Am I thinking too far into this, but is this the actual design idea behind Paracelsus and A.B.A ? Not only that but was their dynamic flipped and subverted across the games as time went on?

A.B.A was visually designed as distinctly pale, anaemic even, her blood described as tinged with mercury. Her original theme song was called “Quicksilver” which is another name for mercury. She was very passive originally, easily influenced by Paracelsus. This fits the motif of the ‘White Queen’.

Originally, Paracelsus was the ‘active, volatile’ one. Described as a demon (motif linked to sulfur), actually having a form called the ‘Sanguine Gale’ (hence red) and obsession with blood that also brings in the concept of red and volatility. His fits those aspects as the ‘Red King’.

Paracelsus for better or worse, was the first living thing A.B.A ever encountered and his relationship and manipulation of her has shaped her.

Then by STRIVE, their dynamic has flipped.

Paracelsus is now passive, literally sludge. Officially described as a weapon that has new true form and takes the form defined by the emotions and desires of its wielder. As I was informed, in Jealous Rage, the words on his half of the form nearest his head is Azoth, the alchemical name for mercury or the ultimate solvent. He has become the White Queen of the two (omg the yuri Paracelsus fans were right…)

Meanwhile A.B.A is all volatility and rage. Being the definitive active force that disrupts and defines Paracelsus’ very form. She has become the dominating Red King now.

What does this mean, what is Daisuke’s vision? If we follow the goal of the alchemical concepts at play, then the goal is the marriage/union of the Red King and the White Queen to form the rebis, the magnum opus.

Oh wait looks like that might actually be a goal in Guilty Gear too

Starring: Ruki Mukami (CV: Takahiro Sakurai), Azusa Mukami (CV: Daisuke Kishio), Kino (CV: Tomoaki Moaeno)

Plot: Kino downloads a new app based on a board game. As he starts the game, he is suddenly sucked into his phone by a powerful force. Meanwhile, at the Mukami manor, Azusa asks Ruki for help with installing the very same game, resulting in the two of them experiencing the same mishap as Kino. The three boys now find themselves in what they quickly deduce to be the world of the game they were trying to play. Now they must (try) to work together to win the game in order to get back to the real world.

My Thoughts: Below the cut. They are mostly centered around Ruki but honestly what else would you expect from me by this point?

Anyone who's listened to the other CDs in this board game series will know that they are absolute gold. Particularly the one starring Shuu, Reiji, and Subaru. Truly Dialovers crack at its finest.

While I don't consider this CD to be as funny as the one I just mentioned, nor as funny as a lot of the other silly ones in general tbh, I still had a good time listening to it, and genuinely laughed at some points throughout. And ultimately that is what I wanted to get out of the CD in the first place, so I have no complaints. Hopefully it got – or if you haven't listened to it yet, gets – at least one laugh out of you as well!

(Spoiler-ish thoughts below)

I found the dynamic between Ruki and Kino to be pretty entertaining. These two do NOT get along, as to be expected with how clashing their personalities are and how their previous interactions have gone. They piss each other off pretty consistently in this CD, even focusing on arguing with each other while facing an active threat. I enjoyed their bickering and digs at each other but I did feel bad for poor Azusa who just wants everyone to be friends and also y'know deal with aforementioned threat. I'd probably say that he acts the most mature here, most of the time anyway.

Speaking of Azusa the interactions between him and Ruki are also great but for the exact opposite reason. Their relationship is so wholesome and sweet, and it's so obvious that Ruki has a soft spot for his baby brother (which Azusa does try to take some advantage of near the end lol).

The highlight of the CD though for me is when Ruki tries to capture the golden rabbit by telling it in the sternest most commanding tone of voice to jump into his arms. Sakurai's delivery here is Perfect (what else is new tho) and made even better by the fact that it's directed at a literal rabbit. I also love how genuinely puzzled Ruki is that his foolproof tactic fails. Stellar stuff that honestly made this CD 100% worth buying.

It does feel as though - in true silly tokuten fashion - Ruki's IQ has dropped a few digits, but it doesn't bother me much in the context of these CDs. After all they're not meant to be taken seriously, but rather for the listener to simply enjoy the chaos and absurdity.

00:00 Yuma: But really. Azusa always takes the good stuff right from under your nose, huh? He fuckin’ outsmarted us…

Kou (with food in his mouth): I know, right? Kitten was gone before I knew it—it’s our fault for not paying attention, though.

Ruki: Hey. Don’t talk while you’re eating.

Kou: Okay…

[You silently stare at your plate of food.]

Ruki: What’s wrong, Livestock? Have you had enough to eat?

[You don’t respond.]

Ruki: You’ve lost your appetite, haven’t you? Well, I suppose that’s only reasonable, given what you’ve been through.

Azusa: You’re not eating much, either… Ruki.

Ruki: Hm. I’m not very hungry, either.

[Meanwhile, Yuma is happily scarfing down the food.]

Yuma (with food in his mouth): Y’all’re almost makin’ me look bad for havin’ a healthy appetite. 

Kou (with food in his mouth): You can’t really fight when you’re hungry.

Ruki: It’s alright. 

[You want to talk to Ruki, but...]

Ruki: Wait. Let’s take the time to talk later, so you can tell us about all that happened before you came here. It’s not something we should discuss during dinner, is it?

[You agree.]

Ruki: Good. Eat a little more, then. If you want, I can cook you something else that’ll boost your digestion.

[You tell him you’ll just eat a few more bites.]

Ruki: I see. Then I will do the same.

[You eat together for a little while longer. After dinner, you tell the Mukami brothers everything you know—most importantly, about Karl Heinz’ alleged illegitimate child.]

01:52 Ruki: Oh…

Yuma: Karl Heinz’s got an illegitimate child? No way.

Kou: Is there some kind of proof?

Azusa: Then, it might actually be false…

Ruki: It might. We should take this with a grain of salt.

Yuma: The Demon World’s in chaos. Those Ghouls, the other four Species…

Azusa: Everyone’s fighting… to rule the Demon World…

Kou: That’s because a certain someone (1) is not doing a proper job of governing it in the first place.

Ruki: That certainly plays a big part in it, but even if he had welcomed his powers and faced his responsibilities head-on, he could not have prevented this chaos.

Kou: That’s true, but…

Ruki: We should not expect anything from him. Especially not now.

Yuma: What’re we gonna do, though? If we let those rioting idiots march on Eden, aren’t we the ones avoidin’ responsibility because we didn’t protect our home?

Azusa: Do we… even have the strength to do that…?

Ruki: With that attitude, no.

Yuma: Ruki…!

Ruki: We’re no purebloods, but Lord Karl Heinz gave us this life. We are His sons.   We have no reason to be afraid just because some lowlife is claiming to be Karl Heinz’ son, don’t you think? Besides, why do you assume our powers are inferior? We were, without a doubt, given life by the grace of Karl Heinz’ power. We are simply prejudiced because we cannot become Adam. Because we used to be human. If the four of us join forces as brothers, we can protect Eden. If you all want to protect this place, that is.

04:12 Yuma: ‘Course we do. D’ya really think we’re that heartless? Right, y’all?

Kou: Of course!

Azusa: I want to… protect Eden, too…

Kou: We really convinced ourselves that we won’t stand a chance… that we can’t do it just because we used to be human. 

Yuma: We did.

Azusa: We won’t know… until we try.

Ruki: Exactly, that’s it. You cannot know anything unless you try.

[You start fidgeting.]

Kou: What do you think, Kitten? Are we doomed?

[You half-heartedly tell him that you don’t think that at all.]

Kou: Thank you, but could’ve said so with a less anxious look on your face.

Yuma: You do think we’re doomed, don’t ya?

[You answer honestly this time.]

Ruki: You’re afraid of us getting hurt… Heh. That sounds like something you would say. I’m grateful that you think so, though. Unfortunately, the situation is so dire that we cannot avoid making sacrifices. I’m fully prepared to make sacrifices. You all understand this, right?

05:37 Azusa: I understand.

Kou: Yeah.

Yuma: Yep.

[You agree, too.]

Yuma: Heh. Aren’t you perceptive today? I thought you’d straight up try ‘n talk us out of it.

[You tell Yuma that you feel for them.]

Azusa: You understand how we feel…?

[You tell them you know what it’s like to lose your home.]

Kou: Ah. That’s true… Kitten doesn’t have a place to call home anymore either, after all.

Yuma: Then why don’tcha call this place your home? We didn’t have anythin’ before we came here either. This is our home now.

Azusa: Yes, Eve… I think it’s a good idea. I would be happy… if you protected Eden with us.

[You vow to help them.]

Ruki: Then it’s settled.

[The scene shifts to Ruki’s inner monologue.] 

07:03 Ruki: And just like that, we vowed to work together to protect Eden as best we could. It is a fundamental instinct—a desire, even—of all living creatures to wish to be close to something. That’s why it’s no pity to make sacrifices to protect what we love. We will protect Eden, and we will protect Eve.

it's really funny how without fail Lupin always calls Daisuke Jigen, his best friend and constant partner whom he lives with, by his last name. Meanwhile he calls Goemon Ishikawa, the guy who fucks off randomly and was introduced trying to kill him, by his first name. Why is that. I can't comprehend this. It's hilarious.

' the notepad in his clutch gently shuts, and the pen that's been in his other hand returns itself to a place in his pocket. hiwatari's gaze, though distantly cast behind the lenses of his glasses as always, are lacking in any sharpness. ' niwa. are you alright? ' he's not sure whether to consider these symptoms of sleep deprivation or just the other's airheadedness. you seem out of it, is what he thinks but doesn't say. at this rate... maybe he'd try resorting to other, better methods to snap a little energy into the red-headed boy. ' you wouldn't happen to have any news for me ... about dark, would you? it's always been law to cooperate with the police during any sort of investigation, but i'm sure you already knew that. ' that the criminal in front of him willfully disobeyed, after all, was just a separate facet of the fact... just as it was that azumano's very own special commander adhered to an age-old bet, and kept himself from cuffing the boy whose true identity he knew day after day.

He was absolutely beyond exhausted. Having been up all night doing work. Dark had some art to steal, and Daisuke had to help. Not to mention he still had to do his homework once the heist was over! DARK got to SLEEP.

HE had to go to SCHOOL.

"I-I'm fine, Hiwatari-kun." He managed, though his tone belied his energy level. Extremely low.

"If it's info about Dark you want, shouldn't you ask Saehara? He's always reporting something on that guy. Why would I know anything about him other than his fangirls?" Fangirls that he had to run away from after Dark caught a glimpse of Harada and transformed.

This had to be the week from hell-- or something akin to it.

"I had to stay up all night studying-- we've got a big test this Friday."
