination that we grew up with :) But, thanks to this person, I now understand the perspective of Sunrise supporters, why they think that antis are actually the racist/colorist one, not HNY directors. Nope. Could never be them, right? 😉

I think the issue with Orym is less that he’s an actual killjoy in game (because as you’ve pointed out that basically isn’t true) and more that early on in eXu he was one of the PCs pushing against pursuing the plot hooks that were offered to the party. From an audience perspective that can look like being a killjoy. Saying, “this obviously bad idea is a bad idea,” is a totally reasonable thing to say, but it a little bit violates the D&D social contract of “DM give scenario, PCs react to scenario” that a lot of people expect.

Now obviously that’s not a hard rule and I honestly don’t even think that’s what Liam was doing by playing Orym as more cautious, but I can see how it looked like that early on when eXu was having a much harder time finding its footing.

So you have the vague appearance of being a bootlicker/killjoy at the beginning, mixed with a frustrating eXu start, plus the people who just hate Liam, and you’ve got a recipe for people to be bizarrely furious at a chill little dude.

This is a really interesting point. For one thing, because I'd never thought of his input as "pushing against pursuing the plot hooks" because they'd still have interacted with them. Idk if I'm taking this too much from a (amateur) DM's perspective, but if the party had decided to go to the guard instead, then the guard ropes them in to assist with catching the criminals, sends them as a party to investigate the place that Poska name drops during an interrogation and *bam* the party has the vestige and instead of Poska wanting it, it's actually a mysterious higher-up of the Nameless - basically Poska's boss, let's say, that's after the item and, thus, the group. Maybe there's an insider in the guard so they have to skip town because they get hunted by them too to bring the item in. The thing with this storytelling is that you don't keep the building bricks at static places, you're ready to move them along into the direction your players run.

Saying "This is a bad idea" also shouldn't be enough to immediately get on anybody's bad side, I think. He went along with it, after all. But maybe I'm a bit biased because one of my current D&D characters started out as a bit of a pessimistic worrywart who was saying "This is a bad idea" regularly while going along with what our party was doing anyway because that's how this game works. Idk if people just don't think about that while watching, but when I'm playing I'm keenly aware that nothing can happen when I just stomp my foot, going "I don't wanna", so obviously I'm not going to actually do that.

But I also can understand a bit that people might see Orym's reaction at being a bit of a killjoy - I don't share that view, but I can understand it somewhat. But that bootlicker thing has always thrown me foor a loop. Maybe it's a cultural thing that I just don't get as a European person? Idk. Then again, I also didn't really understand what many people found so frustrating about the ExU start, but I wasn't that active in fandom during ExU because real life stuff, so I can only contribute so much to that matter without starting to pull things out of thin air.

But yeah, the more negative views of Orym got really out of hand, I feel, probably especially because Liam is playing him, so here we are. But hey, now there'll be plenty of time for people to get to know this funky little halfling better and see for themselves that he's really just that: a chill little dude.
