If I had a nickel everytime david tennant made another version of himself by using revolutionary regeneration methods and then gave up his time travelling lifestyle to live with one of his companions and their family (most of which have been in the tadtsi before) while the other doctor carries on his journey alone and donna noble is there also

some people are arguing about rose being a genocider because of 'the parting of ways' and i was about to jump in to defend her because duh, we all want the daleks gone right? bad wolf sure isn't framed as genocide.

however.

in 'journey's end' when the meta crisis doctor does the exact same thing...the doctor is appalled and exiles him for it.

my friend jokingly said that the doctor didn't try hard to get rose back in 'doomsday' but now i'm thinking...maybe a part of him was kinda relieved.

i can accept the meta/rose arc if i look at it through this lense. of the doctor saving rose because at the end of the day, he still loves her but always having in the back of his mind this massive alarm bell ringing because this girl just did a genocide for him. he pushes it away and says eff it imma have fun and they run around but their actions catch up then we get doomsday and as devastated as the doctor was, a part of him was saying welp. this was going to happen. and it's probably best this way. doesn't mean he has to be happy about it though (see series 3).

because then we get to series 4 and we get the meta crisis doctor pulling another genocide and the doctor's forcibly reminded of what happened before. so when rose asks why can't she stay, the doctor is more than eager to kill two birds with one stone, and orders the two genociders far tf away.

i don't like the meta risis doctor storyline very much, but i do like the reveal when the tardis dematerialises in front of everyone and davros is visibly scared to see another doctor from inside, mainly because in that one moment you can understand that even davros knows the rules but that they've all somehow been broken right then.

'...Tenth Doctor: David Tennant (December 2005 – January 2010)

The Tenth version of The Doctor was played by David Tennant for three series between 2005 – 2010.

In sharp contrast to Nine, this Doctor appeared far less burdened by the events of the Time War and was a charming, friendly, and charismatic individual. Despite his easygoing attitude, however, he never shied away from expressing disapproval or anger and was furiously protective of his companions.

The Tenth Doctor did develop a darker nature, which was exasperated by the loss of his companions and a desperate desire to avoid his inevitable death. He reaches his lowest point during the 2009 episode ‘The Waters of Mars‘ where he declares himself ‘the Time Lord victorious’ after attempting to bend the strict rules of time to his will.

Rose Tyler, Martha Jones (Freema Agyeman), and Donna Noble (Catherine Tate) acted as the Tenth Doctor’s primary companions. The 2006 episode ‘School Reunion‘ also marked the return of Elisabeth Sladen as Sarah Jane Smith..

Meta-Crisis Doctor: David Tennant (July 2008)

During the events of ‘The Stolen Earth‘ and ‘Journey’s End‘ the Tenth Doctor enters a regenerative state after being shot by a Dalek – having just reunited with Rose and not wanting to change however, he diverted the regeneration energy into his severed hand (which was found and returned to him in a jar by Captain Jack).

When the Daleks later attempt to destroy the TARDIS, Donna, who is still inside the ship, touches the jar which causes a biological meta-crisis, creating another version of The Doctor.

Unlike his counterpart, the Meta-Crisis Doctor shares half of Donna’s DNA making him a human Time Lord hybrid with one heart and a human life span. He’s also shown to share some of Donna’s mannerisms.

When The Tenth Doctor eventually returns Rose and her family to their parallel world, he entrusts her to look after the Meta-Crisis Doctor – explaining that being born in battle makes him too dangerous to be left alone, representing who he was before he and Rose met.

Fourteenth Doctor: David Tennant (October 2022 – December 2023)

David Tennant returned to Doctor Who as the Fourteenth Doctor for the show’s 60th-anniversary specials, where he was joined by Catherine Tate who reprised her role as Donna Noble.

In the final moments of 2022’s ‘The Power of the Doctor,’ Jodie Whittaker regenerated into a familiar face and Russell T. Davies quickly confirmed that David Tennant would be playing the Fourteenth Doctor for the anniversary celebrations.

Aside from sharing a face with the Tenth Doctor, the Fourteenth incarnation of the Time Lord comes across as much more vulnerable than his predecessor and has clearly been heavily affected by the recent events of both The Flux and the Timeless Child revelations.

The Fourteenth Doctor was joined by Donna Noble during his on-screen adventures, and he was also reunited with Melanie Bush (Bonnie Langford) in the events of ‘The Giggle‘...'

I don’t care that the doctor has a wife and is literally married to River. I accept that it’s canon. I do “ship” it and I really like the whole storyline of River and the doctor. However I will defend the doctor and Rose’s relationship until I die. Even if it wasn’t canon that Rose told the doctor she loved him, anyone can very clearly see that she does. And I’m talking proper head over heels in love with him. Not many people argue with this because it is literally canon. It’s the people who deny the doctor’s love for Rose who I will argue with. You can see in everything he does in s1 and s2 (especially s2) that he is in love with her. Aside from doomsday the best example I have is the satan pit/impossible planet. And I also strongly disagree with people who only ship the tenth doctor and Rose. The ninth doctor grew to love Rose very quickly and died loving her. The tenth doctor was born loving rose and you can see throughout his whole run as the doctor that she was always his first thought and he loved her throughout his entire life as that doctor. (I also believe that future regenerations would still love Rose but so much time had passed they would’ve learned to get over it. Also having the meta crisis and knowing that doctor was with her would’ve helped.) The last person the tenth doctor visits before his regeneration is Rose which to me says that she wants to be the last face that face saw and he would be thinking of her as he went, which proves he loved her up to the point of “death” and died loving her. Also the mentions of Rose in future seasons just showed that she would never be forgotten.

In July 2008, millions of viewers tuned in to watch ‘Journey’s End’; where the Doctor and Rose were left hand-in-hand on Bad Wolf Bay.

While fandom has remained active, continuing to generate endless works inspired by this iconic pairing, there's sadly been little official content from the people who launched the ship!

Nonetheless, our devotion remains unwavering. We persist, loving the OTP; ceaselessly spreading love and fan-made content worldwide!

The purpose of this movement is to show there is still an audience that is very interested in revisiting these two. One that would love to see the Doctor and Rose together again, on-screen or off, living their best lives in Pete’s World. 

Regardless of whether it’s a spin-off, comics, audio adventures, or — and this, we believe, is crucial — anything at all, we would just love to have them back in some way. We’ve realized that perhaps there hasn’t been enough collective buzz to bring this into reality, which is why we’re looking to rally up as much support as we can.

Why now?

Because there’s never been a more perfect time for it. 

Already, Russell’s return has been bringing former fans back in droves. Everyone’s waiting with bated breath for RTD2 and the sixtieth anniversary; plus Ncuti, David, and Catherine. With so many fans dipping back into the Doctor Who world, why not strike while the iron’s hot? 

At the fifteen-year mark, it might never be this “hot” again!

Plus… nostalgia is a massive market.

A return of Tentoo and Rose after all of these years would be the perfect cherry on top of all of it: closure for so many fans, as well as validation for the only happy ending a Doctor-and-companion pairing ever got in Doctor Who.

And don’t forget — fan campaigns work, especially in the social media age!

A spin-off — too much? 

As much as we’d love to see David and Billie back on-screen together as the proper Meta-Crisis Doctor and Rose, we understand that we already have David coming back in a big way, as well as Ncuti Gatwa — our brand new Doctor. It’s a big, BIG ask, trying to get a spin-off out of this. We recognize that.

However, as famished fans who are living off of little more than canonical crumbs and dreams, we will greedily devour anything we can get.

More Big Finish audio adventures

Big Finish has done incredible work for Doctor Who, including one of the only official ‘glimpses’ we’ve gotten into Pete’s World: A couple of short audios featuring Tentoo and Jackie.

Big Finish understands and respects these characters, their relationships, and the overall source material. They’ve shown time and time again that they’re more than capable of doing justice to Doctor Who! 

Audio adventures with a focus on the Meta-Crisis Doctor and Rose Tyler would be fantastic. Anything from their adventures with Torchwood and/or UNIT, imaginings of their life with a TARDIS, etc — there are endless possibilities! 

Comic book adventures

In 2021, Titan Comics published ‘Empire of the Wolf’, a lovely comic book that gifted us with the best glimpse we’ve ever had into the lives of the Doctor and Rose in Pete’s World:

It was a beautiful, if brief imagining of these two (and includes their daughter), but even so, the vast majority of the story involves Rose being trapped with the Eighth and Eleventh Doctors. We only get a few pages of Tentoo. 

Comics would be an excellent way to dive into the parallel world again!

Novels

There are loads of Doctor Who novels with amazing stories about Rose and the Tenth Doctor (like 'The Stone Rose' by Jacqueline Rayner). But, here's the thing: there's just one official novel that dives into the whole Metacrisis and Rose relationship... And guess what? Fans are really craving content that stays true to RTD and Julie Gardner's original vision for this couple.

The good news is, there are tons of talented writers out there who would jump at the chance to create legit Meta-Crisis stories, and some would even do it for free!

An animated series

We recognize that this would be a tremendous undertaking, but imagine: You can do incredible things with animation that aren’t possible with film. It would appeal to fans of all ages, and Billie and David have more than proven themselves to be excellent voice actors. There are all sorts of stories that could be created in this medium.

But let’s say we went with the first choice…

A spin-off/miniseries

RTD has been very vocal about his plans for spin-offs. Billie and David are willing, and it hasn’t been so long that the pairing has lost relevance… Although, in Doctor Who, does anything ever really lose relevance? The show is known for bringing back old characters. Enemies, companions… Doctors:

It’s obvious that David seems to have no issue with playing the Doctor. Furthermore, even Billie Piper has recently expressed interest in a spin-off!

In 2019, she told Doctor Who magazine: 

“I would like to see a one-off dark comedy about Rose and the Doctor in the parallel universe”. 

Then, even more recently in December 2022, she told Buzzfeed [on returning to Doctor Who]:

“If it was like four episodes all shot in London, then yeah, I’d be like a rat-up-a-drainpipe for that.”

Four episodes of Tentoo and Rose in London? What could be more perfect than that?

Wouldn’t a spin-off overshadow Ncuti Gatwa?

It doesn’t have to! If a spin-off were to happen, it wouldn’t necessarily have to happen immediately — it can happen after Ncuti has been established as the Doctor, and after RTD has re-established himself as showrunner. We’d just like for it to be part of the conversation, and let those in charge know that people are interested.

So… What about the people who didn’t like the ending?

Yes, there are some naysayers out there. People who refuse to acknowledge Tentoo’s legitimacy as the Doctor; others who refuse to believe that Rose could ever be truly happy with him, and vice versa.

This, sadly, is willful ignorance. Not only has Russell T. Davies, the man who wrote Journey’s End — who created Tentoo and Rose — confirmed that they're happy; the Doctor himself, David Tennant, will be the first person to tell you that those two are blissfully shagging their lives away at all times. And god bless him for it.

We’ve come to find that a lot of people who aren’t on board with the ending just didn’t understand it, which is fine — what better way to understand this pairing than by seeing more of them?

new new who is fucking dead to me. actually. i am beyond fucked off with the sheer amount of favouritism tennant gets and tennants doctor gets. lets not forget: this is the second version of the tenth doctor to get a "happily ever after" with a family, or did we all just forget the meta crisis doctor? it takes away from the rawness and tragedy that is a regeneration by going "oh well he can actually BI generate soooo" and its all because tumblrs golden boy doctor david tennant cant *die* we cant not have a tennant doctor live!! it was so sad the first time they wouldnt cope!! so now theres a second ultra powerful guy running around, tennant never gets to make his graceful final exit from the show, and proves himself, as i expected, the one doctor who actor who cant ever say goodbye to the role with grace and dignity, he has to keep going and clinging, and. look, theres alot to love about these specials. the monsters. the grandure. the return of donna, the good valid incredible representation. but then you look at the ending of the star beast. the regeneration. all the cop outs and the handwaves because these stories are *just* about pleasing the 2000s tumblr doctor who fans. its just BAD writing, is what it is. donna "Letting go", the doctor "bigenerating", if none of the other doctors get these happy endings. if they all have to die and let go. what makes tennants any different? because he didnt want to? i dont know, maybe im stupid and bitter about it because its "Not My Who", but it really... isnt. david tennant was not my doctor and i cant have this rose (hah!) tinted blind love that "aww look at my mippy blorbo hes finally happy" because its ALREADY happened to metacrisis ten. and now its happened to regenerated ten. and none of the other doctors get this special, preferential treatment and it does piss me off! because in order to make this doctor happy, the writers bend over backwards and bend over backwards and tie themselves in loops to give a happy ending to a story where a happy ending is a rare treat, and one the doctor never truly gets. thats sort of the whole POINT. and if thirteen and yasmin cant get their happy ending. if eleven and the ponds cant get their happy endings. i just dont see what narratively makes this doctor any more important than the others. but the narrative treats him like such.

-Anyway, let's get on with the actual stuff

-The opening punched me in the face. Of course the fruity-ass villain, The Toymaker, would set up shop in SoHo. Aziraphale would be pissed. Only one Southern Pansy is allowed to have a physic defying shop and that's him.

-The chaos, so much chaos. But hey! We heard Wilf! We didn't really see him, but we got one last line in with him, thank goodness!

-UNIT is not subtle anymore, but at this point it would make sense that they're more well-known.

-I dunno who Mel is, but she seems like a fun person! :O Which era was she, Five's?

-The shit with the giggle and how it affected Kate... yikes. :|

-I do want to point out how awesome Donna is throughout this episode, from the music notes, to defending the Doctor, to standing by their side. She's the best, love her. <3

-The Toymaker is fuck, NPH was an excellent choice, honestly.

-His dimension is fuckin' bonkers. I already knew that his world was basically a game to begin with, so I feel really bad for Donna and the Doctor as they go through the halls. Also, fucking puppets! UHG!

-Best two outta three, who didn't see that one coming?

-THE REGENERATION!

-Let's talk about that!

-Let's fucking talk about the insanity that is the regeneration! (And fuck you Disney+ for using Tenth Doctor in the subtitles, that's still Fourteen to me).

-Fourteen's last words were interesting, including the allons-y, kinda had a feeling we'd get an old Ten quote in there, but the fact that they said they felt weird, it's like. Wait... WAIT! HOLD UP???

-THE SPLIT! Fourteen's shock, Fifteen's excitement! Fifteen! I love you! I love you!

-Two Doctors for the price of one, another weird regeneration! A bi-regeneration! A myth! So that means that there was talk about it before, a possibility, unlike the meta-crisis!

-Please take note that Fourteen lost their underpants and went commando through the last half of the special because... WOW. That's gotta be uncomfortable.

-Fifteen, Fifteen, I fucking love you~

-Fifteen is going to be a caring, emotional Doctor and I'm here for that. <3 And how he held Fourteen... hhhhhh.... my little heart <3

-I know, I know, cheesy to have two Doctors and now two TARDIS's, but I don't fucking care. I don't fucking care at all. I love it. I love that Fourteen can rest, Fifteen can still fly off and have adventures. Which means that there is a chance that they can meet again, and maybe we'll have another fun adventure with them.

-Donna working for UNIT sounds like a good idea. I wonder if Fourteen will as well, and probably cause so much trouble, just like Three and Four did. :D

-Fourteen and Tentoo, the Doctors who can rest and enjoy the little things. That's all I need in life.

-Also, the adorable line about Rose being their niece!

-I have so many more thoughts, but it's hard to put them all down. Over all, I fucking loved this, I get more Fourteen in my life, and now I also get to enjoy Fifteen at the same time! Two Doctors for the price of one!
