Driving in Winter.

Ok, so this happened to me about a week after my birthday, months ago.

I was driving with my friend to an ice skating rink to meet up with other friends so we could go ice skating. Obviously. Well, it was getting dark (because it was winter and the days are stupidly short) and we reached the final intersection before turning into the ice skating complex. My friend was driving her Mustang, so I was in the passenger's side feeling all cool. Plus it was the beginning of my party with my friends to celebrate my birthday. So I was super happy too.

Well, we were waiting at the intersection, and up next to us pulls his dark blue sedan. There are two parents in the front seats, jabbering away, dressed all fancy. In the back, there was a boy, dressed up as well, but not looking very happy. I assumed they just returned from some event or something.

I don't exactly know why, but I felt obligated to cheer the kid up. I wanted to. I was all happy and excited, and this guy was sad and holding his head in his hand, looking out the window. So I turned in my seat, and began wildly waving and smiling at him. My friend thought I was a nut case, but after I told her what I was doing, she joined in.

So just imagine having a crappy night with your parents, and on the way home, you stop at an intersection. And as you peer sadly out of the window, you see two kids your age waving and grinning at you from the next lane in a shiny red Mustang. I, for one, would be freaked the fuck out.

Lucky for me, though, he actually smiled back. He laughed a little bit. Once my friend saw him wave back, she thought her job was done, and returned to her driving position.

I, on the other hand, felt really good for putting a smile on his face. I thought I was actually doing something for someone else.

Unfortunately, he smiled and waved back just as the light finally turned green. We continued waving to each other while our two cars went other directions, until I couldn't see him anymore.

I'll never forget that boy's smile. The delight in his eyes, when he saw me waving.

I wished I could have met him. He was kinda cute :P

Anyway, I tell you all this, because I started a story based on it a little while ago. It's called "Michael & Kyle," if you were wondering what that one was about.

So there you guys go. :)
