currently stuck at my cousins house warming party, so if i may please request some ashley/josh to soothe my souls :’] since we Both been thinkin of em as of late 🤝

The problem with Josh (and what a loaded statement that was) was the simple fact jokes never really stayed jokes with him; Ashley knew that, had seen it proven time and time again in all the time they'd been friends, and even so, she'd gone along with the stupid pact thinking it, surely, would be the exception to the rule.

But then it caught on.

"Hey," he said, popping in from the next aisle over, holding what appeared to be a decorative jar full of nothing but human eyeballs the same way a waiter might hold a fine vintage, "whaddya think - for the wedding, I mean?"

And, as she always did, Ashley dropped what she was doing to pretend to think it over, going so far as to set down the plastic package of Halloween costume bits so she could better tap at her chin before shaking her head.

Instead of mourning his loss, Josh nodded in sagely acceptance, sighing, "Yeah, you're right, you're right, all the red would clash with the blue-and-grey thing we're going for...see, this is why I'm marrying you, Ashley Brown, you keep me grounded."

"Uh huh, well we've still got a little way to go before we hit 30 and those invites go out, so you could probably wear me down on putting jars of eyeballs at all the guest tables if you really tried," she teased, sticking her tongue his way until he disappeared down the aisle again and she was left to riffle through the box of off-brand costumes again, wondering why oh why her cheeks were tingling like that.

Chris barely looked up from his phone as Josh walked over, hardly even lifted his eyes when he leaned on the wall beside him to look at the screen over his shoulder. "Trying to see...if...de-escalation rooms are a thing..." he explained without needing to be asked, frowning as (yet another) internet search turned up a whopping nothing, "I thought you were supposed to be..."

"Yeah, uh huh, roger that, the eagle has landed, Cochise." He held the bat up, giving it a little wave to catch his attention, then just as quickly grasped it with both hands again, keeping it solidly held behind his back; "We just neglected to take one teeny-tiny detail into account, see, and that's that, uh - " he'd seen it coming, so he didn't flinch, but snickered when Chris did beside him, " - there are many tools one can use to wreak havoc, young grasshopper, and unfortunately, Ash has decided her hands work just fine."

After chucking the last of the chintzy vases at the wall, Ashley let out the sort of sound heard on wilderness survival shows (usually after a contestant managed to wrestle a bear to death or pulled themselves off a cliff before the camera crews rushed them to keep them from dying), her legs went out from under her and she plopped to the ground in a sprawl, her shoulders rising and falling heavily with exertion.

"Oh thank fuck," Josh started, though Chris just kept typing away into his phone, "I think she's worn herself ou - nope, wait, shit, there she goes again."
