the fact that Stede just completely as himself no pretensions changed so many lives - Jim talking about him to Archie, Fang giggling to storytime, Izzy getting taken in by the crew and being made to feel wanted - and Ed apologising for the things he did, feeling warmth and love, and yet Stede doesn't know about any of it, about the fact that he doesn't need to become a CJ to be taken seriously 🫠 doesn't even see Ed shaking his head when Ned is goading him, doesn't hear about how Jim made Fang feel better. The one thing he did hear was Archie mentioning she imagined him bigger and badder and I'm just so heartbroken for him.

Anyway. Anime people now know what I mean when I say that Kabru is clearly re-traumatising himself at every turn. It's because he thinks he has to in order to Win at Dungeon, but its also in my opinion without a doubt a form of self-harm. He suffers from a lot of survivor's guilt. He feels like he has to justify his survival of Utaya by stopping the catastrophe from happening again, or die trying, and it doesn't matter how much he further damages himself in the attempt. He's been revived several times, and we see how his clothes look big on him. His flashbacks to Utaya are vivid and frequent. He's lying and being manipulative to Laios, but in a way that costs him a lot as well.
