Uncharismatic Fact of the Day
Most frogs extend their tongues through a lingual flip in the bottom of their mouths-- called a lingual flap, or by strongly flipping their tongue through the lips and out of the mouth. In the Mexican burrowing toad however, the tongue stiffens and protrudes out of the tongue by moving its lower jaw backwards.

Possibly my favorite video** of my favorite amphibian. This is Rhinophrynus dorsalis (Mexican burrowing toad), considered imposible to keep & breed in captivity until recently. **Auto-generated subtitles only, unfortunately.** I love that they live underground, I love their weird snout-noses which they stick out of the ground to sing, their jelly-like bodies & star maps painted on their skin. Weird, majestic creatures who aren't even toads, really, because they diverged from other amphibians milions and milions of years ago, much earlier than our species appeared. As one account puts it: a fruit bat, polar bear, killer whale, kangaroo and human are all more similar to one another than this species is to any other amphibian.

Mexican Burrowing Toad (Rhinophrynus Dorsalis)
With no neck, a triangular head, muscular short legs, and no webbing on its front feet, these guys are specially suited for their digging and burrowing lifestyle. Unlike most frogs, instead of flipping out their tongue to catch their prey, the Mexican Burrowing Toad stiffens its tongue and protrudes it, allowing it to eat ants and other insects in their burrows!
These little freaks are found in the lowlands of Central America, Mexico, and in the far south of Texas. AND fortunately they're categorised as least concern!!

Meet Suolo!
Suolo (Meaning soil in Italian) is a Peppino clone designed after a Mexican burrowing toad
He isn't able to stretch as much as other Peppino clones(Kinda based this on how toads have shorter legs and aren't able to jump as high as frogs)
He's just a silly guy

tell me about frogs :] !!! please
frog rant incoming (kinda ish)
my favourite frogs are the ones that look like their surroundings and use it as a form of camouflage like the Vietnamese mossy frog or the long nosed Horne's frog also know as the malayan horned frog like its one of those things I can't wrap around my head that they're real but they are!!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
pictures don't do them justice like I just think it's really neat if it were to ever have a frog as a pet I would get a mossy frog or a dumpy frog : D
also they're not a frog but honorable mention to the mexican burrowing toad my favourite toad of all time I love the croaks that they make like its just my favourite its so goofy I love them so bad😭
Tumblr media Tumblr media
if you couldn't tell I love frogs because they're just silly goofy little guys yk??? like nothing behind those eyes besides be frog. but some of them are just cool as fuck like the glass frog who's skin is transparent and could actually be the cure to blood clotting because of its ability
Tumblr media
LIKE HOW FUCKING COOL???? frogs can come in so many different shapes and sizes and they're all unique in their own way and they're just small little creatures living their best life I love ethem so bad

Mexican burrowing toad

okay so like in the context of minecraft roleplay and fictions, would Mole just be a community background, nationality, or a character race.
I've been thinking about this partially due to how there are so many "mole" creatures irl and then there are moles. Mole rats, mole snakes, mole beetles, etc.
I like to think that in the magic of minecraft a player can be pretty much anything. So with this there would be cultural and some adaptational differences between surface origins and underground ones due to the vast difference of environment.
So when people talk about Mole People is it actually mole based or is it based off of creatures that happen to be mole adjacent or living that mole lifestyle?
if it's a way of life and a community thing then here are some extra animals that could fall under the catagory of being a kind of mole people:
Tumblr media
mole crab
Tumblr media
some shrews
Tumblr media
Mexican mole lizard
Tumblr media
mole beetle
Tumblr media
earthworms
even more:
Most species of ant
several kinds of wasp
Meerkats
groundhogs
badgers
weasels
burrowing owls
termites
several kinds of toad
various rodents
several kinds of spider
several kinds of eel
Which then leads to a likely far more controversial take that if a mole is a mammal that lives most of their lives underground in communities, then would that make Dwarves also a kind of mole?
People keep assuming Rat is a true mole base but most of the time they are actually a subterranean species of rat in most universes.
So obviously I am going for the more fun option that Mole is more of a cultural description than it is an actual race in the worlds of minecraft.
I want to see more players be unconventional Moles in games and lore.
Completely deconstruct and then redefine what it means to be a Mole and live underground.
