i am fascinated by my relationship with the album Microcastle by Deerhunter, because i cannot remember any song of the album, and i have no memories of listening to it, but when i do listen to it, i recognise the songs, and that is because i listened to it on a loop for like a week while being drunk in 2021, and all my memories of that period are deleted, except for i guess subconscious recognition of music

Tvardovsky comes to Particles out of the Ukraine, emerging as one of the most promising progressive acts in the region after appearing in 2011’s Winter Particles compilation and culminating in the Beatport Progressive Top 100 best-selling “Code” EP at the end of last year. He’s now at the helm of his own music label, Stereo Paradise, and his own radio show, Secret Reality.

The deeply melodic “Brain Code” gets remixed now by two fast rising Particles residents each, like Tvardovsky, at the helm of their own respective music labels at Proton: Argentina’s Santiago Garcia, founder of Baires, and Mobilize, founder of Mobilisiemusik.

Microcastle/ Weird Era Cont. Deerhunter (Kranky) (released in 2008)

When I cat-sat last year I did my usual trade at Reckless and I ended up with two Deerhunter rarities. I also picked up a third Deerhunter album at Laurie's. After seven albums (and any number of CD-R's download only releases, not to mention the offshoots of Atlas Sound or Lotus Plaza) you can barely call them a new band yet they are one of my favorite bands having been birthed in the Aughts.

Once upon a time I would read Pitchfork in search of new music and when they reviewed this album I took a chance on this album. I won't say it was my favorite but it was interesting enough and unusual enough that I happily took a chance on the follow up which turned out to be one of the great albums of 2010, Halcyon Digest.

When Microcastle first came out on vinyl in 2008, it had a different cover and the bonus album, Weird Era Cont was nothing more than a bonus CD sans credits or song titles. The CD release of the album in 2008 had the album cover you see above and the bonus CD of Weird Era Cont contained song titles and credits. It wasn't until the following year, 2009, that Kranky reissued the album on LP as it appears to this day which is what you see here.

Lastly is a close up of the hype sticker. The quote comes from Spin and while it is a memorable quote, it is still close to meaningless, but then I cannot stand Spin magazine and never, ever could. I've recently had a chance to investigate back issues of Spin and having read any number of record reviews in those issues, they might be the single worst reviewers I've ever read. And I've read an endless array of record reviews in a long lifetime.
