(My) TOP Discovered Albums of the year 2019 - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Here again, for the fourth year in a row! Ready to go through the list of discovered music that I have found this year. It has been quite a long year. The thing that is different from the other years is that I have felt a little bit more stressed about the list. I don’ t know why. Just is. And that is a good judgement of what my year has been about. Stress. Angst. Hardships. Fatigue. And Surprises.

I always think I won’t be able to find any new music each year. But I am always mistaken. Thousands of albums down the road. And ain’t that the best thing. Amidst the times. 

And thus, a lot of the music I found this year, that has been put on this list is of the more chill side. Not anything too harsh. Just.... a stream of consciousness.

As Usual, Albums I have encountered throughout the year are listed below -with only the last five in a true top order:

Richard Barbieri and Steve Jansen plays wonderous synth-pop akin to something... I cannot remember right now. But they are good nonetheless.

(Dis)harmonious multi-instrumental live-recording’easque music with singing and (soft) noise.

Michael Stearns - M'Ocean

Michael Stearns makes the most chill music in the universe. Except for maybe that one U.F.O. trip album that can be chill in the scary cold sense.

Classical album of the year. Górecki always delivers.

Sopor Aeternus & The Ensemble Of Shadows - Death And Flamingos (2019)

Sopor Aeternus & The Ensemble Of Shadows is a band that will always have a special space in my heart. Their music got me through the most part of high school. The dark ambivalent songs. Yet, never forgetting the ironic twinkle in the eye.

You will be grateful I rec’d this jammin’ piece of fast jumping action of absurdity and happiness. :)

Red Snapper - Making Bones (1998) 

Trip Hop Album of The year. Seeing to what trip-hop releases there were around the time of this album’s release, I am so fucking surprised I had never heard of these before. They are just as brilliant as the all too famous Portishead, if not with an upper edge in a lot of cases.

Shoegaze of the year. Lovely. CHILL. Summer evening breathe’

Timeless synth-pop with rich textures of dreamy lyrics that ensnares you into a downtempo that.... goes up.

Datarock ‎- Face The Brutality (2018) 

Norwegian indie masters. I love Datarock very, very much. I’ve listened to them since the 2007 release Red and I don’t know a band with as much coercive pop in each track. This album was a surprise find, since I was convinced they were out of the loop.

HIZAKI grace project  - Curse Of Virgo (2008)   

Symphonic Metal. Hizaki is a master of the guitar. Such Riffs. If you need to drain your brain to metal and feel energized but still mesmerized, this is it.

Institut Für Feinmotorik ‎- Abgegriffen (2011)

Coolest Experimental Band of the year. Go check them out on youtube. The making of the music here is truly an Experience.

The wipeout games are and will forever be my favorite way of anti-gravity racing. The music to Wipeout Omega Collection is as stellar as ever, a great list of electro and techno musicians.

Imagine being at an underground hardcore noise rave party in 1997. Imagine the beat blasts. The speed. The energy. Just the grinding shouts, the beat, and you. Ready to dive. BURN. WATER. REPEAT.

3.2 - The Rules Have Changed  (2018)

The follow up to the infamous To The Power Of Three album from 1986 by Emerson, Lake and Berry. The first record was hated on by many, but I love it. And this very late follow up is a huge accomplishment and honoring to the late people involved. A record my dad would have liked. I just love prog music. Sigh.

Saori Kobayashi - Terra Magica (2016)

Ethereal Game Music is not easy to make. Yet somehow, Saori manages it. No wonder really. She was behind Panzer Dragoon. Masterpiece album for what a tribute it is.

“Terra Magica is a love letter from Saori Kobayashi to her fans. Featuring the same rich, melodic tones that defined the iconic soundtracks of Panzer Dragoon Saga and Panzer Dragoon Orta, Kobayashi invites listeners to enter the world she has created, while encouraging them to create their very own story to match the progression of the music.“

Mobile Suit Z Gundam BGM Collection (Vol.1 - Vol.3)  (1985)

The title track to this animé, sung by Mami Ayukawa, and its subsequent soundtrack is probably one of the best I have heard. 80′s animé has the best soundtracks, mostly.

Noise artist of the year.

Klaus Dinger + Japandorf (2013)

Surprise find of the year in the sense of knowing the artist in other bands (NEU! and Kraftwerk) but totally missing this somehow. Late late find. Total love. Electronic mists will seep into your ears listening to this.

Beak - >>>

Pop-like krautrock. Laid back, but with thought behind it. Allé Sauvage is my fave track. Just the perfect amount of mystery and rhythm and synths. First list find of the year.

The Muffs - Alert Today Alive Tomorrow

20 years ago The Muffs released this album, and I wish... the years had been kinder. This album helped me a lot though when I found it. A lot of nostalgia will arise listening to this.

Jesca Hoop - Stonechild (2019)

Indie folk niceties. Chill, interesting blend of rock and singing elements. Not mystical, but still with mysteries. Got third place because I kept remembering it so much. It penetrated my skull.

Doji Morita - A Boy (1977) 

This album was an early find and should be my album of the year. Morita’s voice is amongst the softest and kindest I have ever heard. And she has all the wonderful aesthetics to boot! Acoustics with accompanying strings and pianos in most of the tracks. It isn’t, because the N’1 is such an explosion of a surprise. 

The third track, ふるえているネ (One who is trembling) is my favorite. I do tremble at the very thoughts expressed in this track. The bird wings at the end... yeah. Every track on this album is a masterpiece. 

Music as pulling one’ s strings of the heart. That is what this album is about. 

I will keep it at that with the words. No more has to be said. Just listen, you will understand.

Kagami - Star Arts (2002)

Explosive, Happy, Creative, Constantly Changing Originality.

 Techno. Disco. TeSco.

Toshiyasu Kagami was a genius in his genre. I’ve heard a lot of techno mixes and textures in my life, but not anything like this before. 

Each track slaps you in the head and forces you to the rhythm, only for you to go.... HMMMMMMMMmmmMmmMmMMmmMMM MMMMMMMMMMMMM when the flow enters its synergies of musical delight. What else is there to say when your ears are filled with such pleasant sounds. Just when you think it won’t change up, it will change up. Impossible to predict. Dancefloor killer. Intelligent Mixes. 

No philosophical analysis, only my body moving to the most energetic beat EVER.

Concrete Masterpiece. My album of the year in 2019.

Como instalar o Nim LTS 1.0.x, uma linguagem de programação, no Ubuntu, Linux Mint, Fedora, Debian

Nim é uma linguagem de programação de sistemas compilada e com um design que se concentra na eficiência, expressividade e elegância. Neste tutorial, saiba como instalar a linguagem de programação Nim no Linux.

Inspirando-se em várias linguagens, a sintaxe do Nim é facilmente compreendida e resulta em um código que pode ser modificado de forma muito eficaz.

Sintaxe significativa de recuo;

Múltiplas construções inspiradas em Python;

Lambdas multilinhas;

Combina conceitos de sucesso de Ada e Modula.

O Nim implementa uma pequena linguagem central com um poderoso conjunto de recursos de metaprogramação.

Siga o tutorial abaixo e instale o NIm agora mesmo no seu Linux!

Instalando o Nim LTS 1.0.x no Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Xubuntu e derivados!

Para instalar o Nim LTS 1.0.x no Ubuntu Linux. Inclusive você também pode instalar o Nim LTS 1.0.x no Linux Mint sem nenhum problema execute o comando abaixo:

sudo snap install nim-lang-lts-1 --classic

Instalando o Nim LTS 1.0.x no Fedora e derivados!

Para instalar o Nim LTS 1.0.x no Fedora, execute os comandos abaixo. Lembrando que caso você já tenha o suporte ao Snap habilitado no Fedora, pule para o passo 3, o de instalação do pacote:

Passo 1 – Instalar o Snapd:

sudo dnf install snapd

Após executar o comando acima, lembre-se encerrar a sessão ou reiniciar o computador! Em seguida, vamos criar um link simbólico para ativar o suporte ao Snap clássico:

Passo 2 – Criar link simbólico:

sudo ln -s /var/lib/snapd/snap /snap

E agora, vamos executar o comando para instalar o Nim LTS 1.0.x no Fedora ou derivados:

Passo 3 – Agora vamos executar o comando para instalar o Nim LTS 1.0.x no Fedora ou derivados:

sudo snap install nim-lang-lts-1 --classic

Instalando o Nim LTS 1.0.x no Debian e derivados!

Para instalar o Nim LTS 1.0.x no Debian, execute os comandos abaixo. Caso você já tenha  Snap ativado e habilitado no seu Debian, pule para o passo 2, que seria da instalação:

Passo 1 – Atualizar os repositório e instalar o Snapd:

apt update

apt install snapd

E agora, vamos executar o comando para instalar o Nim LTS 1.0.x no Debian ou derivados. Observe que o comando abaixo está com o sudo, caso você não o tenha habilitado, remova o sudo e instalar usando o ROOT mesmo:

Passo 2 – Agora vamos executar o comando para instalar o Nim LTS 1.0.x no Debian e derivados:

sudo snap install nim-lang-lts-1 --classic

For the first time in North America, DEAFKIDS will be supporting labelmates Neurosis and Bell Witch for a string of performances in both the US and Canada!  The band will tour in support of their brand-new released album, Metaprogramação, their first full lenght through Neurot Recordings. More dates and info TBA.  The group has recently completed a Southern Brazil tour with Test, as well as leaving for a European tour with Rakta in April, with concerts in festivals like Roadburn (both a solo concert and a joint one with Iggor Cavalera’s Petbrick), Donau and SWR Barrosselas Metalfest, among others.

Albums Of The Year - Part Two

Stu Gardner - The Italian Heist.

Super Disco Edits is a label doing a great job of unearthing previously unreleased material and they’ve done it again with this one. ‘The Italian Heist’ is a 1978 soundtrack that was composed by Stu Gardner and includes top musicians such as Monk Montgomery, Wah Wah Watson and Jimmy Smith. A quality funky jazz soundtrack that I highly recommend.

Bill Callahan - Shepherd In A Sheepskin Vest. 

Excellent new double album from Bill Callahan. I would say this one is slightly more stripped back than his two previous albums, Full of fantastic songs, for me this album required a fair amount of patience to get the most out of but when it clicked it really hit hard. A beautiful record from a modern master - ‘It sure feels good to have him writing again’. 

American Football - LP3.

This one was released back in March and has been on heavy rotation for me. From the opening notes of ‘Silhouettes’ the musicianship and solid songwriting really shine through on this album. The drumming on this album deserves a special mention too - super tight! Some brilliant features from Land Of Talk’s Elizabeth Powell, Paramore’s Hayley Williams and Slowdive’s Rachel Goswell work really well on this record. 

Deafkids - Metaprogramação.

This album sounds like no other. Heavy, psychedelic punk that at times sounds more like the work of an experimental producer rather than a band. But it is indeed the work of this Brazilian three piece. Unpredictable, noisy and energetic, once you put the needle on this record it really demands your full attention. 

Opeth - In Cauda Venenum (Swedish Version).

Opeth have a very special place in my heart. Growing up, they were the first band I heard that I became fully obsessed with. To this day I would still say albums such as Blackwater Park, Still Life and Ghost Reveries are some of my favourite albums ever. Unlike some fans, I didn’t fully sign out during this later period of Opeth albums but I would say none of them quite captured the magic of those earlier releases. 2019′s ‘In Cauda Venenum’ is right up there though! This is their best since Watershed. Frontman Mikael Åkerfeldt has brought together all of his prog, classic rock and folk influences to produce this classic! He says the Swedish version is ‘THE’ version, so that’s the one I’ve been listening to.

Steve Gunn - The Unseen In Between.

This is another album that was released early in the year and has regularly been finding it’s way on to my turntable. Brilliant guitar playing and top notch songwriting made this one pretty addictive listening for me throughout 2019. Also got to see him at Deaf Institute back in April and him and the band were on fine form!

Big Thief - Two Hands.

I was slightly late to the party with this band. Having only heard this one and U.F.O.F. (also released in 2019) a couple of weeks back. I can’t get enough of them - particularly this record. Absolutely solid release from a really exciting band. I can’t help but think this is what it would sound like if Joanna Newsom fronted Crazy Horse. Highly recommended!

Purple Mountains - Purple Mountains.

I have returned to this album more than any other this year and I would say this is my album of the year. This album helped me loads and I had it on 24/7 upon it’s release. I find it hard to put into words how great this album really is. Unfortunately, the release was soon followed by the devastating news of David Berman’s passing. 

I’m certain I’m not the only one who’s beyond thankful for this record. I will be listening to this record regularly for the rest of my life. Thank you David - R.I.P.
