First Restauration newspaper gossip – the Marmont edition
Some more snippets from 1814 German newspapers:
Allgemeine Zeitung, 16 June 1814:
There is talk of the appointment of three new marshals, and M. Viomesnil, M. Coigny and M. Nansouty are believed to have been designated. On the other hand, it is said to be true that General Grouchy had asked for his dismissal. But after everything was settled, he showed himself at court, and is said to have taken the liberty of insulting Marshal Marmont in the presence of the Duke of Berry in a parlour adjoining the King's flats, whereupon he was ordered to leave Paris the next day.
Allgemeine Zeitung, 28 June 1814
General Grouchy, who was ordered to leave Paris following his quarrel with Marshal Marmont, has returned; the King has deigned to excuse what he considers to be the temperamental outbursts of an excellent warrior.
Bayreuther Zeitung, 8 July 1814
A private message from Mainz, that cannot be verified, says that there was a tumultuous event in Paris on 30 June and that Marshal Marmont was stabbed to death by Marshal Oudinot.
Bayreuther Zeitung, 9 July 1814
The rumour from Mainz of tumultuous events in Paris on 30 June and of the assassination of Marshal Marmont was not confirmed. Until 2 July, the Paris papers did not report any event that could have given rise to this rumour.
Berlinische Nachrichten von Staats- und gelehrten Sachen, 19 July 1814
Marmont is particularly the object of the censure of the discontented because, instead of putting Paris, which his defeated and shattered corps could not cover, at the mercy of extreme danger, he preferred to capitulate.
Baierische National-Zeitung, 30 July 1814
Marmont, who saved the ruins of his defeated army by a capitulation, the life of a punishable and still dangerous tyrant by a stroke of the pen, and Paris itself from destruction by ceasing to defend it when it could no longer be defended, without provoking and exposing the aggressors; this Marmont is at present universally hated by those citizens whose houses, wives and daughters owe their existence and honour to his prudence. The most daring of Bonaparte's followers accuse him of treachery, because he took the only means to save their idol. The armies, which he rescued with honour from a succession of unequal battles and unavoidable misfortunes, accuse him daily in the cafés of having disgraced the French arms.
And as a bonus: Louise Soult
Allgemeine Zeitung, 16 June 1814
It is said that the other day, when Mme la Maréchale Soult presented herself at court, she was allowed to enter before many of the ladies of old nobility, who were very offended by this.

Not Death will do us part!
Tumblr media
"You know you can't marry Eugène!" said Hortense, looking at me sternly with her big blue eyes. "Do you know, Adèle, what he once told me...that I should not hope to marry for love!" She straightened her back and looked down at me in a very grown-up way. "Eugène will one day marry a foreign princess. For political reasons. He's the son of the First Consul! Who knows, maybe Eugène will even marry an English princess...then there would finally be peace between England and France". She raised her finger in front of me. "So don't fall in love with Eugène, you little fool...it's absolutely pointless!" What Hortense said frightened me. And Moira had warned me: "Don't let them know that Eugène is courting you! The girls will make your life hell. They are jealous...oh lord!" I shook my head slightly as I said to Hortense: "I'm not in love with Eugène! But I like him very much. He's so charming, like my brother Dominique!" Hortense finally smiled. She turned to the other girls and said: "You see, there's no danger for you stupid geese. Our Adèle is not in love with him! You can continue to adore my brother..."
But I could tell that Églée wasn't happy with that. She stared at me as I sat down to continue with my embroidery. "Adéle," I looked at her. "...do you know that you're not allowed to kiss a man on the mouth if you can't have him? I mean...really kiss him!" She stuck her tongue out between her lips. The other girls giggled. I shrugged. Églée continued to tease. "...if a man puts his tongue in your mouth, you'll fall in love with him. But if he can't marry you, you'll be unhappy!" Aimée sighed. "God, leave her alone! The chick doesn't know anything about this! She'd better be careful that the guy doesn't put anything else in her, otherwise she'll be even more unhappy."
It was true! I was almost twenty years old and knew very little about married life with a man. That was about to change. But in a terrible way!
It was in November 1801, that one of our young ladies, Aimée Leclerc, was married. She married General Oudinot, whom she had never seen before and whom she had not chosen. Églée was luckier. She got General Ney, a tall young officer with fiery red hair! Hortense Beauharnais was forced to marry her step-uncle Louis Bonaparte, even though she was actually in love with General Duroc, her stepfather's adjutant. So she was not spared either!
Before I could even guess my fate, a message from my family reached me in the springtime of 1802. Madame Campan asked me to come into her study. "Sit down, child!" Madame Campan looked at me sadly, so I become afraid. "I received a letter from your mother. Your father is seriously ill. You must go home, Adèle." She gave me the letter, which was also addressed to me. I recognized my mother's handwriting, the words danced before my eyes. "Papa"..."stroke"..."immobilized"..."come home, Adèle!" I began to cry. What should I do? Madame Campan stood up and took me in her arms. "Miss O'Malley will accompany you on your journey south. Be strong, my child!"
Ten days later, Moira and I arrived in my hometown Aire-sur-l'Adour. Maman welcomed me in black. "Papa is upstairs. Go to him, he's waiting for you!" I was relieved - he was still alive! However, my poor Papa looked terrible, he could no longer speak or walk. I sat down by his bed and stroked his hand. A few moments later Maman entered the room with an older Monsieur who I didn't know. He was elegantly dressed, holding a tricorn hat and a walking stick. I saw lace cuffs and a signet ring. He wore a white powdered wig. "This is Monsieur Duchâtel," Maman introduced the older man to me. "...he's a friend of your father. Monsieur Duchâtel is supporting us in this terrible time, we owe him everything. You too, my daughter! Monsieur Duchâtel has asked for your hand in marriage, Adèle. I have agreed, ...in the name of your father!"
"What???"
"Yes. You'll marry Monsieur Duchâtel, Adèle!"
I don't know how much time passed before I awoke from my nervous breakdown. Moira was with me. I was lying on the couch in the drawing room. Maman and Dominique were standing next to the door. The Monsieur was not here. Dominique came to me, he had grown up, a handsome blonde man! My brother knelt down and took my hand. "Adèle,...I'm so glad you're here!" Maman still stood at the door, she didn't move, but said: "Adèle...you must marry Monsieur Duchâtel...otherwise we'll all end up in the poorhouse. It's that what you want? Will you ruin your family? Will you kill your Papa...?" I looked at Dominique. He was crying! I was so shocked that I couldn't speak. Moira approached my mother. "Madame Papin, it would be good if you spoke to me about this matter. Adèle is too exhausted. Please!" Maman nodded and they both left the room. I hugged my brother Dominique. We both cried.

OOC: The Napoleonic Askblog/Roleplay Scene Directory
Here's an Out Of Character post listing the blogs I'm aware of in the Napoleonic RPF Roleplay Scene! It's OOC because Lannes would want to make sarcastic remarks with typos.
If you want (or don't want) your blog on this list, message me and whether you want a main/other blog associated with your name or whether you want to be anonymised! Also happy to include non-Frenchmen and Frev folks.
Doubles or multiple versions of people are welcome, this is a varied afterlife. We all have our different ideas for what this afterlife is like as well.
Feel free to reblog or link to this!
And now we have a OOC discord server to chat about all of this! Feel free to join if you'd like!

I must explain here that I had as aide-de-camp a young officer in whom Marshal Oudinot was deeply interested. He had begged me to receive him, and do all I could for him. He came to me absolutely penniless, but with all the pretensions of a scion of a noble family. I welcomed him kindly, filled his purse, bought two good horses for him with saddles, harness, &c., and sent them to him as a gift.
I expected, of course, to get a little active help in return, and to find him zealous in my service. Not a bit of it. I suppose he found his sense of gratitude oppressed him, for he disappeared without taking leave of me. I heard afterwards that he was aide-de-camp to the Duke of Valmy.
There was no officer at hand to fill his place when we were thus surprised by the Austrians, so I went myself to reconnoitre the position the Austrians had just taken up round our bivouac.
Separated from my troops, I galloped about amongst the enemy's skirmishers, and soon saw that I ran great danger of being shot down or taken, so I hastened back to camp to order the brigade to take up arms and join the principal corps of our division.
What was my astonishment when I got to where we had bivouacked to find it wholly deserted, and to be compelled to ride a long way in the track of my own men before I came up with them!
It turned out that whilst I was amongst the skirmishers General Guilleminot had received orders to march towards Hanau, and had sent a message to my brigade instructing it to follow his movement. This order had not reached the battalion I had stationed in Saalmunster, which had for the moment been forgotten, and I had the greatest difficulty in saving it, for the village was already surrounded. I was intensely annoyed at this incident, and bitterly reproached General Guilleminot, who had been a great friend of mine for many years.

Gucci is making its presence inside of Roblox a little more permanent. The fashion brand previously collaborated with the virtual world for more short-lived experiences, like the surreal Gucci Garden from last year, and is now releasing a more persistent space called Gucci Town. The space features a central garden that links together various areas, including a space for mini-games, a cafe, and a virtual store where players can, of course, purchase virtual Gucci gear for their Roblox avatar. (The company says the virtual outfits make use of Roblox’s new “layered clothing” tech.)
Gucci says that more than 20 million players visited the garden last year, despite it only being available for two weeks, and it expects the new space to steadily evolve over time. “The starting point when designing the experience has always been the community,” Nicolas Oudinot, Gucci’s EVP of new businesses, told The Verge. “True to this, we envision the future developments as an open dialogue between Gucci and the recurring visitors. Emerging content creators and talents from the Roblox community will be on board, while we will infuse the ecosystem with new ideas and visual stimuli, as our creative messaging is forever in flux, evolving with the kaleidoscopic vision of creative director Alessandro Michele.”
Strange as the partnership may seem, it’s also something of a natural evolution for Gucci, which has done plenty of dabbling in the video game space of late. In addition to releasing Roblox experiences, the fashion company also teamed up with esports organization 100 Thieves for a backpack and Microsoft for a very expensive Xbox. In fact, many big names in fashion have entered into similar collaborations, including Balenciaga with Fortnite, Burberry with Honor of Kings, and Longchamp with Pokémon Go.

Serial Conman Will Jackson And How He Conned Women From 2008 All Through To 2019 Before Getting Captured
It started with a Facebook message: “What’s up beautiful?”
Acacia Oudinot wouldn’t usually respond to an unsolicited Facebook note—especially from a strange man complimenting her appearance. A striking, 37-year-old divorcee from Arizona, Oudinot is used to men hitting on her and adept at brushing them off. But something about Will Jackson intrigued her. Maybe it was his smile or his stylish…

The only insurance you’d get in that marriage would be me and my skills.
Because I have no health insurance. Is that even a thing here?
You should marry Larry
I definitely should, I need that health insurance thing
