So I was listening to Mitski’s ‘I bet on losing dogs’ and it made me think about John/Paul’s relationship with Millie..

So we all know that John/Paul and Millie had a thing when they were younger, as told in the show and hearing how upset he was about the whole situation in the last episode when talking to Millie again.

BUT I believe it’s even more tragic as if you really think about it like this.. He was a father but.. not the way he wanted to be.

After finding out she was pregnant, she told him and obviously, he must have been over the moon but then reality kicked in and completely ruined his future family life with her and their baby.

Obviously Millie was mostly upset too but she had husband already so for her, she was able to pretend it was his and not John/Paul’s which had to be completely heartbreaking to say for her.

John/Paul seeing her belly grow bigger and bigger over the months of mass attendance. Seeing her glowing as she was becoming more heavy pregnant, wanting to help her, and just wanting to be with her instead of doing mass.

Maybe only briefly talking to her in his priest persona than the lover one, maybe asking about the baby and praying for her and the baby.

Once the baby is born, he doesn’t know until he sees her at mass with a newborn, making some fuss as she rocks her gently.

The ONLY TIME he gets to hold her is when she gets christened, he tries not to look too overjoyed as he is holding HIS BABY GIRL for the first time and last time.

Maybe watching her play with the other kids at the Easter crock pot, and seeing her injure her knee but he stops his parental instincts from kicking in as he doesn’t want Millie getting into trouble if someone found out.

Lastly, watching her grow up to be a successful young lady/woman as he grows older and more sad that he couldn’t be there for his only daughter with the woman he loved so deeply.

Then.. in their last moments together. He finally gets to say what he wanted to say to his daughter and how proud he is of her, and wanting to get to know her more if he could have.

In the last scene of the show, John/Paul gets to be with his family in the end but.. not the way he wanted but he is still grateful to spend their final moments with his family.

Last series: The Patient on Hulu, easy 10/10. I’ve watched a shit load of TV in the last couple weeks so: The Devil in Ohio: 8/10, KinnPorsche: 9/10 (-1 because no KimChay reunion), The Watcher: 9/10, The Midnight Club: 6/10, and then all of Mike Flanagan’s other shows which are like 12/10s for me.

Last movie: The Shining. Watched it for the first time last night and I was pleasantly surprised at how much I liked it. It could have been like an hour shorter and I absolutely lost my shit laughing when they show Jack frozen bc meme, but I gave it 7/10 on IMDb

Currently working on: I have so many WIPs it’s disgusting, but here are just some of them:

1) My massive Ben x Perry fic that I’ll never shut up about. It starts in 1977 and goes from there and follows Ben and Perry’s lives if they met in college in CA when Perry’s a junior and Ben is a freshman. I usually go months without touching it despite thinking about it/them all the time, but just in the last couple weeks, I wrote about 8k words!

2) A second installment in what hopefully becomes a series for JDox daddy kink oops

3) A Ben x JD x Perry OT3 fic

4) A JDox fic with established JDox who’ve been having Problems and then JD gets hurt (wild idea, I know)

5) Another JDox fic with established JDox where JD gets hurt right before their wedding (yes i absolutely hate myself) 

6) literally a massive document with fic/oneshot ideas in various stages of planning from just an idea or quote to a nearly finished outline

9) Elena Gilbert bc I know she has her annoying moments, but at her core, she’s a girl who lost her entire family and did the best she could and who deserved so much better (The Vampire Diaries)

10) Can I just collectively say all the characters (not you, Bev Keane) from The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor, and Midnight Mass? Mike Flanagan, pay for my therapy

Watching The Haunting of Bly Manor ep. 5:

I will never forgive Mike Flanagan for the heartbreak that is Midnight Mass

So, I tagged my Midnight Mass fic “Mike Flanagan needs to pay for my therapy.” It’s true in a way because, damn, he makes me full-body sob during these shows (EVERY time).

But the one thing that makes these shows perfect imo? Is that the endings always feel cathartic. Not necessarily happy, not necessarily good, but always a release and an acceptance to whatever end he brought us to. I haven’t felt dissatisfied with an ending yet.

The Haunting of Hill House might be the best at this for me, because dealing with and accepting grief and trauma was such a beautiful message. But Midnight Mass really does come together in such a way that the story feels complete and rounded.

In other words, I continually worship on the Mike Flanagan altar.
