Whiskers for Wealth + Health

Hot toddies may seem like a holiday affair, but I would argue that their real time to shine is in these dark, cold, damp, disgustingly germ-filled months of winter where everybody is sick and exhausted from trying to become a new person in 2019 after weeks of either binge drinking, or fighting with family, or facing the pressures of maintaining sobriety, or spending too much on self-soothing because there’s no family to fight with, or whatever it is that’s giving you your holiday hangover.

So yes, hot toddies are a festive delight, but mid-January is as fine a time as any to make yourself a hot toddy in the name of health.

Obviously taking a break from alcohol is usually a good move when you’re sick, but if you’re gonna drink this is a pretty fantastic way to keep your chest and throat warm and the booze even helps kill some bugs. Shooting your liver to hell with too many, though, will not help your body to a speedy recovery. So be cool.

My personal favorite take on the hot toddy is what I call a “Whisker” (whiskey/cider).

This beverage is also super awesome without any alcohol if sobriety is important to your health, so feel free to experiment with the recipe without the booze, too. In fact, the main feature of the drink is best brewed without the alcohol in the mix, so it’s an easy drink to portion out among a mixed crowd (sober people, drinkers, children, etc) without too much hassle.

And this wouldn’t be a real party without a little witchcraft, so to make things interesting let’s bring out the naturally magical properties of the brew with some intention! Poof, you’re a kitchen witch.

Ginger is associated with the element of fire, and with that comes passion, energy, and excitement. It also has the quality of helping things move more quickly to fruition. Medicinally, it is an anti-inflammatory, digestive aid, and has a warming quality that has made it a staple of treating cold conditions through the ages.

Cinnamon is another superhero herb with the elemental qualities of fire used often in charms associated with drawing love, happiness, and prosperity - and who doesn’t want those things? Medicinally it is said to stimulate digestive enzymes and regulate blood sugar.

Using these two elements along with the new year, new financial needs theme, we’ve got a nice solid base for creating a brew for prosperity!

This recipe to make about 2 doses of whiskers for 2 people, and I encourage solo or group use of this spell as sharing the wealth is a great way of generating prosperity in your life.

(I measure with my heart, so please don’t feel like you have to be too exact with the measurements)

To set the tone, an inspiring quote:

Whiskers for Wealth + Health

Ingredients:

32 oz cider (or just water + lemon if you’re going traditional hot toddy route)

ginger (in root form or 1/4 tsp powdered but I prefer root)

cinnamon (2 sticks or  1/4 tsp powdered, but again I like the whole stick form)

honey (to taste)

whiskey or bourbon of choice (1 oz per serving)

Pour the cider in a medium pot. As you light the flame (or electric stove), close your eyes and say out loud:

Element of fire, I invoke your flames To bring warmth, wealth, and health to dark winter days!

Stir the cider in the clockwise direction (if in the Northern Hemisphere) or counter-clockwise (Southern Hemisphere).

After you bring the cider (or water etc) to a boil, reduce the heat to low-medium and put in the cinnamon sticks or powdered. As you pop those in, incant:

My heart’s passion glows with soul-fire within stoked by the sweet richness of cinnamon

Chop the ginger into small cube-like pieces while that’s boiling, 2 tablespoons should be plenty, and throw those in too, incanting:

A handful of ginger brings warmth to this winter Sun energy breaks icy blocks down to splinters

Take some nice deep inhales as it brews, stirring again in the Sun-wise direction (same as above). Imagine a warm golden light spreading from your nostrils down into the pit of your stomach, climbing out to all your fingers and toes.

Pour the whiskey into some nice cozy mugs,

Water of life, bring good money and health Burn through all strife, spirits, and help me build wealth!

Give the cider mixture a good 5-10 min to boil. You can also put the heat down super low and keep it simmering on the stove for as long as you like, within reason. It’ll just get more dense and spicy. When you’re ready, pour the brew over the whiskey, giving thanks for all the abundance already present in your life.

Notice how the feeling of appreciation makes you feel combined with the warmth of the whisker, and imagine all your wishes and desires being fulfilled in due time. Sip with the certainty that you are loved, nourished, and supported in all of your endeavors.

Harm none, so will it be! And so it is.

Cláudia conta como é o seu processo criativo: “Sou uma pessoa muito criativa. Um dia tive a inspiração de pedir às minhas amigas que me cedessem jaquetas que elas não usavam mais e prometi que as transformaria em peças que elas voltariam a usar, e que as peças customizadas refletiriam de algum modo a personalidade de cada uma delas”.

A personal stylist adicionou a peças antigas e usadas adereços que tornaram as peças atraentes e ressignificaram o seu uso: “pesquiso muito para minhas criações. Cada vez que encontro algo que me agrade, como patches para ser aplicados, vou fazendo um acervo deles. Alguns são termo colantes, outros são de renda, pedras, etc. Ai pego a peça de roupa e penso nas possibilidades que podem combinar com o cliente, com quem vai usar a jaqueta. No caso desta coleção, o floral, e cada uma é customizada de acordo com o conceito que pretendo imprimir às peças e a personalidade de quem vai usá-la”.

A idéia tem feito bastante sucesso entre suas clientes, e a estilista tem buscado expandir o conceito para o grande público. Recentemente, Cláudia realizou um evento de exibição das peças customizadas, e mostrou cinco jaquetas que tornaram-se peças únicas e exclusivas.
