Discovered in Russia in 1890, the Shigir Idol is one of the oldest known wooden sculptures, dating to approximately 12,000 years ago. It was found in a peat bog, which had preserved it.

The sculpture is 2.8 metres high, but its original height is thought to have been 5 metres or more. It was carved from a larch tree (approximately 159 years old at the time) using the jaws of a beaver and stone tools. On it are faces, hands, and zigzag lines.

It was apparently placed upright next to a lake before it fell into the bog, thus preserving it for over 12,000 years.

According to Thomas Terberger, a scholar of prehistory at Göttingen University in Germany:

“The idol was carved during an era of great climate change, when early forests were spreading across a warmer late glacial to postglacial Eurasia. The landscape changed, and the art—figurative designs and naturalistic animals painted in caves and carved in rock—did, too, perhaps as a way to help people come to grips with the challenging environments they encountered.”

It is currently on display in the Sverdlovsk Regional Museum of Local Lore in Russia.

Алколайф (english: alcolife), – folk style of life in Russia; a complex value system that links all segments of the population, time and space.

Alcolife is of ancient origin; having appeared as a means for survival and good mood, by the middle of the 19th century, thanks to the efforts of such great Russian associates as Dostoevsky (all his work) and Mendeleev (the dissertation "Discourse on the combination of alcohol with water"), alcolife became the core for all spiritual and carnal practitioners in Russia.

At present, under the influence of globalization processes and the strengthening of capitalism all over the world, alcolife, being a purely conservative and democratic phenomenon at the same time (the reason for this is the exceptional originality of the phenomenon, as well as the function of uniting the most bitter enemies - "братание"), does not spread among the broad masses outside the borders of the country of origin, but lets in all the best, and most often the worst, that comes into it from outside.

Thus, the boundaries of alcolife are blurred, its complex philosophical platform is destroyed, and there are attempts to pass off other ideological constructs as alcolife.

The last great literary text expressing the philosophy of alcolife can be called the poem "Moscow-Petushki" by the writer Venedikt Erofeev, who himself, despite the creation of a major theoretical work on the philosophy of alcolife, at the end of his life entered the bosom of the Catholic Church, thereby creating a precedent for mixing far from alcolife (see an excerpt from another important novel for alcolife, The Brothers Karamazov) of the western confession and a deep, untainted alcohol addiction.

The current state of the alcolife cannot be assessed and analyzed.
