4. Daxton in 1x04 Ganesh Pooja:

WHERE DO I EVEN BEGIN. If you don’t know know im also a Tamil girl just like Devi and I’m 18 rn and four to five years back(12-14) I would be so embarrassed to wear anything traditional (past that stage btw lol) Plus every guy I've even been around just tease you SO MUCH for what you wear. So Devi being paranoid about running into her school kids during Ganesh Pooja was so relatable. Especially the "Some people think im not Indian enough and some think I'm TOO Indian". Anyways.. I remember watching the scene for the first time...  when Devi was kicking the lockers and Paxton shows up I literally fell of my chair because I was SO SURE he was gonna make fun of her and I sat through the whole scene covering my eyes with my hands cause bro I was so ready to go off on the guy if he made fun. I literally shrunk in size hoping he won’t like make fun of her or she won’t say something embarrassing but then he like asks her why is she so frustrated that she’s kicking LOCKERS and then asks her ABOUT her culture and festival... seems interested... listens to her.. calms her down AND COMPLIMENTS HER?? Honestly its one of the most underrated daxton moments. 

3. “I thought we were....” 2x03

This scene just.... the angst>>>>>>  “You must think I’m such an idiot... I liked you... I- I thought we were... doesn’t matter”

Dude but like get your ass back here and finish the sentence. 

2. HEAT WAVES - 2X09 Do I even have to elaborate this? like I don’t even know what to say-  Like bro they mentioned there is a storm coming several times in that episode and this mf decides to go climb onto a roof of a girl... who’s mom HATES you. She called you an idiot who ruins girls futures by knocking them up and getting them pregnant... and you like 6 episodes back got YEETED by a speeding car and JUST recovered. So you climb the roof in POURING RAIN  then you go and text her AFTER you get there still standing in a storm like heyyy watchu doin?? you want company?? *with no emojis* (no emojis.. what a monster right?) js cause there were tons of people attacking him for the dumbest reason ever 

Then he knocks and gets in and kisses her LIKE %&”£^%”& the thought of the scene just makes me blush so much that my mom thinks im dating someone and she’s so ready to murder me lol. AND WHEN HE LEAVES. THE WAY HE LOOKS AT HER. HIS VOICE. GOOD. LORD. I WOULD SELL MY ORGANS FOR THEM.

Why didn’t they give us the daxton call?! Lets also talk about how his shirt went from dripping wet to dry.. thats how long they made out for.. 1. Daxton in 1x08  I can’t separate the moments in this episode.  From the start, Devi thanking Paxton for helping her out with the sex rumor even tho he was mad at her... 

asking him if they could be friends again... and then at school Paxton complimenting her AGAIN.

 Paxton helping Devi out of the pool, giving Devi his sweats (hey she never gave them back) 

THE CAR RIDE HOME with Fire For You playing in the background and all those glances please

... it gives me heart palpitations (still mad they blurred out Paxtons smile in the last one)

Paxton asks her if shes okay and she’s yk opening up and the way this parallels with 2x08 where Paxton is opening up and Devi is listening- 

so yeah she opens up to him about how she thought everyone in her life is done with her and Paxton just kisses her like I’m not done with you no hi wyd 

 his THUMB??? SIR?? 

Devi’s whole “Thanks for the ride and the kiss, I mean the kiss- I mean the clothes..” and Paxton just :

and he leaves saying “See you Monday Devi” :) he literally had no intention of avoiding her until her mom called him an Idiot who sleeps around and gets girls pregnant to ruin their futures

A little disappointed that Eliot introduced this really cool idea of Alder and Tally having an emotional and cognitive bond that persists even after Tally is de-biddied... and then nothing is done with it really.

The bond was my main reason for sticking with season 2 because I was curious how that would turn out. So many possibilities.

Like: how much of Alder's knowledge can Tally access, can she control gaining access (with lucid dreaming/meditation for example, letting her call up those memories she really wants to see) because she is a thinker?

I know exactly what I would have done in Tally's place: treated Alder like a huge library with confidential information. Apparently Alder does not notice the breach, so.. Tally wants truth? Well she should actively look for it. She would probably find out how complicated and fucked up the military (and life) is.

Honestly if someone is 300 years old and in the military, there will be a LOT of shit, misdeeds, whatnot. And Alder will have the experience to make all the shit go away, she will have done so many times before if she is still on top now - which leads me to:

Alder should have totally memory-wiped Tally as soon as soon as she knew Tally was dreaming about Alder's Nicte-history. Or she should have emotionally manipulated Tally or threatened her where it hurts. Then Tally's defiance would have actually been an act of valour.

My main complaint is really that Tally could have stumbled over an old buried diary she perceived with her Thinking skills and read about Nicte there. This would have led to the exact same outcome in 2x09. In terms of the plot her being biddied and de-biddied was really fairly irrelevant except for the emotional fragility scene in 2x01. (You can absolutely fantasize about Alder in 2x08 for whatever reason. Doesn't Tally have a bit of an authority and military kink anyways?)

Alder saying: "it [the feelings of loss over the severed bond] will pass" - and us of course hoping that it would be complicated and gradual - was entirely accurate, it was pretty much gone after a night?

A more emotionally compromised Tally would have told Alder immediately about her nightmare and the centipede injury - that was even that very same night - and Tally's just like, yeah, not great but whatever. And then the dreams are only adressed with Alder when she dreams of Nicte?

A lot of the fanfiction out there deals with this much more thoroughly.

I love a lot of the ideas in MFS but man they are sometimes not fleshed out in the way they deserve. I absolutely partially blame the restrictions of the TV format, who knows how different (i.e. much longer and detailed) Eliot's book series would have been.

That the concepts and ideas are really strong is evident what with this great fandom that even has its own Research Institute :)

The only gripe I have about 2x09 of MFS is that the ‘slash’ on Alder’s face looked so damn fake. Beyond that it was chefs kiss and I cried at multiple points. This show does not miss!

That wasn't a slash. It was actually Alder's inner gay through to break out because Tally challenging her was so hot. True story

Hii. this is the mfs anon who has made her way to mid-s2 and here's my bi-weekly report.

The show itself is such a deeply frustrating watch. Because I get suckerpunched everytime the writers accidentally stumble upon fascinating Concepts (How the handfasting rituals reduces witches to prized mares! Do mothers ever want their daughters if they were forced to have them to continue their bloodlines? Men still having more agency over their bodies in This World??? its more likely than you think!!!)

Except they never fucking commit. Sandwiching these tiny glimpses of a more complex world with cw-tier romances, weak dialogue and terrible pacing.

But then the show gives me tally and raelle having their domestic fall hallmark movie moment in ep 6 and im like, :/ ok ill keep watching for This and all the war crime mommies :/

I love youuuuu yes yes exactly!! I've used the word 'frustrating' every single time I've talked about mfs with someone. The premise is so interesting, there are bits and pieces that are so good and full of potential and complexity, the main characters are well-rounded and their relationships with each other are compelling. And yet, somehow, the experience of watching the show feels so below all of what's good about it that you can't help but go a little ???? what tf happened here....

And yes totally agree, the approach to handfasting was one of THE most frustrating thing for me in S2, because it could have said SO much about Petra/Abigail especially, but also about most mother/daughter dynamics on the show. They could have tied that nicely with a reflexion on legacy that would have suited Abigail's arc (i.e going against expectations but still upholding her legacy by trying to emulate Jem and her power) and Adil's (is there a point upholding your ancestral values when they put the last of your line at risk of extinction?). Maybe even Tally's (dealing with Alder's legacy rather than her own, at least until 2x09-10). They could even have addressed the critic in your second message! Does every older woman have to be a Mom? kind of, when they're literally forced to be mothers! (Although the funniest failure on that front imo is trying to make Alder maternal because they clearly didn't give the memo to Lyne Renee). But they did none of that and instead introduced a huge idea, explored it not at all and dropped it indefinitely.

do you have any favourites parts of season 2? (I agree that the plot has been.... Thin? Non-existent?) But what are the things about this season that you've enjoyed?

hello anon! a few things i’ve enjoyed are:

-the new guest stars. watkins, hill, and raphael are knocking it out of the park. we waited longer than i wanted to to see june and dulé but hey, at least they’re here now! im already kinda attached to their characters and im pretty sure all of them are gonna get fucked over so im scared fjgkjhfdg

-just seeing all these mf characters again. ive missed them so much kjhgkdfjh i could watch them watch paint dry and i’d be okay with that bc i just MISSED THEM

-CONNIE. RESURGENCE. OMFG. i saw xosha roquemore (the actress who plays her) credited for 2x05 a couple weeks back and i FREAKED. OUT. god why do i love this narc. acab except for connie because i like her and she’s pretty (seeing her in full color and 80s style was a REVELATION)

-mo coming back ugh i missed him at the jammer group. seeing him complacent and beaten down HURT. im ready to see him fuck blair up i love blair but he’s walking away in handcuffs this season if mo has anything to say about it

-blair/harris. ok they’re cute i said it (plus they’re easily getting the most screentime out of all the couples this season which is nice bc their relationship is so much less established than the others)

-mo/dawn flashbacks mo/dawn flashbacks mo/dawn flashbacks mo/dawn flashbacks mo/dawn flashbacks!!! i knew we would be seeing their backstory but i didn’t expect it to be the first thing we saw all season!!! i love mo/dawn and i love getting backstory since i was waiting to know more about their past for so long and!! it’s here!! now we know everybody at the jammer group used to work for leighman and that’s why they hate them and we know mo and dawn go back a decade and!! it’s just so satisfying to KNOW i love to see it

-the entirety of Fore! (2x04) yassir. fucking. killed. that. shit. he was the sole writing credit for that episode, and when i saw that on the imdb page i simply knew it would be god tier. and it was! admittedly a little plotless, but that’s par for the course this season, plus it was early enough in the season to get away with it i think. the twist at the end. corky’s entrance. blair/harris. blair being an idiot. blair being a high idiot. yassir x being the king of feminism. yassir lester writing andrew’s emmy reel like that. we haven’t seen season 2B yet but 2A peaked with fore!. period. try to disagree with me. you can’t.

-ofc the 80s aesthetic that we all know and love. i saw somebody describe black monday as a period piece once and it seemed kind of ill-fitting bc it’s not set in victorian era england but yk what? it’s totally fitting. this is a period piece. the 80s slap.

-blair being the villain that we know he is. i wish they would quit stalling on this because it’s making all the characters seem monotonous and non-distinct, but i like those moments where blair snaps (“WE ARE DOING THIS” and “i am the only family you need now. just me”) andrew’s such an excellent actor and it’s fun to see this side of his range since he’s usually played really nice and wholesome (or at least not downright villainous) characters. he’s sending chills down my spine with some of the shit he’s doing and saying this season. andrew. emmy. nomination. now. GIVE IT TO ME NOW.

-momentary mo&blair resurgence (even if it’s fake). i miss mo&blair as father-son so fucking much anon you don’t even know. finding out that they were the ones clicking their heels in 2x06? i could’ve CRIED

-being right. ok this has a bit of lore but i have been STALKING the imdb page for black monday for MONTHS. bc they’ll add episode titles, or screencaps, or cast members all the time without telling anybody, and everything’s been accurate so far (so it’s not some troll lying on imdb we know that lol). specifically, in 2x09, there’s a character credited as dr. gabe egon. the tl already had suspicions that he had smth to do with conversion therapy bc there’s this one picture that sho released where you can see all this shit mo’s written on this board, and it DEFINITELY SAID CONVERSION THERAPY. and this episode comes around and roger is walking out this door that says “dr. gabe egon ~ therapy for the religiously erect” or whatever and i was like !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and then roger blurts out that it’s literally CT and i !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! this shit is in different areas for better or for worse and even if im confused and bored at the same time being pulled along for the ride is fun as hell

-the naming scheme for the episodes. i literally had no idea what they would do for the episode titles this season since there’s no countdown to black monday, but i like how it’s shit that the characters say/write. bc then a character says the episode name and you’re like !!!!!!!!!!! jfhgdfjk. plus it kinda tells you what’s going on--i knew 2x06 would be about a ponzi scheme before blair even proposed the idea in 2x05 bc the ep is titled Arthur Ponzarelli. and i knew fore! would be the episode where blair and the harrises are golfing and blair gets hit by a golf cart since “fore” is a golf term. and i know that 2x07, “who are you supposed to be?” is the weird halloween party ep where everybody looks ridiculous and ppl are def gonna be getting into it. 2x10 is titled “i don’t like mondays” and idk what that means but i bet mo says that line in the show. and 2x09 is titled “at that time” and im so scared bc that episode has a blair flashback and WHAT DOES IT MEAN WHAT DOES IT ALL MEANNNN

-more women and more women being relevant to the plot. good. it was getting a little obnoxiously man-influenced here. cmon the majority of the cast AND the majority of the directors AND the majority of the producers AND a majority of the writers AND both the creators can’t ALL be men. like pick a struggle.

episode 2x08: The Mind Flayer (and the opening scenes of 2x09)

All I’m saying is that the rest of them were debating how the Mind Flayer could be killed while waiting on the military to get there, Mike especially doubting that the military could do anything against the MF and its army, and they decided to communicate with Will to find out how to “kill it”. But Will told them to “Close Gate” because he knew they didn’t have the power to kill the MF. That’s why the bitch is back in season 3.

So yeah, communicating with Will was vital to defeating the MF for season 2. Of course El was the only one who could close the gate, and the dialogue between El and Joyce clearly implies that El communicated with Will in a missing scene.

El says to Joyce when Joyce says Will isn’t doing well: “I know. I saw”. We don’t see exactly what she sees then, because how would she know that Will wasn’t doing well based on just seeing Mike and Hopper as we saw them in the void in 2x07? So she saw Will in a missing scene, she connected with him in a way the writers decided not to show us.

Will and El equally contributed to defeating the MF (temporarily) in season 2.

Merlin 2x09 "The Lady of the Lake" Highlights:

I don't know if it's because of my headphones or just the way the sound is edited, but my ASMR was off the charts in the opening sequence

How you can see, even as Gaius is warning him not to get involved, how Merlin is already planning Freya's breakout

Also Laura Donnelly! (I love her to bits and she's woefully underused in this show)

That shot where the screen is black, Merlin says "Bryne" to light the torch and the scene is flooded with light

Arthur is at his most tyrannical and hilarious

Gaius listening to the bounty hunter tell Uther about Freya's escape and her curse and the 'FFS Merlin' being so evident on his face

Merlin lighting the candles with magic and glancing quickly at Freya to see if she's impressed

Merlin all but singing 'born this way' at Freya when she talks about being cursed, thinking that she just means she’s cursed with magic (which is nothing to be scared of) and completely missing that it might be something bigger

Merlin, knowing he can't conjure up a strawberry because of Principal Exception 1 to Gamp's Law of Elemental Transfiguration, decides instead to conjure up a rose like a smooth mf

(btw I'm not even pretending at this point that I don't think Merlin and Harry Potter are set in the same universe)

Arthur stopping to look at the dress Merlin's holding, deciding he'd rather not know, walking away and pausing a few steps later to ask what Merlin’s doing witht he dress because the curiousity gets the better of him

"As long as you do a decent day's work, that's all I care about, Merlin." Arthur definitely doesn't think about Merlin in that dress non-stop for ages after this conversation. Definitely not.

No lie, if cat!Freya wasn't so bitey, I'd cuddle her so hard

Clarke protects the coalition and he protects Clarke; he inspires the people and she inspires him; my wig is in space
