#me when i just have zero interest in the umbrella academy

Every umbrella academy character ranked
Prior to Season 4 coming this year, thought I'd share my character rank with you for the first 3 seasons all together. (Spoilers ahead)
#33- Marcus, Jayme, Alphonso and Fei
Painfully insignificant and underdeveloped. Their only character traits being "spoiled and a bit evil" made them EXTREMELY captivating villians...
#32- Christopher
Only higher because I find the idea of someone carrying around a cube on a stick onset really funny.
#31- Sparrow Ben
Hard to watch honestly, especially in comparison to his lovely counterpart Umbrella Ben.
In general, the Sparrows were terrible and pointless characters, and clearly the writers knew this because most were killed off pretty quickly. All except for Sparrow Ben, which just meant we had to suffer watching him for even longer.
#30- Viktor
This is a controversial choice. He is tolerable in season 1, but then just becomes a moochy emo sod who is boring to watch. I don't know if it's the acting, script or both, but he’s just such a meek and flavourless character who is PARTICULARLY bad in season 3 when he jeopardises his whole family and is repeatedly selfish and has a victim complex.
#29- Luther
He caused the apocalypse in season one and you can't convince me otherwise. Got some alamaba shit going on with Allison...
There are so many reasons I hate Luther. He's a self-centred man child who couldn't care less about his siblings and their feelings, showing zero empathy to Klaus or Vanya, for example. He only shows respect and kindness when he is attracted to the person (As shown when seasons 1 and 2 he is only nice to Allison, then completely ignores her when he moves on to Sloane) or when they pose as an authority figure to him. All he does is whine and feel sorry for himself.
What's that? You lived in the apocalypse all alone for 40 years? You are addicted to drugs and lost the love of your life in a war? You have a power you can't control and a lifetime of rejection? WELL LUTHER WENT TO THE MOON
#28- Carl Cooper
Hated him as a character but he was a menacing villian which I can respect
#27- Harlan
Couldn't care less about him, only there for plot convenience and Victor's arc pretty much
#26- Sloane
An improvement from Luther's literal sibling. Further evidence that Luther will simply fall for any woman who gives a flying fuck about the moon.
Personality: attracted to Luther
#25- Pogo
Basil exposition of the first series
#24- Detective Patch
Barely remember her
#23- The Swedes
They were kind of goofy as villians but there was some good acting and they posed a real threat. Cute moments with the cats. In general, alright, but they could have easily been replaced plot wise with something more interesting.
#22- Cha Cha
Lack of character development for me. I think she deserved to be fleshed out more, I don't think it's fair that only her partner got to be a three-dimensional being. What are her motivations? Who is she underneath it all?
But overall i liked the acting and she was a good villian.
#21- That hotel worker from season 3
He's barely a character but I liked his sass so he's on the list.
#20- Reggie (Reginald Hargreeves)
He is supposed to be the main antagonist/villian of the show, yet The Handler stole his spotlight. He's a bit too stereotypically evil and asshole-ish for me, basically twiddling his moustache and stroking a cat in a dark corner the entire show. The delivery is too blunt and that doesn't help to build the tension and mystery surrounding him as much, but if he were more complicated and cryptic in his personality it would be more effective.
This is very nit picky and overall Reggie is fine. He has some hilarious moments with Klaus in season 3 and I am genuinely intrigued about the unanswered questions surrounding him.
#19- Elliott
He wasn't a particularly important or central character but I enjoyed it when he was on screen and he played his role convincingly. He was a good comic relief in some scenes, and when he died (spoiler alert) the reactions from other characters were realistic and quite impactful. I felt for him throughout, which is impressive for less significant characters and he had a lot of depth relative to the size of his role.
#18- Destiny's children
Not a singular character, but I LOVED Destiny's children. It fit Klaus's character perfectly to have a cult and led to some of the funnies moments in the series.
#17- Dave
From the very limited moments we see with this character, a lot of personality and emotion was communicated, and I feel like we got a big sense of the character. That is down to the brilliant acting from both of Dave's actors and from Robert Sheehan that really sold this character with so little screen time.
Anyway please come back to life Dave! Death doesn't look good on you!
#16- Agnes (Donut woman)
Very sweet and I wish her all the best in life.
#15- Sissy
BRILLIANTLY acted and impactful. Stole every scene between her and Vanya.
Also, she looks EXACTLY like Sheldon's mum in young sheldon...
#14- Herb and Dot
I want to put them both in my pocket and protect them from harm.
#13- Kenny's mum
Again, barely present but I love her. She's a queen. I would go to a rave with Kenny's Mum.
#12- Stan
I love Stan, and he's a big part of Diego and Lila's character development and motivations. I hope they adopt Stan and live happily ever after.
But yeah, great one-liners from Stan.
#11- Grace
Very well acted and haunting.
Top 10 *drumroll please*
#10- Harold Jenkins (Lenoard Peabody)
Again, quite a controversial placement, but I stand by my decision. The acting and delivery of Harold Jenkins as a villain is possibly the best in the whole show. I was totally convinced Lenoard was a nice guy and I was rooting for him and Vanya, until he started dropping hints and slowly revealing his true self and losing the facade and its... it's chefs kiss. So realistic. The actor deserves an award and a standing ovation.
The writers also deserve a pat on the back for this one because he has a convincing motivation and backstory, and the dialogue is DELICIOUS when it comes to Lenoard. He is a truly menacing villain without being overtly scary and powerful and dangerous.
Tumblr media
#9- Ray
Charismatic, gentlemanly, empathetic, loving, trusting, supportive... Ray is THE IDEAL MAN. I'm a little bit in love with Ray so I don't blame Allison.
HUGE step up from Luther, for sure.
Tumblr media
#8- Umbrella Ben
I would have liked to see more of his character, but I liked what I did see. He loves his siblings and shows it. He is selfless and sacrifices his own existence for Vanya, he is blunt with Klaus because he cares and wants him to improve. Of course, he and Klaus are also a hilarious duo.
Tumblr media
#7- Hazel
One of the most touching arcs that offers an insightful message about what life is for, and about Love. Beautifully acted, a very real and lovable character who probably resonates with many in some ways. Hazel is adorable and i miss him in later seasons.
Tumblr media
#6- The Handler
I LOVE THE HANDLER MORE THAN WORDS CAN EXPLAIN!!! Funny, playful, entertaining, uexpected and whimsical and yet simultaneously dark and menacing, AMAZING villian that stole EVERY SINGLE SCENE she was in. Kate Walsh was the perfect choice for the role and she played it to perfection.
A bit of trivia about the role, The Handler was originally written for a man, and when Kate Walsh got the role she insisted they didn't change the script (which, let's be honest, they would have.) She put a wonderful spin on it and it's just perfect, I wouldn't change a thing. I would 100% watch a spinoff all about the handler. Season 3 was worse than the previous two thanks to them killing her off (amongst other questionable plot choices)
Tumblr media
#5- Allison
Allison was the only character who knew what they were doing, and honestly, if everyone just listened to Allison, there would be no apocalypse. Her storyline losing both Claire and Ray and her powers driving her crazy with power breaks my heart but is well portrayed and impactful.
She's charismatic, clever, strong, and kind. I love Allison and I think most of us do.
Tumblr media
#4- Diego
He's stupid but in an endearing way, I find him to be so entertaining and funny, and the actor's face is like an open book. He's not show-stopping but his consistent presence just sets the mood and allows others to act off of him, while he really sells it with his expressions. He's like the rock of the show.
Tumblr media
#3- Lila
Lila. Mi amor. Mon amour. Amore mio. Meine Leibe.
Tumblr media
#2- Five
For several reasons:
A) He is the daddy here, Luther!!
B) That should be the only reason you need
Seriously, though, I was SUPER impressed with Aidan Gallagher and his incredible screen presence, especially at such a young age. He really embodies the character. Five is the face of the Umbrella Acadamy, and is undoubtedly the most iconic character. 10/10, two thumbs up, absolutely BRILLIANT.
Tumblr media
#1- Klaus
No justification necessary.

Why Ben’s Death Was Important.
These two TUA characters could've died earlier, and I would not care.
Now that The Umbrella Academy has come to an end with Season 4, I feel like it's the perfect time to share some of my thoughts on the characters, and one in particular—Jennifer. If Jennifer had been killed off at any point during the season, it honestly wouldn't have affected me in the slightest. I just couldn't bring myself to care about her character. Jennifer's presence throughout the series has been minimal at best; she's barely had any screen time or development, making it hard to connect with or invest in her story. In many ways, she felt like a character who was simply there to serve the needs of the plot, rather than someone we were meant to root for or even understand on a deeper level.
The show could have handled her just as they did with Harlan—abruptly writing her out without much of a send-off. Harlan, who was once an important character, was discarded with little fanfare when his role no longer fit into the narrative. But because Jennifer is more closely tied to the central plot and Sparrow Ben's storyline, the writers clearly felt she was too important to be cut off so easily. Despite her being integral to certain plot points, it felt like her character never truly got the attention or development needed to make her compelling. So, while her survival made sense for the overall narrative, it didn't do much to make her any more memorable or likable to me as a viewer. If they had killed her off from the start, then the show would basically be over. Happy Ending for everyone....except her.
Another character I would have had zero qualms about losing is Sparrow Ben. Especially him. I HATE this character with a passion. No one can ever replace Umbrella Ben in my eyes; he will always be the best Ben, the only valid Ben, and the one who truly mattered. Sparrow Ben, on the other hand, is an entirely different story. I wouldn't give two flying fucks if something terrible happened to him. 😭 From the moment he appeared on screen, it was clear that his character was meant to be unlikable—arrogant, self-centered, and constantly at odds with everyone around him. And while it seemed like the writers tried to soften him up in late end of Season 3, hoping to make him more sympathetic or relatable, it just didn't work for me. Any attempts to redeem Sparrow Ben fell flat, and he remained just as obnoxious as ever.
Frankly, I'm convinced that the only reason the Umbrellas kept him around was because he looked like their beloved Umbrella Ben. If it were up to me, I'd have left his ass somewhere along the way, probably "accidentally" letting him get swallowed up by the Kugelblitz or one of the many other apocalyptic threats they faced. The Umbrellas' insistence on keeping him around felt misguided; he's not their Ben, and he's made it painfully clear he doesn't want to be part of their found family. I kept thinking, "Just let him go! He's not your brother!" The whole dynamic was forced and uncomfortable, and it's hard not to blame him for a lot of what went wrong this season. The group's willingness to cling to this hollow version of their lost sibling only made things worse.
Because let's be real, most of the things in Season 4 can be traced back to Sparrow Ben's actions or his selfish decisions. If they had just left him behind earlier on, half the disasters they faced might never have happened. The Umbrellas should have cut their losses instead of trying to see something redeemable in a character who had no interest in being part of their story. To me, the only decent Sparrows were Sloane and Marcus—characters who, unlike Sparrow Ben, showed some sense of loyalty, vulnerability, and a willingness to grow. Sparrow Ben was just dead weight, a constant reminder of what the Umbrellas lost, without offering anything meaningful in return. He is a prime example to show how none of the Umbrella's are willing to just let go of some things and move on.
The entire series of The Umbrella Academy revolves around one central theme: the siblings' refusal to let go of the past and accept things as they are. They're constantly clinging to old traumas, memories, and regrets, unable to move forward. This is why Sparrow Ben's antagonistic personality is in a way important to the storyline. If he had been as loving, kind, and brotherly as Umbrella Ben, his role as the catalyst for the Umbrellas' downfall would have made no sense. Sparrow Ben's cold and selfish nature was a direct contrast to what the Umbrellas once had, highlighting just how much they were still trapped in the past, desperately trying to hold onto something that was long gone. So even though a lot of us might absolutely loathe this character, he role was a reminder that you can't recreate what you've lost, no matter how hard you try, and this refusal to accept that truth is what ultimately led the siblings down a destructive path.
Rewatching the series with this context makes Umbrella Ben's death feel even more important. On its own, his death is a heartbreaking and tragic moment, a sudden loss of a beloved character. But when viewed within the entire narrative arc of the series, it transforms from a purely sad event into something more complex—almost a bittersweet relief. I believe now that Ben's death was a subtle foreshadowing of how the story would ultimately end. It was a powerful hint at the series' overarching message about the necessity of letting go. Ben's journey was a microcosm of what every character needed to learn but often resisted—the painful but necessary act of moving on.
Ben was the first sibling to accept his fate, to realize that holding onto people, memories, and pain when it's time to let go is not only unhealthy but self-destructive. His decision to let go wasn't just about moving on from his own death; it was about ending his cycle of self-inflicted suffering. He recognized that by clinging to the past, he was only perpetuating his own misery. His final act of release allowed him to find peace, breaking the cycle and allowing his spirit to finally move forward. This stands in sharp contrast to the rest of the siblings, who repeatedly fall into the same patterns, unable to break free from their own personal demons.
To break the cycle, you must be willing to let go, just as Ben ultimately did.

me when i meet someone for the first time and i want to say:
“have you ever watched the umbrella academy? it’s a great show, you really should. it’s about a dysfunctional family of childhood superheroes who underwent serious trauma from their emotionally absent father and grow up to be insanely dynamic and interesting individuals who have to save the world but just keep failing over and over. my favorite character is five, a 58 year-old man in the body of his 13 year-old self who can teleport and time travel but got it wrong the first time and had to survive for over 40 years as the last living human in an apocalyptic wasteland before being recruited by an organization that exists outside of time that keeps the space-time continuum in harmony with itself to become the most lethal assassin known to man for not only his learned talents but also his superhuman abilities. he cares about his family more than anything and sacrificed just about everything he’s ever had to save them time and time again to go under-appreciated by everyone around him. he has a witty charm to him, but just about zero social skills due to several decades which he spent alone but is so extremely smart that at times it’s even difficult to conceptualize just what spending time inside his brain would entail. i find his character so complex and interesting that i’m sure if motivated, i could write several essays on each of his arcs, virtues, and traits. the show is also very loved, especially by myself, due to its beautifully selected soundtrack with some of my favorite songs and such beautiful vocals from artists all throughout time including some of the cast members from the show itself. i especially love ‘stormy weather’ covered and recorded by emmy raver-lampman, featured in season one episode eight, as her character, allison hargreeves, drives through a rainstorm to help save her sister while she thinks about how her entire life has been a lie due to the curse that her abilities inevitably cast upon her. the song gives me chills every time i hear it, from its beautiful vintage-string sound to emmy’s phenomenal vocals, it’s truly an underrated classic that i believe should be talked about so much more. i also love ‘stay with me’, covered and recorded by mary j. blige, also featured in season one episode eight, as her character cha-cha, a ruthless time-traveling hitwoman, seeks unfair revenge on her work partner who chose humanity to go live out his last days with the love of his life. both of these songs push the limits of the musical talent and power these women hold. i could truly go on about the show for hours, but i absolutely can’t recommend it enough. the first two seasons are some of my favorite pieces of film i’ve ever had the pleasure of enjoying, as even though the show isn’t artistically-shot or critically acclaimed, it’s so well-written, produced, and acted that it creates a spark of excitement deep within me that my words simply can’t describe.”
… but i have to say “hi, i’m lauren. nice to meet you.”

S4 of The Umbrella Academy was so garbage.
Geez. Why limit the season to 6 eps when every other season has had 10... even a runtime of 8 eps would have probably helped with the pacing issues, at least a bit.
It felt like nothing had any payoff. The CIA turning out to be Keepers? Shrug emoji. Nothing of consequence. The whole subway system came out of nowhere — it turns out that there were other ways to travel through time after all. The whole Gene and Jean thing was stretched out for so long and we got zero insight into why Sy knew so much — unless he was Abigail in disguise the whole time? But who cares?
There were some nice moments between the siblings: Allison and Klaus were mostly pretty sweet (except WHAT the heck were Allison's powers supposed to be? Also, Klaus didn't get to do anything except get locked up and buried alive) and I like that Luther and Diego got some time to bond (though, again, their skills were wasted).
Ben was. Odd. Poor kid just gets to die multiple times. And props to Viktor for actually trying to reason with Reginald and finally getting some validation from him.
The whole Lila and Five thing was so gross and completely unnecessary... I've always had issues with the way Lila was written (those 'kooky for the sake of kooky' characters can get pretty boring and I felt the same way about Klaus throughout a lot of the show). Five was my favourite from the start and just. Eurgh. #noonewantedthat
And the dialogue was so BAD. Some of the lines made me cringe so much. "To be honest I can't stop thinking about her" like. Okay Ben.
And even worse were these poignant moments happening in front of audiences and all the other characters on set just standing around completely wooden... like. What? Lila's family are in the background hearing that her marriage has fallen apart and they don't even act remotely shocked? What?
Claire was definitely one of the best parts of this season. She was a sweetheart.
Urgh. Overall, the whole thing just felt incredibly sloppy, poorly explained (WHY did Jennifer get the durango?) and as though the creative team had run out of ideas. There were so many moments where the Umbrellas acted with no urgency at all (like sitting around enjoying a Christmas party when they were supposed to be looking for Ben, or going to work as normal when they'd promised some random guy that they'd find his daughter within 24 hours). Powers morphed at the drop of a hat for plot convenience. Everyone got on board with the idea of being erased from existence without much fuss (apart from the whole thing about where the kids would end up). What was the significance of the giant squid? How were there so many Keepers? And what exactly were they keeping?
Also, I'm annoyed that they used 'Map of the Problematique' (a song I adore) to no effect; the lyrics didn't match the scenes of the Keepers arming themselves and it didn't fit the mood and just!
Anyway, two of the biggest issues I have:
If this version of Reginald is as callous as the others (after all, he did have Ben shot), then why did he waste all that time creating a fake world for Jennifer to live in?
Presumably, the only reason the Cleanse worked is because the creature eventually found the other kids that had marigold in them? Or, in this timeline, did only the Umbrellas have marigold? And in 150,000 timelines, are we supposed to believe that the Cleanse only happened once?
It's so stupid, oh man. The show's refusal to bring in the other marigold children outside of the Umbrellas was always so stinky — I thought we'd get something interesting when the Sparrows were introduced last season, but half of them died within a few episodes and geez, so much wasted potential.
Pretty glad the show is done now if that was the trajectory, lol.

Note
what are your favourite horror movies
what a question to ask me lol. ohhhkay, strap in.
(please note that when you ask me "favourite", that means you get favourite regardless of quality. and you get no tv shows or any such things, strictly movies)
(btw i haven't actually seen that many horror films. many of the iconic franchises especially - chucky, elm street, scream, friday the 13th, texas chainsaw massacre, what have you - just never piqued my interest. maybe some day)
(also these are in no particular order)
-
1. hellraiser franchise
my working theory is that all "hellraiser" movies are bad movies, but for different reasons. the og from 1987 is a bad movie because it was made on a budget of ten pounds and a packet of crisps. hellraiser 8 is bad because its plot is about a group of teens obsessed with a hellraiser video game getting murdered at a weird sex party. these two are not the same
that being said, i love these movies very much (except for hellraiser 10. i hate hellraiser 10 and will never ever watch it ever again, thank you. no reason) and love to look at pinhead and his many cenobite buddies doing weird kinky shit <3
2. halloween movies (only 1978 and the green trilogy from 2018 onwards)
i haven't seen any of the other ones because i was introduced to the series by my very good friend miri aka @asylos, who showed me those four and no others. and i was like okay :D and just never watched the rest because i don't consume media unless prompted
i'm a basic bitch, i see a man in a jumpsuit and get gender envy, so og twink michael delights me. that being said, old man michael from the green trilogy? CHEF'S KISS. love that fucker. he's the best
3. anything del toro
a lot of his films don't really stay within the constraints of a single genre, but they definitely contain horror elements. my favourite is "the shape of water", which has its moments but is overall not that scary. the pale man from "pan's labyrinth" made quite the impression on me when i first saw the movie because while i had seen the iconic shot of him raising his hands to reveal the Palm Eyes before, i was unaware of the fact that that fucker gets up and shambles around and i was Not Okay with that
crimson peak is very pretty and i love it. for obvious reasons, i think
4. willy's wonderland
nic cage night janitor animatronic murder fight bonanza my beloved. like honestly, i watched the fnaf movie yesterday and it had zero good cleaning montages, wasn't as funny and had fewer bangers, music-wise, than willy's does. like what's the fuckin point
5. fright night 2011
this film has david tennant in it and that's why i watched it. apart from him being an absolutely show-stealing delight, the rest of the film is also a fun romp. there's vampires and stuff
6. bad samaritan
this film ALSO has david tennant in it. he's doing an american accent (a way better one than in "gracepoint", a show that you should Not watch. just watch "broadchurch" instead please, i promise you're not missing anything) and is playing a rich asshole obsessed with horses who abducts and kills women. also he throws a phone out of a car window at two separate occasions and it cracks me up
the main character is played by some actor whose name i can never remember. he's irish or something and i think he might have been in one of those pieces of media i haven't consumed. umbrella academy? was he klaus in umbrella academy? who's klaus?? is klaus FROM umbrella academy? who knows
anyway, the film is a thriller and i quite like watching it. it's tense with zero unnecessary padding, it knows what it's here for and delivers
7. the thing 1982 + 2011
another one i watched with miri. miri likes to show me horror films (and tv shows) a lot <3 we watched both the og and the new one and i quite liked them! the dog in the 82 one is really really good at his job. i highkey struggle with big groups of characters bc i can't remember names and faces for shit, so i was reeeally bad at spotting the Thing. also i liked the teeth thing from the 2011 one that was smart
8. bunny lake is missing
does this count as a horror movie? idk, but i'm putting it here
9. psycho
it's pretty good. i liked it. i think norman would have been a tumblr sexyman if such a thing had existed in the 1960s
10. the one hour long space horror segment trapped in the middle of otherwise meandering artfilm "2001: a space odyssey"
you know the one
11. alien
classic. i haven't seen any of the others apart from "aliens" because the internet said they were bad
12. the abyss
veers closer to sci-fi than horror, but i'm counting it bc it sure is tense. this is a film by james cameron about *checks smudged handwriting* some underwater diving alien nonsense or something. idk, it's been a while since i've watched it. another movie with a big group of characters i can't tell apart for shit, which is why i'm always rooting for some of them to start dying already
i watched this one because i unfortunately am doing a handshake meme with jimmy cameron labelled "hello i am obsessed with the ocean" and unlike me, he has the money to make really long epic films about it
13. the haunting 1963
this is a movie adaptation of "the haunting of hill house" by shirley jackson. it's very good! (if you're familiar with flanagan's netflix show, there are some parts of this movie that will be... quite familiar)
i watched this one with miri, followed immediately by the 1999 remake (?), which i found very strange and occasionally hilarious because of cgi that hasn't stood the test of time. also, i'd like it to be put on record that i fuckin CALLED the thing about the fireplace (somehow lol)
14. rocky horror picture show
my parents showed me this movie when i was maybe a bit too young to see it, at a point in my life where i hadn't quite figured out yet that i was various shades of queer. it sure made an Impression
many years later, i finally got around to watching the sequel, "shock treatment" (thanks to miri, of course) which is very different but also a good time, and has some bangers of its own!
-
those are all the ones i can think of (and look up in the big movie watchlist google doc miri and i use to keep track of what we've seen so far) without digging through my dvd collection, which i don't feel like doing right now because it'd be a bother.
but just for fun, a few brief honourable mentions:
the shining (i care about shelley duvall and nothing else. so glad she got to punt jack nicholson's character down a flight of stairs with a baseball bat)
black christmas (keir dullea what IS your haircut shgsjfghs)
cabin in the woods (i knew nothing going in and miri was very pleased by this fact)
house on haunted hill 1959 (skeleton lol)
young frankenstein (my parents showed me the german dub version when i was, again, a bit too young for it. iconic movie tbh)

Thess vs Research Rabbit Holes
I honestly blame my upbringing for this. Because I was Like This well before the advent of the internet and it’s honestly my mother’s fault.
The main thing that separated my mother (and eventually me) from ... well, almost everyone else on either side of my family was the mentality of, “If you don’t know, and you’re curious, look it up”. My mother was thrilled to bits when she could justify the expense of the full set of the Encyclopaedia Britannica.
Now, picture - woman who almost certainly has ADHD, raised to that mentality, and then handed the internet. That kind of tells you everything you need to know about me. I learned pretty epic Google-fu because of all that.
That’s the backstory. Now, the evening.
See, I was going to watch Nimona. I still intend to, but I intend to do so curled up on the sofa because MASSIVE PAIN DAY - I just needed to check my Netflix password because my digibox logged me out of Netflix for no reason. ANYWAY. So I switched on Nimona while sitting at my desk and paused it almost immediately - not because of the ow (though grateful for all of this because it made me realise I probably didn’t want to watch a couple of hours worth of movie with this much ow anyplace but on the sofa), but because of the logo - Annapurna Pictures. And yes, the logo did look exactly like that of Annapurna Interactive. So I did some Googling, and the first thing I found out is that yes, Annapurna Interactive is just one division of Annapurna Pictures, and they have a pretty good reputation as that goes. Turns out Nimona is the first major offering of their Animation division. So the company that gave us Nimona also gave us What Remains of Edith Finch and Stray. Awesome.
Thing is, there were a couple of other names in terms of co-production. One of them was Vertigo Entertainment. So I went to look at their filmography and that was pretty impressive too - various Lego movies, a fair few remakes of Japanese horror flicks and a couple of Stephen King films (the recent IT remakes, for instance) ... and then I saw the TBA section of the television series section:
Horizon. And, in the “Creator” section of the table, “Based on Horizon: Zero Dawn”.
So ... while it’s early days and TBA and could be cancelled like that and the writer’s strike may well eat it ... they seem to be talking about a live-action Horizon: Zero Dawn TV series along the same lines as happened with The Last Of Us. And one of the showrunners is the guy who was also showrunner of The Umbrella Academy. (Apparently this was announced about a year ago but I guess it slipped under my radar.)
..................I ... really, desperately want this to be a thing. I want to see how they do the mechs.
Of course, after that I got it into my head to poke around at what some actors that had just come into my head were up to so I left that alone, but there you have it: my going down the research rabbit hole can yield some interesting results. And it’s way easier than flipping through an encyclopaedia.

Really out here watching Marvel fans crying and screaming over Amanda Seyfried simply just not wanting to be in a movie, and not being interested in the premise nor liking the idea and worrying about her career like everyone who wants to keep a job. People aren’t obligated to worship Marvel. There’s literally so many brilliant comic book companies out there which get no time of day, but hey, Darkhorse Comics are fantastic and look, we got The Umbrella Academy out of them not with the help of Marvel and DC giants taking over literally everything.
I love both, I do, but get over it fr. Somebody doesn’t like Guardians? Okay? So many do though. (She didn’t even say the script was bad anyway) I appreciate celebrities speaking up when they’re not interested nor like the idea of a movie because half the time they’re forced to shut up and have zero opinions.
People saying “yuh well she was in Ted 2 tho hypocrite” like yeah but I’m sorry that movie wasn’t gonna be a make or break one as funny as it was, which was her point. You can’t tell me Ted 2 was intended to be the biggest blockbuster of the next 5 years of something, sorry. It could’ve made or broken her career, and it’s fine for someone to worry about that. She was wrong this time, but not everyone’s guesses about everything is gonna turn out right.
Why should we strive to say “yeah this is just gonna be amazing” just because of pressure or because it’s from a popular brand, bullied for not liking something everyone else likes. I mean, look at how nightmarish or wonderful (rarely wonderful) gambling may or may not turn out. It’s more likely a film is gonna crash, just because every Marvel movie hasn’t, it doesn’t mean they can’t.
See this is why celebrities are liek “yup can’t have an opinion can’t like or dislike anything”.

Hi hi! I'm looking for a specific plot for a Umbrella Academy pairing - Klaus and Sparrow Ben, with me playing Klaus.
The starting line for the plot begins at the beginning of Season 3. After Diego's dance hallucination and the fight between the Sparrows and the Brellies, Klaus has staggered out from bothering Reginald and finds Viktor about to blast off at the Sparrows. In a split second, Klaus feels the panic of seeing Ben die - not yet properly configured with the fact that this isn't his Ben - and so he chooses to, very dumbly, jump in front of the blast to save Ben.
Turns out the blast was fatal, because Klaus dies after dropping one last joke Ben's way. Viktor hasn't seen what happened and flees the scene with his siblings, the Umbrella kids all realising Klaus isn't there but none of them coming to any conclusion other than he's probably ran off, he'll turn up.
The Sparrows now have a body in their mortuary and a very confused Ben. The confusion is only heightened when Klaus wakes up. After some negotiation, they decide that they'll keep Klaus as their prisoner/guest for a few days.
Things I am looking for
- Klaus' connection to death inadvertently saving the day by stopping Marcus getting swallowed by the whole wormhole in the basement and Grace from losing her mind.
- The Sparrows accidentally wind up liking Klaus. I adore the Umbrella kids but they haven't always been the most reliable with Klaus, and that's only shown to the Sparrows when they casually ask one of the Brellies where their number four is and receive a "idk probably off getting high' style response.
- A very confused and very jealous and very angry Ben dealing with the fact that Klaus saved him and now he's always around. I want lots of angst with our Ben. Maybe some dark themes too? A little bit of protectiveness and obsession wrapped in there?
- More Sparrow action! Would love to have them around. The Brellies too, of course!
- Lots and lots of plotting together! I really want us to develop this as a pairing. I want us in discord chat just constantly throwing back ideas, even if we never use some of them.
Let's just dig into it all!
Me: I'm 21+ and looking for the same. I write multi-para to novella style and have zero limits so angst and dark themes aplenty for me! I love side characters so would adore finding a partner that is willing to explore other characters and relationships outside of the main pairing.
It's important to note that I am currently only looking for partners who are available to write fairly frequently. My uni is off now until the start of October and I will be around a bunch to write and chat. Real life always comes first and I have my own responsibilities BUT I am not looking to write with someone who is only about once or twice a week. Thank you. ❤️
Like this and I will reach out so you can tell me about yourself! Please, please, please give me a proper introduction about you, your writing style and your thoughts from this ad. I don't require writing samples but I do think of initial contact as a bit of an idea for how we will be as partners. We want to write together after all, l'm not going to be enamoured by a 'yeah, I'm interested' style opener. ☂️☂️

Legends of Tomorrow: A Retrospective 1.9
I do remember this episode pretty well.  The series has felt like it was treading water, and is growing in confidence with itself.  It's far from being good, let's not lie, but it's getting better.  There was a reason I kept watching this nonsense show when it first came out.  There's enough in it to keep going.  Sure, it's like the first season of Parks and Rec.  It's probably not worth it, but you can see it grow all the time.
LEFT BEHIND
We pick up where we left off.  Kronos pilots the Waverider, abandoning half the team.  Rip makes a plan to distract Kronos and allow the others to go to the jump ship.  Silently, Snart decides to stay with Rip.  A sound moment of heroism!  This character has more development than the others combined, honestly.  They don't even need to dwell on it.  Snart might disagree with Rip at any opportunity, but he's still backing him.
And now - a twist!  Kronos takes Snart and leaves on the jumpship.  That's not what we thought he was after. I'm sure that means something.  But anyway, the ship is crashing.
'If you have a time machine, you're never late.'
Sara, Ray and Kendra come to the unhappy conclusion that they have been abandoned.  They need to hide from Savage, so they get into car theft.  This episode skips forward in time more than anything else we've seen so far.  It's a nice change of pace.  Getting left behind is hardly the newest of time travel ideas.  The Umbrella Academy made full use of it.  Through furniture montage, we see the trio settle into 1958, and only Ray is active in getting back.  He makes a device that looks like the sort of thing the Tenth Doctor used to make to track stuff.  I'm surprised it can't also fry an egg.  Sara decides to leave for no apparent reason.  She's annoyed at Ray, sure, but that's part and parcel of knowing him.
Bill Gates' father is in Ray's class (after a two year jump).  There aren't many references to famous figures in Legends yet.  Is this the first one?  I haven't been paying enough attention.  We'll be meeting Einstein soon.  Ray decides to destroy his time beacon to commit to a life with Kendra.  We have gone from zero to one hundred with this couple.  They move far too quickly for the audience to really connect with their relationship.  That's also because we have spanned two years in two minutes.  Ray goes from desperate to go home to keen to stay in 1960 in that time.  And we didn't even view this from the Waverider's perspective.
'Sorry we're late.'
Sara went back to the league of assassins.  I viewed this as incoherent from my angle, as they won't know who she is for at least another forty years.  Also I don't know much about the league of assassins.  It's another Arrow thing that I don't want to get into.  From what I can see on the surface, it doesn't interest me.
But wait!  It's twist time!  Kronos is Mick Rory.  Who would have thought?  It's not a very foreshadowed twist.  Kronos has not looked at Rory and decided not to kill him.  He hasn't tried to kidnap Snart before now.  Snart abandons Rory in the woods, and there's no sign that the Time Masters were nearby, or looking for Rory.  Rory spends a decent amount of time being trained by the Time Masters, but it'll be largely brushed over in future episodes.  It is one of those storylines that later on, the show decides it doesn't really want to remember.
'It's basically a life extending jacuzzi'.
We are deep in Arrow things.  Rip stops to tell the team not to use their powers or future tech, which means that they will use both of those things.  I still can't figure out why Sara came back here.  Perhaps it's still because I have never watched Arrow.  I refuse to.  The show should be able to get its most important character beats in, without relying on another, very long show.  I have that problem with Marvel too these days.  I recently watched the Multiverse of Madness just to understand the new canon.  I did not care for it!  I knew I wouldn't, and still I had to watch it.  I should have had more self-control, you might say, but I like Wanda Maximoff, and I stand by that.
This episode hinges on something Rip calls 'time drift'.  He says that when one spends too long in another timeline, one loses touch with one's former identity.  Sara has apparently regressed because of some sci-fi gobbledegook.  Legends will abandon this in the future again.  Zari and Behrad apparently never experience time drift, nor does Amaya.  Kendra apparently lost her powers while living in the fifties with Ray.  They have a very deep emotional discussion in front of everyone.
'I think we all wish you would have had this moment in private.'
Why do all these people have bows and arrows indoors?  Do they not know that they are a ranged weapon?  Rip pulls a Tyrion and demands a trial by combat.  It's a set up for Kendra and Sara to fight.  I'm more invested in the adventures of Mr Snart, trying to pull himself along a railing.  I know where it's heading, and it's another of those moments that made me think that the tone was perhaps too brutal than what it needed to be.
Snart uses his foot to operate his gun and freeze off his own hand.  Then he smashes it.  For all that I said it was tonally odd, it has more tension than the Kendra/Sara sword fight.  It's intense, emotional, and desperate.  Sara gets pulled back from the edge just by hearing the words 'white canary'.  The whole action sequence is pretty boring.  All of these sequences tend to blend together.  Give me Snart smashing his hand any day.
'Yes, it's quite remarkable Mr Rory is working for the Time Masters, considering you killed him.'
Snart reveals that he only let the gang believe he killed Rory, and that was all to easy to do.  They come up with the idea to reform him.  Only Kendra is particularly upset that he was Kronos, and killed her son.  Her voice is pretty lost in the whole thing.  We are distracted by the revelation that Gideon can regrow entire limbs.  Snart's escapade has no apparent repercussions.
'You'll see that miracles abound in this old timeship.'
Ray's bedroom has a screen where you can see the beach.  I've no idea why this is the case.  He has a single bunk, which is pretty awkward considering the scene you see it in sees Kendra reconfirm her love for him.  Where's she gonna sleep?
Rip reveals that he's always known where Savage is, he's just been unwilling to go there.  This does feel like it makes all of the previous efforts useless.  He's always known?  Now the next episode has to prove that the period is as awful as he claims.  Otherwise, this was a bit of lazy writing, as far as I can tell.

Idk understand other people “just leave mentality” because I find it interesting to see the other side. For me, I could wait 10 years for the next TSS episode. One of my favorite YouTube series went on a 7 year hiatus and I was more than excited and loved it just as I did before the hiatus because I’m not a person who ever gets impatient for anything since I grew up having to wait for everything. So I always find it interesting to see people who are on the other side and if you don’t mind, could you tell me why? I want to hear your prospective.
The biggest reason for me, is that we are being promised content that we aren’t getting. That’s my issue. Not only are we not getting the content we were promised but we get zero updates on the production of the content as it’s supposedly getting made these days.
I waited almost three years for Stranger Things. I waited nearly two years for The Umbrella Academy. I have no problem waiting when I know I’m actually going to get what I’m waiting for, and it’s actually worth the wait.

Chapter 12: Team Zero
Tumblr media
Striding into the steam-clouded sauna where the two remaining Swedish assassins now silently relaxed, The Handler began an unprompted conversation in their language. “All the new age remedies out there, but nothing beats a good schvitz when it comes to stress,” As she sat on the bench, the two men carefully watched her. “My job can be stressful, sure. But I can’t imagine what it must be like for you boys.” She batted her eyelashes.
“Do we know you?” The Swede, who appeared to be the leader, questioned. The Handler kept her head turned forward as she stared down.
“No. But I know all about you,” Standing from the bench, she quietly chuckled and walked to the center of the sauna, the steam crawling its way up to her neck. “However, seems you’ve run into some problems on this job.”
“Just a snag.” He tilted his head.
“You lost your brother. I’d call that more than a snag.”
Snapping, the second Swede pushed off the wall and marched up to The Handler. Before he could get too close, he grunted when she grabbed hold of his manhood, freezing his steps. She watched as his mouth fell open in pain. “What if I can give you the location of the knife-hurling dolt responsible for blowing up your beloved brother?”
The first Swede tilted his head. “Who are you?”
“Somebody you’re going to want to know.” Her eyes never left the man she was assaulting. The second Swede finally found the breath within him to speak.
“Unharm my weiner.” He wheezed in English, The Handler kindly doing as he asked, a smile on her face. He sighed and stepped away as his brother held up the hand that had been twirling a knife the entire time.
“Go on.”
At his words, she turned to him. “I’ll give you the exact location of the one you’re looking for. Diego. The rest… I’ll leave up to your imaginations.”
“What’s in it for you?”
“Let’s just say that his little game of ‘Hide the Sausage’ with my daughter needs a swift end. I just have one request,” The Handler approached the first Swede, the two in close proximity now. He watched her every move. “Don’t hurt the little one with the cute socks… and the other with the face scars.”
Lifting his chin, he furrowed his brows. “We’ve already killed her.” He mumbled. She only chuckled in amusement, the two men stiffening at the realization that their target may not have been executed like they thought.
-------------------------------------------------
The clicking of Reginald and (Y/N)’s shoes against the marble floor echoed throughout the hallway they walked down. The young girl was desperately trying to keep up with her father’s long strides, her puppy in her arms and her heart beating out of her chest. If they had actually complied, she was going to reveal her true whereabouts for the past two years to her family. They were going to know that the entire time they had been looking for Reginald, she was living under the same roof as him. No matter how many times she swallowed the lump in her throat, it always swelled right back up. “D-Dad, who are these people we’re having dinner with?”
“These people have been nothing but a nuisance to me.”
Her mind flashed back to the night of the gala. Diego had been there with Five. They were there for Reginald, to find out his intentions with the president. To find out what he was doing in Dallas in the first place. Reginald was a secretive man, he didn’t even let Grace or (Y/N) into his office unless he was present as well. Her stomach twisted in knots of anxiety the closer they approached the door to the tiki lounge. When Reginald stopped just before the doors, he turned to his daughter and lowered his voice. “When we enter, you are to sit and remain silent. Do not speak to them, do not interact with them. Sit and shut your mouth unless I tell you otherwise. And your pet remains on the floor or in your lap. Do I make myself clear?”
“Yes, sir.” She whispered and held Mr Pennycrumb close to her chest, the pup quietly panting and licking her cheek. That seemed to be enough for Reginald, for he nodded and turned forward, slamming the door open and marching into the lounge.
The Hargreeves stood dumbfounded at their father as he headed straight to the table they surrounded, not a word leaving his mouth. None of them had expected to see him ever again, especially not after the funeral they had attended back in 2019. But what they really didn’t expect to see was (Y/N) right behind him, her eyes avoiding them as she absentmindedly pat Mr Pennycrumb under his chin. She especially avoided looking at Five, whose jaw was dropped upon her appearance. The real kick was when Reginald pulled out a chair and motioned for her to sit. Without even a peep, she sat down and allowed him to scoot her closer to the table before taking his own seat. The five blinked once before taking their own seats at the table.
“Not only have you burglarized my lab, set my chimp loose, conned your way into the Mexican consulate, repeatedly stalked and attacked not only me, but my daughter as well, but you have, on numerous occasions, called me-”
Klaus joined the table with a grunt, a martini in his hand. “Hey, Pop. How’s it hangin’?”
“-‘Dad’,” Reginald gave everyone a once over as (Y/N) shifted uncomfortably under the stares of her family. “My reconnaissance tells me you’re not CIA, not KGB, certainly not MI5, so… who are you?”
(Y/N) watched as they all glanced at each other, opening their mouths to answer, but quickly closing them instead. This went on for a few seconds before Five decided to do it, “We’re your children. We’re from the future. In 1989, you adopted us all and trained us to fight against the end of the world. Called us the Umbrella Academy.”
Reginald turned his head from left to right, frowning at each individual. “Why on earth would I adopt six-”
“Eight. One of us isn’t here.” Allison clasped her hands together on the table.
“Dead,” Diego muttered, his head bowed down. “One of us is dead.”
“And the eighth?” Reginald questioned. (Y/N) cleared her throat and began to speak, but stopped when he sent a cold glare her way. “What did we talk about?”
She quickly shook her head. “No, I… I’m the eighth. I’m also your child from the future. You just… got me very early this time-”
“(Y/N), it is not the time for your games-”
“It’s not a game! W-Why do you think I’ve been leaving my dates with Preston to be with them?” At the words ‘dates’ and ‘Preston’, Five leaned forward, eyes narrowed at his love. She glanced at him apologetically and shook her head. Reginald was just about to scold her yet again, but she rolled the sleeve of her shirt up to reveal the umbrella tattoo on her left arm. “Did you forget about this?”
“Yeah, ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba. Enough of that now.” Klaus hissed and turned behind him. Everyone froze and stared at him in confusion. Turning forward again, he simply motioned for Reginald to continue. Uneasy, he did just that.
“Regardless,” His gaze turned back to Five. “What would possess me to adopt… seven ill-mannered malcontents?”
“We all have special abilities.” The boy answered.
“Special? In what sense?”
(Y/N) set her pet on the ground and sat up in her seat. “In the superpowered sense.” She raised her brows. Reginald sighed and clenched his jaw.
“My child, if you do not stay out of this as we agreed, I am going to have to send you to the car with your mother-”
“Dad! I am being so serious when I tell you I am one of them!”
“Well, call me old-fashioned, but I’m a stickler for a pesky little thing called evidence,” He turned back to the table. “Show me. All of you.”
Allison scoffed and adjusted the straw in her drink. “Everybody wants to see powers all of a sudden…”
“We’re not circus animals, okay?” Luther spoke. “We’re not gonna bounce balls on our noses and clap our hands like seals for your amusement-”
As if on cue, Diego launched a knife across the table, zipping around Reginald’s head and pinning itself into the pillar behind him. The seven leaned in and watched as the man clicked his pen and began writing in his journal. “What are you writing?” Diego asked. Reginald glanced up at him.
“You are zero for two, young man.” He quipped, Allison sputtering her drink before Diego jumped up from his seat in anger. To prevent anything disastrous from occurring, Five stood and blinked in front of his brother, halting his movement and whispering a ‘stop!’ to him. “Now, that is interesting.” Reginald muttered.
Five sighed and headed back towards his seat. “Alright, uh, quick rundown. Luther: super strength. Klaus can commune with the dead. Allison can rumor anyone to do anything.”
“Except she never uses it.” Diego muttered. Allison removed her lips from her straw and sent a tight-lipped smile towards her brother.
“I heard a rumor… you punched yourself in the face.”
Against his will, Diego rammed his fist into his face, crying out and groaning in pain immediately after. Klaus reached over and tried to comfort him as (Y/N) and Vanya ducked their heads down to hide their smiles. Reginald glanced over at the latter. “And you?”
Luther placed a hand on his sister’s arm with a smile. “Uh, maybe we don’t take Vanya for a test run.”
“Oh, yeah, that’s probably not a good idea.” Klaus sat back in his chair.
“It’s fine,” Vanya shrugged, reaching for a fork. “I can handle it.” And despite her siblings’ protests, she tapped the fork against her glass. A high-pitched tone rang and shook the table. (Y/N) held her breath as she waited for the worst. A beat later, the bowl of fruit in the center of the table exploded, chunks of fruit splattering against everyone’s clothes and faces. (Y/N) tried to dodge as Mr Pennycrumb jumped into her lap, happily licking the food from her scarred cheeks and chin.
Reginald sighed along with his future children as he handed his only actual daughter a napkin to clean herself. Adjusting the cuffs of his sleeves, he side-eyed her. “Alright, my child, show me.”
Not even hesitating, (Y/N) stood and placed her pup in her father’s lap, despite his clear distaste, and straightened her clothes. “Alright. So, I can clone myself. To both summon and dismiss these clones, I have to sing two distinct three-note tunes.” To prove her point, she ‘ooh’ed her first tune, her clone appearing from her shadow, standing with a blank stare. Reginald raised his brows and began writing in his journal. “These clones not only share a conscience with me, but function as muscle and spies.”
“Spies?” Reginald frowned.
“They’re able to record their memories for me to look over in my own mind. Over the past year, I’ve come to learn that I can view these memories in real time. They also function to fulfill any task I command them.” Turning to her clone, she placed her hands on her hips. “Pick up Pennycrumb’s leash,” She commanded, the clone immediately doing as it was told. “I’ve also recently learned that I can give them the ability to talk. But if I wanted to… oh, I don’t know… attend a date with a certain boy without actually being there, I can project my consciousness into its body.”
After taking a seat, (Y/N) immediately slumped in her chair, unconscious. The clone beside her perked up and blinked twice before turning to Reginald. The man leaned forward to inspect it, but jumped back when it spoke. “But if something prevents my clones from fulfilling their task, they will start to self-destruct after twelve hours if said task isn’t completed. This is done by tearing into its own flesh and ripping itself apart.”
At this, everyone shivered.
“Right. It’s terrifying,” The clone returned to its blank and empty shell before (Y/N) raised her head. “And to dismiss, I hum the tune from earlier in its descending order.” She demonstrated said tune, the clone disappearing into her shadow. Mr Pennycrumb excitedly jumped from Reginald to her lap, nuzzling into her arm. “Any questions, Dad?”
Reginald was hastily scribbling into his journal. “Extraordinary. Absolutely extraordinary… And even more so that you’ve managed to keep this power from me for over a year.” He whispered. Turning her head, she caught Five’s proud smile. She winked at him as Diego stood from his seat.
“Look, we know that you’re involved in a plot to assassinate the president.”
“You were recently hospitalized, isn’t that correct? You still appear to be suffering from delusions of grandeur and acute paranoia.”
“Am I?” Diego reached into his back pocket and slid a picture over to his father. “Explain this. That’s you. That’s two days from now on the grassy knoll at the exact spot the president’s gonna get shot.”
Reginald picked up the photo and scanned it before his eyes moved to his daughter, the girl slightly shrinking under his gaze. Receiving his answer to the question he was to ask her, he turned back to Diego and set the photo down. “Well… I suppose you’ve solved it. You’ve single-handedly unearth my nefarious plot,” The smile Diego wore slowly faded. “Is that what you want to hear? You fancy yourself a do-gooder? The last good man who will save us from our descent into corruption and conspiracy? This is a fantastic delusion.” The more Reginald tore into him, the lower Diego sat himself into his chair until his lips were quivering and a tear slid down his cheek. “The sad reality is that you’re a desperate man, tragically unaware of his own insignificance, desperately clinging to his own ineffectual reasoning. More succinctly, a man in over his head.”
“Y-Y-You’re wr… wrong.” Diego stuttered. (Y/N) shakily inhaled and slammed her hand onto the table, alerting the rest of her siblings.
“Don’t you ever talk to him like that!”
“And you!” Reginald whirled to his daughter, the girl flinching a bit. “You have done nothing but deceive me! I half expect you to tell me that the man you chose over Preston sits among us!”
(Y/N)’s gaze instantly found Five’s. His green orbs were pleading, begging her to say it.
Tell him. Tell him you love me. Shout it from the rooftops, promise that you’ll always believe in us. Tell him.
But she couldn’t. Not when her doubts sealed her lips shut and casted her eyes away from him. The siblings stared between the two, heartbroken for their situation. Seeing that she chose to be ashamed, Five nodded and cleared his throat to speak. “Look, forget about the president. We have a catastrophic war coming in five days. We need to figure out how to stop it.”
“War?” Reginald looked away from his daughter and to the boy across from him. “Men will always be at war with each other.”
“No, this isn’t just some war. I’m talking about a doomsday. The end of the world.”
“Well,” Reginald muttered after a beat of silence. “You’re the special ones, aren’t you? Why don’t you band together and do something about it?”
Expecting much, much more than that, all seven of them frowned. This was what Reginald wanted from the start, for them to come together as the Umbrella Academy and prevent the end of the world. But it had been almost two weeks and two apocalypses managed to form due to their actions. That was why they couldn’t.
Grunting, Klaus suddenly raised both his arms in the air and shook uncontrollably, choking out gasps and jerking his body. (Y/N) gasped and slowly reached out to him.
“Is he having a seizure?”
“Overdosing, probably…”
“Should we do something?”
Whipping her head to Luther, (Y/N) widened her eyes. “Yes!” She shouted before turning back to Klaus as he shuddered. “Shit, what if he is overdosing?!”
“Klaus,” Five leaned over and whispered. “Now is not the time. What are you doing?”
Gurgling, Klaus turned his body to Reginald, face contorted in discomfort. “I’m… Ben!” He gasped out before falling to the ground, panting and groaning. (Y/N) rushed to his side and placed a hand on his forehead.
“Klaus? Are you okay? Can you hear me?” She whispered as he reached up and weakly wrapped a hand around her wrist. Reginald looked from Klaus, to (Y/N), then to his journal before he gathered his things.
“Well… thank you for coming,” He stood from his chair and began to walk away, stepping over Klaus’s body. “I’ve seen about enough. Come along, (Y/N), your mother is waiting for us.”
A loud slam sounded, causing everyone in the room to turn to Luther, who stood and ripped his buttoned shirt open. (Y/N) covered her mouth when he revealed his discolored bare chest and abdomen. “Look at what you did to me! Look at it!”
As the siblings groaned and gawked, Reginald simply turned his attention to Five. “You in the culottes. A word, in private? (Y/N), to the car. This instant.”
“Yes, sir.” She whispered before giving Klaus a kiss on the forehead and standing to her feet. Five walked by her side in silence until they had to split ways. Reginald turned to the both of them, and just when (Y/N) was going to turn out of the lounge, Five grabbed her by the shoulders and pressed a kiss to her lips. Gasping, the girl brushed her fingertips over her lips as her face burned. She watched Reginald for a reaction, but he only motioned for her to leave. “Bye, Five.” She grinned behind her hand and hurried away.
“This way, boy.” Reginald brought Five’s attention back to him, leading the two of them to the bar. After they took their seats and he ordered their drinks, Reginald turned to his future son. “You seem to be the sensible one of the bunch.”
“That’s because I’m the oldest,” Five nodded, Reginald tilting his head. “You know, technically, I’m older than you right now.”
Reginald turned forward when the bartender set down a bottle in front of him. “Cognac?”
“Just a smidge.” Five slightly smiled. As he poured their drinks, Reginald started their subject of conversation.
“The other night, you quoted Homer at me. Why?”
Five shifted in his seat and straightened his blaser. “You forced us all to learn it as kids. In the original Greek, no less.” He raised his brows before a glass was passed to him. He and his father did a silent cheer before he took a gulp of it. The entire situation was so jarring to the boy, but as he said before, he didn’t choose this life. He’s just living it. For the next few days, anyway. “This world ends in five days if we don’t get out of the timeline.”
“Worlds end. Paleozoic, Jurassic, and so on.”
“We can do something about this one.”
“Man’s greatest flaw: the illusion of control.”
The boy frowned. “I need your help. Alright? You’re my last sane option. Otherwise, I gotta make a deal that I really don’t wanna make. What do you know about time travel?”
“In theory?”
“In practice.”
Reginald hummed. “I know it’s akin to descending blindly into the depths of freezing waters and reappearing-”
“-as an acorn. Yeah.” Five finished with a sigh.
“What transpired when you tried traveling before?”
The boy blinked and shook his head as he looked away. “I botched it…”
“How?”
“I jumped too far forward, got stuck in the future for forty-five years in an apocalypse. Then I jumped too far backwards… except this time, I brought my entire family with me.”
Reginald tapped his fingers against the bar as he clicked his tongue. “Including (Y/N)?” He questioned, receiving a nod in answer. “Well, maybe your appetite is disproportionate to the size of your abilities. Start small. Seconds, not decades.”
“Seconds?” Five widened his eyes. “Look, no offense, but I need a bit more time for what I’m trying to accomplish here.”
“So much can change in a matter of seconds. One can overthrow an empire,” His eyes moved from Five to the doorway (Y/N) had been standing in seconds ago unbeknownst to Five. “One could fall in love. An acorn doesn’t become an oak overnight.”
Five swallowed, his expression that of defeat. “I was really hoping you had more than that.”
“I’m sorry I can’t be of more help…”
Five shook his head slightly. “I’m sorry, too. I gave you such a hard time as a kid… I didn’t know any better.”
Humming, Reginald glanced down before raising his glass. “No skin off my teeth, old man.” He smiled before drinking. Five sighed and downed the rest of his drink before standing from his seat. “One more thing.”
“What is it?” Five turned back to his father, freezing at the cold look he had been giving him.
“It would be best… if you refrained from courting (Y/N).”
A pang going through his chest, Five rapidly blinked and stepped back. “W-What…?”
“Your relationship is not healthy,” Reginald stood from his stool and began walking past the boy. “And besides…”
Five clenched his fists as his father walked towards the exit of the tiki lounge.
“I have plans for her.”

☂︎ZEROᵗʰᵉ ʳᵉᵈ ᵘᵐᵇʳᵉˡˡᵃ
(Umbrella Academy x Sibling!Adolescent!Reader)
Tumblr media
❝00.00❞
☂︎ᴢᴇʀᴏ: ᴛʜᴇ sᴛʀᴀɴɢᴇ ʟɪᴛᴛʟᴇ ɢɪʀʟ
─━━━━━━⊱☂︎⊰━━━━━━─
ZERO GRACE HARGREEVES fixes her gaze out the window of Umbrella Academy staring out looking at the dried-out leaves moving across the ground and the grass swaying with the wind. You see, Zero had never been out of the house before. Reginald always told her it was bad for her to go outside. That it was a horrendous place. Even though the Elder man has passed, the rule just seemed to stick with her.
She found herself always confined in her room, Reginald had told her not to come out of. Though Sir Reginald was deceased, she still stayed in her room for most of her time, just without locked doors.
~☂︎~
ONE, TWO, THREE, FOUR, FIVE, AND SIX were heading out for another mission. Zero watched as they left, unconsciously starting to follow after them, wondering where they're going. Zero inched closer and closer to the door, as her ruby red flats went across the cardboard floor. As soon as she felt the coolness of the outside, a force pushed her back. She came to see the hostile eyes of her father.
Zero pointed outside the door where her siblings left, curious eyes facing her father. Reginald just shook his head in disappointment and kneeled to her height grabbing both of her shoulders; eye contact stern.
"Listen to me Number Zero. You must never go outside. The outside is a bad place not meant for you. Do you understand?"
Zero nodded in comprehension, but she was puzzled. Why couldn't she go with the others? Seconds later, Grace came over reaching for Zero's hands. Zero got scared and quickly snatched her hands away. Though resented, Grace kept her usual smile on her face.
"Come now, I'll make supper for you and Number Seven. Okay, dear?" Zero took one last look at Sir Reginald who still had his eyes still fixated on her with a severe gaze before walking away.
~☂︎~
HOURS HAD PAST. By this time all eight of the children were asleep. Reginald was occupied in his office fixing his monocle, before checking his watch. "Pogo! Grace! Come here at once."
Pogo, an advanced chimpanzee and Sir Reginald Hargreeves' assistant and friend at The Umbrella Academy, and Grace, the primary caregiver and adoptive mother of the eight children, materialized into his office . "Yes, Master Hargreeves?" Pogo said bowing. Reginald turned to the two of them as soon as they appeared.
"When I have no time left, I want you to watch over Number Zero. Make sure she stays quarantined in this house. You two will be her two companions. Make her feel as though you two are the only ones she can depend on. Now, do I make myself clear?" Reginald narrowed his eyes at the two.
"Is this really necessary? After all, she's just a chi—" Grace protested, but was silenced.
"Do I make myself clear?" Reginald repositioned, but in a more cold, hostile tone. Pogo looked up to Grace with a knowing look, as she held a hesitant expression.
"Yes, sir." The two said at the same time.
~☂︎~
ZERO SAUNTERS DOWN THE HALLWAY of the living room looking at the portraits. Paintings would fill every inch of the academy. All kinds of portraits would be sprawled out across the walls. The girl ceased at a portrait where it shows her brother Five Hargreeves, recalling the very moment of him going missing.
She remembered when she would always looked out her window on the porch, seeing if he would come back, but he never did.
~☂︎~
IN THE UMBRELLA ACADEMY RESIDENCE, the morning started just like any other with the Hargreeves'.  The sound of a ring of a bell echoed through the Academy as the uniformed  Hargreeves' children walked in a single file to the breakfast table. Once they got there, they waited patiently for their father to arrive, standing behind their chairs, quietly doing so.
After a few minutes Reginald came in alongside Zero who had her hands tucked tightly behind her back. Once they destinated to the table, the two departed wit Zero taking her seat beside Number Six, and Reginald positioning himself behind his own chair.
"Sit."
At the sound of the command, the children quickly reacted by pulling up their chairs and taking their seats. The children individually proceed to do their own things, with Herr Carlson playing in background. With Number Two scratching his knife into the arm rest of the chair, trying not to be caught by his strict father or snitch brother Number One who was eye flirting and exchanging smiles with Number Three, reciprocating. Number Four fiddled with some paper under the table, alongside Number Six who leaned over showing Zero a page in a book he liked by Anton Chekov, knowing Zero liked to read as well. Number Seven was at the right end of the table, quietly eating her meal.
But there was one certain Hargreeves that had trouble sealing his anger and irritation; And that Hargreeves was the prideful and mastermind Number Five. You see, Five had a burning desire to be able to test his ability to time travel and it ate him up inside that his father wouldn't allow him with a loathing passion. Instead of eating he stared down his father from the opposite end of the table, in vaxation; anger and frustration building up inside him. When his anger finally boiled over he grabbed his knife and jabbed it into the table. The loud sound caused everyone to turn his attention to him, with Zero’s frightened shoulders hoping.
"Number Five?" Reginald questions.
"I have a question."
"Knowledge is an admirable goal, but you know the rules. No talking during meal times. You are interrupting Herr Carlson." Reginald replies.
Unsatisfied with his father's educated response Five forcefully pushes his plate forward and stands up.
"I want to time travel." Five said.
"No."
"But I'm ready. I've been practicing my spatial jumps, just like you said." Five got up from his seat and demonstrated him doing a spatial jump, appearing next to Reginald. Five's power was Spatial Jumping, which gives him the ability to teleport both short and long distances.
"A spatial jump is trivial when compared with the unknowns of time travel. One is like sliding along the ice, the other is akin to descending blindly into the depths of the freezing water and reappearing as an acorn."
Five's hands balled up in his pockets.
"I don't get it."
"Hence the reason you're not ready."
Zero peers around the table at everyone's gaping facial expressions. But her eyes specifically trained on Number Seven, who gave a shake of the head no to Five, trying to get him to sit back down and stop pushing the issue.
"I'm not afraid."
"Fear isn't the issue. The effects it might have on your body, even on your mind, are far too unpredictable. Now, I forbid you to talk about this anymore." Reginald demanded, but Five still set up above everyone challenged at his father's utterance. The last thing Zero remembered was him running off outside, never to be seen again.
"Number Five. You haven't been excused! Come back here!"
Zero knew what he was going to do as she got up from her seat.
"Number Zero. Sit. Back. Down."
Zero didn't listen as she kept looking towards the door. Number Six tugged on her uniform sleeve a little, trying to get her attention. Number Six, observed her expression. It looked like she was trying to focus on something.
"Number Zero. Sit down. NOW!" Reginald yelled, making Zero snap out of her trance. She sat back down, hoping Five didn't do anything rash.
Number Six put his hand on Zero's shoulder, trying to make her feel better.
Therefore Number Five was never seen again, leaving his father, Grace, and his siblings behind, not aware of the consequences he would have to face.
~☂︎~
ZERO LOOKED AT the portrait a little longer, before turning away. She then trailed to the various family portraits that were displayed. Well, Zero wouldn't exactly call it a family portrait. Not everyone was entirely included. She and Vanya were not allowed to be in family portraits.
To Zero, these portraits weren't just any kind of portraits with her family just posing. To her it captured the emotions of her siblings trying to hold it together year after year as they evolved.
Zero would always look to the side at Vanya, seeing her with a downcast look on her face whenever she was not included. She remembered that she would always look away to the side, whenever she felt like she disappointed Reginald. Zero would just have a blank facial expression, being the most disciplined, that she became like a mindless zombie, always obeying when she was told to do something. She would only simply nod when spoken to. That's what caused her to get more mute over the years. So you can't expect a whole conversation with her, just a few conversations, never really speaking to anyone besides, her dear brother.
Number Six
~☂︎~
EVERYONE EXCEPT ZERO was gathered in Luther's room.
"S-she's kinda weird, right? I mean think about it." Number Two said.
"I don't think she's weird." Number Seven said quietly that no one heard.
"Yeah and she's always going off with Dad somewhere. It's like she's getting more and more mindless every day." Number Four said.
"You don't understand." Five suddenly said. This made everyone look to Five.
"You can't call her weird because you don't understand her. We don't know what she's going through. Don't judge something you don't understand." When Five finished everyone got quiet, taking into consideration what Five just said.
Number Three looked around to see Number Six gone.
"Hey, where's Six?"
~☂︎~
NUMBER SIX WENT OUT OF LUTHER'S ROOM to see Zero’s door wide open. He walked quietly to the door with a book in hand. Six peeped around the corner of the door to see Zero reading a book. He was kinda overjoyed to see that Zero had the same interest as him.
Six slowly started to walk in. When he took another step, the floor creaked, making Zero go stiff and turn around slowly. She looked to see Six, standing just outside her door. Zero was slightly surprised to see one of her siblings at her door. Usually, everyone would just ignore her as if she wasn't there. As if she was nothing. As if she mattered 0%. At least that's what Reginald told them to do.
"U-uh hi."
Zero just stared at him in surprise.
"Um, I got this book for you. I've noticed how much you like to read, s-so I thought it would be nice. It's really good. I promise." He handed the book over to her. Zero hesitantly looked at him and then the book She hesitantly took it and looked at the cover. Zero always liked hardcover books.
"Well enjoy the book, okay? Bye." Six started to exit the room, but before he could the unbelievable happened.
"T-t-thanks." Zero managed utter out quietly enough for Six to hear.
Number Six's eyes widened, then his expression slowly turned into a smile before walking away.
Zero looked to see if he was gone before opening the book.
~☂︎~
ZERO GAVE A SMALL SMILE at the memory, but not before remembering that he doesn't exist now. He passed years after Five’s disappearance. She didn't even get to attend the funeral. She could only watch from her secured shut window. The two were best friends ever since that day. Zero always thought Six was a little weird at first, but she started warming up to him day by day. He was truly a real brother to her.
~☂︎~
EVERYONE WAS IN the dining room eating dinner except Zero who just staring down at her plate. Everyone kept giving occasional glances at her, with concerned glances. Zero glanced at the empty seat next to her. The seat that would never be filled again.
"Number Zero, stop staring at your food and eat, this instant.
"I.......I..
All of a sudden the building started to shaking uncontrollably. Causing everyone to be frightened.
"Number Zero, control yourself!" Reginald demands. But Zero just keeps staring at her plate.
"Number Zero."
"Number Zero!"
Suddenly the shaking came to a stop. Everyone was staring at Zero wide-eyed. None of them knew what her powers were. It has always been a mystery. Not even Reginald Hargreeves himself knew, which is why he had to keep her contained.
" .......I'm....sorry..."
"Perhaps it's best if you go back to your room, where you belong." Reginald said with disappointment written on his face.
Zero simply nodded and headed back to her room that felt like a prison she could never escape.
Seven and Four watched sympathetically as Zero walked to her room.
She heard the sound of her door locking, signaling that she couldn't go back out.
~☂︎~
ZERO WAS IN HER ROOM looking in the mirror at her 13-year-old body. Why is she still young? Zero ages very slowly. Reginald gave his blood to slow down Zero's aging process. Even though she is technically 29, because of her slow age process she's still just a kid. Zero rubbed the eye bags under her eyes on her pale (s/c) skin from lack of sunlight. As she did this, she thought about how her life is now.
One had to leave for his mission on the moon. And Zero knew it wasn't for any important reason.
She doesn't know what the rest of her siblings, besides Seven are doing. Which is kind of sad if you think about it. Zero was so trapped in her own house all her life that she didn't realize how isolated she is from everything.
From everyone, shielded from the world.
Seven became a writer and a violinist. Zero would always read her book about what it was like for her in Umbrella Academy. She couldn't grasp why Vanya was right such a thing like this in the first place. Giving up the family secrets just like that. She still remembered when she was getting ready to leave.
~☂︎~
Zero looked to see her sister heading out the door.
"You have to go?" Zero said making Seven turn around.
"Yes, I have to go. I have no place here anymore. I'll try to come to visit okay." Seven said going over to hug her, but Zero quickly backed away shaking her head. Seven looked at her sympathetically. She knew Zero wasn't used to touch.
"You'll be okay, right?"
There was a long pause before Zero nodded.
Seven smiled and headed to the door. The truth was that she didn't want to leave Zero at that hellish place, but Zero was still in Reginald's custody.
"Bye, Zero," Seven said before she left, leaving Zero alone, waving goodbye at nothing. Her hand slowly came down as Reginald lead her back to her room.
~☂︎~
ZERO BRUSHED HER HAIR, fixing her tied up, red headband, getting ready for the funeral. What she didn't know was that her family was coming.
And that this day was going to change her life.

AO3 Game
gonna be straight with everybody here, I have two (2) separate AO3 accounts (mostly just to stay sane lmao) so if it’s all the same to y’all, I’ll probably be talking about both.
How many works do you have on AO3?
The last fic I posted on my original account, CrazyPrepared, just pushed me over the edge into 40 fics, which is pretty cool, but over on onceandfuturewarlock, I’m currently back at 31. I have zero explanation or justification for this, except that a village full of singing dancing cartoon trolls got a hold of me back in 2016, and they have yet to let me go.
What is your total AO3 wordcount?
On CrazyPrepared, all my fics add up to just a little over 94k all in, while onceandfuturewarlock drags in 185k, so add it all together and we’ve got 279k.
How many fandoms have you written for, and what are they?
I’ve been writing fanfiction since 2005, so it’d probably just be easier to tell you what fandoms I haven’t written for at this point lmao but currently, the only fandoms on my CrazyPrepared AO3 would be Trolls, How to Train Your Dragon, The Greatest Showman, The Lorax, and Treasure Planet, while my onceandfuturewarlock one is just Merlin with exactly one (1) fic for The Umbrella Academy tossed in for spice.
Looking to add more Treasure Planet and Umbrella Academy fics to my roster next year, when I have a little more free time, but we’ll just have to see how that goes (especially because I already have FOUR multi-chapter fics lined up for Trolls in 2022).
What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
Over on CrazyPrepared, the top 5 are Just You with 281 kudos, still got a lot of fight left in me with 199 kudos, Flowers with 198 kudos, One Night with 189 kudos, and Pretty Words with 180 kudos.
On onceandfuturewarlock, the top 5 are Secret with 4714 kudos, Hug with 2144 kudos, Debt with 2092 kudos, Knight with 1809 kudos, and Infallible with 1590 kudos.
Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
I try my best to respond to every comment I get, because I think it’s very kind of others to stop and give me positive encouragement or honest feedback on my work. The encouragement tells me to keep doing what I’m doing, and the feedback helps me see what I need to work on, which is always helpful because i am genuinely just a chimp playing with alphabet blocks over here. i have no fucking idea what i’m doing.
What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?
Kind of feel like that title should go to Heart on His Sleeve, but you disappear (without anyone noticing) and Mistletoe definitely don’t have the happiest conclusions, and a lot of people seemed to find Heir a bit bittersweet.
Do you write crossovers?
Not typically, but to be fair that’s mostly because as a general rule of thumb, I don’t write a fic unless I’m really passionate about it - I just don’t have the time to write a full-fledged fic for every single idea that goes through my head, much as I’d like to - and no crossover has ever really grabbed me before.
Have you ever received hate on a fic?
I am simply too cool and sexy to listen to the haters ✨
Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
On occasion, yeah, I’ll play around with some steamier / sexier fics, but it’s not a big interest of mine, so it pretty much never gets posted even when i genuinely like how it turned out. it’s just not what I’m here for, but I don’t have anything against it.
Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Everybody got their fics stolen in 2012-2016 Fanfiction days LMAO. It was like a Rite of Passage.
Have you ever co-written a fic before?
No, but I’ll run a new fic past a few writer friends that aren’t busy when I don’t feel 100% sure about it, and though @drillbeeautomaton doesn’t usually beta-read for me, she has been an Unwavering Pillar of Support when I’m having a 3 AM breakdown over my latest fic and for that she is an invaluable member of my Writing Squad LMAO
What’s your all-time favorite ship?
Probably Branch / Poppy from Trolls. No other dynamic has grabbed me like that one.
What was the first fandom you wrote for?
If we’re going way back, the first fic I ever wrote was a Spider-Man one-shot (yes, the infamous 2002 version with Tobey Maguire, please just let me be cringe in peace) but the first fic I had the guts to post online would have been a How To Train Your Dragon AU. Can’t remember all the exact details, but I do remember it was a modern-era high school AU, and it was absolutely terrible, and it has since been scrubbed from the internet. (Of course, nothing ever truly leaves the internet once it’s up there, so I’m sure an archived version of that fic still exists somewhere, but there is no way I’m looking it up. Let me have my illusion.)
What’s your favorite fic you’ve ever written?
You know, I think I’d have to say that title goes to only the sun. Don’t get me wrong, I know it’s not the greatest, and it’s actually my least popular Trolls fic, but it was nice to settle into Branch’s mind and just... wander around in there for a while.
tagged by: @geekgirles (thank you so much for thinking of me / including me! this was a super-cool game! 💙)
tagging: @drillbeeautomaton @1stlieutenanttwitchy @rmg91 @sneakyboymerlin @twigstarpikachutroll22 and anyone else who wants to do it. if you see this and you want to do it, just steal it and say i tagged ya. idc.
