How much does a conference room cost in Derby?
Derby is set amidst the magnificent Derbyshire countryside, and it offers plenty of options to both business travellers and tourists alike. The city is situated within easy reach of M1 and has good direct links to London and Nottingham East Midlands Airport. Hence, it is also an ideal destination for conferences, corporate events and activities. Read on if you are interested in knowing how to get the best value for money when hiring a conference venue. We have put together this guide containing all the information about conference room cost in Derby.
Average Cost
According to Tagvenue platform data, the average cost of renting a meeting room in the UK is a £65 hire fee per hour. The pricing module can vary – it can be a fixed price paid by the day, hour or session. The cost usually covers the room hire, some basic equipment and refreshments depending on the packages available. A per-person package known as Day Delegate Rate (DDR) is a popular payment option for corporate events. It covers room hire, refreshments options and a normal AV package. In Derby, DDR pricing may range from £20 to £100 depending on what you are looking for from your meeting space.
Size Matters
The conference room cost in Derby is determined by the size of the room and its location. The price will also depend on which type of event you are holding, such as a meeting or seminar, and how many delegates. Similarly, if your event requires additional equipment such as audio-visual equipment or catering services this will also increase costs substantially.
The most basic conference room hire package costs between £30 to £50 per hour, depending on how many people are using it at any given time. This includes all equipment needed for your event – such as chairs, tables and dividers – plus access to wi-fi and parking. If you need more than one room for your event, then this could cost up to £100 per hour depending on how much space you require to accommodate the number of people you’re expecting.
What are your options?
Backed by a rich industrial heritage and Georgian architecture, Derby offers a variety of meeting and conference venues. From historic venues and sporting venues to historic buildings and hotels, there is something for everyone. Below is the list of some options in Derby to help you determine the conference room cost in Derby:
The Stuart Hotel Breadsall Priory Hotel and Country Club Derby Mickleover Hotel Holiday Inn Derby Riverlights Derbyshire County Cricket Club Focus on your requirements
When choosing a venue, it is important to consider the purpose of your conference room hire. For example, if you are looking for a place where people can come together and focus on the task at hand, the venue should have enough natural lighting and ventilation. If there are other things that need attending during this time (such as food or refreshments), then these should also be taken into account when making decisions about where exactly you want them located within your space.
For example, the meeting rooms at The Stuart Hotel have natural daylight and air conditioning. The main room, The Suite comes with its private bar, own separate entrance, and cloakroom and the hotel has an in-house restaurant to enjoy delicious food. You can also opt for their bespoke packages that include refreshments, free parking and equipment hire.
Food & Drinks
You will also need catering for your guests, and this can be provided at most venues for an additional charge if it does not form part of the hire cost of the venue. Food and drink are an important part of any business meeting, so you should consider bringing in a caterer or at least hiring a venue with in-house restaurant & bar facilities. There are many different types of catering available, including buffet-style meals, hot meals served on trays while guests eat them, snacks available throughout the day (such as sandwiches or salads) and full-cooked dinners etc.
Equipment Hire
The conference cost in Derby will also depend on the equipment you choose. A well-equipped business centre will have all these things, which may otherwise need to be hired separately. They may include:
A video projector with a screen and speakers (or an external monitor) A sound system, including microphones and wireless headphones Video conferencing equipment, if required Stationary Conclusion
In conclusion, the conference room cost in Derby will depend on what type of space you need. The main consideration for many businesses is their budget and whether or not it will allow them to choose their preferred venue and facilities. If you can afford it, then by all means go ahead. There is nothing worse than having a great conference room but being unable to use it because of financial constraints.
If you need a convenient location, modern facilities and a venue with parking, then our team at The Stuart Hotel Derby will be happy to help you to plan your business conference. We can also create bespoke packages that suit your needs better.

Some Exciting News
Warnings: none
This takes place in the snug at the Garrison. The entire Shelby family is sitting around the small room, as Tommy has called a meeting.
“Sorry I’m late everyone! I was running some errands and lost track of the time,” (Y/N) quickly apologizes as she walks through the door of the snug. She catches her breath and turns to face the family that’s gathered around the room.
They’re already responding to her statement before she can move further into the room; telling her that it was fine and that they knew to expect this from her by now. This wasn’t the first time she’d been late to a meeting before.
(Y/N) blushes at their responses as she walks the short distance to where Tommy is sitting in a chair. She glances down at him as she stops behind him and sets her hands on his shoulders. He turns to look up at her, his smile letting her know that he wasn’t bothered by her lateness.
“Now that we’re all here...does anyone have anything they’d like to start off with? Or should we get down to business?” Tommy addresses the room, looking around at each of his family members as they stay silent. After a few quiet moments, Tommy nods his head: “alright, business it is then,” he says before going into the numbers that the shop was bringing in, as well as the success they had at the Cheltenham derby.
“Things are only looking up from here,” Arthur comments once Tommy’s done speaking.
“You’re damn right about that,” John agrees with his older brother, a smile on his face as he sips his whiskey.
“Are you boys planning on going to every race after this for protection?” Polly questions with her one eyebrow raised.
“Yes,” Tommy nods his head before continuing, “for protection towards Kimber’s men and to also take bets while acting under our legal liscence now. John’ll be the head of that operation and he’ll take however many men he sees fit with him when he goes.”
“Fair enough,” Polly nods, pleased with the answer she got.
“Any other questions?” Tommy asks once the conversation about their strategies for the upcoming races is finished. There’s silence amongst the group, and Tommy takes that as his ok to continue on, “before this meeting is adjourned, (Y/N) and I have something we’d like to share...” he trails off, glancing around the room before he turns to look at his wife.
“Get on with it then...what is it?” Arthur calls out, impatiently waiting for whatever it was to be said.
Tommy raises his eyebrows slightly as he looks up at (Y/N), as if he’s seeing if she wants to start, or if he should. “We’re going to have to hire on some more help around the shop...” he trails off, hoping his wife would take over where he left the sentence.
“Why’s that?” Ada questions before (Y/N)’s able to say anything, her eyebrows furrowed in confusion.
“Doctor says I’m not supposed to be around anything stressful while I’m with child, so I figured staying away from the betting floor would do me well,” (Y/N) finally makes the announcement, and is immediately met by hollers and cheers from the other family members.
“Good luck gettin’ away from stress with Tommy as a husband there, (Y/N)!” John hollers jokingly, making (Y/N) laugh and shake her head. She squeezes Tommy’s shoulders and glances down at him, her heart swelling as he’s sitting there with a smile on his face as he takes in his family’s reactions.
Soon enough, Ada, Polly, and Esme are all coming over to (Y/N) to offer their congratulations’. (Y/N) happily accepts their hugs and kind words with a smile. She’s overjoyed that her and Tommy’s news is now out to those they care about most, and now she can’t wait until their little bundle of joy finally joins the family.

There’s a nasally howl from the neighbour’s place. Izuku looks up – it’s the very loud, very blond guy living in the unit opposite. They’re technically in separate blocks but their balconies are close enough they can see into each other’s living rooms. He’s dancing around in his pyjamas. Yodelling at the top of his lungs off-key, swinging his Pomeranian around by the armpits like a furry ragdoll. “You’re a dog! You’re a fluffy little yellow dog and you’re a pain in the ass but you’re still my favourite shit-stain, yeah!”
Izuku bursts out laughing. The neighbour’s head whips around. He yelps when he sees him, tossing the dog on the couch and scrambling out of view to hide in the hall.
Izuku drops the watering can and runs back inside to find his phone.Small Might: Guys. I've decided i have a crush on my neighbour.

'The rules are simple. Battle of the Bands. Local bands send in a single track to the radio station, and ten tracks are selected. Over the coming month, the songs play on the station and listeners vote on the top five. The top 5 play a live concert as part of a music festival, then the top 3 at a larger, indoor venue. The top two have the honor of opening on the first stop of All Might’s retirement tour – here. In Izuku’s home town. And finally, the winner gets the ultimate prize. Getting to spend the rest of the tour, forty cities, across the country as All Might’s opener. Three months. Same tour bus. Mina pulled up a video of a young man, seemingly teen, dancing to a popular new hit, and Izuku felt his heart drop to his stomach. His skin prickled and felt clammy as he started sweating nervously, not daring to move or make a noise. His eyes were glued to the screen but he didn’t see anything – his brain was too busy going into overdrive and freaking out.
Because Mina was showing him a video of himself. The one he uploaded last night.
How on Earth did she find this? He had barely a few thousand views, he wasn’t popular, and it’s not like he was even any good, especially compared to her or Kacchan–
“That move was sexy as hell,” Kacchan said, and that was when Izuku realized that his childhood friend – his longtime crush – also leaned in to watch the video Mina was showing him.

"So after doing all that," Katsuki says, "you're just going to settle here? Tatting up wannabe bad boys?"
"You think all guys who have a lot of tattoos are wannabes?" Midoriya asks, so smoothly that it throws Katsuki.
"Wh—no, I mean—maybe!" Katsuki says. "You'd know best, wouldn't you? Are you a bad boy?"
The words are out of his mouth before he even realizes it, and he regrets them immediately. There's a figurative list of things that one should never do, and probably high up on it is asking dark-haired sailors with ocean green eyes and black swirls of ink all across their barely concealed muscles if they are bad boys.
--
Katsuki thinks he has everything he needs in life: a successful pet shop, an occasionally reliable assistant, and the unconditional love of the twenty puppies he’s raising for adoption. But when the tattoo parlor next door hires Midoriya Izuku, a hot sailor with an affinity for dogs, it makes Katsuki wonder if he might need something more.
Like… a piece of that ass. Maybe. He’s figuring it the hell out as he goes.

Before Gatsby: the Wildest Parties of the 1900′s
Tumblr media
Contrary to what the popular imagination and Julian Fellowes tell us, the upper-class entertainment in the Edwardian era wasn’t all staid dinner parties and debutante balls. If Horrible Histories are ever going to have a book dedicated to this specific decade, I wish they would name it The Extra Edwardians. I couldn’t  incorporate all this info into my own f/f Edwardian WIP, so I’d be very glad to share it with you.
If you are a histfic writer looking to spice up your WIP, your characters can take the cues from:
- Marchesa Casati. A daughter of a fabulously wealthy Italian industrialist and a wife of an equally fabulously wealthy Marquis, she lived in Venice, where she could be glimpsed down the Grand Canal under a parasol of peacock feathers, and was dubbed ‘a sun-goddess’ by her contemporaries. When the cloudy sky dared to threaten her party’s Aesthetic, she strung up an artificial moon that actually moved against the sky. She also kept a whole menagerie of pumas and leopards, and commissioned satin-lined boxes from her jewellers so that she could travel with her snakes. She had one particular snake with a golden hue wrapped around her neck sometimes and tricked some guests into thinking it a necklace... until it started to move. Her iconic Look consisted of whitened face, black-lined eyes, and auburn-dyed hair piled high. Think David Bowie meets Queen Elizabeth.
- George Kessler. He made his fortune in the Gilded Age New York as American agent for Moët & Chandon, and spent it rather creatively. His Gondola Party in 1905 could give anything conceived in the Roaring Twenties a run for its money. At first, he wanted to hire a dirigible to perch atop the roof of the Savoy Hotel (as one does) and have his guests dine while floating several hundred feet above the city. After the Savoy objected for some reason, Kessler spent $15,000 to Venice-ize the hotel’s ballroom and courtyard instead. The courtyard was flooded to create a lagoon, and live goldfish, swans, and ducks were let into the water. 120 electricians wired tiny electric lights into the ceiling to create the effect of a starlit sky. 80 guests dined aboard a giant gilded gondola, served by waiters dressed as gondoliers, while Enrico Caruso serenaded them. To mark the end of the evening, a baby elephant called Jumbo Junior was led in. He was carrying on his back an enormous cake.
(His comparatively more modest party included transforming the same hotel’s winter garden into the vision of a North Pole, creating ‘snowdrifts’ out of silver tissue and hiring an army of dwarves dressed as snowmen to be the waiters)
- Anyone swept by the Ballets Russes craze of 1911. The fashionable London hostesses were lucky that Anna Pavlova was so petite, or else they would not have been able to fit her into those large baskets of roses they had her carried into their drawing rooms in to perform at their parties.
- The Savoy Ball. This fancy dress ball offered 250 guineas and a four-hundred-stone diamond and gold pendant as a prize for the best costume in 1913. The competition was stiff: there was Earl of Shrewsbury as an Apache Indian with full feather headdress and a knife, Princess Kawananako of Honolulu in a cape of yellow feathers worn over a black dress (forming, together, the colours of the Honolulu flag), and Jennie Cornwallis-West, a.k.a. Churchill’s mother, as Empress Theodora in an embroidered Byzantine cape, not to mention the countless Pompadours and medieval princesses. Anna Pavolva ended up being a runner-up, getting a 60 guinea-worth beauty case for her native Russian costume.
- Lady Michelham. Her approach was more elegant than over-the-top, but still:  one course at her dinner partly was made to resemble a lighthouses, surrounded by ortolans representing seagulls, with surf made of white sauce. Also, those handwritten menus inscribed on the surface of water-lily leaves were nice.
- Hector Baltazzi. He was so exhiliarated by winning the Derby once that he had his chef float a pearl in every plate of watercress soup served at the celebratory dinner party.

hats and pastels and mint juleps, oh my ! as jockeys and spectators alike jostle for spots on derby day, our merry band of thieves slips into the mix unnoticed. their targets have only gotten bigger and bolder as their success mounts, and their confidence has soared as preparations are finalized. but a sinister reminder lurks in the back of their minds, lingering in the form of a note — they aren’t alone.
the saturday portion of the event on may 9th will commence at 2 PM EST. the sunday portion of the event on may 10th will commence at 6 PM EST.
below you’ll find the goals & individual team roles for the heist. these are simply preliminary roles — as i mentioned in the heist guide doc, nothing is set in stone, and your choices and rolls can affect the outcome ! as such, feel free to divert from these tasks, switch them around, modify them, or ignore them completely in favor of a different strategy.
IMPORTANT INFO.
all members have comms in their ears to be able to communicate with one another, though it’s considered best practice to go through the eye in the sky as they have the best vantage point and can work with the mastermind to communicate what to do next / relay information.
remember that the heist is taking place in louisville, kentucky, at churchill downs for the kentucky derby. the in-character start time for the event is may 9th, 2020 at 12 PM.
the dress code for churchill downs is track casual, so your character should be dressed accordingly if they are posing as a guest. if they’re infiltrating the mansion, however, their attire should be more formal. finally, if they’re in disguise as a staff member, they should blend in with the rest of the employees ( for example, this is what waiters in the mansion wear ). concierges, however, are expected to adhere to the same dress code as guests, albeit in a more subdued manner.
OOC reminders: remember, you don’t have to roll every time you have a turn ! dialogue / normal actions are perfectly fine and can help spur things along. also, if your next move doesn’t depend on anyone else’s response, you can write it up ahead of time while other members are taking their turn.
GOALS.
FIRST TARGET — part of a deal going down in an ultra-exclusive club called the mansion: a flawless 100-carat diamond that fetched $25 million at an auction in 2015. access ( either as a guest or staff member ) has been pre-authorized by eye in the sky.
the purchase is set to go down between an unidentified seller & buyers — all identities have been kept secret for the sake of the exchange. from what the team has sussed out, it’s highly possible that payment has already been arranged & this meeting / handoff is mostly a formality. however, it’s not completely certain. they do know that there is a code that the seller has arranged to ensure the validity of the deal, but there’s no electronic record of what the code is.
the crew must dispose of the buyers, figure out the code, and obtain the briefcase containing the diamond by any means necessary. it has a complex electronic lock system that eye in the sky can only take care of in person.
members assigned to this target: ace in the hole, getaway driver, inside man, mastermind, star of the show, watchdog.
SECOND TARGET — the team is targeting a chunk of the $30 million ( more or less ) that’s physically spent on betting every year at the track.
multi-pronged attack: eye in the sky will focus on digital bets while other members target cash bets. they must encourage high bets, collect the money, then ferry it outside of the mansion without arousing suspicion.
members assigned to this target: bleeding heart, career criminal, eye in the sky, hired gun, new kid on the block, second in command.
EXTRA INFO — this is more important for the second target, but these are the types of bets often placed at races such as the kentucky derby ( info was taken from a betting guide here ). be wary of guests with real stakes in the game, such as breeders or owners of thoroughbred farms. some may not know anything about their investments, but others may poke holes in your logic. they should be few and far between in such an exclusive area of the derby, but you never know who’s taken a special interest.
WIN — bet on the horse you think you will win the kentucky derby.
PLACE — get paid the place price if your horse finishes first or second.
SHOW — a show bet pays the least, but you win and get paid the show price if your horse finishes first, second or third.
EXACTA — predict the first two horses in the correct order.
TRIFECTA — predict the first three horses in the correct order.
SUPERFECTA — predict the first four horses in the correct order.
SUPER HIGH FIVE — predict the first five horses in the correct order.
KENTUCKY OAKS / DERBY DOUBLE — pick the winner of the $1 million kentucky oaks (for 3-year-old fillies) and the $3 million kentucky derby.
ROLES.
SATURDAY / SECOND TARGET.
BLEEDING HEART — pose as a reporter from town & country magazine, given exclusive access to the mansion as part of a story you’re writing on the modern derby. this will give you the freedom to talk to both guests and fellow team members without appearing suspicious. stick close to second in command if you can and help encourage higher bets, under the guise of analyzing the betting habits of the rich & famous. however, you’re free to check in on other teammates if they need assistance.
CAREER CRIMINAL — attend the event as a guest, preferably undercover, accompanied by new kid on the block. converse with other guests to drive up betting prices ( discuss your own bets, encourage more / higher bets ). work with bleeding heart & second in command to accomplish this as well as doing it on your own. #peerpressure
EYE IN THE SKY — disguise yourself as a high-level technician who has arrived to oversee electronic betting systems & make sure nothing goes awry during the races. when granted access to the back rooms of the mansion, work to redistribute electronic bets into an offshore bank account set up for this heist. communicate with the team via comms to make sure they’re getting by / update them about your progress.
HIRED GUN — go undercover as a bartender / waiter / staff member in order to gain access to the kitchen and back rooms of the mansion, accompanying eye in the sky so that they’re allowed through more easily with a staff escort. assist with collection of cash bets from second in command, or continue to assist eye in the sky if they need backup. stay alert on comms and dispatch of any threats that crop up, including guests or staff that ask too many questions.
NEW KID ON THE BLOCK — pose as a concierge for career criminal. guests can only access the mansion when accompanied by their concierge, so stick close. if necessary, function as a messenger between hired gun & second in command, especially in regards to physically carrying cash bets for an easy getaway once the heist is completed.
SECOND IN COMMAND — go undercover as one of the mansion’s betting advisors. accept as many cash bets as possible, and actively encourage them to promote a higher payout for the heist. work with bleeding heart & career criminal to gather higher & more complex bets, such as trifecta, superfecta, and super high five ( see definitions of bets above ). as a supposed expert, guests will trust your expertise.
SUNDAY / FIRST TARGET.
ACE IN THE HOLE — pose as a buyer for the diamond alongside star of the show. find the seller, and obtain the diamond either by convincing them that you’ve already paid or by alerting other teammates to create a distraction to allow it to be stolen from under their noses. preferably, the theft will occur seamlessly with the code discovered by fellow team members.
GETAWAY DRIVER — assist mastermind & watchdog with dispatching the true buyer(s) and finding out the code for the deal. communicate this information to inside man ASAP so they can inform other team members. stick around to mingle as a guest once this has been completed; if things go awry, cause a distraction to facilitate a last ditch opportunity for the theft to still take place.
INSIDE MAN — go undercover as a concierge for ace in the hole & star of the show. guests can only access the mansion when accompanied by their concierge, so stick close. keep a close eye out for getaway driver, mastermind, or watchdog so that they can communicate the code to you.
MASTERMIND — accompany getaway driver & watchdog to discover & waylay the true buyer(s) as well as find out the code for the deal. communicate this information to inside man ASAP so they can inform other team members. once this has been completed, mingle as a guest and check in on ace in the hole & star of the show if they need assistance with obtaining the diamond.
STAR OF THE SHOW — pose as a buyer for the diamond alongside ace in the hole. find the seller, convince them that one ( or both ) of you are part of the deal, and obtain the diamond by any means necessary. ideally, this will be done quietly with the code discovered by other team members.

The Stuart Hotel
Breadsall Priory Hotel and Country Club
Derby Mickleover Hotel
Holiday Inn Derby Riverlights
Derbyshire County Cricket Club
Focus on your requirements
A video projector with a screen and speakers (or an external monitor)
A sound system, including microphones and wireless headphones
Video conferencing equipment, if required
Stationary
Conclusion
In conclusion, the conference room cost in Derby will depend on what type of space you need. The main consideration for many businesses is their budget and whether or not it will allow them to choose their preferred venue and facilities. If you can afford it, then by all means go ahead. There is nothing worse than having a great conference room but being unable to use it because of financial constraints.
If you need a convenient location, modern facilities and a venue with parking, then our team at The Stuart Hotel Derby will be happy to help you to plan your business conference. We can also create bespoke packages that suit your needs better.

Part 19
"Are you enjoying your visit to Cordonia?" Ana De Luca asked.
"I always do." Ryan replied, smiling at the camera. "I vacation here every chance I get. Filming The Earl's Undoing in Cordonia is the dream work environment."
"This is my first time visiting and now I see why Ryan talks about it all the time. It's gorgeous and my wife is dropping some major hints to us buying a house here. I encourage everyone to see The Earl's Undoing so I can afford a down payment." Chris answered with a chuckle.
Ana turned to Lauren. "What do you think of Cordonia?"
Lauren coyly looked down. "It’s incredible. The people are so welcoming and I simply adore it. I have been so busy learning my lines that I have really only been out very late at night. I hope, once filming is completed, to see everything in the light of day."
Ryan and Chris shared a brief glance and kept their smiles in place. Holly stood off next to the cameraman and nearly broke her clipboard at Lauren's words. She didn't know if it was a good thing or not that Thomas and Amanda were off on their own for the week, touring the different locations for the movie.
The interview continued with more subtle hints of Lauren and Thomas being close to one another. Ryan oozed his charm to draw Ana's attention away from asking follow-up questions. Chris also worked in tandem to Ryan in an attempt to keep the interview strictly on the movie.
"Amanda hired Jax Matsuo of New York to teach Ryan and I how to fence. That man moves with a speed like no one else I have ever seen before. I'm pretty sure that if we had to really fight him with swords, we would be giving this interview through a seance." Chris joked.
Ryan laughed and added that Chris was jealous because he had learned faster. Lauren indulgently smiled at their good natured hazing. She shook her head at their teasing and leaned toward Ana. "With these two characters, I think I am forgiven for needing a mature distraction every now and then."
Everyone's heads jerked up at the loud crack. Holly mouthed sorry and hid the two pieces of her clipboard behind her. Ana quickly wrapped up the interview and told her camera man to erase the last part after Ryan's teasing.
Lauren glared at Holly before promising to give Ana another interview whenever she liked. "With Thomas away, my time is completely free."
Holly kept a business like tone. "Ms. Benefield exaggerates. Her time is filled with fittings and rehearsal. Thomas and Amanda left to scout out the filming locations." She winked suggestively at Ana. "Thomas made certain it was just the two of them."
Ana smiled warmly. "Lady Amanda does bring out a side in Thomas that I haven't seen before."
Addison joined them and gushed at that. "Holly and I were able to see firsthand their romance unfold." She sighed dramatically while placing the back of her hand on her forehead. "All the shy, longing looks and brush of hands was so cute. Ugh. I just wanted to tie them together and throw them in a candlelit room filled with rose petals."
Ana's interest piqued at the picture Addison painted. "I would love to get a rare exclusive of yours and Holly's perspective of their relationship. Not only would movie fans love it, but the people of Cordonia would very much like a peek into Lady Amanda's personal life. There have only been a few gentlemen to catch her eye in the past. Cordonians are in alt to see her not only married but so in love."
Lauren glared at the two who had turned her offering for scandal into some kind of love fest. She opened her mouth to only shut it when Ana said goodbye to everyone. "Don't forget Holly to set up a time for you and Addison to come by."
Once the reporter and crew were gone, Holly turned on Lauren. "You forgot to mention the title of the movie."
Lauren innocently covered her mouth. Her eyes widened. "Whoops. I will try and remember to do so the next time I am interviewed."
"Your contract specifically states you do so in every interview. Forget again, and I will inform Thomas." Holly warned.
"By all means," Lauren replied, her eyes narrowing. "Do tell Mr. Hunt. I believe he knows I am the only actress for the role. I'm sure whatever disciplinary actions he chooses will be the right ones."
She left without another word. Holly threw her broken clipboard down on the ground and stomped on it. "Aahhh! I HATE HER!"
Ryan knelt down and removed the sharp pieces embedded in her sandal. "You might need to go to our fencing session tonight and release your rage. The swords aren't nearly as dangerous as this."
Chris stepped back from the look on Holly's face. "I might develop food poisoning tonight and miss practice."
Ryan stood up and placed his hands on Holly's shoulders. "Hey, you've worked with horrible people before. Be grateful you don't have a passionate love scene with her like we do."
Chris checked to make sure they were actually alone. "Is there really no chance she could be replaced?"
"Not that we could find." Holly muttered.
Ryan slowly smiled. "We could if she voluntarily leaves."
Everyone stared at him. "What do you mean?" Addison asked. "The contracts are air tight."
Chris' eyes lit with excitment. "He's right! Thomas always has a clause that an actor has the right to leave with no penalty before filming begins."
Ryan nodded. "All we need is a more compelling reason for her to leave. And depending on how we time things, we might need to delay the start of filming by another week or two. I--" he looked down at Holly in surprise when she hugged him and kissed his cheek.
"You are officially my favorite actor now." She pulled her phone out. "Let me call in someone who I think can help us with this."
Half an hour later, Drake walked in. He was finishing a phone call and a wicked grin formed. "I've got Maxwell, Nadia, and Olivia coming. Liam is trying to finish a meeting so he shouldn't be too far behind. Tell me how we get rid of the problem."
Once the Cordonians and Hollywood group were assembled, Holly shared the situation they were currently in and the need to somehow get rid of Lauren.
Nadia spoke her confusion. "I understand why we want her gone, but I thought we needed her to stay because of the rumors. If she leaves, won't this reflect badly on Thomas and Amanda?"
"Not if she leaves for something she is excited and happy about." Holly explained. "She will then talk about it nonstop to the press. Once she does that and Thomas and Amanda continue to act happy and give statements how ridiculous the rumors are, everything will be solved."
Drake folded his arms and frowned. "What would make her happy? Other than offering her a box of kittens to torture, what would she want?"
The Hollywood group thought in silence for a few moments.
"She loves attention." Chris offered. "Is there something we could find that would give her more of it?"
Addison sat up, blue eyes sparkling with excitment. "She has been saying how much she wants to meet a noble who is proper and a good example to emulate. She also eyes Amanda's estate with envy. The last couple of fittings she has said that she was meant for the noble lifestyle. Is there a nobleman that could possibly not only meet her requirements but also sweep her off her feet? Someone who would demand she give all her time and attention to him."
Olivia snorted. "We know the perfect guy."
Drake looked up and an evil look came into his eyes. "If ever there were two people more perfect to torture each other..."
Maxwell's eyebrows lifted. "Do you think he would be willing to do it? He isn't exactly a fan of Amanda's and he had a tense moment before the Derby with Thomas."
Olivia smiled. "Leave it to me. I will have Lord Neville here tomorrow."
Drake chuckled. "I would give anything to see that pompous ass get what's coming to him."
Ryan leaned back in his chair. "Alright. That will hopefully turn out how you want. How are you going to postpone filming?"
The Cordonian group began to brainstorm together. Liam smiled, causing Addison to softly sigh and stare at him dreamily.
"The cabin." Liam suggested.
Drake nodded. "No WiFi."
"No cell service." Olivia muttered.
"No neighbors." Maxwell said with a grin.
"Blizzard like weather." Drake added. "I think that will do it. Ton of supplies in the basement so they will be fine for at least a month."
"What is the cabin?" Addison asked, still gazing at Liam.
"It is a place up in the mountians of Lythikos. Couples in the past would use it as a place to test their love for one another. I've kept it set up more as a place to escape from people when they annoy me."Olivia explained.
"How are you going to get Thomas and Amanda there?" Chris asked.
The duchess thought for a few seconds. "I never gave them a wedding gift. This will be a surprise for them. They are visiting Lythikos in a couple of days before the rest of the court arrives. I will get them there."
Maxwell shuddered at the cold, calculated expression on her face. "For the record, I am glad you are on our side and have this brilliant plan. But please, never prepare a surprise for me and Nadia."
Liam's brow furrowed with concern. "Wait a moment. If we are successful, we are then causing trouble for the movie. How do we keep production from coming to a complete halt?"
Addison grinned with her sudden idea. "I'll call Matt and have him come!"
Everyone looked at her in confusion. "Don't we need an actress to replace the role instead of an actor?" Maxwell asked.
"Yes we do. That is why I will have him bring his Tender Nothings costar. Holly thought she might be good for Elizabeth. Oh! And her coloring is very similar to Elizabeth's portrait." Addison pulled her phone out. "And sent." She grinned when her phone vibrated. "He's calling Jessica right now." Everyone watched her in fascination. "And they will be here by the end of the week."
Liam's smile of approval made her blush. "Brilliant work, Lady Addison. I feel better knowing we will not be adding additional work on Thomas."
The group broke apart with promises to meet the next day after Neville and Lauren's meeting. Ryan paused when he saw Drake pull Holly away to talk. He watched as she laughed and gently pushed him. After another nod, Drake left her smiling.
Ryan waited until she walked past. "Would you like to go grab some dinner with your favorite actor?"
Holly looked back with a smile. "Maybe another time, Ryan. I've got plans tonight."
"Oh." He followed her out and frowned when she yelled out goodbye and hurried off.
____________________
"This is incredible." Thomas turned around in the ruins of an ancient monastery. He took Amanda's hand and helped her over some rubble.
"This is where Elizabeth met with Arthur to tell him she was marrying Reginald." She reached out and gently touched one of the engravings on a half standing wall.
They walked through the parts of the stone building still intact. Amanda gave him a brief history of its construction in the 1600's. Thomas listened quietly, enjoying how expressive her face was and how she threw in interesting facts with the dry historical parts.
"Isn't this where Reginald and Arthur met to duel over her?" He asked.
"Yes. She was visiting her friend and confidant, the youngest daughter of the Duke of Castelsarreillan, when she learned of the duel. Lady Marija helped her sneak out and break up the fight." Amanda explained. She led him outside to an empty field that was framed by hills dotted with apple trees. "Here is where the duel was held. Elizabeth went into great detail in her journal about this. It was here she realized she was truly in love with Reginald. The love she had for Arthur had not lasted nor sustained her growing affection for Reginald. She also suspected that Marija might have feelings for Arthur."
"Was she the lady Arthur ended up marrying? The lady you said had the big dowry?"
"She was. Once they married, Marija and Elizabeth did not see each other as often as they used to. They would encounter each other at some of the court events and try to catch up. But from what Elizabeth hinted in her journals, it was hard on Marija having Arthur around the woman he had so passionately loved to the point of risking death and the Queen's anger again to be with her." Amanda sat down on one of rocks and tugged Thomas beside her.
His sharp, dark eyes took in the visual beauty that would come across perfectly on film and thought how amazing it was to stand in a spot where a piece of this story took place. His mind began to picture the duel with those from the portraits. What if Elizabeth had not stopped them in time? What if Reginald had been killed? What if Arthur had not relented in his pursuit? Or what if Elizabeth had not realized how much she loved Reginald? Fate seemed to make them meant for one another. He wrapped his arms around Amanda.
She rested her head on his shoulder while looking out at the rolling countryside. After a long silence only broken by the occasional chirping of birds, she tilted her face up toward his. "Well, what do you think?"
He looked down at her and softly smiled. "Beautiful."
"It really is. Do you think it’ll be good for filming?" She smiled when he kissed her. “Mr. Hunt! Are you taking advantage of having me alone?"
"I believe I am, Mrs. Hunt." His hands moved down her back while pulling her closer. "We've spent a couple of weeks surrounded by the upper echelons." His lips caressed hers as he spoke. "I think I will take advantage of every opportunity I find alone with you."
Her smile grew. "I could be very amenable to that." She surrenedered to the passionate kiss he started. A soft moan from her encourgaed him. His phone started vibrating with a call and he ignored it.
"Shouldn't you get that?" Amanda let out a surprised gasp when he lifted her on his lap.
He flashed a smile before kissing her neck. "I'm with the only one who's call I would stop anything over."
"Thomas." She kissed him for a long moment before getting up. "Come on. We still have another hour of driving before we get to the next spot."
He took her hand as they walked back to the car. Thomas leaned against her door and pulled her close. "What about tonight? How long until we will be at the hotel?"
Her cheeks turned pink at his heated stare and wandering hands. "We’re actually staying near the next scene location."
His lips curved before kissing her again. "Good." He pushed away from her door and opened it for her. As he walked to his side, he checked his phone and cleared it when he saw the missed call from Lauren. He wasn't going to give her the opportunity of ruining his trip through Cordonia with Amanda.

That’s not why I’m going (4)
Knight in shining denim
Book: The Royal Romance
Pairings: Drake Walker x Amara Suarez
Rating: some foul language, some suggestive, otherwise pretty PG
Word count: 2,985
Notes: This piece is set the morning after the previous chapter, and recounts events around the day of the Derby. Thanks everyone for reading and encouraging me.
*****
‘Rise and shine, little blossom!’
Amara winces as Maxwell enters the room. Could it already be dawn? Did she really drink whiskey sours with Olivia last night?
‘Come on Amara, you have to get ready for the Derby!’
Maxwell cheerfully paces across the room and opens the curtains, letting the light in. Amara finally emerges. She was usually a very early riser, but the jet lag was still bothering her.
‘Thanks, Maxwell. I don’t think I would have heard my alarm, so I appreciate this. Do you want to wait until I’m showered and we’ll get some coffee?’
‘Sounds good, hun. I’ll go get some coffee and breakfast and we can have it on the balcony.’
Amara waves goodbye and lets herself in the bathroom. In the mirror, she notices that she looks tired. Oh well, she thinks. Nothing a little makeup can’t fix. Before hopping in the shower, she glances at her phone. More missed calls from Michael. A couple of texts from Mia. She’d need to give news soon, but not yet. She feels herself getting slowly mended over here, away from it all. Maybe she shouldn’t reopen the wounds so soon? Her shrink constantly said that she shouldn’t aim to forget, but rather, learn to deal with it. What was so bad about forgetting, for a hot second? Maybe that’s why she came, after all. To put some distance between herself and NYC, between herself and everyone she knew, everyone who knew. Here in Cordonia, she could have a clean slate, even if it wasn’t a permanent fix. She could be her new self, well, her old self, the person she was 2 years ago, before she was turned into this gloomy mess. She had remained stuck in a rut for so long, had let herself stay that way, so wasn’t she allowed to do something for herself? The competition part was a little overkill, especially when she had no intention of winning it, but the rest of it strangely felt like she was treating herself to something decadent, something she could savor. New friendships, new surroundings, and most importantly, no one here knew anything about her old life.
Alright, she thinks, enough mirror pep talk. Let’s get showered.
*****
Maxwell told her to spot the pink tents, but where the hell were they? Her feet were starting to hurt, and she was beginning to rethink her choice of a hat. Now was not the time to question her fashion decisions, especially when she was visibly headed towards the stables instead of her destination.
‘Lost, Suarez?’
Her heart skipped a beat. Of course, she thought. Her knight in shining….denim shirt. How many of these shirts did he own?
‘Hey Walker! Yeah, I can’t seem to find the pink tents…’
‘Pink? No, you’re supposed to be in the white tents. That’s where the other ladies are.’
‘Oh! Maxwell told me pink. Or maybe I misunderstood, I—‘
She interrupts herself, and studies Drake’s movements. He’s gently petting a horse, calming it down. She finds herself moved by the sight, then shakes it off. ‘This horse is beautiful,’ she says.
‘Oh, Marabelle’s Dream? She’s awesome. Stupid name though, if you ask me. She’s having a little freakout. She always gets nervous whenever she’s alone, so I thought I’d come and keep her company for a while.’ He smiles sweetly, catches himself, and immediately course corrects back to his usual smirk. ‘Want me to show you the way?’
‘You’re not coming?’
‘Nah. I’m meeting Liam in his tent, Derby tradition. We usually have a few drinks while watching the horses.’
‘Oh, that’s sweet! How long has this tradition been alive?’
‘Forever. I mean, not the drinking, because believe it or not, I didn’t drink when I was a kid. But the derby-watching, forever.’
‘So you and Liam have been friends all your life?’
‘Mhmm. As long as we both can remember. My dad was part of the Royal Guard.’ He stops talking abruptly, eyes on the horse.
Amara gets the hint. No more questions.
‘I better get going…can you point me to the right direction?’
‘Sure. That way, and then make a right after this post. You gonna be alright?’
‘Yeah.’ She smiles at him, staring intently. ‘Will I see you later?’
‘Maybe. Later, Suarez.’
She walked away, a sour taste in her mind. Was he blowing her off? It upset her more than it should have, but she could have sworn that he was trying to get rid of her.
She found her way easily, and spotted the ladies right away.
‘Amara! You made it! Wow, look at your hat, you look stunning!’
The sight of Hana made her smile, and she stopped regretting her hat decision. After all, when at court, you gotta pull a Princess Beatrice at weddings and break out your best hats. Plus, Maxwell had insisted. The man had crazy taste, and had been buying her outfit after outfit. Another reason to feel bad about not giving a shit about the competition.
‘What took you so long, Suarez?’ Olivia asked, without taking her eyes off of the horses. ‘Did you get lost?’
‘Um yeah, I did, actually.’
‘Ohlala,’ Kiara whispers, ‘très embarrassant!’
‘Il y a pire comme situation embarrassante, non ?’ replied Amara, her voice as sharp as a knife.
Kiara’s jaw drops and it takes her a couple of seconds to ask ‘Tu…parles français?’
‘Oui. Tu vois, le système éducatif américain n’est pas si terrible.’
Olivia lets out a loud snort, while Kiara’s jaw is still hitting the floor. She just couldn’t believe that this American waitress could speak more than one language. Joke was on her, because Amara spoke three.
Amara smirked, happy with herself for shutting Kiara up. Olivia finally moved from her original position to turn around and help herself to some more champagne. On her way to the bottle, she grabs Amara’s shoulder and whispers: ‘Good for you, Suarez. I’ve been wanting to help her shut it, but I would have used a more drastic method. But y’know, this ain’t bad either.’
She pours two champagne flutes, one for her, one for Amara. ‘Now let’s get you drunk. At least, drunk enough to forget about the horror you’re wearing on your head.’
*****
‘I swear she’s been elusive, Drake. I’m not being paranoid.’
Liam had been talking his ears off for the past half hour, and Drake didn’t know how much more patience he had in store. He had always listened to him, he was his best friend after all, but this time he had a slight conflict of interest.
‘I’m sure she’s just adjusting, Liam. She’s new here, she just got lost on the way to the tent, she’s obviously out of her element.’
He felt bad about badmouthing her like that, but that’s the first excuse he thought about. Truth was, she was adapting well, and she even seemed to be doing great with the other ladies. She and Hana were inseparable and Drake could swear he had just seen Olivia pour her champagne. Not that he was staring.
‘Drake, if I asked you a question, would you answer me honestly?’
‘Course. What is it?’
‘Do you think Amara would be ok with me choosing her? You know, would she be ok with the responsibility it would entail?’
‘Um, you just met her. You’re already thinking of choosing her?’
‘We’re talking hypothetically. But yes. Yes, I am. I swear, meeting her has made me exponentially happier, and every time I see her, even from afar, my heart skips a beat. I wish I could spend some more time with her, quality time, just to be sure, you know…’
‘I’m sure you could arrange that,’ Drake replies reluctantly. It hurt just saying this, but he knew where Liam was going with this, unfortunately.
‘Yes. But the other ladies can’t know about it just yet, so I’d have to be discreet. That’s where you come in.’
‘Me? What do you need me to do?’ Drake dreads what’s coming.
‘Will you drop a note for her in her bedroom? I would like for her to meet me in the gardens tonight. You know, just to talk.’
Before Drake can answer, Liam slips a handwritten note in his hand. Drake looks at it, hesitates one second, and puts it in his pocket. Something in him tears. ‘You got it, bud.’
‘Oh, thank you!’ Liam’s face lights up. ‘I owe you big time. I honestly think she can be it for me, Drake. I know it’s crazy, I met her a week ago, but that night in New York changed my life. I just know it’s never going to be the same.’
Drake offers a fake smile and says ‘That’s great. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m gonna get another drink.’
He passes the bar but keeps walking. No more decades-old tradition for today. He needs a walk, away from all of this. Away from the painful reality of his best friend falling for the same woman he is falling for.
But first, he has to drop off the note.
*****
Drake slowly lets himself in Amara’s room, his heart heavy with guilt and hurt, and something resembling humiliation. Why did Liam ask him to do this? Maybe just because he couldn’t ask a staff member who would potentially gossip about this, but still, this seemed overkill. He knew that it wasn’t malicious on Liam’s part, of course not, how could he have known that Drake was beginning to feel something for Amara? But it still had the aspect of a power play.
Drake debated where to put the note. The bed was too intimate. He didn’t want to do what would, symbolically, put Liam in her bed already. The desk seemed more appropriate. He took a look inside the note before putting it down. Fuck it, he thought. That’s what Liam gets for hiring me as his personal butler. The note was short, to the point, and, most importantly, was not signed. How cocky.
The note was in place. Drake looks around a bit. The room is a little messy, but not too much. He notices that Amara has brought several books with her. He smiles at the thought. Who travels with books? What about Kindles? He surprises himself by finding it endearing. Suddenly, he gasps. She had been reading Annie Proulx’s Accordion Crimes. That was uncanny. Proulx was his favorite author. He shakes his head, remembering that Liam only reads classic British literature, and refuses to step out of his comfort zone. Stop it, he thought to himself. This isn’t a scoreboard, and you’re not trying to score against Liam; he already won.
He looks around some more, feeling shitty about it, almost as much as when he turned her cell phone around on the plane. All he sees are clothes, a LOT of nail polishes—jeez, how much nail polish does a person need?--, some makeup…
Enough. He has got to get out of here, who knows when she would be back.
Walking out, he suddenly feels nauseous. Sure, he did right by his best friend, but it feels terrible. He wonders whether he had done right by Amara, too.
*****
After a tiring day at the Derby, Amara finally walks into her room, bidding goodbye to Maxwell, until dinner time. She kicks off her shoes, relieved to get out of these high heels. She picks up her Annie Proulx. Maybe she’ll read one more section before dinner. She notices a note right next to it, with her name on it. Her heart jumps in her chest. She grabs it with a trembling hand, and opens it.
‘Meet me at the gardens tonight, after dinner, between the two statues. I can’t wait to see you.’
She smiles wholeheartedly. So, he wasn’t being standoffish. Maybe he had already put the note here, and he thought she was the one blowing him off, even! She felt like a stupid teenager, smiling from ear to ear because the cute boy had asked her to the dance. Boy, it felt good to be an idiot.
*****
She had spent a long time –too long a time—picking an outfit. She had opted for something simple, because all her new outfits didn’t feel right for a sneaky rendezvous with Drake. So, jeans and a green blouse it is. No heels, because she didn’t want to leave tracks in the beautiful gardens. Or get Drake in trouble.
She was giddy as fuck, and laughed at herself for it, but damn it felt good to be excited.
‘You came!’
She turns around, and her smile falls off her face. ‘Liam?’
‘Were you expecting someone else?’ he asks, jokingly.
Shit, she thinks. She’s gonna have to regain her composure FAST. This could get Drake in trouble even more than stilettos in the pristine grass.
‘Of course not!’ she says with a fake smile plastered on her face.
‘I’m so glad you came.’
He approaches her, and wraps her in a tight hug. Too tight. Entitled. Like no-one-has-ever-said-no-to-him tight.
She pushes him away gently enough for him not to notice. ‘So, you summoned me?’
‘Oh please, I didn’t mean to make it sound official. I just wanted a chance to see you alone and get to know you. These occasions are so rare during the social season…You see, I have to give the same courtesy to everyone if I decide to see one person alone.’
‘Wow, so this is like the Bachelor, huh? Where’s my rose?’
Liam laughs heartily. ‘Ha! Where are my manners, I should have brought some flowers. That being said, we’re in the gardens, so you can just…help yourself.’
She smiles faintly. He’s a nice guy and she had enjoyed his company in New York. Being among these guys who didn’t know anything about her had made her feel alive again. She couldn’t deny the impact that Liam had had on her, of course, even if he hadn’t been the one with the most impact.
‘Amara, I want you to know that I’m very happy that you’re here.’ He takes her hand; she doesn’t have the heart to take it away, but it feels like a heavy weight on her own. ‘I hope you’re not having too tough a time to adapt.’
‘I’m fine, Liam. Thank you so much for having me. Everyone is really nice, and I’ve made some great friends.’
‘I’m glad! Maxwell is the best possible sponsor. He’s one of my dearest friends, and I trust him to take care of you. Bertrand too, of course. And, you may be aware that I asked Drake to keep an eye on you, you know, make sure you’re ok.’
She silently nods. Drake. How could she have thought he was the one to ask her to meet him? Of course he wasn’t interested. And he WAS blowing her off. But what about Olivia telling her that he obviously liked her?
Liam politely cleared his throat. She had zoned out for a little too long. ‘Is everything ok?’
‘Oh sure, I’m just a little tired.’
‘Oh,’ he said, visibly disappointed. ‘I don’t mean to keep you out too late. I just thought…’
Had he thought she would fuck him, right there, outside? Not that she was opposed to outdoors sex in general, but come on. She’d had two conversations with the guy and there was security everywhere.
Plus, if she was gonna have sex anywhere, it certainly wouldn’t be with him.
She felt terrible for thinking this, for several different reasons.
‘No, it’s ok, you’re not keeping me from anything. I’m happy to chat.’
Liam smiles weakly. So he HAD thought there would be more action. ‘So…tell me about your life in New York!’
Oh. That. She would have to find something basic to say, stat.
‘You know most of it already…I’m a bartender-slash-waitress, and I live in Brooklyn with my best friend, Mia.’ She looks at her watch. ‘Whom I’m supposed to FaceTime soon, actually. She’s starting to worry about me.’
Boom. She found an out.
‘Oh my God, of course! Your friends and family must be eager to hear from you! Do you have everything you need, a tablet, the wifi code?’
‘Oh yeah, I brought my iPad, and Maxwell hooked me up with the wifi code right away.’
‘Good, good… well I won’t keep you. Go reassure Mia. It’s important to have a best friend and to cultivate those friendships.’
He had no idea how much these words stung right now. She almost wanted to reply oh yeah, I’d really like to cultivate my bond with YOUR best friend right now. But instead she said: ‘You’re right. Thank you, Liam. You truly made me feel welcome here, and I can’t thank you enough. Maybe next time we’ll have more time to chat!’
He smiles politely. ‘I do hope so. Goodnight, Amara.’
He kisses her hand before turning around and leaving. Amara sighs with relief. Why did she feel such aversion, all of a sudden? Liam was a nice man, but the thought of his hand on hers… it just didn’t feel right. And he seemed so eager to get her alone, it made her uncomfortable.
This didn’t bode well.
*****
Back in her room, she took off her makeup and got in her pyjamas. She sat on her bad, Annie Proulx in one hand and her phone in the other. She weighed her options carefully. Although she would have preferred to read another chapter, she put it down to look at her phone and the permanent missed calls. She looked at the time. 9:55pm. So, just before 4 in New York. She took a deep breath and clicked. Her heart almost stopped when she heard his voice pick up.
It took her a few seconds to gather the courage to speak, and then finally she said: ‘Hi Michael.’

How to Install Baseboard Molding Baseboard molding provides a visual and physical connection between walls and adjacent flooring, door and window casings, and a home's architectural style. Handyman Services Of Wichita experts share everything you need to know when choosing and installing baseboard trim at Wichita KS. Woodworking, Molding and Baseboards Types of molding Many finish Handyman Services Of Wichita carpenters can complete trimming jobs around the house in Wichita KS. They can often measure, cut and install trimming and molding into the interior and exterior of your home, add door and window casing and fix rough corners. There are several types of molding from which to choose, including: Crown molding: A decorative capping that defines the space between ceiling and wall. It is installed at an angle so that it attaches to both surfaces. Cornices: The very top portion of the crown molding. Cornice and crown molding work together to create the trim's profile. Cove molding: Similar to crown molding, but where the profile of crown molding bends outward, cove molding shows a concave profile. Chair rail molding: Created to protect walls from damage from chair backs. this molding dissects the wall about 3 feet above the floor. Panel molding: Resembles a series of large empty frames placed above chair height or stretching from floor to ceiling. Baseboard: Serves to protect the bottoms of walls from damage and acts as a connector for the wall and flooring. Shoe molding is sometimes installed at the bottom of the baseboard to hide any irregularities in the line of the floor. Molding and baseboard maintenance Dust and cobwebs quickly dull the appearance of molding and baseboards. White molding, in particular, must be dusted frequently to prevent a dingy look. Crown molding should be dusted with a long-handled duster every two weeks to one month. Since molding on lower areas of the wall is more likely to get dirty and stained, this molding should be vacuumed or dusted weekly. Wood trim that requires more attention can be cleaned with polish or wood cleaner. Water-based cleaners should not be used on wood. Handyman Services Of Wichita Baseboards require frequent cleaning because of their proximity to the floor, where more dirt collects. Frequent dusting will help homeowners avoid a big job later on. Baseboards should be vacuumed with a brush attachment. Wiping with a damp cloth will remove more serious grime at Wichita KS. Care should be taken not to saturate the baseboard or wall. As with any type of dusting, start from the highest surface and work your way downward. For example, start by dusting your crown molding, then move to the chair rail and finish with your baseboards. This method helps you eliminate dust altogether, rather than creating it after cleaning one particular surface. Don’t forget to vacuum, sweep or mop dust from the floors after you’re finished. Baseboard moldings one of the room's last finishing trims to be applied are meant to fill gaps between wallboard and floors, protect walls against vacuum dings and furniture scrapes, and form a pleasingly cohesive perimeter. Baseboards meet up with door casings and anchor architectural wall treatments such as paneled wainscoting. Added after the walls are painted, the floors are laid, and the cabinets are installed, baseboard moldings play an important role in how a room looks and feels. Thoughtfully chosen baseboard moldings whether selected as part of a remodeling project or a newly constructed home go a long way toward establishing and underscoring design styles that range from streamlined modern and ornately old-world to substantially traditional. Happily, installing baseboard molding is a job that can be easily tackled by anyone who is comfortable wielding power tools, is able to make a few specialized saw cuts, and has a knack for accurate measurements. If you think you're not up to the task, ask your friends or local building associations to recommend a reliable contractor who can be trusted to install the baseboards in a timely and professional manner. Refinish or replace baseboards? Due to their position on the floor, baseboards are subject to cracking and chipping by feet and furniture. Slightly scratched and chipped baseboards can be revived with some putty and paint for little cost. Irreplaceable antique or solid wood baseboards justify the effort of refinishing, while the lower cost of other materials makes replacement a better choice. Contractors can often help you get better deals on materials, so it might be beneficial to let them purchase the materials for you. Homeowners with damaged MDF and less expensive wood baseboards will find replacing the baseboards time-consuming but not difficult. In these cases, it often makes sense for the homeowner to tackle the job. Handyman Services Of Wichita Since it can be difficult to remove baseboards without breaking them, homeowners with more expensive baseboards should consider hiring a professional to perform the work. For many homeowners, the value of the baseboards justifies the cost of removal, repair and replacement at Wichita KS. Need an estimate? Want to offer feedback? Have a question? A Gentleman and A Scholar
@holdinghandsinsnow
Fitz looked at himself with a critical eye in the mirror of his dressing room, before straightening his jacket across his shoulders and then fiddling with a curl across his forehead to make it sit just so.
He didn’t know why he was attempting to look so proper, the woman he was going to meet was hired to see that he became so, not to see him already at the goal.
He was far from it, he knew. Which was his motivation—well, his mum’s motivation—for hiring someone to see that he acted the part of his new position.
He’d been raised in Glasgow, his father a sailor with the Royal Navy. He’d had no siblings and so the little money his dad had sent home had been spent on his education but not on refining his manners. There seemed little point at the time. He’d run a bit wild, despite his mum’s attempts to keep him in check.
His mum had been from a wealthy family who’d disowned her for marrying his dad. He’d been a lowly seaman, not even an officer, and not considered a good choice for a husband.
His dad had been away much of the time Fitz was growing up—which, if he was honest with himself, he didn’t mind so much. When his dad had been around, he’d been often drunk and disappointed by his son who chose to learn to build the ships rather than sail them.
His dad however, had come into a large fortune when his ship had taken a French vessel full of silver and other valuables. He’d bought them an estate in Derby that effectively set him and his son up as gentlemen and his mum a lady—then he’d promptly been killed in another battle with the French.
They’d received a share of the prize from that captured vessel of £50,000 which his mum had quickly invested with the rest of their acquired fortune for the interest to keep them in this new life they’d somehow acquired.
And that was how Leopold James Fitz, son of a disgraced gentlewoman and a Sailing Master of the Royal Navy, was suddenly an eligible bachelor with an income of £5000 a year.
However, his manners and speech did not fit well with the social circle they were now a part of, much to his chagrin and his mum’s irritation. She seemed determined to marry him off.
So a teacher had been hired to make sure he learnt which fork to use and what the proper words were to say in a given situation. He was awful at that.
Now he was off to meet her—Miss Jemma Simmons. The carriage had been sent to meet her at the coach and Fitz was already certain he was going to be a horrible student.
Good lord, he was already beginning to sweat.
He buttoned his coat and headed out of the room, down the stairs and met his mother in the foyer.
She tugged on his coat and smiled. “The carriage has just arrived.”
Fitz heard the crush of the gravel outside the door and so he went to throw open the doors and was met with his first image of Miss Jemma Simmons—small, freckled and quite prettier than he’d imagined she would be—as she stepped from the carriage on his steward’s hand.
He stood there, rather paralyzed, as his mum went to greet her. He bolstered his courage and stepped forward to offer his hand and said, “Hoo da’ye dae, Miss Simmons?”
