Valjean/Fantine, Valjean/Javert, Marius/Cosette, Marius/Eponine, Enjolras/Eponine, Enjolras/Grantaire for the ship asks

I read the brick ages ago, so this is mostly their musical versions, tbh

my thoughts under the cut, because I suspect this will get long

Valjean/Fantine - used to ship them back when I first saw Les Mis, which was the 2012 movie with Jackman and Hathaway who, even when portraying miserable French people, were still hot. however, now I look at it as just a sad but beautiful partnership? like, there's obviously no real romantic content for them (unless you count the epilogue, I guess...), and I feel like Valjean taking Cosette in was, at first, a moral obligation for him, rather than because he genuinely liked Fantine. but I suppose it'd be a nice ship if explored in some sort of AU - the down-on-her-luck mother, and the dude who steps up to help her with her child? that's cute. overall, though, not a romantic one for me, unless we're talking alternate universe.

Valejan/Javert - depends on the actors, but this is a yes for me. there's just something so unhinged and alluring about their undying obsession with each other and the shit they do to one another. it's obviously not the kind of relationship that sustains any sort of longevity, but I love them, your honour. favourite dynamic in the show, hands down.

Marius/Cosette - they have so little time in the musical, yet, because I'm a Cosette stan through and through, I love the small crumbs we're given. I feel like they both really do need the gentleness they're able to give one another, and that their love can blossom into something beautiful. there's just something so tender about them, and I love love love "A Heart Full of Love".

Marius/Eponine - this used to be my #1 ship when I first got into Les Mis, but now I just...don't care? Ponine's fate is clearly tragic, but I don't really like her and Marius that much as a dynamic, maybe because, again, there's very little of them actually interacting, and most of it is built upon Eponine's angst. usually I'm a big sucker for the "You Belong With Me" dynamic in ships, but here it just doesn't hit as hard? "A Little Fall of Rain", depending on the actors, is devastating, though.

Enjolras/Eponine - I suppose I like them as an opposite ship to Marius/Cosette? the only time I saw any potential for them was in the 2012 movie, but that's just because Aaron and Samantha are hot

Enjolras/Grantaire - lowkey the only 'built on crumbs and fanon' ship I can truly get behind in Les Mis, and I partially blame Ramin and Hadley for this? given the actors, the unspoken angst of these two can hit more than the entire E/C/M love triangle

still, out of these, Valvert is the only pairing I actively ship in Les Mis, which I guess says a lot about me and my attachment towards unhinged older men

Guys, I've made it. I know it's not perfect but it was the second time in my life when I was using Audacity (I did my best 🙃)

This post inspired me to make an animatic for On My Own as a duet of Grantaire and Eponine (it's WIP now, I hope I will make it till the Baricade Day) but, surprise surprise, there was no versions like this in the internet. I decided to make my own one. I used this, this and this and mixed it together.

But the point is, that I don't know if I will stay motivated enough to end my video, so I decided to share at least the audio.

PS If there's anyone who can do better all those Audacity (or other programs) stuff, feel free to fix my "perfect" work 😅 I plan to add it to my animated version, so I want it to be as good as possible (everything will be probably better than my version 😂)

for the ship ask game: megstine, christine/carlotta, meg/erik, meg/raoul, rerik

okay, so, thoughts under the cut!

Megstine - cute, cute, cute. have always really enjoyed this, be it romantically or platonically. might partially just be me wanting wlw in my favourite story ever, but I feel like the more active Meg is in any given interpretation of ALW's Phantom, the more I enjoy them, because then I feel it very much plays into the 'hot-headed dork who would do anything for her girlfriend' trope, and I can't help but wonder what'd happen had Meg intervened in the events of the Final Lair prior to the whole Eristine kiss fiasco. also very much enjoy them in a LND-verse, so much so that the only way I see that show working is by having Christine and Meg run off, away from the toxic men & parents.

Christine/Carlotta - I suppose it works in a crackship way? I know Carlotta isn't really supposed to be that much older than Christine, but most often she is cast that way, so I'm not fully on board with it. I feel like they'd have to really work some things (like the obvious jealousy and bitterness) out before any sort of romantic feelings. but I like the idea of the Il Muto kiss not being entirely work-only.

Meg/Erik - no. I just don't like it. much like Meponine, I used to ship this way back when I got into the musical, but it might be a post-Love Never Dies world that soured their potential for me, or it might just be the fact that there's not much to their potential dynamic I find interesting? I much prefer them as unlikely allies or Meg being fascinated with him a la the original musical, but with minimal or no romantic connotations.

Meg/Raoul - now this I, strangely, like. and, what's even weirder, I like it in LND-verse, particularly that one scene they share together. maybe it's just how Simon Gleeson and Sharon Millerchip play it - the scorned lover and best friend dynamic is alive and well - but it's by far the most intriguing what-if relationship of the whole show for me.

Rerik - I'm strangely intrigued by it? probably an even worse ship morally than Eristine (I actually like Eristine before anyone intervenes), but ??? enemies to lovers to the max, I suppose

So I feel like a lot of us know that “On My Own” was originally supposed to be a duet between Grantaire and Éponine, but here’s how I think it would’ve played out.

Éponine: And now I'm all alone again, nowhere to go, no one to turn to.

Grantaire: Without a home, without a friend, without a face to say hello to.

Both: And now the night is near, now I can make believe he's here. Éponine: Sometimes I walk alone at night when everybody else is sleeping.

Grantaire: I think of him and then I'm happy wiith the company I'm keeping.

Both: The city goes to bed, and I can live inside my head.

Grantaire: On my own, pretending he's beside me. All alone, I walk with him 'til morning.

Éponine: Without him, I feel his arms around me, and when I lose my way,

Both: (harmonising) I close my eyes, and he has found me

Éponine: In the rain, the pavement shines like silver. All the lights are misty in the river. In the darkness, the trees are full of starlight, and all I see is him and me forever and forever.

Grantaire: And I know it's only in my mind, that I'm talking to myself and not to him. And although I know that he is blind, still I say, there's a way for us.
