About the Fear of Creation

Sometimes I’m afraid to create.

Not because I doubt my skills. Not because I lack ideas. But because, more than once, my art has predicted something. It has warned me. Or rather—not me directly, but those around me. The people I care about. It’s as if once the image is put on paper or canvas, the event begins to unfold in real life.

And I still don’t understand how or why. Am I simply seeing something others can’t yet feel? Is it intuition, or something far deeper? Am I just a painter, or is there more to this?

This isn't something I talk about often, because I know how it sounds. To some, it could seem like fantasy, exaggeration, or even ego. But after many years and many works—too many coincidences—I've come to believe there's something very real happening.

Sometimes a single sketch is enough. Once it becomes material, it’s as if a door opens. The story I thought was "just a concept" turns into someone else’s reality. The painting becomes a warning. Or worse—an omen.

It’s terrifying.

There are ideas I hold back from painting. Not because I can’t make them beautiful, but because I fear what they might bring. And I don’t want to be the one who brings it.

There’s a strange kind of responsibility in that. A weight. It’s not that I think I’m cursed. It doesn’t feel like a curse. But it does feel like a power—one I didn’t ask for. And one I can’t fully understand.

That’s why sometimes I don’t show my work. Not because it’s not good enough, but because I’m afraid someone will see themselves in it— And then something in their life will echo what I created.

That fear shapes me. It makes me more careful, more conscious. It slows me down. It makes me question who I’m painting for.

Now I try to paint from a detached space—free of specific people or names. I want my creations to stand alone. Independent. Unattached. Unbound.

Still, the fear never fully leaves.

But maybe that’s the cost of creating something real. Maybe true art doesn’t just reflect reality—it bends it, pulls it, reshapes it. And maybe my role is simply to keep painting. Even if I don’t always know why.

Un grande dipinto a tempera su tavola nel quale assistiamo alla sublimazione del concetto di corpo pulsante e danzante in quello di forma. La stessa modella è ripetuta in diverse posture: non vi è alcuna narrazione ma un’apoteosi dell’idea di pittura nella rappresentazione delle figure femminili. I gesti eleganti sembrano orchestrati come passi di una coreografia. Quello del concerto è un tema pittorico che si sviluppa nel Rinascimento e di cui poi artisti di ogni tempo hanno dato una loro versione. Tra le più famose c’è sicuramente “Concerto Campestre” dipinto da Giorgione nel 1520. Il Concerto di Casorati fa parte della Collezione d’Arte della Rai, nata nei primi anni ‘50 per abbellire le sale dell’Auditorium di Torino, degli uffici direzionali e delle sedi regionali della RAI.
